Peshitta NT (Etheridge, 1849)
PesNT(Eth)
[1]In this way also you women submit to your husbands that those who not obey the word in your way of life beautiful without labor may win them [1]So you also, wives, be subject to your own husbands, that them who have not obeyed the word, by your comely manners without labour you may win,
[2]When they see that in reverence and with discretion conduct yourselves you [2]While they see that with reverence and with chastity you conduct yourselves.
[3]And not be you adorned with ornaments outward of braids of your hair or of jewelry of gold or clothing fine [3]Neither be adorned with outward adornings of the entwinement of your hair, or necklaces of gold, or of excelling vestments,
[4]But be adorned in the person secret of the heart in a spirit humble that not is corruptible an ornament excellent before Alaha [4]But adorn yourselves in the hidden man of the heart, with the spirit of gentleness which perisheth not, the ornament of excellence before Aloha.
[5]In this way for also from the first women holy those who hoping were in Alaha adorning were their souls and submitted were to their husbands [5]For so also of old the holy women who confided in Aloha adorned themselves, and were subject to their husbands,
[6]Just as Sara subject was to Abraham and calling was him my lord she whose are you to her daughters by works good when not are shaken you with any fear [6]Even as Sara was subject to Abraham, and called him My Lord: of her be you the daughters in good works, not being perturbed by any fear.
[7]And you men in this way dwell with your wives by knowledge and as vessels weaker in honor hold them because also those with you inherit the gift of life eternal that not you will stumble in your prayers [7]AND you, men, dwell likewise with your wives with knowledge, and as feeble vessels in honour hold them; for they also with you inherit the gift of the life of eternity; that you be not hindered in your prayers.
[8]The conclusion is but that you would be all of you in harmony and be you suffering with those who suffer and love one another and be you merciful and humble [8]But, finally be all unanimous, and suffer with those who suffer, and love one another, and be merciful and gentle;
[9]And to a person evil in exchange for evil not you should pay neither insults in exchange for insults but to the contrary of these things be you blessing to this for you are called that the blessing you would inherit [9]And let no man render evil for evil, nor invective for invective, but, that which is contrary to them, bless: for unto this are you called, that the blessing you may inherit.
[10]Whoever desires therefore life and loves days good to see let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips not should speak deceit [10]Who then willeth life, and loveth good days to see? Let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak not guile.
[11]Let him pass from wickedness and let him do good and let him seek peace and let him run after it [11]Let him depart from evil and do good, and seek peace and run after it.
[12]Because the eyes of the Lord upon the righteous and His ears to hear them and the face of the Lord against the evil [12]For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears, to hear them; and the face of the Lord is against the wicked.
[13]And who is? to do to you evil if you will be zealous of good [13]And who [is he] who will do you evil if you be emulous of good [actions]?
[14]And if He you suffer for the sake of righteousness you are blessed and not be afraid of those who terrorize you and not be provoked [14]And [yet] if you suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are happy. And you will not fear them who would make you afraid, nor be shaken.
[15]But hallow in your hearts the Lord The Messiah and be you ready to return a defense to everyone who requests of you a statement about the hope of your faith in meekness and in reverence [15]But sanctify in your hearts the Lord Meshiha. AND be prepared to make defence to every one who shall seek of you speech concerning the hope of the faith, with meekness and with seriousness,
[16]While is to you a conscience good just as that those who speak against you as against people evil may be ashamed as people who reject your way of life beautiful which is in The Messiah [16]While you have a good conscience; that as they speak against you as against evil men, they may be made ashamed who have traduced your good conversations in the Meshiha.
[17]An advantage it is to you for that when doing you works good you suffer evil if in this way it is the will of Alaha and not when are doing you evil [17]For it helpeth you [if] while doing goodly works you have to sustain evil, if so it be the will of Aloha, and not while working evils.
[18]Because that also The Messiah one time died because of our sins The Righteous One for the sake of sinners to bring you to Alaha and He died in body and lived in Spirit [18]Because the Meshiha also once died on account of sins, the just on account of sinners, that he might bring us unto Aloha. And dead in the body and alive in the Spirit,
[19]And He proclaimed to souls those who held were in Sheol [19]He preached unto those souls who were held in sheul,
[20]These who from the first not convinced were in the days of Noah when ? the longsuffering of Alaha commanded that there be an ark upon the hope of their repentance and eight only souls entered it and were kept alive by the waters [20]Those who before were disobedient in the days of Nûch; while the long-suffering of Aloha commanded that he should make the ark, upon the hope of their conversion, and eight souls only entered therein, and were saved in the waters.
[21]For also you in Him by that simile are saved you by baptism not when the body wash you from impurity but when confess you Alaha with a conscience pure and by the resurrection of Ieshu The Messiah [21]After which very type also you are saved in baptism, not while you cleanse the body from filth, but while you make confession of Aloha with a pure conscience, and of the resurrection of Jeshu Meshiha;
[22]He Who has been escorted into Heaven and He is upon the right side of Alaha and are subjected to Him the Angels and The Principalities and The Powers [22]Who is exalted unto heaven, and is at the right hand of Aloha, and unto whom are subject angels and authorities and powers.
