[1]AND David numbered the people who were with him, and set over them commanders of thousands and captains of hundreds. |

[2]And David placed a third part of the people under the command of Joab, and a third part under the command of Abishai the son of Zoriah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the command of Ittai the Gittite. |

[3]And the king said to the people, If we surely should flee, the enemy will not care about us; now therefore ten thousand men are enough for us; for it is better for us to receive help from the cities. |

[4]And the servants of David said to him, We will go forth quickly to fight against them. And the king said to them, Whatever seems good to you, do it. Then the king stood by the side of the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands. |

[5]And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Capture for me the young man Absalom alive. And all the people heard when the king gave orders to all commanders concerning Absalom. |
[6]καίC ἐκἔρχομαιVBI-AAI3S πᾶςA3-NSM ὁRA-NSM λαόςN2-NSM εἰςP ὁRA-ASM δρυμόςN2-ASM ἐκP ἐναντίοςA1A-GSF *ἰσραήλN--GSM καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S ὁRA-NSM πόλεμοςN2-NSM ἐνP ὁRA-DSM δρυμόςN2-DSM *ἐφράιμN--GS |
[6]So the people went out into the field against Israel; |
[7]καίC πταίωVAI-AAI3S ἐκεῖD ὁRA-NSM λαόςN2-NSM *ἰσραήλN--GSM ἐνώπιονP ὁRA-GPM παῖςN3D-GPM *δαυίδN--GSM καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S ὁRA-NSF θραῦσιςN3I-NSF μέγαςA1-NSF ἐνP ὁRA-DSF ἡμέραN1A-DSF ἐκεῖνοςRD-DSF εἴκοσιM χιλίαςN3D-NPF ἀνήρN3-GPM |
[7]And there was a battle, and the people of Israel were defeated there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter on that day of twenty thousand men. |

[8]For there was a great battle which spread over the face of the country; and the wild beasts of the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured |

[9]And it happened that Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom was riding upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and Absalom's head caught fast in the great oak, and he was hanging between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away. |

[10]And a certain man saw it and told Joab and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak. |
[11]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S *ιωαβN--NSM ὁRA-DSM ἀνήρN3-DSM ὁRA-DSM ἀποἀγγέλλωV1-PAPDSM καίC ἰδούI ὁράωVX-XAI2S τίςRI-NSN ὅτιC οὐD πατάσσωVAI-AAI2S αὐτόςRD-ASM εἰςP ὁRA-ASF γῆN1-ASF καίC ἐγώRP-NS ἄνX δίδωμιVX-XAN σύRP-DS δέκαM ἀργύριονN2N-GSN καίC παραζώνηN1-ASF εἷςA1A-ASF |
[11]And Joab said to the man who told him, When you saw him, why then did you not smite him there and throw him to the ground? And I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a garment. |

[12]And the man said to Joab, Though you should count to me a thousand shekels of silver, I would not put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Be careful not to harm the young man Absalom for my sake. |
[13]μήD ποιέωVA-AAN ἐνP ὁRA-DSF ψυχήN1-DSF αὐτόςRD-GSM ἄδικοςA1B-ASN καίC πᾶςA3-NSM ὁRA-NSM λόγοςN2-NSM οὐD λανθάνωVF-FMI3S ἀπόP ὁRA-GSM βασιλεύςN3V-GSM καίC σύRP-NS ἵστημιVF-FMI2S ἐκP ἐναντίοςA1A-GSF |
[13]And if I should have done it, then I would have been guilty; and nothing would have been hidden from the king, and you yourself would have stood against me. |
[14]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S *ιωαβN--NSM οὗτοςRD-ASN ἐγώRP-NS ἄρχωVF-FMI1S οὐD οὕτωςD μένωVF2-FAI1S ἐνώπιοςP σύRP-GS καίC λαμβάνωVBI-AAI3S *ιωαβN--NSM τρεῖςA3-ASN βέλοςN3E-APN ἐνP ὁRA-DSF χείρN3-DSF αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC ἐνπήγνυμιVAI-AAI3S αὐτόςRD-APN ἐνP ὁRA-DSF καρδίαN1A-DSF *αβεσσαλωμN--GSM ἔτιD αὐτόςRD-GSM ζάωV3-PAPGSM ἐνP ὁRA-DSF καρδίαN1A-DSF ὁRA-GSF δρῦςN3U-GSF |
[14]Then Joab said to him, That is not true, I will do it now myself. Then Joab took three darts in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was still alive and hanging from the oak. |
[15]καίC κυκλόωVAI-AAI3P δέκαM παιδάριονN2N-NPN αἴρωV1-PAPNPN ὁRA-APN σκεῦοςN3E-APN *ιωαβN--GSM καίC πατάσσωVAI-AAI3P ὁRA-ASM *αβεσσαλωμN--ASM καίC θανατόωVAI-AAI3P αὐτόςRD-ASM |
[15]And ten young men who bore Joab's armor circled about and smote Absalom and slew him. |
[16]καίC σαλπίζωVAI-AAI3S *ιωαβN--NSM ἐνP κερατίνηN1-DSF καίC ἀποστρέφωVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-NSM λαόςN2-NSM ὁRA-GSN μήD διώκωV1-PAN ὀπίσωD *ἰσραήλN--GSM ὅτιC φείδομαιV1I-IMI3S *ιωαβN--NSM ὁRA-GSM λαόςN2-GSM |
[16]And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel; for Joab had held back the people. |
[17]καίC λαμβάνωVBI-AAI3S ὁRA-ASM *αβεσσαλωμN--ASM καίC ῥίπτωVAI-AAI3S αὐτόςRD-ASM εἰςP χάσμαN3M-ASN μέγαςA1P-ASN ἐνP ὁRA-DSM δρυμόςN2-DSM εἰςP ὁRA-ASM βόθυνοςN2-ASM ὁRA-ASM μέγαςA1P-ASM καίC στηλόωVAI-AAI3S ἐπίP αὐτόςRD-ASM σωρόςN2-ASM λίθοςN2-GPM μέγαςA1P-ASM σφόδραD καίC πᾶςA3-NSM *ἰσραήλN--NSM φεύγωVBI-AAI3S ἀνήρN3-NSM εἰςP ὁRA-ASN σκήνωμαN3M-ASN αὐτόςRD-GSM |
[17]And they took Absalom's body and cast it into a great pit, and raised over it a great heap of large stones; and all Israel fled every man to his tent. |
[18]καίC *αβεσσαλωμN--NSM ἔτιD ζάωV3-PAPNSM καίC ἵστημιVAI-AAI3S ἑαυτοῦRD-DSM ὁRA-ASF στήληN1-ASF ἐνP ὅςRR-DSF λαμβάνωVVI-API3S καίC στηλόωVAI-AAI3S αὐτόςRD-ASF λαμβάνωVB-AAN ὁRA-ASF στήληN1-ASF ὁRA-ASF ἐνP ὁRA-DSF κοιλάςN3D-DSF ὁRA-GSM βασιλεύςN3V-GSM ὅτιC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S οὐD εἰμίV9-PAI3S αὐτόςRD-DSM υἱόςN2-NSM ἕνεκενP ὁRA-GSM ἀναμιμνήσκωVA-AAN ὁRA-ASN ὄνομαN3M-ASN αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC καλέωVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-ASF στήληN1-ASF *χείρN3-NSF *αβεσσαλωμN--GSM ἕωςC ὁRA-GSF ἡμέραN1A-GSF οὗτοςRD-GSF |
[18]Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up for himself a monument in the valley of the kings; for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance; and he called the monument by his own name; and it is called the work of Absalom to this day |
[19]καίC *αχιμααςN--NSM υἱόςN2-NSM *σαδωκN--GSM εἶπονVBI-AAI3S τρέχωVB-AAS1S δήX καίC εὐαγγελίζωVF2-FAI1S ὁRA-DSM βασιλεύςN3V-DSM ὅτιC κρίνωVAI-AAI3S αὐτόςRD-DSM κύριοςN2-NSM ἐκP χείρN3-GSF ὁRA-GPM ἐχθρόςA1A-GPM αὐτόςRD-GSM |
[19]Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run and bring the good tidings to the king, how the LORD has avenged him of his enemies. |

[20]And Joab said to him, It is not proper that you bear tidings this day, but you may bear tidings another day; this day you shall bear no tidings because the king's son is dead. |
[21]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S *ιωαβN--NSM ὁRA-DSM *χουσιN--DSM βαδίζωVA-AAPNSM ἀναἀγγέλλωVA-AAD2S ὁRA-DSM βασιλεύςN3V-DSM ὅσοςA1-APN ὁράωVBI-AAI2S καίC προςκυνέωVAI-AAI3S *χουσιN--NSM ὁRA-DSM *ιωαβN--DSM καίC ἐκἔρχομαιVBI-AAI3S |
[21]Then Joab said to Cushi, Go tell the king what you have seen; and he ran. |
[22]καίC προςτίθημιVEI-AMI3S ἔτιD *αχιμααςN--NSM υἱόςN2-NSM *σαδωκN--GSM καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S πρόςP *ιωαβN--ASM καίD εἰμίV9-PAD3S ὅτιC τρέχωVB-AAS1S καίC γέX ἐγώRP-NS ὀπίσωD ὁRA-GSM *χουσιN--GSM καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S *ιωαβN--NSM ἵναC τίςRI-NSN οὗτοςRD-NSN τρέχωV1-PAI2S υἱόςN2-VSM ἐγώRP-GS δεῦροD οὐD εἰμίV9-PAI3S σύRP-DS εὐαγγελίαN1A-NSF εἰςP ὠφέλειαN1A-ASF πορεύομαιV1-PMPDSM |
[22]Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, Why should not I too run after Cushi? And Joab said to him, Why will you run, my son, seeing no one will give you a reward for the tidings? |

[23]He said to him, What is the difference? Let me run. And he said to him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and passed Cushi. |

[24]Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate to the wall, and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw a man running alone. |

[25]And the watchman called out and told the king. And the king said, if he is alone, there are tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near. |

[26]And the watchman drew near toward the gate, and said, Behold, another man is running alone; |
[27]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S ὁRA-NSM σκοπόςN2-NSM ἐγώRP-NS ὁράωV3-PAI1S ὁRA-ASM δρόμοςN2-ASM ὁRA-GSM πρῶτοςA1-GSMS ὡςC δρόμοςN2-ASM *αχιμααςN--GSM υἱόςN2-GSM *σαδωκN--GSM καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S ὁRA-NSM βασιλεύςN3V-NSM ἀνήρN3-NSM ἀγαθόςA1-NSM οὗτοςRD-NSM καίC γέX εἰςP εὐαγγελίαN1A-ASF ἀγαθόςA1-ASF ἔρχομαιVF-FMI3S |
[27]Moreover the watchman said, I see the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said. He is a good man and comes with good tidings. |

[28]And the king called to Ahimaaz, and said to him, Have you come in peace? And he bowed before the king with his face to the earth, and said, Blessed be the LORD your God, who delivered up the men who lifted their hands against my lord the king. |

[29]Then the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, I saw a great army arrayed against Joab the servant of my lord the king, but I your servant knew not what was the outcome. |

[31]And, behold, Cushi came; and he said, Tidings, my lord the king! for the LORD has avenged you this day from the hand of all those who rose up against you. |

[32]And the king said to Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, Let your enemies, my lord the king, and all who rise up against you for evil be as that young man is. |
