| [1]κατήντησεν δὲ [καὶ] εἰς δέρβην καὶ εἰς λύστραν. καὶ ἰδοὺ μαθητής τις ἦν ἐκεῖ ὀνόματι τιμόθεος, υἱὸς γυναικὸς ἰουδαίας πιστῆς πατρὸς δὲ ἕλληνος, |
[1]Then came he to Derbe and to Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there named Timotheus, a woman's son, which was a Jewess and believed, but his father was a Grecian. |
| [2]ὃς ἐμαρτυρεῖτο ὑπὸ τῶν ἐν λύστροις καὶ ἰκονίῳ ἀδελφῶν. |
[2]Of whom the brethren which were at Lystra and Iconium, reported well. |
| [3]τοῦτον ἠθέλησεν ὁ παῦλος σὺν αὐτῶ ἐξελθεῖν, καὶ λαβὼν περιέτεμεν αὐτὸν διὰ τοὺς ἰουδαίους τοὺς ὄντας ἐν τοῖς τόποις ἐκείνοις, ᾔδεισαν γὰρ ἅπαντες ὅτι ἕλλην ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ὑπῆρχεν. |
[3]Therefore Paul would that he should go forth with him, and took and circumcised him, because of the Jews, which were in those quarters: for they knew all, that his father was a Grecian. |
| [4]ὡς δὲ διεπορεύοντο τὰς πόλεις, παρεδίδοσαν αὐτοῖς φυλάσσειν τὰ δόγματα τὰ κεκριμένα ὑπὸ τῶν ἀποστόλων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων τῶν ἐν ἱεροσολύμοις. |
[4]And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees to keep, ordained of the Apostles and Elders, which were at Jerusalem. |
| [5]αἱ μὲν οὗν ἐκκλησίαι ἐστερεοῦντο τῇ πίστει καὶ ἐπερίσσευον τῶ ἀριθμῶ καθ᾽ ἡμέραν. |
[5]And so were the Churches stablished in the faith, and increased in number daily. |
| [6]διῆλθον δὲ τὴν φρυγίαν καὶ γαλατικὴν χώραν, κωλυθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος λαλῆσαι τὸν λόγον ἐν τῇ ἀσίᾳ· |
[6]� Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia, and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia. |
| [7]ἐλθόντες δὲ κατὰ τὴν μυσίαν ἐπείραζον εἰς τὴν βιθυνίαν πορευθῆναι, καὶ οὐκ εἴασεν αὐτοὺς τὸ πνεῦμα ἰησοῦ· |
[7]Then came they to Mysia, and sought to go into Bithynia:but the Spirit suffered them not. |
| [8]παρελθόντες δὲ τὴν μυσίαν κατέβησαν εἰς τρῳάδα. |
[8]Therefore they passed through Mysia, and came down to Troas, |
| [9]καὶ ὅραμα διὰ [τῆς] νυκτὸς τῶ παύλῳ ὤφθη, ἀνὴρ μακεδών τις ἦν ἑστὼς καὶ παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγων, διαβὰς εἰς μακεδονίαν βοήθησον ἡμῖν. |
[9]Where a vision appeared to Paul in the night. There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come into Macedonia, and help us. |
| [10]ὡς δὲ τὸ ὅραμα εἶδεν, εὐθέως ἐζητήσαμεν ἐξελθεῖν εἰς μακεδονίαν, συμβιβάζοντες ὅτι προσκέκληται ἡμᾶς ὁ θεὸς εὐαγγελίσασθαι αὐτούς. |
[10]And after he had seen the vision, immediately we prepared to go into Macedonia, being assured that the Lord had called us to preach the Gospel unto them. |
| [11]ἀναχθέντες δὲ ἀπὸ τρῳάδος εὐθυδρομήσαμεν εἰς σαμοθρᾴκην, τῇ δὲ ἐπιούσῃ εἰς νέαν πόλιν, |
[11]Then went we forth from Troas, and with a straight course came to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis, |
| [12]κἀκεῖθεν εἰς φιλίππους, ἥτις ἐστὶν πρώτη[ς] μερίδος τῆς μακεδονίας πόλις, κολωνία. ἦμεν δὲ ἐν ταύτῃ τῇ πόλει διατρίβοντες ἡμέρας τινάς. |
[12]� And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city in the parts of Macedonia, and whose inhabitants came from Rome to dwell there, and we were in that city abiding certain days. |
| [13]τῇ τε ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων ἐξήλθομεν ἔξω τῆς πύλης παρὰ ποταμὸν οὖ ἐνομίζομεν προσευχὴν εἶναι, καὶ καθίσαντες ἐλαλοῦμεν ταῖς συνελθούσαις γυναιξίν. |
[13]And on the Sabbath day, we went out of the city, besides a river, where they were wont to pray: and we sat down, and spake unto the women, which were come together. |
| [14]καί τις γυνὴ ὀνόματι λυδία, πορφυρόπωλις πόλεως θυατείρων σεβομένη τὸν θεόν, ἤκουεν, ἧς ὁ κύριος διήνοιξεν τὴν καρδίαν προσέχειν τοῖς λαλουμένοις ὑπὸ τοῦ παύλου. |
[14]And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of the Thyatirians, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things, which Paul spake. |
| [15]ὡς δὲ ἐβαπτίσθη καὶ ὁ οἶκος αὐτῆς, παρεκάλεσεν λέγουσα, εἰ κεκρίκατέ με πιστὴν τῶ κυρίῳ εἶναι, εἰσελθόντες εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου μένετε· καὶ παρεβιάσατο ἡμᾶς. |
[15]And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into mine house, and abide there: and she constrained us. |
| [16]ἐγένετο δὲ πορευομένων ἡμῶν εἰς τὴν προσευχὴν παιδίσκην τινὰ ἔχουσαν πνεῦμα πύθωνα ὑπαντῆσαι ἡμῖν, ἥτις ἐργασίαν πολλὴν παρεῖχεν τοῖς κυρίοις αὐτῆς μαντευομένη. |
[16]And it came to pass that as we went to prayer, a certain maid having a spirit of divination, met us, which gat her masters much vantage with divining. |
| [17]αὕτη κατακολουθοῦσα τῶ παύλῳ καὶ ἡμῖν ἔκραζεν λέγουσα, οὖτοι οἱ ἄνθρωποι δοῦλοι τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου εἰσίν, οἵτινες καταγγέλλουσιν ὑμῖν ὁδὸν σωτηρίας. |
[17]She followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation. |
| [18]τοῦτο δὲ ἐποίει ἐπὶ πολλὰς ἡμέρας. διαπονηθεὶς δὲ παῦλος καὶ ἐπιστρέψας τῶ πνεύματι εἶπεν, παραγγέλλω σοι ἐν ὀνόματι ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ ἐξελθεῖν ἀπ᾽ αὐτῆς· καὶ ἐξῆλθεν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ. |
[18]And this did she many days: but Paul being grieved, turned about, and said to the spirit, I command thee in the Name of Jesus Christ, that thou come out of her. And he came out the same hour. |
| [19]ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ κύριοι αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐξῆλθεν ἡ ἐλπὶς τῆς ἐργασίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενοι τὸν παῦλον καὶ τὸν σιλᾶν εἵλκυσαν εἰς τὴν ἀγορὰν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας, |
[19]Now when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the market place unto the magistrates, |
| [20]καὶ προσαγαγόντες αὐτοὺς τοῖς στρατηγοῖς εἶπαν, οὖτοι οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἐκταράσσουσιν ἡμῶν τὴν πόλιν ἰουδαῖοι ὑπάρχοντες, |
[20]And brought them to the governors, saying, These men which are Jews, trouble our city, |
| [21]καὶ καταγγέλλουσιν ἔθη ἃ οὐκ ἔξεστιν ἡμῖν παραδέχεσθαι οὐδὲ ποιεῖν ῥωμαίοις οὗσιν. |
[21]And preach ordinances, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, seeing we are Romans. |
| [22]καὶ συνεπέστη ὁ ὄχλος κατ᾽ αὐτῶν, καὶ οἱ στρατηγοὶ περιρήξαντες αὐτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια ἐκέλευον ῥαβδίζειν, |
[22]The people also rose up together against them, and the governors rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with rods. |
| [23]πολλάς τε ἐπιθέντες αὐτοῖς πληγὰς ἔβαλον εἰς φυλακήν, παραγγείλαντες τῶ δεσμοφύλακι ἀσφαλῶς τηρεῖν αὐτούς· |
[23]And when they had beaten them sore, they cast them into prison, commanding the jailor to keep them surely. |
| [24]ὃς παραγγελίαν τοιαύτην λαβὼν ἔβαλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἐσωτέραν φυλακὴν καὶ τοὺς πόδας ἠσφαλίσατο αὐτῶν εἰς τὸ ξύλον. |
[24]Who having received such commandment, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. |
| [25]κατὰ δὲ τὸ μεσονύκτιον παῦλος καὶ σιλᾶς προσευχόμενοι ὕμνουν τὸν θεόν, ἐπηκροῶντο δὲ αὐτῶν οἱ δέσμιοι· |
[25]Now at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang a Psalm unto God: and the prisoners heard them. |
| [26]ἄφνω δὲ σεισμὸς ἐγένετο μέγας ὥστε σαλευθῆναι τὰ θεμέλια τοῦ δεσμωτηρίου, ἠνεῴχθησαν δὲ παραχρῆμα αἱ θύραι πᾶσαι, καὶ πάντων τὰ δεσμὰ ἀνέθη. |
[26]And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundation of the prison was shaken: and by and by all the doors opened, and every man's bands were loosed. |
| [27]ἔξυπνος δὲ γενόμενος ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ καὶ ἰδὼν ἀνεῳγμένας τὰς θύρας τῆς φυλακῆς, σπασάμενος [τὴν] μάχαιραν ἤμελλεν ἑαυτὸν ἀναιρεῖν, νομίζων ἐκπεφευγέναι τοὺς δεσμίους. |
[27]Then the keeper of the prison waked out of his sleep, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew out his sword and would have killed himself, supposing the prisoners had been fled. |
| [28]ἐφώνησεν δὲ μεγάλῃ φωνῇ [ὁ] παῦλος λέγων, μηδὲν πράξῃς σεαυτῶ κακόν, ἅπαντες γάρ ἐσμεν ἐνθάδε. |
[28]But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. |
| [29]αἰτήσας δὲ φῶτα εἰσεπήδησεν, καὶ ἔντρομος γενόμενος προσέπεσεν τῶ παύλῳ καὶ [τῶ] σιλᾷ, |
[29]Then he called for a light and leaped in and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, |
| [30]καὶ προαγαγὼν αὐτοὺς ἔξω ἔφη, κύριοι, τί με δεῖ ποιεῖν ἵνα σωθῶ; |
[30]And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? |
| [31]οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, πίστευσον ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον ἰησοῦν, καὶ σωθήσῃ σὺ καὶ ὁ οἶκός σου. |
[31]And they said, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thine household. |
| [32]καὶ ἐλάλησαν αὐτῶ τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου σὺν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ. |
[32]And they preached unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. |
| [33]καὶ παραλαβὼν αὐτοὺς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ τῆς νυκτὸς ἔλουσεν ἀπὸ τῶν πληγῶν, καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ αὐτοῦ πάντες παραχρῆμα, |
[33]Afterward he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes, and was baptized with all that belonged unto him, straightway. |
| [34]ἀναγαγών τε αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸν οἶκον παρέθηκεν τράπεζαν, καὶ ἠγαλλιάσατο πανοικεὶ πεπιστευκὼς τῶ θεῶ. |
[34]And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced that he with all his household believed in God. |
| [35]ἡμέρας δὲ γενομένης ἀπέστειλαν οἱ στρατηγοὶ τοὺς ῥαβδούχους λέγοντες, ἀπόλυσον τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ἐκείνους. |
[35]And when it was day, the governors sent the sergeants, saying, Let those men go. |
| [36]ἀπήγγειλεν δὲ ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ τοὺς λόγους [τούτους] πρὸς τὸν παῦλον, ὅτι ἀπέσταλκαν οἱ στρατηγοὶ ἵνα ἀπολυθῆτε· νῦν οὗν ἐξελθόντες πορεύεσθε ἐν εἰρήνῃ. |
[36]Then the keeper of the prison told these words unto Paul, saying, The governors have sent to loose you: now therefore get you hence, and go in peace. |
| [37]ὁ δὲ παῦλος ἔφη πρὸς αὐτούς, δείραντες ἡμᾶς δημοσίᾳ ἀκατακρίτους, ἀνθρώπους ῥωμαίους ὑπάρχοντας, ἔβαλαν εἰς φυλακήν· καὶ νῦν λάθρᾳ ἡμᾶς ἐκβάλλουσιν; οὐ γάρ, ἀλλὰ ἐλθόντες αὐτοὶ ἡμᾶς ἐξαγαγέτωσαν. |
[37]Then said Paul unto them, After that they have beaten us openly uncondemned, which are Romans, they have cast us into prison, and now would they put us out privily? nay verily: but let them come and bring us out. |
| [38]ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ τοῖς στρατηγοῖς οἱ ῥαβδοῦχοι τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα. ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ ἀκούσαντες ὅτι ῥωμαῖοί εἰσιν, |
[38]And the sergeants told these words unto the governors, who feared when they heard that they were Romans. |
| [39]καὶ ἐλθόντες παρεκάλεσαν αὐτούς, καὶ ἐξαγαγόντες ἠρώτων ἀπελθεῖν ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως. |
[39]Then came they and prayed them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city. |
| [40]ἐξελθόντες δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλακῆς εἰσῆλθον πρὸς τὴν λυδίαν, καὶ ἰδόντες παρεκάλεσαν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ ἐξῆλθαν. |
[40]And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed. |
