But he toldH5046[H8689] not his fatherH1. |
[1]וַיְהִי הַיֹּום וַיֹּאמֶר יֹונָתָן בֶּן־שָׁאוּל אֶל־הַנַּעַר נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו לְכָה וְנַעְבְּרָה אֶל־מַצַּב פְּלִשְׁתִּים אֲשֶׁר מֵעֵבֶר הַלָּז וּלְאָבִיו לֹא הִגִּיד׃ |
| [2]And SaulH7586 tarriedH3427[H8802] in the uttermostH7097 part of GibeahH1390 under a pomegranate treeH7416 which is in MigronH4051: and the peopleH5971 that were with him were about sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376; |
[2]וְשָׁאוּל יֹושֵׁב בִּקְצֵה הַגִּבְעָה תַּחַת הָרִמֹּון אֲשֶׁר בְּמִגְרֹון וְהָעָם אֲשֶׁר עִמֹּו כְּשֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות אִישׁ׃ |
| [3]And AhiahH281, the sonH1121 of AhitubH285, Ichabod'sH350 brotherH251, the sonH1121 of PhinehasH6372, the sonH1121 of EliH5941, the LORD'SH3068 priestH3548 in ShilohH7887, wearingH5375[H8802] an ephodH646. And the peopleH5971 knewH3045[H8804] not that JonathanH3129 was goneH1980.[H8804] |
[3]וַאֲחִיָּה בֶן־אֲחִטוּב אֲחִי אִיכָבֹוד בֶּן־פִּינְחָס בֶּן־עֵלִי כֹּהֵן יְהוָה בְּשִׁלֹו נֹשֵׂא אֵפֹוד וְהָעָם לֹא יָדַע כִּי הָלַךְ יֹונָתָן׃ |
| [4]And between the passagesH4569, by which JonathanH3129 soughtH1245[H8765] to go overH5674[H8800] unto the Philistines'H6430 garrisonH4673, there was a sharpH8127 rockH5553 on the one sideH5676, and a sharpH8127 rockH5553 on the other sideH5676: and the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was BozezH949, and the nameH8034 of the otherH259 SenehH5573. |
[4]וּבֵין הַמַּעְבְּרֹות אֲשֶׁר בִּקֵּשׁ יֹונָתָן לַעֲבֹר עַל־מַצַּב פְּלִשְׁתִּים שֵׁן־הַסֶּלַע מֵהָעֵבֶר מִזֶּה וְשֵׁן־הַסֶּלַע מֵהָעֵבֶר מִזֶּה וְשֵׁם הָאֶחָד בֹּוץֵץ וְשֵׁם הָאֶחָד סֶנֶּה׃ |
| [5]The forefrontH8127 of the oneH259 was situateH4690 northwardH6828 over againstH4136 MichmashH4363, and the otherH259 southwardH5045 over againstH4136 GibeahH1387. |
[5]הַשֵּׁן הָאֶחָד מָצוּק מִצָּפֹון מוּל מִכְמָשׂ וְהָאֶחָד מִנֶּגֶב מוּל גָּבַע׃ |
| [6]And JonathanH3083 saidH559[H8799] to the young manH5288 that bareH5375[H8802] his armourH3627, ComeH3212[H8798], and let us go overH5674[H8799] unto the garrisonH4673 of these uncircumcisedH6189: it may be that the LORDH3068 will workH6213[H8799] for us: for there is no restraintH4622 to the LORDH3068 to saveH3467[H8687] by manyH7227 or by fewH4592. |
[6]וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹונָתָן אֶל־הַנַּעַר נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו לְכָה וְנַעְבְּרָה אֶל־מַצַּב הָעֲרֵלִים הָאֵלֶּה אוּלַי יַעֲשֶׂה יְהוָה לָנוּ כִּי אֵין לַיהוָה מַעְצֹור לְהֹושִׁיעַ בְּרַב אֹו בִמְעָט׃ |
| [7]And his armourbearerH5375[H8802][H3627] saidH559[H8799] unto him, DoH6213[H8798] all that is in thine heartH3824: turnH5186[H8798] thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heartH3824. |
[7]וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו עֲשֵׂה כָּל־אֲשֶׁר בִּלְבָבֶךָ נְטֵה לָךְ הִנְנִי עִמְּךָ כִּלְבָבֶךָ׃ |
| [8]Then saidH559[H8799] JonathanH3083, Behold, we will pass overH5674[H8802] unto these menH582, and we will discoverH1540 ourselves unto themH8738. |
[8]וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹונָתָן הִנֵּה אֲנַחְנוּ עֹבְרִים אֶל־הָאֲנָשִׁים וְנִגְלִינוּ אֲלֵיהֶם׃ |
| [9]If they sayH559[H8799] thus unto us, TarryH1826[H8798] until we comeH5060[H8687] to you; then we will stand stillH5975[H8804] in our place, and will not go upH5927 unto themH8799. |
[9]אִם־כֹּה יֹאמְרוּ אֵלֵינוּ דֹּמּוּ עַד־הַגִּיעֵנוּ אֲלֵיכֶם וְעָמַדְנוּ תַחְתֵּינוּ וְלֹא נַעֲלֶה אֲלֵיהֶם׃ |
| [10]But if they sayH559[H8799] thus, Come upH5927[H8798] unto us; then we will go upH5927[H8804]: for the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414[H8804] them into our handH3027: and this shall be a sign unto usH226. |
[10]וְאִם־כֹּה יֹאמְרוּ עֲלוּ עָלֵינוּ וְעָלִינוּ כִּי־נְתָנָם יְהוָה בְּיָדֵנוּ וְזֶה־לָּנוּ הָאֹות׃ |
| [11]And bothH8147 of them discoveredH1540[H8735] themselves unto the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH6430 saidH559[H8799], Behold, the HebrewsH5680 come forthH3318[H8802] out of the holesH2356 where they had hidH2244 themselvesH8694. |
[11]וַיִּגָּלוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם אֶל־מַצַּב פְּלִשְׁתִּים וַיֹּאמְרוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים הִנֵּה עִבְרִים יֹצְאִים מִן־הַחֹרִים אֲשֶׁר הִתְחַבְּאוּ־שָׁם׃ |
| [12]And the menH582 of the garrisonH4675 answeredH6030[H8799] JonathanH3129 and his armourbearerH5375[H8802][H3627], and saidH559[H8799], Come upH5927[H8798] to us, and we will shewH3045[H8686] you a thingH1697. And JonathanH3129 saidH559[H8799] unto his armourbearerH5375[H8802][H3627], Come upH5927[H8798] afterH310 me: for the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414[H8804] them into the handH3027 of IsraelH3478. |
[12]וַיַּעֲנוּ אַנְשֵׁי הַמַּצָּבָה אֶת־יֹונָתָן וְאֶת־נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו וַיֹּאמְרוּ עֲלוּ אֵלֵינוּ וְנֹודִיעָה אֶתְכֶם דָּבָר וַיֹּאמֶר יֹונָתָן אֶל־נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו עֲלֵה אַחֲרַי כִּי־נְתָנָם יְהוָה בְּיַד יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
| [13]And JonathanH3129 climbed upH5927[H8799] upon his handsH3027 and upon his feetH7272, and his armourbearerH5375[H8802][H3627] afterH310 him: and they fellH5307[H8799] beforeH6440 JonathanH3129; and his armourbearerH5375[H8802][H3627] slewH4191[H8789] after himH310. |
[13]וַיַּעַל יֹונָתָן עַל־יָדָיו וְעַל־רַגְלָיו וְנֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו אַחֲרָיו וַיִּפְּלוּ לִפְנֵי יֹונָתָן וְנֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו מְמֹותֵת אַחֲרָיו׃ |
| [14]And that firstH7223 slaughterH4347, which JonathanH3129 and his armourbearerH5375[H8802][H3627] madeH5221[H8689], was about twentyH6242 menH376, within as it were an halfH2677 acreH4618 of landH7704, which a yoke of oxen might plowH6776. |
[14]וַתְּהִי הַמַּכָּה הָרִאשֹׁנָה אֲשֶׁר הִכָּה יֹונָתָן וְנֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו כְּעֶשְׂרִים אִישׁ כְּבַחֲצִי מַעֲנָה צֶמֶד שָׂדֶה׃ |
| [15]And there was tremblingH2731 in the hostH4264, in the fieldH7704, and among all the peopleH5971: the garrisonH4673, and the spoilersH7843[H8688], they also trembledH2729[H8804], and the earthH776 quakedH7264[H8799]: so it was a very greatH430 tremblingH2731. |
[15]וַתְּהִי חֲרָדָה בַמַּחֲנֶה בַשָּׂדֶה וּבְכָל־הָעָם הַמַּצָּב וְהַמַּשְׁחִית חָרְדוּ גַּם־הֵמָּה וַתִּרְגַּז הָאָרֶץ וַתְּהִי לְחֶרְדַּת אֱלֹהִים׃ |
| [16]And the watchmenH6822[H8802] of SaulH7586 in GibeahH1390 of BenjaminH1144 lookedH7200[H8799]; and, behold, the multitudeH1995 melted awayH4127[H8738], and they wentH3212[H8799] on beating downH1986 one anotherH8800. |
[16]וַיִּרְאוּ הַצֹּפִים לְשָׁאוּל בְּגִבְעַת בִּנְיָמִן וְהִנֵּה הֶהָמֹון נָמֹוג וַיֵּלֶךְ וַהֲלֹם׃ |
| [17]Then saidH559[H8799] SaulH7586 unto the peopleH5971 that were with him, NumberH6485[H8798] now, and seeH7200[H8798] who is goneH1980[H8804] from us. And when they had numberedH6485[H8799], behold, JonathanH3129 and his armourbearerH5375[H8802] were not thereH3627. |
[17]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל לָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתֹּו פִּקְדוּ־נָא וּרְאוּ מִי הָלַךְ מֵעִמָּנוּ וַיִּפְקְדוּ וְהִנֵּה אֵין יֹונָתָן וְנֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו׃ |
| [18]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] unto AhiahH281, Bring hitherH5066[H8685] the arkH727 of GodH430. For the arkH727 of GodH430 was at that timeH3117 with the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478. |
[18]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל לַאֲחִיָּה הַגִּישָׁה אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים כִּי־הָיָה אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים בַּיֹּום הַהוּא וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
| [19]And it came to pass, while SaulH7586 talkedH1696[H8765] unto the priestH3548, that the noiseH1995 that was in the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH3212[H8799] onH1980[H8800] and increasedH7227: and SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] unto the priestH3548, WithdrawH622[H8798] thine handH3027. |
[19]וַיְהִי עַד דִּבֶּר שָׁאוּל אֶל־הַכֹּהֵן וְהֶהָמֹון אֲשֶׁר בְּמַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיֵּלֶךְ הָלֹוךְ וָרָב וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל־הַכֹּהֵן אֱסֹף יָדֶךָ׃ |
| [20]And SaulH7586 and all the peopleH5971 that were with him assembledH2199[H8735] themselves, and they cameH935[H8799] to the battleH4421: and, behold, every man'sH376 swordH2719 was against his fellowH7453, and there was a veryH3966 greatH1419 discomfitureH4103. |
[20]וַיִּזָּעֵק שָׁאוּל וְכָל־הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתֹּו וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד־הַמִּלְחָמָה וְהִנֵּה הָיְתָה חֶרֶב אִישׁ בְּרֵעֵהוּ מְהוּמָה גְּדֹולָה מְאֹד׃ |
| [21]Moreover the HebrewsH5680 that were with the PhilistinesH6430 beforeH865 that timeH8032, which went upH5927[H8804] with them into the campH4264 from the country round aboutH5439, even they also turned to be with the IsraelitesH3478 that were with SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129. |
[21]וְהָעִבְרִים הָיוּ לַפְּלִשְׁתִּים כְּאֶתְמֹול שִׁלְשֹׁום אֲשֶׁר עָלוּ עִםָּם בַּמַּחֲנֶה סָבִיב וְגַם־הֵמָּה לִהְיֹות עִם־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר עִם־שָׁאוּל וְיֹונָתָן׃ |
| [22]Likewise all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 which had hidH2244[H8693] themselves in mountH2022 EphraimH669, when they heardH8085[H8804] that the PhilistinesH6430 fledH5127[H8804], even they also followed hardH1692[H8686] afterH310 them in the battleH4421. |
[22]וְכֹל אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל הַמִּתְחַבְּאִים בְּהַר־אֶפְרַיִם שָׁמְעוּ כִּי־נָסוּ פְּלִשְׁתִּים וַיַּדְבְּקוּ גַם־הֵמָּה אַחֲרֵיהֶם בַּמִּלְחָמָה׃ |
| [23]So the LORDH3068 savedH3467[H8686] IsraelH3478 that dayH3117: and the battleH4421 passed overH5674[H8804] unto BethavenH1007. |
[23]וַיֹּושַׁע יְהוָה בַּיֹּום הַהוּא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהַמִּלְחָמָה עָבְרָה אֶת־בֵּית אָוֶן׃ |
| [24]And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 were distressedH5065[H8738] that dayH3117: for SaulH7586 had adjuredH422[H8686] the peopleH5971, sayingH559[H8800], CursedH779[H8803] be the manH376 that eatethH398[H8799] any foodH3899 until eveningH6153, that I may be avengedH5358[H8738] on mine enemiesH341[H8802]. So none of the peopleH5971 tastedH2938[H8804] any foodH3899. |
[24]וְאִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵל נִגַּשׂ בַּיֹּום הַהוּא וַיֹּאֶל שָׁאוּל אֶת־הָעָם לֵאמֹר אָרוּר הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יֹאכַל לֶחֶם עַד־הָעֶרֶב וְנִקַּמְתִּי מֵאֹיְבַי וְלֹא טָעַם כָּל־הָעָם לָחֶם׃ |
| [25]And all they of the landH776 cameH935[H8804] to a woodH3293; and there was honeyH1706 uponH6440 the groundH7704. |
[25]וְכָל־הָאָרֶץ בָּאוּ בַיָּעַר וַיְהִי דְבַשׁ עַל־פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה׃ |
| [26]And when the peopleH5971 were comeH935[H8799] into the woodH3293, behold, the honeyH1706 droppedH1982; but no man putH5381[H8688] his handH3027 to his mouthH6310: for the peopleH5971 fearedH3372[H8804] the oathH7621. |
[26]וַיָּבֹא הָעָם אֶל־הַיַּעַר וְהִנֵּה הֵלֶךְ דְּבָשׁ וְאֵין־מַשִּׂיג יָדֹו אֶל־פִּיו כִּי־יָרֵא הָעָם אֶת־הַשְּׁבֻעָה׃ |
| [27]But JonathanH3129 heardH8085[H8804] not when his fatherH1 chargedH7650 the peopleH5971 with the oathH7650[H8687]: wherefore he put forthH7971[H8799] the endH7097 of the rodH4294 that was in his handH3027, and dippedH2881[H8799] it in an honeycombH3295[H1706], and putH7725[H8686] his handH3027 to his mouthH6310; and his eyesH5869 were enlightenedH215.[H8799] |
[27]וְיֹונָתָן לֹא־שָׁמַע בְּהַשְׁבִּיעַ אָבִיו אֶת־הָעָם וַיִּשְׁלַח אֶת־קְצֵה הַמַּטֶּה אֲשֶׁר בְּיָדֹו וַיִּטְבֹּל אֹותָהּ בְּיַעְרַת הַדְּבָשׁ וַיָּשֶׁב יָדֹו אֶל־פִּיו וַתָּרֹאנָה [Q: וַתָּאֹרְנָה] עֵינָיו׃ |
| [28]Then answeredH6030[H8799] oneH376 of the peopleH5971, and saidH559[H8799], Thy fatherH1 straitlyH7650[H8687] chargedH7650 the peopleH5971 with an oathH7650[H8689], sayingH559[H8800], CursedH779[H8803] be the manH376 that eatethH398[H8799] any foodH3899 this dayH3117. And the peopleH5971 were faintH5774.[H8799] |
[28]וַיַּעַן אִישׁ מֵהָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר הַשְׁבֵּעַ הִשְׁבִּיעַ אָבִיךָ אֶת־הָעָם לֵאמֹר אָרוּר הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יֹאכַל לֶחֶם הַיֹּום וַיָּעַף הָעָם׃ |
| [29]Then saidH559[H8799] JonathanH3129, My fatherH1 hath troubledH5916[H8804] the landH776: seeH7200[H8798], I pray you, how mine eyesH5869 have been enlightenedH215[H8804], because I tastedH2938[H8804] a littleH4592 of this honeyH1706. |
[29]וַיֹּאמֶר יֹונָתָן עָכַר אָבִי אֶת־הָאָרֶץ רְאוּ־נָא כִּי־אֹרוּ עֵינַי כִּי טָעַמְתִּי מְעַט דְּבַשׁ הַזֶּה׃ |
| [30]How much moreH637, if haplyH3863 the peopleH5971 had eatenH398[H8804] freelyH398[H8800] to dayH3117 of the spoilH7998 of their enemiesH341[H8802] which they foundH4672[H8804]? for had there not been now a much greaterH7235[H8804] slaughterH4347 among the PhilistinesH6430? |
[30]אַף כִּי לוּא אָכֹל אָכַל הַיֹּום הָעָם מִשְּׁלַל אֹיְבָיו אֲשֶׁר מָצָא כִּי עַתָּה לֹא־רָבְתָה מַכָּה בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּים׃ |
| [31]And they smoteH5221[H8686] the PhilistinesH6430 that dayH3117 from MichmashH4363 to AijalonH357: and the peopleH5971 were veryH3966 faintH5774.[H8799] |
[31]וַיַּכּוּ בַּיֹּום הַהוּא בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּים מִמִּכְמָשׂ אַיָּלֹנָה וַיָּעַף הָעָם מְאֹד׃ |
| [32]And the peopleH5971 flewH5860[H8799][H6213][H8799] upon the spoilH7998, and tookH3947[H8799] sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and calvesH1121, and slewH7819[H8799] them on the groundH776: and the peopleH5971 did eatH398[H8799] them with the bloodH1818. |
[32]וַיַּעַשׂ [Q: וַיַּעַט] הָעָם אֶל־שָׁלָל הַשָּׁלָל וַיִּקְחוּ צֹאן וּבָקָר וּבְנֵי בָקָר וַיִּשְׁחֲטוּ־אָרְצָה וַיֹּאכַל הָעָם עַל־הַדָּם׃ |
| [33]Then they toldH5046[H8686] SaulH7586, sayingH559[H8800], Behold, the peopleH5971 sinH2398[H8802] against the LORDH3068, in that they eatH398[H8800] with the bloodH1818. And he saidH559[H8799], Ye have transgressedH898[H8804]: rollH1556[H8798] a greatH1419 stoneH68 unto me this dayH3117. |
[33]וַיַּגִּידוּ לְשָׁאוּל לֵאמֹר הִנֵּה הָעָם חֹטִאים לַיהוָה לֶאֱכֹל עַל־הַדָּם וַיֹּאמֶר בְּגַדְתֶּם גֹּלּוּ־אֵלַי הַיֹּום אֶבֶן גְּדֹולָה׃ |
| [34]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], DisperseH6327[H8798] yourselves among the peopleH5971, and sayH559[H8804] unto them, Bring me hitherH5066[H8685] every manH376 his oxH7794, and every manH376 his sheepH7716, and slayH7819[H8804] them here, and eatH398[H8804]; and sinH2398[H8799] not against the LORDH3068 in eatingH398[H8800] with the bloodH1818. And all the peopleH5971 broughtH5066[H8686] every manH376 his oxH7794 with himH3027 that nightH3915, and slewH7819 them thereH8799. |
[34]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל פֻּצוּ בָעָם וַאֲמַרְתֶּם לָהֶם הַגִּישׁוּ אֵלַי אִישׁ שֹׁורֹו וְאִישׁ שְׂיֵהוּ וּשְׁחַטְתֶּם בָּזֶה וַאֲכַלְתֶּם וְלֹא־תֶחֶטְאוּ לַיהוָה לֶאֱכֹל אֶל־הַדָּם וַיַּגִּשׁוּ כָל־הָעָם אִישׁ שֹׁורֹו בְיָדֹו הַלַּיְלָה וַיִּשְׁחֲטוּ־שָׁם׃ |
| [35]And SaulH7586 builtH1129[H8799] an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068: the same was the firstH2490[H8689] altarH4196 that he builtH1129[H8800] unto the LORDH3068. |
[35]וַיִּבֶן שָׁאוּל מִזְבֵּחַ לַיהוָה אֹתֹו הֵחֵל לִבְנֹות מִזְבֵּחַ לַיהוָה׃ |
| [36]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], Let us go downH3381[H8799] afterH310 the PhilistinesH6430 by nightH3915, and spoilH962[H8799] them until the morningH1242 lightH216, and let us not leaveH7604[H8686] a manH376 of them. And they saidH559[H8799], DoH6213[H8798] whatsoever seemethH5869 goodH2896 unto thee. Then saidH559[H8799] the priestH3548, Let us draw nearH7126[H8799] hitherH1988 unto GodH430. |
[36]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל נֵרְדָה אַחֲרֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים לַיְלָה וְנָבֹזָה בָהֶם עַד־אֹור הַבֹּקֶר וְלֹא־נַשְׁאֵר בָּהֶם אִישׁ וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָּל־הַטֹּוב בְּעֵינֶיךָ עֲשֵׂה וַיֹּאמֶר הַכֹּהֵן נִקְרְבָה הֲלֹם אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִים׃ |
| [37]And SaulH7586 askedH7592[H8799] counsel of GodH430, Shall I go downH3381[H8799] afterH310 the PhilistinesH6430? wilt thou deliverH5414[H8799] them into the handH3027 of IsraelH3478? But he answeredH6030[H8804] him not that dayH3117. |
[37]וַיִּשְׁאַל שָׁאוּל בֵּאלֹהִים הַאֵרֵד אַחֲרֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים הֲתִתְּנֵם בְּיַד יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא עָנָהוּ בַּיֹּום הַהוּא׃ |
| [38]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], Draw ye nearH5066[H8798] hitherH1988, all the chiefH6438 of the peopleH5971: and knowH3045[H8798] and seeH7200[H8798] whereinH4100 this sinH2403 hath been this dayH3117. |
[38]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל גֹּשׁוּ הֲלֹם כֹּל פִּנֹּות הָעָם וּדְעוּ וּרְאוּ בַּמָּה הָיְתָה הַחַטָּאת הַזֹּאת הַיֹּום׃ |
| [39]For, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, which savethH3467[H8688] IsraelH3478, though it beH3426 in JonathanH3129 my sonH1121, he shall surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8799]. But there was not a man among all the peopleH5971 that answeredH6030 himH8802. |
[39]כִּי חַי־יְהוָה הַמֹּושִׁיעַ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי אִם־יֶשְׁנֹו בְּיֹונָתָן בְּנִי כִּי מֹות יָמוּת וְאֵין עֹנֵהוּ מִכָּל־הָעָם׃ |
| [40]Then saidH559[H8799] he unto all IsraelH3478, Be ye on oneH259 sideH5676, and I and JonathanH3129 my sonH1121 will be on the otherH259 sideH5676. And the peopleH5971 saidH559[H8799] unto SaulH7586, DoH6213[H8798] what seemethH5869 good unto theeH2896. |
[40]וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל אַתֶּם תִּהְיוּ לְעֵבֶר אֶחָד וַאֲנִי וְיֹונָתָן בְּנִי נִהְיֶה לְעֵבֶר אֶחָד וַיֹּאמְרוּ הָעָם אֶל־שָׁאוּל הַטֹּוב בְּעֵינֶיךָ עֲשֵׂה׃ |
| [41]Therefore SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] unto the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, GiveH3051[H8798] a perfectH8549 lot. And SaulH7586 and JonathanH3129 were takenH3920[H8735]: but the peopleH5971 escapedH3318.[H8804] |
[41]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הָבָה תָמִים וַיִּלָּכֵד יֹונָתָן וְשָׁאוּל וְהָעָם יָצָאוּ׃ |
| [42]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], CastH5307[H8685] lots between me and JonathanH3129 my sonH1121. And JonathanH3129 was takenH3920.[H8735] |
[42]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל הַפִּילוּ בֵּינִי וּבֵין יֹונָתָן בְּנִי וַיִּלָּכֵד יֹונָתָן׃ |
| [43]Then SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] to JonathanH3129, TellH5046[H8685] me what thou hast doneH6213[H8804]. And JonathanH3129 toldH5046[H8686] him, and saidH559[H8799], I did butH2938[H8800] tasteH2938[H8804] a littleH4592 honeyH1706 with the endH7097 of the rodH4294 that was in mine handH3027, and, loH2009, I must dieH4191.[H8799] |
[43]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל־יֹונָתָן הַגִּידָה לִּי מֶה עָשִׂיתָה וַיַּגֶּד־לֹו יֹונָתָן וַיֹּאמֶר טָעֹם טָעַמְתִּי בִּקְצֵה הַמַּטֶּה אֲשֶׁר־בְּיָדִי מְעַט דְּבַשׁ הִנְנִי אָמוּת׃ |
| [44]And SaulH7586 answeredH559[H8799], GodH430 do soH6213[H8799] and more alsoH3254[H8686]: for thou shalt surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8799], JonathanH3129. |
[44]וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל כֹּה־יַעֲשֶׂה אֱלֹהִים וְכֹה יֹוסִף כִּי־מֹות תָּמוּת יֹונָתָן׃ |
| [45]And the peopleH5971 saidH559[H8799] unto SaulH7586, Shall JonathanH3129 dieH4191[H8799], who hath wroughtH6213[H8804] this greatH1419 salvationH3444 in IsraelH3478? God forbidH2486: as the LORDH3068 livethH2416, there shall not one hairH8185 of his headH7218 fallH5307[H8799] to the groundH776; for he hath wroughtH6213[H8804] with GodH430 this dayH3117. So the peopleH5971 rescuedH6299[H8799] JonathanH3129, that he diedH4191 notH8804. |
[45]וַיֹּאמֶר הָעָם אֶל־שָׁאוּל הֲיֹונָתָן יָמוּת אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה הַיְשׁוּעָה הַגְּדֹולָה הַזֹּאת בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל חָלִילָה חַי־יְהוָה אִם־יִפֹּל מִשַּׂעֲרַת רֹאשֹׁו אַרְצָה כִּי־עִם־אֱלֹהִים עָשָׂה הַיֹּום הַזֶּה וַיִּפְדּוּ הָעָם אֶת־יֹונָתָן וְלֹא־מֵת׃ |
| [46]Then SaulH7586 went upH5927[H8799] from followingH310 the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980[H8804] to their own placeH4725. |
[46]וַיַּעַל שָׁאוּל מֵאַחֲרֵי פְּלִשְׁתִּים וּפְלִשְׁתִּים הָלְכוּ לִמְקֹוםָם׃ |
| [47]So SaulH7586 tookH3920[H8804] the kingdomH4410 over IsraelH3478, and foughtH3898[H8735] against all his enemiesH341[H8802] on every sideH5439, against MoabH4124, and against the childrenH1121 of AmmonH5983, and against EdomH123, and against the kingsH4428 of ZobahH6678, and against the PhilistinesH6430: and whithersoever he turnedH6437[H8799] himself, he vexedH7561 themH8686. |
[47]וְשָׁאוּל לָכַד הַמְּלוּכָה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּלָּחֶם סָבִיב בְּכָל־אֹיְבָיו בְּמֹואָב וּבִבְנֵי־עַמֹּון וּבֶאֱדֹום וּבְמַלְכֵי צֹובָה וּבַפְּלִשְׁתִּים וּבְכֹל אֲשֶׁר־יִפְנֶה יַרְשִׁיעַ׃ |
| [48]And he gatheredH6213[H8799] an hostH2428, and smoteH5221[H8686] the AmalekitesH6002, and deliveredH5337[H8686] IsraelH3478 out of the handsH3027 of them that spoiledH8154 themH8802. |
[48]וַיַּעַשׂ חַיִל וַיַּךְ אֶת־עֲמָלֵק וַיַּצֵּל אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִיַּד שֹׁסֵהוּ׃ |
| [49]Now the sonsH1121 of SaulH7586 were JonathanH3129, and IshuiH3440, and MelchishuaH4444: and the namesH8034 of his twoH8147 daughtersH1323 were these; the nameH8034 of the firstbornH1067 MerabH4764, and the nameH8034 of the youngerH6996 MichalH4324: |
[49]וַיִּהְיוּ בְּנֵי שָׁאוּל יֹונָתָן וְיִשְׁוִי וּמַלְכִּי־שׁוּעַ וְשֵׁם שְׁתֵּי בְנֹתָיו שֵׁם הַבְּכִירָה מֵרַב וְשֵׁם הַקְּטַנָּה מִיכַל׃ |
| [50]And the nameH8034 of Saul'sH7586 wifeH802 was AhinoamH293, the daughterH1323 of AhimaazH290: and the nameH8034 of the captainH8269 of his hostH6635 was AbnerH74, the sonH1121 of NerH5369, Saul'sH7586 uncleH1730. |
[50]וְשֵׁם אֵשֶׁת שָׁאוּל אֲחִינֹעַם בַּת־אֲחִימָעַץ וְשֵׁם שַׂר־צְבָאֹו אֲבִינֵר בֶּן־נֵר דֹּוד שָׁאוּל׃ |
| [51]And KishH7027 was the fatherH1 of SaulH7586; and NerH5369 the fatherH1 of AbnerH74 was the sonH1121 of AbielH22. |
[51]וְקִישׁ אֲבִי־שָׁאוּל וְנֵר אֲבִי־אַבְנֵר בֶּן־אֲבִיאֵל׃ |
| [52]And there was soreH2389 warH4421 against the PhilistinesH6430 all the daysH3117 of SaulH7586: and when SaulH7586 sawH7200[H8804] any strongH1368 manH376, or any valiantH2428 manH1121, he tookH622 him unto himH8799. |
[52]וַתְּהִי הַמִּלְחָמָה חֲזָקָה עַל־פְּלִשְׁתִּים כֹּל יְמֵי שָׁאוּל וְרָאָה שָׁאוּל כָּל־אִישׁ גִּבֹּור וְכָל־בֶּן־חַיִל וַיַּאַסְפֵהוּ אֵלָיו׃ |
