[1]Then ElishaH477 saidH559[H8799], HearH8085[H8798] ye the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068; Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, To morrowH4279 about this timeH6256 shall a measureH5429 of fine flourH5560 be sold for a shekelH8255, and two measuresH5429 of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, in the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111. |
[1]THEN Elisha said, Hear the word of the LORD; thus says the LORD: Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria. |
[2]Then a lordH7991 on whose handH3027 the kingH4428 leanedH8172[H8737] answeredH6030[H8799] the manH376 of GodH430, and saidH559[H8799], Behold, if the LORDH3068 would makeH6213[H8802] windowsH699 in heavenH8064, might this thingH1697 be? And he saidH559[H8799], Behold, thou shalt seeH7200[H8802] it with thine eyesH5869, but shalt not eatH398 thereofH8799. |
[2]Then the king's aide answered and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And Elisha said to him, Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it |
[3]And there were fourH702 leprousH6879[H8794] menH582 at the entering inH6607 of the gateH8179: and they saidH559[H8799] oneH376 to anotherH7453, Why sitH3427[H8802] we here until we dieH4191?[H8804] |
[3]Now there were four leprous men sitting at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, Why do we sit here until we die? |
[4]If we sayH559[H8804], We will enterH935[H8799] into the cityH5892, then the famineH7458 is in the cityH5892, and we shall dieH4191[H8804] there: and if we sit stillH3427[H8804] here, we dieH4191[H8804] also. Now therefore comeH3212[H8798], and let us fallH5307[H8799] unto the hostH4264 of the SyriansH758: if they save us aliveH2421[H8762], we shall liveH2421[H8799]; and if they killH4191[H8686] us, we shall but dieH4191.[H8804] |
[4]If we say, We will enter into the city, the famine is severe in the city, and we shall die there; and if we still sit here, we die also. Now therefore come and let us go to the camp of Aram; if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they put us to death, we shall but die. |
[5]And they rose upH6965[H8799] in the twilightH5399, to goH935[H8800] unto the campH4264 of the SyriansH758: and when they were comeH935[H8799] to the uttermost partH7097 of the campH4264 of SyriaH758, behold, there was no man thereH376. |
[5]So they rose up early in the twilight to go to the camp of Aram; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp, behold, there was no man there; |
[6]For the LordH136 had made the hostH4264 of the SyriansH758 to hearH8085[H8689] a noiseH6963 of chariotsH7393, and a noiseH6963 of horsesH5483, even the noiseH6963 of a greatH1419 hostH2428: and they saidH559[H8799] oneH376 to anotherH251, Lo, the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 hath hiredH7936[H8804] against us the kingsH4428 of the HittitesH2850, and the kingsH4428 of the EgyptiansH4714, to comeH935 upon usH8800. |
[6]For the LORD had made the army of Aram hear the noise of horses and the noise of chariots and the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the king of the Egyptians and the king of the Hittites to come upon us. |
[7]Wherefore they aroseH6965[H8799] and fledH5127[H8799] in the twilightH5399, and leftH5800[H8799] their tentsH168, and their horsesH5483, and their assesH2543, even the campH4264 as it was, and fledH5127[H8799] for their lifeH5315. |
[7]Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their asses, even their camp as it was, and they fled for their lives. |
[8]And when these lepersH6879[H8794] cameH935[H8799] to the uttermost partH7097 of the campH4264, they wentH935[H8799] into oneH259 tentH168, and did eatH398[H8799] and drinkH8354[H8799], and carriedH5375[H8799] thence silverH3701, and goldH2091, and raimentH899, and wentH3212[H8799] and hidH2934[H8686] it; and came againH7725[H8799], and enteredH935[H8799] into anotherH312 tentH168, and carriedH5375[H8799] thence also, and wentH3212[H8799] and hidH2934 itH8686. |
[8]And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank and took from there silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid it; then they came again and entered into another tent and carried booty from there also and went and hid it. |
[9]Then they saidH559[H8799] oneH376 to anotherH7453, We doH6213[H8802] not well: this dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of good tidingsH1309, and we hold our peaceH2814[H8688]: if we tarryH2442[H8765] till the morningH1242 lightH216, some mischiefH5771 will comeH4672[H8804] upon us: now therefore comeH3212[H8798], that we may goH935[H8799] and tellH5046[H8686] the king'sH4428 householdH1004. |
[9]Then they said one to another, We are not doing right; this day is a day of good tidings, and how long shall we remain silent? If we wait until the morning light, some mischief will come upon us; now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household. |
[10]So they cameH935[H8799] and calledH7121[H8799] unto the porterH7778 of the cityH5892: and they toldH5046[H8686] them, sayingH559[H8800], We cameH935[H8804] to the campH4264 of the SyriansH758, and, behold, there was no manH376 there, neither voiceH6963 of manH120, but horsesH5483 tiedH631[H8803], and assesH2543 tiedH631[H8803], and the tents as they wereH168. |
[10]So they came and called to the doorkeepers of the city; and they told them, saying, We went to the camp of Aram, and behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied and asses tied and tents as they were. |
[11]And he calledH7121[H8799] the portersH7778; and they toldH5046[H8686] it to the king'sH4428 houseH1004 withinH6441. |
[11]And the doorkeepers called out and told it to the king's household within |
[12]And the kingH4428 aroseH6965[H8799] in the nightH3915, and saidH559[H8799] unto his servantsH5650, I will now shewH5046[H8686] you what the SyriansH758 have doneH6213[H8804] to us. They knowH3045[H8804] that we be hungryH7457; therefore are they gone outH3318[H8799] of the campH4264 to hideH2247[H8736] themselves in the fieldH7704, sayingH559[H8800], When they come outH3318[H8799] of the cityH5892, we shall catchH8610[H8799] them aliveH2416, and getH935[H8799] into the cityH5892. |
[12]And the king arose in the night and said to his servants, I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall capture them alive and then get into the city. |
[13]And oneH259 of his servantsH5650 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], Let some takeH3947[H8799], I pray thee, fiveH2568 of the horsesH5483 that remainH7604[H8737], which are leftH7604[H8738] in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 that are leftH7604[H8738] in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitudeH1995 of the IsraelitesH3478 that are consumedH8552[H8804]:) and let us sendH7971[H8799] and seeH7200.[H8799] |
[13]And one of his servants answered and said, Let some horsemen take five of the horses that remain; if they are captured, let them be considered a loss like all the army of Israel that has perished; therefore let us send and see. |
[14]They tookH3947[H8799] therefore twoH8147 chariotH7393 horsesH5483; and the kingH4428 sentH7971[H8799] afterH310 the hostH4264 of the SyriansH758, sayingH559[H8800], GoH3212[H8798] and seeH7200.[H8798] |
[14]So two couples of horsemen mounted, and the king sent them after the army of Aram, saying, Go and see. |
[15]And they wentH3212[H8799] afterH310 them unto JordanH3383: and, lo, all the wayH1870 was fullH4392 of garmentsH899 and vesselsH3627, which the SyriansH758 had cast awayH7993[H8689] in their hasteH2648[H8800]. And the messengersH4397 returnedH7725[H8799], and toldH5046[H8686] the kingH4428. |
[15]And they went after them as far as the Jordan; and, lo, all the road was full of garments and vessels which the Arameans had left behind in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king. |
[16]And the peopleH5971 went outH3318[H8799], and spoiledH962[H8799] the tentsH4264 of the SyriansH758. So a measureH5429 of fine flourH5560 was sold for a shekelH8255, and two measuresH5429 of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. |
[16]And the people went out and plundered the camp of Aram. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD. |
[17]And the kingH4428 appointedH6485[H8689] the lordH7991 on whose handH3027 he leanedH8172[H8737] to have the charge of the gateH8179: and the peopleH5971 trodeH7429[H8799] upon him in the gateH8179, and he diedH4191[H8799], as the manH376 of GodH430 had saidH1696[H8765], who spakeH1696[H8765] when the kingH4428 came downH3381 to himH8800. |
[17]And the king placed his aide in charge of the gate; and the people trod upon him at the gate and he died, as the prophet of God had said when he came down as a messenger to him. |
[18]And it came to pass as the manH376 of GodH430 had spokenH1696[H8763] to the kingH4428, sayingH559[H8800], Two measuresH5429 of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, and a measureH5429 of fine flourH5560 for a shekelH8255, shall be to morrowH4279 about this timeH6256 in the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111: |
[18]And it came to pass as the prophet of God had foretold to the king, saying, A measure of fine flour for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel shall be sold tomorrow at this time in the gate of Samaria. |
[19]And that lordH7991 answeredH6030[H8799] the manH376 of GodH430, and saidH559[H8799], Now, behold, if the LORDH3068 should makeH6213[H8802] windowsH699 in heavenH8064, might such a thingH1697 be? And he saidH559[H8799], Behold, thou shalt seeH7200[H8802] it with thine eyesH5869, but shalt not eatH398 thereofH8799. |
[19]But that mighty man had answered the prophet of God and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And the prophet had said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it. |
[20]And so it fell out unto him: for the peopleH5971 trodeH7429[H8799] upon him in the gateH8179, and he diedH4191.[H8799] |
[20]And so it happened to him; for the people trod upon him in the gate and he died |
