[1]Now it came to pass on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that EstherH635 put onH3847[H8799] her royalH4438 apparel, and stoodH5975[H8799] in the innerH6442 courtH2691 of the king'sH4428 houseH1004, over againstH5227 the king'sH4428 houseH1004: and the kingH4428 satH3427[H8802] upon his royalH4438 throneH3678 in the royalH4438 houseH1004, over againstH5227 the gateH6607 of the houseH1004. [1]And on the third day Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the court of the king's palace within, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the king's palace over against the gate of the house.
[2]And it was so, when the kingH4428 sawH7200[H8800] EstherH635 the queenH4436 standingH5975[H8802] in the courtH2691, that she obtainedH5375[H8804] favourH2580 in his sightH5869: and the kingH4428 held outH3447[H8686] to EstherH635 the goldenH2091 sceptreH8275 that was in his handH3027. So EstherH635 drew nearH7126[H8799], and touchedH5060[H8799] the topH7218 of the sceptreH8275. [2]And when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she found favor in his sight: and the king held out the golden scepter that was in his hand: so Esther drew near, and touched the top of the scepter.
[3]Then saidH559[H8799] the kingH4428 unto her, What wilt thou, queenH4436 EstherH635? and what is thy requestH1246? it shall be even givenH5414[H8735] thee to the halfH2677 of the kingdomH4438. [3]Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? And what is thy request? It shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.
[4]And EstherH635 answeredH559[H8799], If it seem goodH2895[H8804] unto the kingH4428, let the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 comeH935[H8799] this dayH3117 unto the banquetH4960 that I have preparedH6213 for himH8804. [4]Then said Esther, If it please the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet, that I have prepared for him.
[5]Then the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], Cause HamanH2001 to make hasteH4116[H8761], that he may doH6213[H8800] as EstherH635 hath saidH1697. So the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 cameH935[H8799] to the banquetH4960 that EstherH635 had preparedH6213.[H8804] [5]And the king said, Cause Haman to make haste that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
[6]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto EstherH635 at the banquetH4960 of wineH3196, What is thy petitionH7596? and it shall be grantedH5414[H8735] thee: and what is thy requestH1246? even to the halfH2677 of the kingdomH4438 it shall be performedH6213.[H8735] [6]And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, that it may be given thee? And what is thy request? It shall even be performed unto the half of the kingdom.
[7]Then answeredH6030[H8799] EstherH635, and saidH559[H8799], My petitionH7596 and my request isH1246; [7]Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is,
[8]If I have foundH4672[H8804] favourH2580 in the sightH5869 of the kingH4428, and if it pleaseH2895[H8804] the kingH4428 to grantH5414[H8800] my petitionH7596, and to performH6213[H8800] my requestH1246, let the kingH4428 and HamanH2001 comeH935[H8799] to the banquetH4960 that I shall prepareH6213[H8799] for them, and I will doH6213[H8799] to morrowH4279 as the kingH4428 hath saidH1697. [8]If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to give me my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow according to the king's saying.
[9]Then wentH3318 HamanH2001 forthH3318[H8799] that dayH3117 joyfulH8056 and with a gladH2896 heartH3820: but when HamanH2001 sawH7200[H8800] MordecaiH4782 in the king'sH4428 gateH8179, that he stood not upH6965[H8804], nor movedH2111[H8804] for him, heH2001 was fullH4390[H8735] of indignationH2534 against MordecaiH4782. [9]Then went Haman forth the same day joyful and with a glad heart. But when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, then was Haman full of indignation at Mordecai.
[10]Nevertheless HamanH2001 refrainedH662[H8691] himself: and when he cameH935[H8799] homeH1004, he sentH7971[H8799] and calledH935[H8686] for his friendsH157[H8802], and ZereshH2238 his wifeH802. [10]Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent, and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.
[11]And HamanH2001 toldH5608[H8762] them of the gloryH3519 of his richesH6239, and the multitudeH7230 of his childrenH1121, and all the things wherein the kingH4428 had promotedH1431[H8765] him, and how he had advancedH5375[H8765] him above the princesH8269 and servantsH5650 of the kingH4428. [11]And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how that he had set him above the princes and servants of the king.
[12]HamanH2001 saidH559[H8799] moreover, Yea, EstherH635 the queenH4436 did let no man come inH935[H8689] with the kingH4428 unto the banquetH4960 that she had preparedH6213[H8804] but myself; and to morrowH4279 am I invitedH7121[H8803] unto her also with the kingH4428. [12]Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared, save me: and tomorrow am I bidden unto her also with the king.
[13]Yet all this availethH7737[H8802] me nothing, so long asH6256 I seeH7200[H8802] MordecaiH4782 the JewH3064 sittingH3427[H8802] at the king'sH4428 gateH8179. [13]But all this doth nothing avail me, as long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.
[14]Then saidH559[H8799] ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 and all his friendsH157[H8802] unto him, Let a gallowsH6086 be madeH6213[H8799] of fiftyH2572 cubitsH520 highH1364, and to morrowH1242 speakH559[H8798] thou unto the kingH4428 that MordecaiH4782 may be hangedH8518[H8799] thereon: then goH935[H8798] thou in merrilyH8056 with the kingH4428 unto the banquetH4960. And the thingH1697 pleasedH3190[H8799][H6440] HamanH2001; and he causedH6213 the gallowsH6086 to be madeH6213.[H8799] [14]Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let them make a tree of fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak thou unto the king, that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then shalt thou go joyfully with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman, and he caused to make the tree.
