| [1]A son of twenty years [is] Ahaz in his reigning, and sixteen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and he hath not done that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, as David his father, |

| [2]and walketh in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also, molten images hath made for Baalim, |
[2]For he walked inH3212[H8799] the waysH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, and madeH6213[H8804] also molten imagesH4541 for BaalimH1168. |
| [3]and himself hath made perfume in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burneth his sons with fire according to the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel, |
[3]Moreover he burnt incenseH6999[H8689] in the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of HinnomH2011, and burntH1197[H8686] his childrenH1121 in the fireH784, after the abominationsH8441 of the heathenH1471 whom the LORDH3068 had cast outH3423[H8689] beforeH6440 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478. |
| [4]and sacrificeth and maketh perfume in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree. |
[4]He sacrificedH2076[H8762] also and burnt incenseH6999[H8762] in the high placesH1116, and on the hillsH1389, and under every greenH7488 treeH6086. |
| [5]And Jehovah his God giveth him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they smite him, and take captive from him a great captivity, and bring [them] in to Damascus, and also into the hand of the king of Israel he hath been given, and he smiteth him -- a great smiting. |
[5]Wherefore the LORDH3068 his GodH430 deliveredH5414[H8799] him into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758; and they smoteH5221[H8686] him, and carried awayH7617[H8799] a great multitudeH1419 of them captivesH7633, and broughtH935[H8686] them to DamascusH1834. And he was also deliveredH5414[H8737] into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, who smoteH5221[H8686] him with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. |
| [6]And Pekah son of Remaliah slayeth in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole [are] sons of valour), because of their forsaking Jehovah, God of their fathers. |
[6]For PekahH6492 the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425 slewH2026[H8799] in JudahH3063 an hundredH3967 and twentyH6242 thousandH505 in oneH259 dayH3117, which were all valiantH2428 menH1121; because they had forsakenH5800[H8800] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of their fathersH1. |
| [7]And Zichri, a mighty one of Ephraim, slayeth Maaseiah son of the king, and Azrikam leader of the house, and Elkanah second to the king. |

| [8]And the sons of Israel take captive of their brethren, two hundred thousand, wives, sons and daughters, and also much spoil they have seized from them, and they bring in the spoil to Samaria. |

| [9]And there hath been there a prophet of Jehovah (Oded [is] his name), and he goeth out before the host that hath come in to Samaria, and saith to them, `Lo, in the fury of Jehovah God of your fathers against Judah, He hath given them into your hand, and ye slay among them in rage -- unto the heavens it hath come; |
[9]But a prophetH5030 of the LORDH3068 was there, whose nameH8034 was OdedH5752: and he went outH3318[H8799] beforeH6440 the hostH6635 that cameH935[H8802] to SamariaH8111, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, Behold, because the LORDH3068 GodH430 of your fathersH1 was wrothH2534 with JudahH3063, he hath deliveredH5414[H8804] them into your handH3027, and ye have slainH2026[H8799] them in a rageH2197 that reacheth upH5060[H8689] unto heavenH8064. |
| [10]and now, sons of Judah and Jerusalem ye are saying to subdue for men-servants and for maid-servants to you; but are there not with you causes of guilt before Jehovah your God? |
[10]And now ye purposeH559[H8802] to keep underH3533[H8800] the childrenH1121 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 for bondmenH5650 and bondwomenH8198 unto you: but are there not with you, evenH7535 with you, sinsH819 against the LORDH3068 your GodH430? |
| [11]and now, hear me, and send back the captives whom ye have taken captive of your brethren, for the heat of the anger of Jehovah [is] upon you.' |
[11]Now hearH8085[H8798] me therefore, and deliverH7725[H8685] the captivesH7633 again, which ye have taken captiveH7617[H8804] of your brethrenH251: for the fierceH2740 wrathH639 of the LORD is upon youH3068. |
| [12]And certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host, |

| [13]and say to them, `Ye do not bring in the captives hither, for, to guilt against Jehovah on us, ye are saying to add unto our sin and unto our guilt? for abundant [is] the guilt we have, and the fierceness of anger on Israel.' |
[13]And saidH559[H8799] unto them, Ye shall not bring inH935[H8686] the captivesH7633 hither: for whereas we have offendedH819 against the LORDH3068 already, ye intendH559[H8802] to addH3254[H8687] more to our sinsH2403 and to our trespassH819: for our trespassH819 is greatH7227, and there is fierceH2740 wrathH639 against IsraelH3478. |
| [14]And the armed men leave the captives and the prey before the heads and all the assembly; |

| [15]and the men who have been expressed by name rise and take hold on the captives, and all their naked ones they have clothed from the spoil, yea, they clothe them, and shoe them, and cause them to eat and drink, and anoint them, and lead them on asses, even every feeble one, and bring them in to Jericho, the city of palms, near their brethren, and turn back to Samaria. |

| [16]At that time hath king Ahaz sent unto the king of Asshur to give help to him; |

| [17]and again the Edomites have come, and smite in Judah, and take captive a captivity. |
[17]For again the EdomitesH130 had comeH935[H8804] and smittenH5221[H8686] JudahH3063, and carried awayH7617[H8799] captivesH7628. |
| [18]And the Philistines have rushed against the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and capture Beth-Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho and its villages, and Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages, and dwell there, |
[18]The PhilistinesH6430 also had invadedH6584[H8804] the citiesH5892 of the low countryH8219, and of the southH5045 of JudahH3063, and had takenH3920[H8799] BethshemeshH1053, and AjalonH357, and GederothH1450, and ShochoH7755 with the villagesH1323 thereof, and TimnahH8553 with the villagesH1323 thereof, GimzoH1579 also and the villagesH1323 thereof: and they dweltH3427 thereH8799. |
| [19]for Jehovah hath humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he made free with Judah, even to commit a trespass against Jehovah. |
[19]For the LORDH3068 broughtH3665 JudahH3063 lowH3665[H8689] because of AhazH271 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478; for he madeH6544 JudahH3063 nakedH6544[H8689], and transgressedH4603[H8800] soreH4604 against the LORDH3068. |
| [20]And Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur cometh in unto him, and doth distress him, and hath not strengthened him, |
[20]And TilgathpilneserH8407 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH935[H8799] unto him, and distressedH6696[H8799] him, but strengthenedH2388 him notH8804. |
| [21]though Ahaz hath taken a portion [out] of the house of Jehovah, and [out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and giveth to the king of Asshur, yet it is no help to him. |
[21]For AhazH271 took away a portionH2505[H8804] out of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and out of the houseH1004 of the kingH4428, and of the princesH8269, and gaveH5414[H8799] it unto the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804: but he helped him notH5833. |
| [22]And in the time of his distress -- he addeth to trespass against Jehovah, (this king Ahaz), |
[22]And in the timeH6256 of his distressH6887[H8687] did he trespassH4603[H8800] yet moreH3254[H8686] against the LORDH3068: this is that kingH4428 AhazH271. |
| [23]and he sacrificeth to the gods of Damascus -- those smiting him, and saith, `Because the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, to them I sacrifice, and they help me,' and they have been to him to cause him to stumble, and to all Israel. |
[23]For he sacrificedH2076[H8799] unto the godsH430 of DamascusH1834, which smoteH5221[H8688] him: and he saidH559[H8799], Because the godsH430 of the kingsH4428 of SyriaH758 helpH5826[H8688] them, therefore will I sacrificeH2076[H8762] to them, that they may helpH5826[H8799] me. But they were the ruinH3782[H8687] of him, and of all IsraelH3478. |
| [24]And Ahaz gathereth the vessels of the house of God, and cutteth in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shutteth the doors of the house of Jehovah, and maketh to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem. |
[24]And AhazH271 gathered togetherH622[H8799] the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of GodH430, and cut in piecesH7112[H8762] the vesselsH3627 of the houseH1004 of GodH430, and shut upH5462[H8799] the doorsH1817 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and he madeH6213[H8799] him altarsH4196 in every cornerH6438 of JerusalemH3389. |
| [25]And in every city and city of Judah he hath made high places to make perfume to other gods, and provoketh Jehovah, God of his fathers. |
[25]And in every several cityH5892 of JudahH3063 he madeH6213[H8804] high placesH1116 to burn incenseH6999[H8763] unto otherH312 godsH430, and provoked to angerH3707[H8686] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of his fathersH1. |
| [26]And the rest of his matters, and all his ways, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. |

| [27]And Ahaz lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city, in Jerusalem, but have not brought him in to the graves of the kings of Israel, and reign doth Hezekiah his son in his stead. |
[27]And AhazH271 sleptH7901[H8799] with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912[H8799] him in the cityH5892, even in JerusalemH3389: but they broughtH935[H8689] him not into the sepulchresH6913 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478: and HezekiahH3169 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8799. |
