Peshitta NT (Etheridge, 1849)
PesNT(Eth)
[1]I decided but this in myself that not again in sorrow I would come to you [1]But I have determined this in myself, that I will not with sorrow again come to you.
[2]If I for sadden I you who is? to gladden me but the one whom I sadden him [2]For if I grieve you, who shall refresh me, but he whom I had grieved?
[3]And what I wrote to you is this lest when I come would sadden me those who it fitting was for them that those would gladden me do trust I but in all of you that my joy of you all is [3]And I have written to you this very, [epistle] lest when I come they grieve me, they who ought to refresh me. But I confide in you, that my joy is that of all of you.
[4]And from suffering great and from anguish of the heart I wrote to you these things in tears many not so that you would grieve you but so that you would know the love abundant that is with me for you [4]And from great affliction and anxiety of heart I wrote those things to you with many tears, not that you might grieve, but [also] that you might know the abundant love I have towards you.
[5]If but a man saddens me not it has been me he saddens but in a fashion small you all lest should weigh the statement upon you [5]But if any one hath caused grief, he hath not grieved me [only], but a part of you all: that the word may not weigh upon [the whole of] you.
[6]Is sufficient for him but this rebuke that is from the many [6]But sufficient for him was this chastisement, which was from many.
[7]And now on the contrary it is necessary to forgive him and to comfort him lest in grief excessive would be swallowed up he who one such is [7]And now on the other hand it behoves you to forgive him and console him, lest he who is such an one be swallowed up of excessive grief.
[8]Because of this beseech I of you to confirm to him your love [8]Therefore I entreat of you to confirm to him your love.
[9]Because of this for I have written also to know by a test if in everything obedient you are [9]On this account also I have written, to ascertain by experiment whether in every thing you will obey me.
[10]The one whom you but forgiving are also I am also I for anything that I forgave to him I forgave for your sakes that I forgave in the presence of The Messiah [10]But to whom you forgive, I also. For I, too, what I have forgiven, have on your account forgiven in the presence of the Meshiha:
[11]Lest would overtake us Satan we know for his devices [11]Lest Satana get the advantage of you; for we know his devices.
[12]When I came but to Troas with the Gospel of The Messiah and was opened to me a door by the Lord [12]WHEN, in preaching the gospel of the Meshiha, I had come to Troas, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,
[13]Not was to me rest in my spirit for not I found Titus my brother but I left them and I went out myself to Maqedonia [13]I had no rest in my spirit because I found not Titos my brother. But leaving them, I went forth to Makedunia.
[14]Thank but to Alaha Who at all times a spectacle He makes us in The Messiah and reveals by us the fragrance of His knowledge in every place [14]But thanks unto Aloha, who in all time maketh us a triumph in the Meshiha, and maketh manifest by us the perfume of his knowledge in every place.
[15]The fragrance we are for sweet in The Messiah to Alaha among those who have life and among those who perish [15]For we are a fragrant perfume in the Meshiha unto Aloha in those who are saved, and in those who perish.
[16]To the latter the stench of death for death and to the former a fragrance of The Life for life and for these things who? will be worthy [16]To these as a perfume of death unto death, and to those as a perfume of life unto life. And unto these who is equal?
[17]Not we have been for as others who blend the words of Alaha but as that in the truth and according to that from Alaha before Alaha in The Messiah we speak [17]For we are not as the rest who commix the word of Aloha; but as in truth, and as from Aloha, before Aloha in the Meshiha do we speak.
