[1]NOW Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build a house for him. [1]Then sent Hiram the king of Tyrus messengers to David, and cedar trees, with masons and carpenters to build him an house.
[2]And David perceived that the LORD had chosen him to be king over Israel, for his kingdom was exalted because of his people Israel. [2]Therefore David knew that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel , and that his kingdom was lift up on high, because of his people Israel.
[3]And David took more wives in Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron, and there were born to him more sons and daughters. [3]Also David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David begat more sons and daughters.
[4]Now these are the names of the children who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shocob, Nathan, and Solomon. [4]And these are the names of the children which he had at Jerusalem, Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
[5]Ibhar, Elisha, Eliphalet. [5]And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Eliphelet,
[6]Nogah, Nepheg, and Naphia, [6]And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
[7]And Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphalet [7]And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
[8]And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them. [8]But when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David. And when David heard, he went out against them.
[9]And the Philistines came and encamped in the valley of giants. [9]And the Philistines came, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
[10]And David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into my hands? And the LORD said to him, Go up; for I will deliver them into your hands. [10]Then David asked counsel at God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up: for I will deliver them into thine hand.
[11]So they came up to the valley of Toretha, and David smote them there. Then David said. The LORD has broken in upon my enemies before me like the breaking forth of waters; therefore they called the name of that place the valley of Toretha. [11]So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there: and David said, God hath divided mine enemies with mine hand, as waters are divided: therefore they called the name of that place, Baal-perazim.
[12]And when they had left their idols there, David gave a commandment to his mighty men, saying. Burn them with fire and scatter their ashes to the wind. [12]And there they had left their gods: and David said, Let them even be burned with fire.
[13]And the Philistines came up again and encamped in the valley of giants. [13]Again the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley.
[14]Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said to him, You shall not go up after them; but turn away from them, and go attack them from the front. [14]And when David asked again counsel at God, God said to him, Thou shalt not go up after them, but turn away from them, that thou mayest come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
[15]And it shall be, when you hear the sound of howling in the top of the mountain, then you shall go out to battle; for the LORD has gone forth before you to smite the army of the Philistines. [15]And when thou hearest the noise of one going in the tops of the mulberry trees, then go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
[16]And David therefore did as the LORD commanded him; and they smote the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gadar. [16]So David did as God had commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
[17]And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all the nations [17]And the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
