Peshitta NT (Etheridge, 1849)
PesNT(Eth)
[1]Teach I to you but my brethren the Gospel that I preached to you and you received it and you stand in it [1]BUT I make known to you, my brethren, the gospel which I have announced to you, and you have received, and in which you stand,
[2]And by it have life you by those words I preached to you if remember you if unless it has happened unworthily you have believed [2]And by which you are saved; of which, the word I have preached to you, you are mindful, unless you have vainly believed.
[3]I have delivered to you for from the first according to that which I received that The Messiah died for the sake of our sins just as it is written [3]For I delivered to you from the first, according as I had received: That the Meshiha died for our sins, as it is written;
[4]And that He was buried and He arose after three days as that which is written [4]And that he was buried, and arose the third day, as it is written.
[5]And He has appeared to Kaypha and after him to the twelve [5]And he was seen of Kipha, and after him, of the twelve,
[6]And after that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren as one many of whom present are until now and some of them have fallen asleep [6]And after them, he was seen of more than five hundred brethren together, many of whom survive till now, and some of them have slept.
[7]And from after these things He appeared to Yaqob and after him to the apostles all of them [7]And afterward he was seen of Jakub, and after him of all the apostles:
[8]To the last but of all of them as if to an aborted baby He appeared also to me [8]But last of them all, as of an abortion, he was seen also of me.
[9]I am for the least of them of the apostles and not worthy I am to be called an apostle because that I persecuted the church of Alaha [9]I am the least of the apostles, and am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of Aloha:
[10]By the grace but of Alaha I am whatever I am and His grace that is in me not has been worthless but more than all of them I have labored not I but His grace that is with me [10]But by the grace of Aloha I am what I am; and his grace in me was not in vain; but more than all have I laboured, [yet] not I, but his grace which is with me.
[11]If I therefore or if those in this way we preach and in this way you have believed [11]Whether I then, or they, so we have proclaimed, and so have you believed.
[12]If but The Messiah is preached Who arose from among the dead how? are there among you persons who say there is not life for the dead [12]But if the Meshiha is proclaimed that he rose from the dead, how are there among you some who say that there is no life for the dead?
[13]And if Life for the dead there is not not even The Messiah is risen [13]And if there be no life for the dead, [then] neither hath the Meshiha risen.
[14]And if The Messiah not is risen worthless is our preaching is worthless also your faith [14]And if the Meshiha hath not risen, vain is our proclamation, and vain also your faith.
[15]Found we are but also witnesses lying of Alaha for we testified of Alaha that He raised The Messiah when not He raised Him [15]But we are also found false witnesses of Aloha; for we have testified of Aloha that he hath raised the Meshiha, while he hath not raised [him].
[16]If those who died for not live again not even The Messiah lives [16]For if the dead rise not, Meshiha also hath not risen
[17]And if The Messiah not is alive empty is your faith and yet in your sins you are [17]And if Meshiha hath not risen, your faith is made void and you are still in your sins.
[18]And doubtless also those who are asleep in The Messiah have perished themselves [18]And already have they too who have slept in Meshiha perished.
[19]And if in these it is lives only we hope in The Messiah we are wretched so it is more than all children of men [19]And if in this life only we hope in the Meshiha, more miserable are we than all men.
[20]Now but The Messiah is risen from the place of the dead and is The First-Fruits of the sleeping ones [20]BUT now hath the Meshiha risen from among the dead, and become the first-fruits of those who sleep.
[21]And just as by a man was death in this way also by a Man was the life of the dead [21]And as by man was death, so also by man is the life of the dead.
[22]Just as for by Adam all of them the children of men die in this way also by The Messiah all of them shall live [22]For as in Adam all men die, so also in the Meshiha are all made alive:
[23]Each person in his order The First Fruits was The Messiah after this those who The Messiah's are at His arrival [23]Every one in his order: the first-fruits was the Meshiha; afterward they who are of the Meshiha at his coming.
[24]And then will be the end when He will deliver the kingdom to Alaha The Father when He will destroy every ruler and every authority and all powers [24]And then will be the end, when he delivereth the kingdom unto Aloha the Father; when he abolisheth every head, and all authority and all powers.
[25]Going He is for to reign until will be set His enemies all of them under His feet [25]For it is to be that he shall reign until he hath set all his adversaries beneath his feet,
[26]And the last enemy shall be destroyed death [26]And the last enemy be abolished, [which is] death.
[27]All for He brought to submission under His feet when that says but "all things are subjected to Him it is understood that it is excepting for Him Who subjected to Him all [27]For every thing he subjecteth beneath his feet. But when he saith that every thing is subjected to him, it is evident that [it is] with the exception of him who hath subjected to him all.
[28]And when is subjected to Him all then The Son shall be subject to Him Who subjected to Him all that may be Alaha all in all [28]And when all shall have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to him who had made subject to him all, that Aloha may be all in all.
[29]Otherwise what? shall do those who are baptized for the sake of the dead if the dead not live again why? are they baptized for the sake of the dead [29]Else what shall they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead arise not? Why are they baptized for the dead?
[30]And why? also are we in every hour in peril living [30]And why also every hour are we standing in peril?
[31]Swear I by your boasting my brothers that is for me in our Lord Ieshu The Messiah that every day die I [31]I asseverate, by your glorying, my brethren, which is mine in our Lord Jeshu Meshiha, that daily I die!
[32]If as a citizen of the people I was cast to wild beasts in Ephesus what? have I gained if the dead not rise let us eat and let us drink tomorrow for we die [32]If as among men I have been thrown to beasts at Ephesus, what have I profited if the dead do not arise? Let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die...
[33]Not be deceived corrupts minds pleasant discourse evil [33]Mistake not; for evil narrations corrupt well-disposed minds.
[34]Awaken your hearts justly and not sin there are for some whom the knowledge of Alaha there is not in them to your shame that say I [34]AWAKEN your hearts rightly, and sin not; for there are some who have not the knowledge of Aloha; to your shame I say it.
[35]Will say someone of you how? rise the dead and in what? body do they come [35]Some one of you will say, How arise the dead, and with what body come they?
[36]Fools the seed that plant you if not it dies not it will live [36]Fool, the seed which thou sowest, unless it die, lives not:
[37]And that thing which sow you not is that body that is going to be sow you but a grain naked of wheat or of barley or of other grains [37]And that thing which thou sowest is not the body that is to be, but thou sowest naked grain, of wheat, or of barley, or of the rest of seeds;
[38]Alaha but gives to it a body just as He chooses and to each one of the grains a body of its nature [38]But Aloha giveth it a body as he willeth, and to each of the seeds a body of its own nature.
[39]Not was but every body equal to another there is for the body of a son of man and another of oxen and another of a bird another of a fish [39]For every body is not alike: for there is one body of man, and another of the beast, and another of the fowl, and another of fishes.
[40]And there is a body heavenly and there is a body earthly but one there is the glory of the heavenly and another of the earthly [40]There are heavenly bodies, and there are earthly bodies; but one is the glory of the heavenly, and another of the earthly.
[41]And one is the glory of the sun and another glory of the moon and another the glory of a star and one star than another star greater is in glory [41]There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; and star excelleth star in glory.
[42]Thus also is the life for those who die they are sown with corruption they rise without corruption [42]So also is the life of the dead. They are sown in corruption, they arise without corruption.
[43]They are sown with disgrace they rise with glory they are sown in weakness they rise in power [43]They are sown in baseness, they arise in glory. They are sown in weakness, they arise in power.
[44]They are sown a body animal it rises a body spiritual there is for a body animal and there is a body spiritual [44]It is sown an animal body, it ariseth a body spiritual. For there is a body of the animal, and there is a body of the spirit;
[45]Thus also it is written was Adam man the first a soul living and Adam The Last The Spirit The Life Giver [45]As also it is written, Adam the first man became a living soul, and the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
[46]But not was first the spiritual but the animal and then the spiritual [46]But the spiritual was not first, but the animal; and then the spiritual.
[47]The man the first dust that is from the ground The Man second the Lord from Heaven [47]The first man who is of the earth is dust, the second man the Lord from heaven.
[48]Just as he who a being is dusty so also the dusty and just as He Who The Being is Who from Heaven so also the Heavenly [48]As was he who was dust, so also are they who are dust: as is he who is from heaven, so also are the heavenly ones.
[49]And as we have worn the image of him from the dust thus we shall wear the image of Him from Heaven [49]And as we have worn the likeness of him who was dust, so shall we wear the likeness of him who is from heaven.
[50]This but say I my brethren " flesh and blood the kingdom of Heaven to inherit not are able neither corruption inherits in- destructibility [50]But this I say, my brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; nor doth corruption inherit incorruption.
[51]Behold tell I to you a mystery not all of us shall sleep all of us but we shall be transformed [51]Behold, I tell you the mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we all shall be changed:
[52]Suddenly like the blink of an eye at the trumpet last when it will sound and shall rise the dead without corruption and we shall be transformed [52]Suddenly, as in the twinkling of the eye, at the last trumpet, while it calleth; and the dead will arise without corruption, and we shall be changed.
[53]Going is for this destructible to wear in- -destructibility and this mortal to wear im- mortality [53]For this which is corruptible shall put on incorruption, and likewise [this] which dieth shall put on immortality.
[54]Whenever puts on but this destructible in- -destructibility and this mortal im- mortality then will come to pass word that that is written " is swallowed death by Victory [54]But when this which is corruptible shall put on incorruptibleness, and this which dieth, immortality, then shall be done that word which is written, Death is swallowed up in victory!
[55]Where is? your sting Death Oh! where? is your victory Sheol [55]Where is thy sting, Death? and where is thy victory Shiul?
[56]The sting but of death sin is and the power of sin The Written Law is [56]But the sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
[57]Thank but to Alaha Who gives us the victory by our Lord Ieshu The Messiah [57]But thanks be to Aloha, who giveth us the victory by the hand of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha.
[58]From now on my brethren and beloved be steadfast and not be you shaken but be abounding in every time in the work of the Lord as know you that your toil not has been worthless in the Lord [58]Wherefore, my brethren, my beloved, be steadfast, be not moved, but be abounding in all time in the work of the Lord, while you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
