|
[1]And they took their journeyH5265[H8799] from ElimH362, and all the congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 cameH935[H8799] unto the wildernessH4057 of SinH5512, which is between ElimH362 and SinaiH5514, on the fifteenthH2568[H6240] dayH3117 of the secondH8145 monthH2320 after their departing outH3318[H8800] of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. |
[1]And they departed from Ælim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Ælim and Sina; and on the fifteenth day, in the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt, |
[2]And the whole congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 murmuredH3885[H8735] against MosesH4872 and AaronH175 in the wildernessH4057: |
[2]all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron. |
[3]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799] unto them, Would to GodH4310[H5414][H8799] we had diedH4191[H8800] by the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, when we satH3427[H8800] by the fleshH1320 potsH5518, and when we did eatH398[H8800] breadH3899 to the fullH7648; for ye have brought us forthH3318[H8689] into this wildernessH4057, to killH4191[H8687] this whole assemblyH6951 with hungerH7458. |
[3]And the children of Israel said to them, Would we had died smitten by the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, and ate bread to satiety! for ye have brought us out into this wilderness, to slay all this congregation with hunger. |
[4]Then saidH559[H8799] the LORDH3068 unto MosesH4872, Behold, I will rainH4305[H8688] breadH3899 from heavenH8064 for you; and the peopleH5971 shall go outH3318[H8804] and gatherH3950[H8804] a certain rateH1697 every dayH3117[H3117], that I may proveH5254[H8762] them, whether they will walkH3212[H8799] in my law, or noH8451. |
[4]And the Lord said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread upon you out of heaven: and the people shall go forth, and they shall gather their daily portion for the day, that I may try them whether they will walk in my law or not. |
[5]And it shall come to pass, that on the sixthH8345 dayH3117 they shall prepareH3559[H8689] that whichH834 they bring inH935[H8686]; and it shall be twiceH4932 as much as they gatherH3950[H8799] dailyH3117.[H3117] |
[5]And it shall come to pass on the sixth day that they shall prepare whatsoever they have brought in, and it shall be double of what they shall have gathered for the day, daily. |
[6]And MosesH4872 and AaronH175 saidH559[H8799] unto all the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, At evenH6153, then ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that the LORDH3068 hath brought you outH3318[H8689] from the landH776 of EgyptH4714: |
[6]And Moses and Aaron said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, At even ye shall know that the Lord has brought you out of the land of Egypt; |
[7]And in the morningH1242, then ye shall seeH7200[H8804] the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068; for that he hearethH8085[H8800] your murmuringsH8519 against the LORDH3068: and what are weH5168, that ye murmurH3885[H8686][H8675][H3885] against usH8735? |
[7]and in the morning ye shall see the glory of the Lord, inasmuch as he hears your murmuring against God; and who are we, that ye continue to murmur against us? |
[8]And MosesH4872 saidH559[H8799], This shall be, when the LORDH3068 shall giveH5414[H8800] you in the eveningH6153 fleshH1320 to eatH398[H8800], and in the morningH1242 breadH3899 to the fullH7646[H8800]; for that the LORDH3068 hearethH8085[H8800] your murmuringsH8519 which ye murmurH3885[H8688] against him: and what are weH5168? your murmuringsH8519 are not against us, but against the LORDH3068. |
[8]And Moses said, This shall be when the Lord gives you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety, because the Lord has heard your murmuring, which ye murmur against us: and what are we? for your murmuring is not against us, but against God. |
[9]And MosesH4872 spakeH559[H8799] unto AaronH175, SayH559[H8798] unto all the congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, Come nearH7126[H8798] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: for he hath heardH8085[H8804] your murmuringsH8519. |
[9]And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before God; for he has heard your murmuring. |
[10]And it came to pass, as AaronH175 spakeH1696[H8763] unto the whole congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, that they lookedH6437[H8799] toward the wildernessH4057, and, behold, the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068 appearedH7200[H8738] in the cloudH6051. |
[10]And when Aaron spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and they turned toward the wilderness, then the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud. |
[11]And the LORDH3068 spakeH1696[H8762] unto MosesH4872, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[11]And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, |
[12]I have heardH8085[H8804] the murmuringsH8519 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: speakH1696[H8761] unto them, sayingH559[H8800], At evenH996[H6153] ye shall eatH398[H8799] fleshH1320, and in the morningH1242 ye shall be filledH7646[H8799] with breadH3899; and ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068 your GodH430. |
[12]I have heard the murmuring of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, Towards evening ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be satisfied with bread; and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. |
[13]And it came to pass, that at evenH6153 the quailsH7958 came upH5927[H8799], and coveredH3680[H8762] the campH4264: and in the morningH1242 the dewH2919 layH7902 round aboutH5439 the hostH4264. |
[13]And it was evening, and quails came up and covered the camp: |
[14]And when the dewH2919 that layH7902 was gone upH5927[H8799], behold, upon the faceH6440 of the wildernessH4057 there lay a smallH1851 round thingH2636[H8794], as smallH1851 as the hoar frostH3713 on the groundH776. |
[14]in the morning it came to pass as the dew ceased round about the camp, that, behold, on the face of the wilderness was a small thing like white coriander seed, as frost upon the earth. |
[15]And when the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 sawH7200[H8799] it, they saidH559[H8799] oneH376 to anotherH251, It is mannaH4478: for they wistH3045[H8804] not what it was. And MosesH4872 saidH559[H8799] unto them, This is the breadH3899 which the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414[H8804] you to eatH402. |
[15]And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is this? for they knew not what it was; and Moses said to them, |
[16]This is the thingH1697 whichH834 the LORDH3068 hath commandedH6680[H8765], GatherH3950[H8798] of it every manH376 accordingH6310 to his eatingH400, an omerH6016 for every manH1538, according to the numberH4557 of your personsH5315; takeH3947[H8799] ye every manH376 for them which are in his tentsH168. |
[16]This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. This is that which the Lord has appointed: gather of it each man for his family, a homer for each person, according to the number of your souls, gather each of you with his fellow-lodgers. |
[17]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213[H8799] so, and gatheredH3950[H8799], some moreH7235[H8688], some lessH4591.[H8688] |
[17]And the children of Israel did so, and gathered some much and some less. |
[18]And when they did meteH4058[H8799] it with an omerH6016, he that gathered muchH7235[H8688] had nothing overH5736[H8689], and he that gathered littleH4591[H8688] had no lackH2637[H8689]; they gatheredH3950[H8804] every manH376 accordingH6310 to his eatingH400. |
[18]And having measured the homer full, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that had gathered less had no lack; each gathered according to the need of those who belonged to him. |
[19]And MosesH4872 saidH559[H8799], Let no manH376 leaveH3498[H8686] of it till the morningH1242. |
[19]And Moses said to them, Let no man leave of it till the morning. |
[20]Notwithstanding they hearkenedH8085[H8804] not unto MosesH4872; but someH582 of them leftH3498[H8686] of it until the morningH1242, and it bredH7311[H8799] wormsH8438, and stankH887[H8799]: and MosesH4872 was wrothH7107 with themH8799. |
[20]But they did not hearken to Moses, but some left of it till the morning; and it bred worms and stank: and Moses was irritated with them. |
[21]And they gatheredH3950[H8799] it every morningH1242, every manH376 accordingH6310 to his eatingH400: and when the sunH8121 waxed hotH2552[H8804], it meltedH4549.[H8738] |
[21]And they gathered it every morning, each man what he needed, and when the sun waxed hot it melted. |
[22]And it came to pass, that on the sixthH8345 dayH3117 they gatheredH3950[H8804] twiceH4932 as much breadH3899, twoH8147 omersH6016 for oneH259 man: and all the rulersH5387 of the congregationH5712 cameH935[H8799] and toldH5046[H8686] MosesH4872. |
[22]And it came to pass on the sixth day, they gathered double what was needed, two homers for one man; and all the chiefs of the synagogue went in and reported it to Moses. |
[23]And he saidH559[H8799] unto them, This is that which the LORDH3068 hath saidH1696[H8765], To morrowH4279 is the restH7677 of the holyH6944 sabbathH7676 unto the LORDH3068: bakeH644[H8798] that which ye will bakeH644[H8799] to day, and seetheH1310[H8761] that ye will seetheH1310[H8762]; and that whichH3605 remaineth overH5736[H8802] lay upH3240[H8685] for you to be keptH4931 until the morningH1242. |
[23]And Moses said to them, Is not this the word which the Lord spoke? To-morrow is the sabbath, a holy rest to the Lord: bake that ye will bake, and seethe that ye will seethe, and all that is over leave to be laid by for the morrow. |
[24]And they laid it upH3240[H8686] till the morningH1242, as MosesH4872 badeH6680[H8765]: and it did not stinkH887[H8689], neither was there any worm thereinH7415. |
[24]And they left of it till the morning, as Moses commanded them; and it stank not, neither was there a worm in it. |
[25]And MosesH4872 saidH559[H8799], EatH398[H8798] that to dayH3117; for to dayH3117 is a sabbathH7676 unto the LORDH3068: to dayH3117 ye shall not findH4672[H8799] it in the fieldH7704. |
[25]And Moses said, Eat that to-day, for to-day is a sabbath to the Lord: it shall not be found in the plain. |
[26]SixH8337 daysH3117 ye shall gatherH3950[H8799] it; but on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be noneH7676. |
[26]Six days ye shall gather it, and on the seventh day is a sabbath, for there shall be none on that day. |
[27]And it came to pass, that there went outH3318[H8804] some of the peopleH5971 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 for to gatherH3950[H8800], and they foundH4672 noneH8804. |
[27]And it came to pass on the seventh day that some of the people went forth to gather, and found none. |
[28]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto MosesH4872, How long refuseH3985[H8765] ye to keepH8104[H8800] my commandmentsH4687 and my lawsH8451? |
[28]And the Lord said to Moses, How long are ye unwilling to hearken to my commands and my law? |
[29]SeeH7200[H8798], for that the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414[H8804] you the sabbathH7676, therefore he givethH5414[H8802] you on the sixthH8345 dayH3117 the breadH3899 of two daysH3117; abideH3427[H8798] ye every manH376 in his place, let no manH376 go outH3318[H8799] of his placeH4725 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117. |
[29]See, for the Lord has given you this day as the sabbath, therefore he has given you on the sixth day the bread of two days: ye shall sit each of you in your houses; let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day. |
[30]So the peopleH5971 restedH7673[H8799] on the seventhH7637 dayH3117. |
[30]And the people kept sabbath on the seventh day. |
[31]And the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121[H8799] the nameH8034 thereof MannaH4478: and it was like corianderH1407 seedH2233, whiteH3836; and the tasteH2940 of it was like wafersH6838 made with honeyH1706. |
[31]And the children of Israel called the name of it Man; and it was as white coriander seed, and the taste of it as a wafer with honey. |
[32]And MosesH4872 saidH559[H8799], This is the thingH1697 which the LORDH3068 commandethH6680[H8765], FillH4393 an omerH6016 of it to be keptH4931 for your generationsH1755; that they may seeH7200[H8799] the breadH3899 wherewith I have fedH398[H8689] you in the wildernessH4057, when I brought you forthH3318[H8687] from the landH776 of EgyptH4714. |
[32]And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, Fill an homer with manna, to be laid up for your generations; that they may see the bread which ye ate in the wilderness, when the Lord led you forth out of the land of Egypt. |
[33]And MosesH4872 saidH559[H8799] unto AaronH175, TakeH3947[H8798] aH259 potH6803, and putH5414[H8798] an omerH6016 fullH4393 of mannaH4478 therein, and lay it upH3240[H8685] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, to be keptH4931 for your generationsH1755. |
[33]And Moses said to Aaron, Take a golden pot, and cast into it one full homer of manna; and thou shalt lay it up before God, to be kept for your generations, |
[34]As the LORDH3068 commandedH6680[H8765] MosesH4872, so AaronH175 laid it upH3240[H8686] beforeH6440 the TestimonyH5715, to be keptH4931. |
[34]as the Lord commanded Moses: and Aaron laid it up before the testimony to be kept. |
[35]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 did eatH398[H8804] mannaH4478 fortyH705 yearsH8141, until they cameH935[H8800] to a landH776 inhabitedH3427[H8737]; they did eatH398[H8804] mannaH4478, until they cameH935[H8800] unto the bordersH7097 of the landH776 of CanaanH3667. |
[35]And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to the land they ate the manna, until they came to the region of Phoenicia. |
[36]Now an omerH6016 is the tenthH6224 part of an ephahH374. |
[36]Now the homer was the tenth part of three measures. |
