[1]וּפְלִשְׁתִּים לָקְחוּ אֵת אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים וַיְבִאֻהוּ מֵאֶבֶן הָעֵזֶר אַשְׁדֹּודָה׃ |
| [2]When the PhilistinesH6430 tookH3947[H8799] the arkH727 of GodH430, they broughtH935[H8686] it into the houseH1004 of DagonH1712, and setH3322[H8686] it byH681 DagonH1712. |
[2]וַיִּקְחוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים אֶת־אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים וַיָּבִיאוּ אֹתֹו בֵּית דָּגֹון וַיַּצִּיגוּ אֹתֹו אֵצֶל דָּגֹון׃ |
| [3]And when they of AshdodH796 arose earlyH7925[H8686] on the morrowH4283, behold, DagonH1712 was fallenH5307[H8802] upon his faceH6440 to the earthH776 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068. And they tookH3947[H8799] DagonH1712, and setH7725 him in his placeH4725 againH7725.[H8686] |
[3]וַיַּשְׁכִּמוּ אַשְׁדֹּודִים מִמָּחֳרָת וְהִנֵּה דָגֹון נֹפֵל לְפָנָיו אַרְצָה לִפְנֵי אֲרֹון יְהוָה וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־דָּגֹון וַיָּשִׁבוּ אֹתֹו לִמְקֹומֹו׃ |
| [4]And when they arose earlyH7925[H8686] on the morrowH4283 morningH1242, behold, DagonH1712 was fallenH5307[H8802] upon his faceH6440 to the groundH776 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068; and the headH7218 of DagonH1712 and bothH8147 the palmsH3709 of his handsH3027 were cut offH3772[H8803] upon the thresholdH4670; only the stump of DagonH1712 was leftH7604 to himH8738. |
[4]וַיַּשְׁכִּמוּ בַבֹּקֶר מִמָּחֳרָת וְהִנֵּה דָגֹון נֹפֵל לְפָנָיו אַרְצָה לִפְנֵי אֲרֹון יְהוָה וְרֹאשׁ דָּגֹון וּשְׁתֵּי כַּפֹּות יָדָיו כְּרֻתֹות אֶל־הַמִּפְתָּן רַק דָּגֹון נִשְׁאַר עָלָיו׃ |
| [5]Therefore neither the priestsH3548 of DagonH1712, nor any that comeH935[H8802] into Dagon'sH1712 houseH1004, treadH1869[H8799] on the thresholdH4670 of DagonH1712 in AshdodH795 unto this dayH3117. |
[5]עַל־כֵּן לֹא־יִדְרְכוּ כֹהֲנֵי דָגֹון וְכָל־הַבָּאִים בֵּית־דָּגֹון עַל־מִפְתַּן דָּגֹון בְּאַשְׁדֹּוד עַד הַיֹּום הַזֶּה׃ |
| [6]But the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was heavyH3513[H8799] upon them of AshdodH796, and he destroyedH8074[H8686] them, and smoteH5221[H8686] them with emerodsH2914[H8675][H6076], even AshdodH795 and the coasts thereofH1366. |
[6]וַתִּכְבַּד יַד־יְהוָה אֶל־הָאַשְׁדֹּודִים וַיְשִׁםֵּם וַיַּךְ אֹתָם בָּעֳפָלִים [Q: בַּטְּחֹרִים] אֶת־אַשְׁדֹּוד וְאֶת־גְּבוּלֶיהָ׃ |
| [7]And when the menH582 of AshdodH795 sawH7200[H8799] that it was so, they saidH559[H8804], The arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 shall not abideH3427[H8799] with us: for his handH3027 is soreH7185[H8804] upon us, and upon DagonH1712 our godH430. |
[7]וַיִּרְאוּ אַנְשֵׁי־אַשְׁדֹּוד כִּי־כֵן וְאָמְרוּ לֹא־יֵשֵׁב אֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמָּנוּ כִּי־קָשְׁתָה יָדֹו עָלֵינוּ וְעַל דָּגֹון אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃ |
| [8]They sentH7971[H8799] therefore and gatheredH622[H8799] all the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 unto them, and saidH559[H8799], What shall we doH6213[H8799] with the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478? And they answeredH559[H8799], Let the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 be carried aboutH5437[H8735] unto GathH1661. And they carriedH5437 the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 aboutH5437 thitherH8686. |
[8]וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ וַיַּאַסְפוּ אֶת־כָּל־סַרְנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים אֲלֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ מַה־נַּעֲשֶׂה לַאֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֹּאמְרוּ גַּת יִסֹּב אֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּסֵּבּוּ אֶת־אֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
| [9]And it was so, that, afterH310 they had carried it aboutH5437[H8689], the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was against the cityH5892 with a veryH3966 greatH1419 destructionH4103: and he smoteH5221[H8686] the menH582 of the cityH5892, both smallH6996 and greatH1419, and they had emerodsH2914[H8675][H6076] in their secret partsH8368.[H8735] |
[9]וַיְהִי אַחֲרֵי הֵסַבּוּ אֹתֹו וַתְּהִי יַד־יְהוָה בָּעִיר מְהוּמָה גְּדֹולָה מְאֹד וַיַּךְ אֶת־אַנְשֵׁי הָעִיר מִקָּטֹן וְעַד־גָּדֹול וַיִּשָּׂתְרוּ לָהֶם עֳפָלִים [Q: טְחֹרִים]׃ |
| [10]Therefore they sentH7971[H8762] the arkH727 of GodH430 to EkronH6138. And it came to pass, as the arkH727 of GodH430 cameH935[H8800] to EkronH6138, that the EkronitesH6139 cried outH2199[H8799], sayingH559[H8800], They have brought aboutH5437[H8689] the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 to us, to slayH4191[H8687] us and our peopleH5971. |
[10]וַיְשַׁלְּחוּ אֶת־אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים עֶקְרֹון וַיְהִי כְּבֹוא אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים עֶקְרֹון וַיִּזְעֲקוּ הָעֶקְרֹנִים לֵאמֹר הֵסַבּוּ אֵלַי אֶת־אֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לַהֲמִיתֵנִי וְאֶת־עַמִּי׃ |
| [11]So they sentH7971[H8799] and gathered togetherH622[H8799] all the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430, and saidH559[H8799], Send awayH7971[H8761] the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and let it go againH7725[H8799] to his own placeH4725, that it slayH4191[H8686] us not, and our peopleH5971: for there was a deadlyH4194 destructionH4103 throughout all the cityH5892; the handH3027 of GodH430 was veryH3966 heavyH3513 thereH8804. |
[11]וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ וַיַּאַסְפוּ אֶת־כָּל־סַרְנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיֹּאמְרוּ שַׁלְּחוּ אֶת־אֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיָשֹׁב לִמְקֹמֹו וְלֹא־יָמִית אֹתִי וְאֶת־עַמִּי כִּי־הָיְתָה מְהוּמַת־מָוֶת בְּכָל־הָעִיר כָּבְדָה מְאֹד יַד הָאֱלֹהִים שָׁם׃ |
| [12]And the menH582 that diedH4191[H8804] not were smittenH5221[H8717] with the emerodsH2914[H8675][H6076]: and the cryH7775 of the cityH5892 went upH5927[H8799] to heavenH8064. |
[12]וְהָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר לֹא־מֵתוּ הֻכּוּ בָּעֳפָלִים [Q: בַּטְּחֹרִים] וַתַּעַל שַׁוְעַת הָעִיר הַשָּׁמָיִם׃ |
