[1]παυλος αποστολος χριστου ιησου κατ επιταγην θεου σωτηρος ημων και χριστου ιησου της ελπιδος ημων [1]PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus, our hope;
[2]τιμοθεω γνησιω τεκνω εν πιστει χαρις ελεος ειρηνη απο θεου πατρος και χριστου ιησου του κυριου ημων [2]To Ti-mo'the-us, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God, our Father, and Christ Jesus our LORD.
[3]καθως παρεκαλεσα σε προσμειναι εν εφεσω πορευομενος εις μακεδονιαν ινα παραγγειλης τισιν μη ετεροδιδασκαλειν [3]When I went to Mac-e-do'ni-a, I besought you to remain at Eph'e-sus, so that you might charge certain ones not to teach diverse doctrines,
[4]μηδε προσεχειν μυθοις και γενεαλογιαις απεραντοις αιτινες εκζητησεις παρεχουσιν μαλλον η οικονομιαν θεου την εν πιστει [4]And not to give heed to fables and stories of endless genealogies, which cause dispute, rather than build up the faith of God.
[5]το δε τελος της παραγγελιας εστιν αγαπη εκ καθαρας καρδιας και συνειδησεως αγαθης και πιστεως ανυποκριτου [5]Now the fulfillment of the commandment is love out of a pure heart and of a good conscience and of a true faith:
[6]ων τινες αστοχησαντες εξετραπησαν εις ματαιολογιαν [6]From which some have gone astray and have turned aside to foolish words;
[7]θελοντες ειναι νομοδιδασκαλοι μη νοουντες μητε α λεγουσιν μητε περι τινων διαβεβαιουνται [7]Desiring to be teachers of the law; not understanding what they speak, nor even whereof they argue.
[8]οιδαμεν δε οτι καλος ο νομος εαν τις αυτω νομιμως χρηται [8]But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
[9]ειδως τουτο οτι δικαιω νομος ου κειται ανομοις δε και ανυποτακτοις ασεβεσιν και αμαρτωλοις ανοσιοις και βεβηλοις πατρολωαις και μητρολωαις ανδροφονοις [9]Knowing this, that the law is not made for the righteous, but for the wicked and rebellious, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for the profane and unholy, for those who abuse their fathers and ill-treat their mothers, for murderers,
[10]πορνοις αρσενοκοιταις ανδραποδισταις ψευσταις επιορκοις και ει τι ετερον τη υγιαινουση διδασκαλια αντικειται [10]For whoremongers, for those who defile themselves with mankind, for kidnappers of well-born sons, for liars, for perjurers, and for whatever is contrary to sound doctrine;
[11]κατα το ευαγγελιον της δοξης του μακαριου θεου ο επιστευθην εγω [11]According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was entrusted to me.
[12]χαριν εχω τω ενδυναμωσαντι με χριστω ιησου τω κυριω ημων οτι πιστον με ηγησατο θεμενος εις διακονιαν [12]And I thank our LORD Jesus Christ who has given me strength, and has counted me trustworthy, and has appointed me to his ministry;
[13]το προτερον οντα βλασφημον και διωκτην και υβριστην αλλα ηλεηθην οτι αγνοων εποιησα εν απιστια [13]Who was before a blasphemer and a persecutor and a reviler; but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
[14]υπερεπλεονασεν δε η χαρις του κυριου ημων μετα πιστεως και αγαπης της εν χριστω ιησου [14]Now the grace of our LORD has become abundant in me, as well as my faith and love in Jesus Christ.
[15]πιστος ο λογος και πασης αποδοχης αξιος οτι χριστος ιησους ηλθεν εις τον κοσμον αμαρτωλους σωσαι ων πρωτος ειμι εγω [15]This is a trustworthy saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
[16]αλλα δια τουτο ηλεηθην ινα εν εμοι πρωτω ενδειξηται χριστος ιησους την απασαν μακροθυμιαν προς υποτυπωσιν των μελλοντων πιστευειν επ αυτω εις ζωην αιωνιον [16]Howbeit for this cause he had mercy on me, that in me first Jesus Christ may shew forth all patience, for a pattern to those who should hereafter believe in him to life everlasting.
[17]τω δε βασιλει των αιωνων αφθαρτω αορατω μονω θεω τιμη και δοξα εις τους αιωνας των αιωνων αμην HEB [17]Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
[18]ταυτην την παραγγελιαν παρατιθεμαι σοι τεκνον τιμοθεε κατα τας προαγουσας επι σε προφητειας ινα στρατευη εν αυταις την καλην στρατειαν [18]This charge I commit to you, my son Timo'the- us, in accordance with the prophecies given before about you, that you might fight a good fight;
[19]εχων πιστιν και αγαθην συνειδησιν ην τινες απωσαμενοι περι την πιστιν εναυαγησαν [19]In faith and good conscience; those who have rejected this charge have lost their faith:
[20]ων εστιν υμεναιος και αλεξανδρος ους παρεδωκα τω σατανα ινα παιδευθωσιν μη βλασφημειν [20]Namely Hy-me-nae'us and Al-ex-an-der, whom I have delivered to Satan, to be disciplined so that they may no longer blaspheme.
