[1]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] in his heartH3820, I shall now perishH5595[H8735] oneH259 dayH3117 by the handH3027 of SaulH7586: there is nothing betterH2896 for me than thatH3588 I should speedilyH4422[H8736] escapeH4422[H8735] into the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430; and SaulH7586 shall despairH2976[H8738] of me, to seekH1245[H8763] me any more in any coastH1366 of IsraelH3478: so shall I escapeH4422[H8738] out of his handH3027. |
[1]And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: is it not better for me that I save myself in the land of the Philistines, and that Saul may have no hope of me to seek me any more in all the coasts of Israel, and so escape out of his hand? |
[2]And DavidH1732 aroseH6965[H8799], and he passed overH5674[H8799] with the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 that were with him unto AchishH397, the sonH1121 of MaochH4582, kingH4428 of GathH1661. |
[2]David therefore arose, and he, and the six hundred men that were with him, went unto Achish the son of Maoch king of Gath. |
[3]And DavidH1732 dweltH3427[H8799] with AchishH397 at GathH1661, he and his menH582, every manH376 with his householdH1004, even DavidH1732 with his twoH8147 wivesH802, AhinoamH293 the JezreelitessH3159, and AbigailH26 the CarmelitessH3762, Nabal'sH5037 wifeH802. |
[3]And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he, and his men, every man with his household, David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite, and Abigail Nabal's wife the Carmelite. |
[4]And it was toldH5046[H8714] SaulH7586 that DavidH1732 was fledH1272[H8804] to GathH1661: and he soughtH1245[H8763] no more againH3254[H8804][H8675][H3254] for himH8686. |
[4]And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: so he sought no more for him. |
[5]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto AchishH397, If I have now foundH4672[H8804] graceH2580 in thine eyesH5869, let them giveH5414[H8799] me a placeH4725 in someH259 townH5892 in the countryH7704, that I may dwellH3427[H8799] there: for why should thy servantH5650 dwellH3427[H8799] in the royalH4467 city with theeH5892? |
[5]And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some other city of the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the head city of the kingdom with thee? |
[6]Then AchishH397 gaveH5414[H8799] him ZiklagH6860 that dayH3117: wherefore ZiklagH6860 pertaineth unto the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 unto this dayH3117. |
[6]Then Achish gave him Ziklag that same day: therefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day. |
[7]And the timeH4557[H3117] that DavidH1732 dweltH3427[H8804] in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 was a full yearH3117 and fourH702 monthsH2320. |
[7]And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines, was four months and certain days. |
[8]And DavidH1732 and his menH582 went upH5927[H8799], and invadedH6584[H8799] the GeshuritesH1651, and the GezritesH1511, and the AmalekitesH6003: for thoseH2007 nations were of oldH5769 the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the landH776, as thou goestH935[H8800] to ShurH7793, even unto the landH776 of EgyptH4714. |
[8]Then David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for they inhabited the land from the beginning, from the way, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt. |
[9]And DavidH1732 smoteH5221[H8689] the landH776, and left neither manH376 nor womanH802 aliveH2421[H8762], and took awayH3947[H8804] the sheepH6629, and the oxenH1241, and the assesH2543, and the camelsH1581, and the apparelH899, and returnedH7725[H8799], and cameH935[H8799] to AchishH397. |
[9]And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took sheep, and oxen, and asses, and camels, and apparel, and returned and came to Achish. |
[10]And AchishH397 saidH559[H8799], WhitherH408 have ye made a roadH6584[H8804] to dayH3117? And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799], Against the southH5045 of JudahH3063, and against the southH5045 of the JerahmeelitesH3397, and against the southH5045 of the KenitesH7017. |
[10]And Achish said, Where have ye been a roving this day? And David answered, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites. |
[11]And DavidH1732 savedH2421[H8762] neither manH376 nor womanH802 aliveH2421[H8762], to bringH935[H8687] tidings to GathH1661, sayingH559[H8800], Lest they should tellH5046[H8686] on us, sayingH559[H8800], So didH6213[H8804] DavidH1732, and so will be his mannerH4941 all the whileH3117 he dwellethH3427[H8804] in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430. |
[11]And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, and say, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while that he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines. |
[12]And AchishH397 believedH539[H8686] DavidH1732, sayingH559[H8800], He hath made his peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 utterlyH887[H8687] to abhorH887[H8689] him; therefore he shall be my servantH5650 for everH5769. |
[12]And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people of Israel utterly to abhor him: therefore he shall be my servant forever. |
