LXX(EN)
[1]And BenhadadH1130 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 gatheredH6908 all his hostH2428 togetherH6908[H8804]: and there were thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 kingsH4428 with him, and horsesH5483, and chariotsH7393: and he went upH5927[H8799] and besiegedH6696[H8799] SamariaH8111, and warredH3898 against itH8735. [1]And Nabuthai the Jezraelite had a vineyard, near the threshingfloor of Achaab king of Samaria.
[2]And he sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 to AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 into the cityH5892, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, Thus saithH559[H8804] BenhadadH1130, [2]And Achaab spoke to Nabuthai, saying, Give me thy vineyard, and I will have it for a garden of herbs, for it is near my house: and I will give thee another vineyard better than it; or if it please thee, I will give thee money, the price of this thy vineyard, and I will have it for a garden of herbs.
[3]Thy silverH3701 and thy goldH2091 is mine; thy wivesH802 also and thy childrenH1121, even the goodliest, are mineH2896. [3]And Nabuthai said to Achaab, My God forbid me that I should give thee the inheritance of my fathers.
[4]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], My lordH113, O kingH4428, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I haveH1697. [4]And the spirit of Achaab was troubled, and he lay down upon his bed, and covered his face, and ate no bread.
[5]And the messengersH4397 came againH7725[H8799], and saidH559[H8799], Thus speakethH559[H8804] BenhadadH1130, sayingH559[H8800], Although I have sentH7971[H8804] unto thee, sayingH559[H8800], Thou shalt deliverH5414[H8799] me thy silverH3701, and thy goldH2091, and thy wivesH802, and thy childrenH1121; [5]And Jezabel his wife went in to him, and spoke to him, saying, Why is thy spirit troubled, and why dost thou eat no bread?
[6]Yet I will sendH7971[H8799] my servantsH5650 unto thee to morrowH4279 about this timeH6256, and they shall searchH2664[H8765] thine houseH1004, and the housesH1004 of thy servantsH5650; and it shall beH1961[H8804], that whatsoever is pleasantH4261 in thine eyesH5869, they shall putH7760[H8799] it in their handH3027, and take it awayH3947.[H8804] [6]And he said to her, Because I spoke to Nabuthai the Jezraelite, saying, Give me thy vineyard for money; or if thou wilt, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers.
[7]Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121[H8799] all the eldersH2205 of the landH776, and saidH559[H8799], MarkH3045[H8798], I pray you, and seeH7200[H8798] how this man seekethH1245[H8764] mischiefH7451: for he sentH7971[H8804] unto me for my wivesH802, and for my childrenH1121, and for my silverH3701, and for my goldH2091; and I deniedH4513 him notH8804. [7]And Jezabel his wife said to him, Dost thou now thus act the king over Israel? arise, and eat bread, and be thine own master, and I will give thee the vineyard of Nabuthai the Jezraelite.
[8]And all the eldersH2205 and all the peopleH5971 saidH559[H8799] unto him, HearkenH8085[H8799] not unto him, nor consentH14.[H8799] [8]And she wrote a letter in the name of Achaab, and sealed it with his seal, and sent the letter to the elders, and to the freemen who dwelt with Nabuthai.
[9]Wherefore he saidH559[H8799] unto the messengersH4397 of BenhadadH1130, TellH559[H8798] my lordH113 the kingH4428, All that thou didst sendH7971[H8804] for to thy servantH5650 at the firstH7223 I will doH6213[H8799]: but this thingH1697 I mayH3201[H8799] not doH6213[H8800]. And the messengersH4397 departedH3212[H8799], and broughtH7725 him wordH1697 againH7725.[H8686] [9]And it was written in the letters, saying, Keep a fast, and set Naboth in a chief place among the people.
[10]And BenhadadH1130 sentH7971[H8799] unto him, and saidH559[H8799], The godsH430 do soH6213[H8799] unto me, and more alsoH3254[H8686], if the dustH6083 of SamariaH8111 shall sufficeH5606[H8799] for handfulsH8168 for all the peopleH5971 that follow meH7272. [10]And set two men, sons of transgressors, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, He blessed God and the king: and let them lead him forth, and stone him, and let them die.
[11]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], TellH1696[H8761] him, Let not him that girdethH2296[H8802] on his harness boastH1984[H8691] himself as he that putteth it offH6605.[H8764] [11]And the men of his city, the elders, and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezabel sent to them, and as it had been written in the letters which she sent to them.
[12]And it came to pass, when Benhadad heardH8085[H8800] this messageH1697, as he was drinkingH8354[H8802], he and the kingsH4428 in the pavilionsH5521, that he saidH559[H8799] unto his servantsH5650, SetH7760[H8798] yourselves in array. And they setH7760[H8799] themselves in array against the cityH5892. [12]And they proclaimed a fast, and set Nebuthai in a chief place among the people.
[13]And, behold, there cameH5066[H8738] aH259 prophetH5030 unto AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Hast thou seenH7200[H8804] all this greatH1419 multitudeH1995? behold, I will deliverH5414[H8802] it into thine handH3027 this dayH3117; and thou shalt knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068. [13]And two men, sons of transgressors, came in, and sat opposite him, and bore witness against him, saying, Thou hast blessed God and the king. And they led him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, and he died.
[14]And AhabH256 saidH559[H8799], By whom? And he saidH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Even by the young menH5288 of the princesH8269 of the provincesH4082. Then he saidH559[H8799], Who shall orderH631[H8799] the battleH4421? And he answeredH559, ThouH8799. [14]And they sent to Jezabel, saying, Nabuthai is stoned, and is dead.
[15]Then he numberedH6485[H8799] the young menH5288 of the princesH8269 of the provincesH4082, and they were twoH8147 hundredH3967 and thirtyH7970 twoH8147: and afterH310 them he numberedH6485[H8804] all the peopleH5971, even all the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, being sevenH7651 thousandH505. [15]And it came to pass, when Jezabel heard it, that she said to Achaab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Nabuthai the Jezraelite, who would not sell it to thee: for Nebuthai is not alive, for he is dead.
[16]And they went outH3318[H8799] at noonH6672. But BenhadadH1130 was drinkingH8354[H8802] himself drunkH7910 in the pavilionsH5521, he and the kingsH4428, the thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 kingsH4428 that helpedH5826 himH8802. [16]And it came to pass, when Achaab heard that Nabuthai the Jezraelite was dead, that he rent his garments, and put on sackcloth. And it came to pass afterward, that Achaab arose and went down to the vineyard of Nabuthai the Jezraelite, to take possession of it.
[17]And the young menH5288 of the princesH8269 of the provincesH4082 went outH3318[H8799] firstH7223; and BenhadadH1130 sent outH7971[H8799], and they toldH5046[H8686] him, sayingH559[H8800], There are menH582 come outH3318[H8804] of SamariaH8111. [17]And the Lord spoke to Eliu the Thesbite, saying,
[18]And he saidH559[H8799], Whether they be come outH3318[H8804] for peaceH7965, takeH8610[H8798] them aliveH2416; or whether they be come outH3318[H8804] for warH4421, takeH8610[H8798] them aliveH2416. [18]Arise, and go down to meet Achaab king of Israel, who is in Samaria, for he is in the vineyard of Nabuthai, for he has gone down thither to take possession of it.
[19]So these young menH5288 of the princesH8269 of the provincesH4082 came outH3318[H8804] of the cityH5892, and the armyH2428 which followed themH310. [19]And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Forasmuch as thou hast slain and taken possession, therefore thus saith the Lord, In every place where the swine and the dogs have licked the blood of Nabuthai, there shall the dogs lick thy blood; and the harlots shall wash themselves in thy blood.
[20]And they slewH5221[H8686] every oneH376 his manH376: and the SyriansH758 fledH5127[H8799]; and IsraelH3478 pursuedH7291[H8799] them: and BenhadadH1130 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 escapedH4422[H8735] on an horseH5483 with the horsemenH6571. [20]And Achaab said to Eliu, Hast thou found me, mine enemy? and he said, I have found thee: because thou hast wickedly sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger;
[21]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 went outH3318[H8799], and smoteH5221[H8686] the horsesH5483 and chariotsH7393, and slewH5221[H8689] the SyriansH758 with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. [21]behold, I bring evil upon thee: and I will kindle a fire after thee, and I will utterly destroy every male of Achaab, and him that is shut up and him that is left in Israel.
[22]And the prophetH5030 cameH5066[H8799] to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, and saidH559[H8799] unto him, GoH3212[H8798], strengthenH2388[H8690] thyself, and markH3045[H8798], and seeH7200[H8798] what thou doestH6213[H8799]: for at the returnH8666 of the yearH8141 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 will come upH5927 against theeH8802. [22]And I will make thy house as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and as the house of Baasa son of Achia, because of the provocations wherewith thou hast provoked me, and caused Israel to sin.
[23]And the servantsH5650 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 saidH559[H8804] unto him, Their godsH430 are godsH430 of the hillsH2022; therefore they were strongerH2388[H8804] than we; butH199 let us fightH3898[H8735] against them in the plainH4334, and surelyH3808 we shall be strongerH2388 than theyH8799. [23]And the Lord spoke of Jezabel, saying, The dogs shall devour her within the fortification of Jezrael.
[24]And doH6213[H8798] this thingH1697, TakeH5493[H8685] the kingsH4428 away, every manH376 out of his placeH4725, and putH7760[H8798] captains in their roomsH6346: [24]Him that is dead of Achaab in the city shall the dogs eat, and him that is dead of him in the field shall the birds of the sky eat.
[25]And numberH4487[H8799] thee an armyH2428, like the armyH2428 that thou hast lostH5307[H8802], horseH5483 for horseH5483, and chariotH7393 for chariotH7393: and we will fightH3898[H8735] againstH854 them in the plainH4334, and surely we shall be strongerH2388[H8799] than they. And he hearkenedH8085[H8799] unto their voiceH6963, and did soH6213.[H8799] [25]But Achaab did wickedly, in that he sold himself to do that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his wife Jezabel led him astray.
[26]And it came to pass at the returnH8666 of the yearH8141, that BenhadadH1130 numberedH6485[H8799] the SyriansH758, and went upH5927[H8799] to AphekH663, to fightH4421 against IsraelH3478. [26]And he did very abominably in following after the abominations, according to all that the Amorite did, whom the Lord utterly destroyed from before the children of Israel.
[27]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were numberedH6485[H8719], and were all presentH3557[H8791], and wentH3212[H8799] againstH7125[H8800] them: and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 pitchedH2583[H8799] before them like twoH8147 little flocksH2835 of kidsH5795; but the SyriansH758 filledH4390[H8765] the countryH776. [27]And because of the word, Achaab was pierced with sorrow before the Lord, and he both went weeping, and rent his garment, and girt sackcloth upon his body, and fasted; he put on sackcloth also in the day that he smote Nabuthai the Jezraelite, and went his way.
[28]And there cameH5066[H8799] a manH376 of GodH430, and spakeH559[H8799] unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, and saidH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Because the SyriansH758 have saidH559[H8804], The LORDH3068 is GodH430 of the hillsH2022, but he is not GodH430 of the valleysH6010, therefore will I deliverH5414[H8804] all this greatH1419 multitudeH1995 into thine handH3027, and ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068. [28]And the word of the Lord came by the hand of his servant Eliu concerning Achaab, and the Lord said,
[29]And they pitchedH2583[H8799] oneH428 over againstH5227 the otherH428 sevenH7651 daysH3117. And so it was, that in the seventhH7637 dayH3117 the battleH4421 was joinedH7126[H8799]: and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 slewH5221[H8686] of the SyriansH758 an hundredH3967 thousandH505 footmenH7273 in oneH259 dayH3117. [29]Hast thou seen how Achaab has been pricked to the heart before me? I will not bring on the evil in his days, but in his son's days will I bring on the evil.
[30]But the restH3498[H8737] fledH5127[H8799] to AphekH663, into the cityH5892; and there a wallH2346 fellH5307[H8799] upon twentyH6242 and sevenH7651 thousandH505 of the menH376 that were leftH3498[H8737]. And BenhadadH1130 fledH5127[H8804], and cameH935[H8799] into the cityH5892, into an innerH2315 chamberH2315. 30[No verse]
[31]And his servantsH5650 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Behold now, we have heardH8085[H8804] that the kingsH4428 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 are mercifulH2617 kingsH4428: let us, I pray thee, putH7760[H8799] sackclothH8242 on our loinsH4975, and ropesH2256 upon our headsH7218, and go outH3318[H8799] to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478: peradventure he will saveH2421[H8762] thy lifeH5315. 31[No verse]
[32]So they girdedH2296[H8799] sackclothH8242 on their loinsH4975, and put ropesH2256 on their headsH7218, and cameH935[H8799] to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, and saidH559[H8799], Thy servantH5650 BenhadadH1130 saithH559[H8804], I pray thee, let me liveH2421[H8799][H5315]. And he saidH559[H8799], Is he yet aliveH2416? he is my brotherH251. 32[No verse]
[33]Now the menH582 did diligently observeH5172[H8762] whether any thing would come from him, and did hastilyH4116[H8762] catchH2480[H8686] it: and they saidH559[H8799], Thy brotherH251 BenhadadH1130. Then he saidH559[H8799], GoH935[H8798] ye, bringH3947[H8798] him. Then BenhadadH1130 came forthH3318[H8799] to him; and he caused him to come upH5927[H8686] into the chariotH4818. 33[No verse]
[34]And Benhadad saidH559[H8799] unto him, The citiesH5892, which my fatherH1 tookH3947[H8804] from thy fatherH1, I will restoreH7725[H8686]; and thou shalt makeH7760[H8799] streetsH2351 for thee in DamascusH1834, as my fatherH1 madeH7760[H8804] in SamariaH8111. Then said Ahab, I will send thee awayH7971[H8762] with this covenantH1285. So he madeH3772[H8799] a covenantH1285 with him, and sent him awayH7971.[H8762] 34[No verse]
[35]And a certainH259 manH376 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 saidH559[H8804] unto his neighbourH7453 in the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, SmiteH5221[H8685] me, I pray thee. And the manH376 refusedH3985[H8762] to smiteH5221 himH8687. 35[No verse]
[36]Then saidH559[H8799] he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyedH8085[H8804] the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, behold, as soon as thou art departedH1980[H8802] from me, a lionH738 shall slayH5221[H8689] thee. And as soon as he was departedH3212[H8799] from himH681, a lionH738 foundH4672[H8799] him, and slewH5221 himH8686. 36[No verse]
[37]Then he foundH4672[H8799] anotherH312 manH376, and saidH559[H8799], SmiteH5221[H8685] me, I pray thee. And the manH376 smoteH5221[H8686] him, so that in smitingH5221[H8687] he woundedH6481 himH8800. 37[No verse]
[38]So the prophetH5030 departedH3212[H8799], and waitedH5975[H8799] for the kingH4428 by the wayH1870, and disguisedH2664[H8691] himself with ashesH666 upon his faceH5869. 38[No verse]
[39]And as the kingH4428 passed byH5674[H8802], he criedH6817[H8804] unto the kingH4428: and he saidH559[H8799], Thy servantH5650 went outH3318[H8804] into the midstH7130 of the battleH4421; and, behold, a manH376 turned asideH5493[H8804], and broughtH935[H8686] a manH376 unto me, and saidH559[H8799], KeepH8104[H8798] this manH376: if by any meansH6485[H8736] he be missingH6485[H8735], then shall thy lifeH5315 be for his lifeH5315, or else thou shalt payH8254[H8799] a talentH3603 of silverH3701. 39[No verse]
[40]And as thy servantH5650 was busyH6213[H8802] here and there, he was goneH369. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] unto him, So shall thy judgmentH4941 be; thyself hast decidedH2782 itH8804. 40[No verse]
[41]And he hastedH4116[H8762], and took the ashesH666 awayH5493[H8686] from his faceH5869; and the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 discernedH5234[H8686] him that he was of the prophetsH5030. 41[No verse]
[42]And he saidH559[H8799] unto him, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Because thou hast let goH7971[H8765] out of thy handH3027 a manH376 whom I appointed to utter destructionH2764, therefore thy lifeH5315 shall go for his lifeH5315, and thy peopleH5971 for his peopleH5971. 42[No verse]
[43]And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH3212[H8799] to his houseH1004 heavyH5620 and displeasedH2198, and cameH935[H8799] to SamariaH8111. 43[No verse]
