[1]And it came to pass, when DavidH1732 and his menH582 were comeH935[H8800] to ZiklagH6860 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that the AmalekitesH6003 had invadedH6584[H8804] the southH5045, and ZiklagH6860, and smittenH5221[H8686] ZiklagH6860, and burnedH8313[H8799] it with fireH784; [1]But when Dauid and his men were come to Ziklag the third day, the Amalekites had inuaded vppon the south, euen vnto Ziklag, and had smitten Ziklag, and burnt it with fyre
[2]And had taken the womenH802 captivesH7617[H8799], that were therein: they slewH4191[H8689] not anyH376, either greatH1419 or smallH6996, but carried them awayH5090[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] on their wayH1870. [2]And had taken the women that were therein prisoners, both small and great: but slue not a man, saue carryed them away, and went their wayes
[3]So DavidH1732 and his menH582 cameH935[H8799] to the cityH5892, and, behold, it was burnedH8313[H8803] with fireH784; and their wivesH802, and their sonsH1121, and their daughtersH1323, were taken captivesH7617.[H8738] [3]So Dauid and his men came to the citie, and beholde it was burnt with fyre: and their wiues, their sonnes, and their daughters were taken prisoners
[4]Then DavidH1732 and the peopleH5971 that were with him lifted upH5375[H8799] their voiceH6963 and weptH1058[H8799], until they had no more powerH3581 to weepH1058.[H8800] [4]Then Dauid & the people that were with him, lift vp their voyces and wept, vntill they could weepe no more
[5]And David'sH1732 twoH8147 wivesH802 were taken captivesH7617[H8738], AhinoamH293 the JezreelitessH3159, and AbigailH26 the wifeH802 of NabalH5037 the CarmeliteH3761. [5]And Dauids two wiues were taken prisoners also, Ahinoam the Iezrahelite, and Abigail the wyfe of Nabal the Carmelite
[6]And DavidH1732 was greatlyH3966 distressedH3334[H8799]; for the peopleH5971 spakeH559[H8804] of stoningH5619[H8800] him, because the soulH5315 of all the peopleH5971 was grievedH4843[H8804], every manH376 for his sonsH1121 and for his daughtersH1323: but DavidH1732 encouragedH2388[H8691] himself in the LORDH3068 his GodH430. [6]And Dauid was in great cumbraunce: For the people entended to stone him, because the heartes of all ye people were vexed euery man for his sonnes and for his daughters: But Dauid toke a good courage to him in the Lorde his God
[7]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] to AbiatharH54 the priestH3548, Ahimelech'sH288 sonH1121, I pray thee, bring me hitherH5066[H8685] the ephodH646. And AbiatharH54 broughtH5066[H8686] thither the ephodH646 to DavidH1732. [7]And sayde to Abiathar the priest Ahimelechs sonne: I pray thee, bring me the Ephod. And Abiathar brought the Ephod to Dauid
[8]And DavidH1732 enquiredH7592[H8799] at the LORDH3068, sayingH559[H8800], Shall I pursueH7291[H8799] afterH310 this troopH1416? shall I overtakeH5381[H8686] them? And he answeredH559[H8799] him, PursueH7291[H8798]: for thou shalt surelyH5381[H8687] overtakeH5381[H8686] them, and without failH5337[H8687] recoverH5337 allH8686. [8]And Dauid asked councel at the Lord, saying: Shall I follow after this company? shall I ouertake them? And he aunswered him: Folowe, for thou shalt suerlie ouertake them, and recouer all
[9]So DavidH1732 wentH3212[H8799], he and the sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 that were with him, and cameH935[H8799] to the brookH5158 BesorH1308, where those that were left behindH3498[H8737] stayedH5975.[H8804] [9]So Dauid and the sixe hundred men that were with him, went and came to the ryuer Befor, where a parte of them abode
[10]But DavidH1732 pursuedH7291[H8799], he and fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376: for two hundredH3967 abode behindH5975[H8799], which were so faintH6296[H8765] that they could not go overH5674[H8800] the brookH5158 BesorH1308. [10]But Dauid and foure hundred men folowed: (For two hundred abode behinde, being to weery to go ouer the ryuer Befor
[11]And they foundH4672[H8799] an EgyptianH376[H4713] in the fieldH7704, and broughtH3947[H8799] him to DavidH1732, and gaveH5414[H8799] him breadH3899, and he did eatH398[H8799]; and they made him drinkH8248[H8686] waterH4325; [11]And they founde an Egyptian in the fielde, and brought him to Dauid, and gaue him bread, & he did eate, and water to drinke
[12]And they gaveH5414[H8799] him a pieceH6400 of a cakeH1690 of figs, and twoH8147 clusters of raisinsH6778: and when he had eatenH398[H8799], his spiritH7307 came againH7725[H8799] to him: for he had eatenH398[H8804] no breadH3899, nor drunkH8354[H8804] any waterH4325, threeH7969 daysH3117 and threeH7969 nightsH3915. [12]And gaue him a fewe fygges, and two clusters of reasinges: And when he had eaten, his spirite came againe to him: For he had eaten no bread nor druncke any water in three dayes and three nightes
[13]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he saidH559[H8799], I am a young manH5288 of EgyptH4713, servantH5650 to an AmalekiteH376[H6003]; and my masterH113 leftH5800[H8799] me, because threeH7969 daysH3117 agone I fell sickH2470.[H8804] [13]And Dauid said vnto him: To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? He sayd: I am a young man of Egypt, and seruaunt to an Amalekite, and my maister left me, because three dayes agone I fell sicke
[14]We made an invasionH6584[H8804] upon the southH5045 of the CherethitesH3774, and upon the coast which belongeth to JudahH3063, and upon the southH5045 of CalebH3612; and we burnedH8313[H8804] ZiklagH6860 with fireH784. [14]We came a rouyng vpon the south of Chretus, and vpon the [coast] belonging to Iuda, and toward the south of Caleb, and we burnt Ziklag with fyre
[15]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] to him, Canst thou bring me downH3381[H8686] to this companyH1416? And he saidH559[H8799], SwearH7650[H8734] unto me by GodH430, that thou wilt neither killH4191[H8686] me, norH518 deliverH5462[H8686] me into the handsH3027 of my masterH113, and I will bring thee downH3381[H8686] to this companyH1416. [15]And Dauid saide to him: Canst thou bring me to this company? And he said: Sweare vnto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliuer me into the handes of my maister, and I will bring thee to this company
[16]And when he had brought him downH3381[H8686], behold, they were spread abroadH5203[H8803] upon allH6440 the earthH776, eatingH398[H8802] and drinkingH8354[H8802], and dancingH2287[H8802], because of all the greatH1419 spoilH7998 that they had takenH3947[H8804] out of the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430, and out of the landH776 of JudahH3063. [16]And when he had brought him thyther, beholde they laye scattered abrode vpon all the earth, eating, and drynking, & daunsing, because of al the great praye that they had carried away out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Iuda
[17]And DavidH1732 smoteH5221[H8686] them from the twilightH5399 even unto the eveningH6153 of the next dayH4283: and there escapedH4422[H8738] not a manH376 of them, save fourH702 hundredH3967 youngH5288 menH376, which rodeH7392[H8804] upon camelsH1581, and fledH5127.[H8799] [17]And Dauid layde vpon them from the twylight, euen vnto the euening of the next morowe: so that there escaped not a man of them, saue foure hundred young men which rode vpon cammels, and fled
[18]And DavidH1732 recoveredH5337[H8686] all that the AmalekitesH6002 had carried awayH3947[H8804]: and DavidH1732 rescuedH5337[H8689] his twoH8147 wivesH802. [18]And Dauid recouered all that the Amalekites had carryed away, and Dauid rescued his two wyues
[19]And there was nothing lackingH5737[H8738] to them, neitherH4480 smallH6996 nor greatH1419, neither sonsH1121 nor daughtersH1323, neither spoilH7998, nor any thing that they had takenH3947[H8804] to them: DavidH1732 recoveredH7725 allH8689. [19]So that there was nothing lacking to them, small or great, sonne or daughter, or of the spoyle of all that they had taken away, Dauid recouered them all
[20]And DavidH1732 tookH3947[H8799] all the flocksH6629 and the herdsH1241, which they draveH5090[H8804] beforeH6440 thoseH1931 other cattleH4735, and saidH559[H8799], This is David'sH1732 spoilH7998. [20]And Dauid tooke all the sheepe, and the oxen, and they draue them before his cattaile, and saide: This is Dauids pray
[21]And DavidH1732 cameH935[H8799] to the two hundredH3967 menH582, which were so faintH6296[H8765] that they could not followH3212[H8800][H310] DavidH1732, whom they had made also to abideH3427[H8686] at the brookH5158 BesorH1308: and they went forthH3318[H8799] to meetH7125[H8800] DavidH1732, and to meetH7125[H8800] the peopleH5971 that were with him: and when DavidH1732 came nearH5066[H8799] to the peopleH5971, he salutedH7592[H8799] themH7965. [21]And Dauid came to the two hundred men, that were to weery for to folowe Dauid, whom they had made also to abyde at the ryuer Befor: And they came to meete Dauid & the people that were with him: And when Dauid came to the people, he saluted them
[22]Then answeredH6030[H8799] all the wickedH7451 menH376 and men of BelialH1100, of thoseH582 that wentH1980[H8804] with DavidH1732, and saidH559[H8799], Because they wentH1980[H8804] not with us, we will not giveH5414[H8799] them ought of the spoilH7998 that we have recoveredH5337[H8689], save to every manH376 his wifeH802 and his childrenH1121, that they may lead them awayH5090[H8799], and departH3212.[H8799] [22]Then aunswered all the wicked and the vnthryftes of the men that went with Dauid, and saide: Because they went not with vs, therfore wil we geue them none of the pray that we haue recouered: But let euery man take his wife and his children, those let them carry away and departe
[23]Then saidH559[H8799] DavidH1732, Ye shall not do soH6213[H8799], my brethrenH251, with that which the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414[H8804] us, who hath preservedH8104[H8799] us, and deliveredH5414[H8799] the companyH1416 that cameH935[H8802] against us into our handH3027. [23]Then sayd Dauid: Ye shall not do so my brethren with that which the Lord hath geuen vs, who hath preserued vs, and delyuered the company that came against vs, into our handes
[24]For who will hearkenH8085[H8799] unto you in this matterH1697? but as his partH2506 is that goeth downH3381[H8802][H8675][H3381][H8717] to the battleH4421, so shall his partH2506 be that tarriethH3427[H8802] by the stuffH3627: they shall partH2505[H8799] alikeH3162. [24]For who will hearke vnto you in this matter? But as his parte is that goeth downe and fighteth, so shall his parte be that tarryeth by the stuffe: they shall parte alyke
[25]And it was so from that dayH3117 forwardH4605, that he madeH7760[H8799] it a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941 for IsraelH3478 unto this dayH3117. [25]And so from that day forward, was that made a statute and lawe in Israel, vnto this day
[26]And when DavidH1732 cameH935[H8799] to ZiklagH6860, he sentH7971[H8762] of the spoilH7998 unto the eldersH2205 of JudahH3063, even to his friendsH7453, sayingH559[H8800], Behold a presentH1293 for you of the spoilH7998 of the enemiesH341[H8802] of the LORDH3068; [26]When Dauid therefore came to Ziklag, he sent of the pray vnto the elders of Iuda and to his friendes, saying: See, there is a blessing for you of the spoyle of the enemies of the Lorde
[27]To themH834 which were in BethelH1008, and to them which were in southH5045 RamothH7418, and to them which were in JattirH3492, [27]He sent to them of Bethel, to them of south Ramoth, to them of Iathir
[28]And to them which were in AroerH6177, and to them which were in SiphmothH8224, and to them which were in EshtemoaH851, [28]To them of Aroer, to them of Sephamoth, to them of Esthema
[29]And to them which were in RachalH7403, and to them which were in the citiesH5892 of the JerahmeelitesH3397, and to them which were in the citiesH5892 of the KenitesH7017, [29]To them of Rachal, to them of the cities of Ierahmeel, to them of the cities of the Kenites
[30]And to them which were in HormahH2767, and to them which were in ChorashanH3565, and to them which were in AthachH6269, [30]To them of Horma, to them of Chorashan, to them of Athach
[31]And to them which were in HebronH2275, and to all the placesH4725 where DavidH1732 himself and his menH582 were wont to hauntH1980.[H8694] [31]To them that are in Hebron, and to all places where Dauid and his men were wont to haunt
