| [1]ואלה דברי דוד האחרנים נאם דוד בן ישי ונאם הגבר הקם על־משיח אלהי יעקב ונעים זמרות ישראל |
[1]These also be the last words of David, David the son of Jesse saith, even the man who was set up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet singer of Israel saith, |
| [2]רוח יהוה דבר בי ומלתו על לשוני |
[2]The spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. |
| [3]אמר אלהי ישראל לי דבר צור ישראל מושל באדם־צדיק מושל יראת אלהים |
[3]The God of Israel spake to me, the strength of Israel said, Thou shalt bear rule over men, being just, and ruling in the fear of God. |
| [4]וכאור בקר יזרח שמש בקר לא עבות מנגה ממטר דשא מארץ |
[4]Even as the morning light when the sun riseth, the morning, I say, without clouds, so shall mine house be, and not as the grass of the earth is by the bright rain. |
| [5]כי לא כן ביתי עם אל כי ברית עולם שם לי ערוכה בכל ושמרה־כי כל ישעי וכל חפץ כי לא יצמיח |
[5]For so shall not mine house be with God: for he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, perfect in all points, and sure: therefore all mine health and whole desire is, that he will not make it grow so. |
| [6]ובליעל כקוץ מנד כלהם כי לא ביד יקחו |
[6]But the wicked shall be every one as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands. |
| [7]ואיש יגע בהם ימלא ברזל ועץ חנית ובאש שרוף ישרפו בשבת |
[7]But the man that shall touch them, must be defensed with iron, or with the shaft of a spear: and they shall be burned with fire in the same place. |
| [8]אלה שמות הגברים אשר לדוד ישב בשבת תחכמני ראש השלשי הוא עדינו העצנו [Q: העצני]־על שמנה מאות חלל בפעם אחד [Q: אחת] |
[8]These be the names of the mighty men whom David had. He that sat in the seat of wisdom, being chief of the princes, was Adino of Ezni, he slew eight hundred at one time. |
| [9]ואחרו אלעזר בן דדי [Q: דדו] בן אחחי בשלשה גברים [Q: הגברים] עם דוד בחרפם בפלשתים נאספו שם למלחמה ויעלו איש ישראל |
[9]And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the son of Ahohi, one of the three worthies with David, when they defied the Philistines gathered there to battle, when the men of Israel were gone up. |
| [10]הוא קם ויך בפלשתים עד כי יגעה ידו ותדבק ידו אל החרב ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה ביום ההוא והעם ישבו אחריו אך לפשט |
[10]He arose and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the Lord gave great victory the same day, and the people returned after him only to spoil. |
| [11]ואחריו שמה בן אגא הררי ויאספו פלשתים לחיה ותהי שם חלקת השדה מלאה עדשים והעם נס מפני פלשתים |
[11]After him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite: for the Philistines assembled at a town, where was a piece of a field full of lentils, and the people fled from the Philistines. |
| [12]ויתיצב בתוך החלקה ויצילה ויך את פלשתים ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה |
[12]But he stood in the midst of the field, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: so the Lord gave great victory. |
| [13]וירדו שלשים [Q: שלשה] מהשלשים ראש ויבאו אל קציר אל דוד־אל מערת עדלם וחית פלשתים חנה בעמק רפאים |
[13]Afterward three of the thirty captains went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam, and the host of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim. |
| [14]ודוד אז במצודה ומצב פלשתים אז בית לחם |
[14]And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem. |
| [15]ויתאוה דוד ויאמר מי ישקני מים מבאר בית לחם אשר בשער |
[15]And David longed, and said, Oh, that one would give me to drink of the water of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate. |
| [16]ויבקעו שלשת הגברים במחנה פלשתים וישאבו מים מבאר בית לחם אשר בשער וישאו ויבאו אל דוד ולא אבה לשתותם ויסך אתם ליהוה |
[16]Then the three mighty brake into the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem that was by the gate, and took and brought it to David, who would not drink thereof, but poured it for an offering unto the Lord, |
| [17]ויאמר חלילה לי יהוה מעשתי זאת הדם האנשים ההלכים בנפשותם ולא אבה לשתותם אלה עשו שלשת הגברים |
[17]And said, O Lord, be it far from me, that I should do this. Is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men. |
| [18]ואבישי אחי יואב בן צרויה הוא ראש השלשי [Q: השלשה] והוא עורר את חניתו על שלש מאות חלל ולו שם בשלשה |
[18]And Abishai the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among the three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and he had the name among the three. |
| [19]מן השלשה הכי נכבד ויהי להם לשר ועד השלשה לא בא |
[19]For he was most excellent of the three, and was their captain, but he attained not unto the first three. |
| [20]ובניהו בן יהוידע בן איש חי [Q: חיל] רב פעלים מקבצאל הוא הכה את שני אראל מואב והוא ירד והכה את האריה [Q: הארי] בתוך הבאר ביום השלג |
[20]And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada the son of a valiant man, which had done many acts, and was of Kabzeel, slew two strong men of Moab: he went down also, and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in the time of snow. |
| [21]והוא הכה את איש מצרי אשר [Q: איש] מראה וביד המצרי חנית וירד אליו בשבט ויגזל את החנית מיד המצרי ויהרגהו בחניתו |
[21]And he slew an Egyptian a man of great stature, and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand: but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. |
| [22]אלה עשה בניהו בן יהוידע ולו שם בשלשה הגברים |
[22]These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three worthies. |
| [23]מן השלשים נכבד ואל השלשה לא בא וישמהו דוד אל משמעתו |
[23]He was honorable among thirty, but he attained not to the first three: and David made him of his counsel. |
| [24]עשהאל אחי יואב בשלשים אלחנן בן דדו בית לחם |
[24]Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty: Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem: |
| [25]שמה החרדי אליקא החרדי |
[25]Shammah the Harodite: Elika the Harodite: |
| [26]חלץ הפלטי עירא בן עקש התקועי |
[26]Helez the Paltite: Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: |
| [27]אביעזר הענתתי מבני החשתי |
[27]Abiezer the Anathothite: Mebunnai the Husathite: |
| [28]צלמון האחחי מהרי הנטפתי |
[28]Zalmon an Ahohite: Maharai the Netophathite: |
| [29]חלב בן בענה הנטפתי אתי בן ריבי מגבעת בני בנימן |
[29]Heleb the son of Baanah a Netophathite: Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin: |
| [30]בניהו פרעתני הדי מנחלי געש |
[30]Benaiah the Pirathonite: Hiddai of the river of Gaash: |
| [31]אבי עלבון הערבתי עזמות הברחמי |
[31]Abi-albon the Arbathite: Azmaveth the Barhumite: |
| [32]אליחבא השעלבני בני ישן יהונתן |
[32]Elihaba the Shaalbonite: of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan: |
| [33]שמה ההררי אחיאם בן שרר האררי |
[33]Shammah the Hararite: Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite: |
| [34]אליפלט בן אחסבי בן המעכתי אליעם בן אחיתפל הגלני |
[34]Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai the son of Maachathi: Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite: |
| [35]חצרו [Q: חצרי] הכרמלי פערי הארבי |
[35]Hezrai the Carmelite: Paarai the Arbite: |
| [36]יגאל בן נתן מצבה בני הגדי |
[36]Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah: Bani the Gadite: |
| [37]צלק העמני נחרי הבארתי־נשאי [Q: נשא] כלי יואב בן צריה |
[37]Zelek the Ammonite: Naharai the Beerothite, the armor bearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah: |

| [39]אוריה החתי־כל שלשים ושבעה |
[39]Uriah the Hittite, thirty and seven in all. |
