[1]When thou goest outH3318[H8799] to battleH4421 against thine enemiesH341[H8802], and seestH7200[H8804] horsesH5483, and chariotsH7393, and a peopleH5971 moreH7227 than thou, be not afraidH3372[H8799] of them: for the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 is with thee, which brought thee upH5927[H8688] out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. |
[1]When thou shalt go forth to war against thine enemies, and shalt see horses and chariots, and people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt. |
[2]And it shall be, when ye are come nighH7126[H8800] unto the battleH4421, that the priestH3548 shall approachH5066[H8738] and speakH1696[H8765] unto the peopleH5971, |
[2]And when ye are come near unto the battle, then the priest shall come forth to speak unto the people, |
[3]And shall sayH559[H8804] unto them, HearH8085[H8798], O IsraelH3478, ye approachH7131 this dayH3117 unto battleH4421 against your enemiesH341[H8802]: let not your heartsH3824 faintH7401[H8735], fearH3372[H8799] not, and do not trembleH2648[H8799], neither be ye terrifiedH6206[H8799] because of themH6440; |
[3]And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel: ye are come this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, neither fear, nor be amazed, nor a dread of them. |
[4]For the LORDH3068 your GodH430 is he that goethH1980[H8802] with you, to fightH3898[H8736] for you against your enemiesH341[H8802], to saveH3467 youH8687. |
[4]For the Lord your God goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, and to save you |
[5]And the officersH7860[H8802] shall speakH1696[H8765] unto the peopleH5971, sayingH559[H8800], What manH376 is there that hath builtH1129[H8804] a newH2319 houseH1004, and hath not dedicatedH2596[H8804] it? let him goH3212[H8799] and returnH7725[H8799] to his houseH1004, lest he dieH4191[H8799] in the battleH4421, and anotherH312 manH376 dedicateH2596 itH8799. |
[5]And let the officers speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicate it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it. |
[6]And what manH376 is he that hath plantedH5193[H8804] a vineyardH3754, and hath not yet eatenH2490[H8765] of it? let him also goH3212[H8799] and returnH7725[H8799] unto his houseH1004, lest he dieH4191[H8799] in the battleH4421, and anotherH312 manH376 eatH2490 of itH8762. |
[6]And what man is there that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not eaten of the fruit? Let him go and return again unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another eat the fruit. |
[7]And what manH376 is there that hath betrothedH781[H8765] a wifeH802, and hath not takenH3947[H8804] her? let him goH3212[H8799] and returnH7725[H8799] unto his houseH1004, lest he dieH4191[H8799] in the battleH4421, and anotherH312 manH376 takeH3947 herH8799. |
[7]And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? Let him go and return again unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her. |
[8]And the officersH7860[H8802] shall speakH1696[H8763] furtherH3254[H8804] unto the peopleH5971, and they shall sayH559[H8804], What manH376 is there that is fearfulH3373 and faintheartedH7390[H3824]? let him goH3212[H8799] and returnH7725[H8799] unto his houseH1004, lest his brethren'sH251 heartH3824 faintH4549[H8735] as well as his heartH3824. |
[8]And let the officers speak further unto the people, and say, Whosoever is afraid and faint hearted, let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint like his heart. |
[9]And it shall be, when the officersH7860[H8802] have made an endH3615[H8763] of speakingH1696[H8763] unto the peopleH5971, that they shall makeH6485[H8804] captainsH8269 of the armiesH6635 to leadH7218 the peopleH5971. |
[9]And after that the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, they shall make captains of the army to govern the people. |
[10]When thou comest nighH7126[H8799] unto a cityH5892 to fightH3898[H8736] against it, then proclaimH7121[H8804] peace unto itH7965. |
[10]When thou comest near unto a city to fight against it, thou shalt offer it peace. |
[11]And it shall be, if it make thee answerH6030[H8799] of peaceH7965, and openH6605[H8804] unto thee, then it shall be, that all the peopleH5971 that is foundH4672[H8737] therein shall be tributariesH4522 unto thee, and they shall serveH5647 theeH8804. |
[11]And if it answer thee again peaceably, and open unto thee, then let all the people that is found therein, be tributaries unto thee, and serve thee. |
[12]And if it will make no peaceH7999[H8686] with thee, but will makeH6213[H8804] warH4421 against thee, then thou shalt besiegeH6696 itH8804: |
[12]But if it will make no peace with thee, but make war against thee, then shalt thou besiege it. |
[13]And when the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath deliveredH5414[H8804] it into thine handsH3027, thou shalt smiteH5221[H8689] every maleH2138 thereof with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719: |
[13]And the Lord thy God shall deliver it into thine hands, and thou shalt smite all the males thereof with the edge of the sword. |
[14]But the womenH802, and the little onesH2945, and the cattleH929, and all that is in the cityH5892, even all the spoilH7998 thereof, shalt thou takeH962[H8799] unto thyself; and thou shalt eatH398[H8804] the spoilH7998 of thine enemiesH341[H8802], which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath givenH5414 theeH8804. |
[14]Only the women, and the children, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof shalt thou take unto thyself, and shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee. |
[15]Thus shalt thou doH6213[H8799] unto all the citiesH5892 which are veryH3966 far offH7350 from thee, whichH2007 are not of the citiesH5892 of these nationsH1471. |
[15]Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities, which are a great way off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations here. |
[16]But of the citiesH5892 of these peopleH5971, which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 doth giveH5414[H8802] thee for an inheritanceH5159, thou shalt save aliveH2421[H8762] nothing that breathethH5397: |
[16]But of the cities of this people, which the Lord thy God shall give thee to inherit, thou shalt save no person alive, |
[17]But thou shalt utterlyH2763[H8687] destroyH2763[H8686] them; namely, the HittitesH2850, and the AmoritesH567, the CanaanitesH3669, and the PerizzitesH6522, the HivitesH2340, and the JebusitesH2983; as the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath commandedH6680 theeH8765: |
[17]But shalt utterly destroy them: to wit, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee, |
[18]That they teachH3925[H8762] you not to doH6213[H8800] after all their abominationsH8441, which they have doneH6213[H8804] unto their godsH430; so should ye sinH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068 your GodH430. |
[18]That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods, and so ye should sin against the Lord your God. |
[19]When thou shalt besiegeH6696[H8799] a cityH5892 a longH7227 timeH3117, in making warH3898[H8736] against it to takeH8610[H8800] it, thou shalt not destroyH7843[H8686] the treesH6086 thereof by forcingH5080[H8800] an axeH1631 against them: for thou mayest eatH398[H8799] of them, and thou shalt not cut them downH3772[H8799] (for the treeH6086 of the fieldH7704 is man'sH120 life) to employH935[H8800] them in the siegeH6440:[H4692] |
[19]When thou hast besieged a city long time, and made war against it to take it, destroy not the trees thereof, by smiting an ax into them: for thou mayest eat of them: therefore thou shalt not cut them down to further thee in the siege, (for the tree of the field is man's life) |
[20]Only the treesH6086 which thou knowestH3045[H8799] that they be not treesH6086 for meatH3978, thou shalt destroyH7843[H8686] and cut them downH3772[H8804]; and thou shalt buildH1129[H8804] bulwarksH4692 against the cityH5892 that makethH6213[H8802] warH4421 with thee, until it be subduedH3381.[H8800] |
[20]Only those trees, which thou knowest are not for meat, those shalt thou destroy and cut down, and make forts against the city that maketh war with thee, until thou subdue it. |
