Young's Literal Translation
YLT
[1]And there wentH3212[H8799] a manH376 of the houseH1004 of LeviH3878, and tookH3947[H8799] to wife a daughterH1323 of LeviH3878. [1]And there goeth a man of the house of Levi, and he taketh the daughter of Levi,
[2]And the womanH802 conceivedH2029[H8799], and bareH3205[H8799] a sonH1121: and when she sawH7200[H8799] him that he was a goodlyH2896 child, she hidH6845[H8799] him threeH7969 monthsH3391. [2]and the woman conceiveth, and beareth a son, and she seeth him that he [is] fair, and she hideth him three months,
[3]And when she couldH3201[H8804] not longerH5750 hideH6845[H8687] him, she tookH3947[H8799] for him an arkH8392 of bulrushesH1573, and daubedH2560[H8799] it with slimeH2564 and with pitchH2203, and putH7760[H8799] the childH3206 therein; and she laidH7760[H8799] it in the flagsH5488 by the river'sH2975 brinkH8193. [3]and she hath not been able any more to hide him, and she taketh for him an ark of rushes, and daubeth it with bitumen and with pitch, and putteth the lad in it, and putteth [it] in the weeds by the edge of the River;
[4]And his sisterH269 stoodH3320[H8691] afar offH7350, to witH3045[H8800] what would be doneH6213 to himH8735. [4]and his sister stationeth herself afar off, to know what is done to him.
[5]And the daughterH1323 of PharaohH6547 came downH3381[H8799] to washH7364[H8800] herself at the riverH2975; and her maidensH5291 walkedH1980[H8802] along by the river'sH2975 sideH3027; and when she sawH7200[H8799] the arkH8392 amongH8432 the flagsH5488, she sentH7971[H8799] her maidH519 to fetchH3947 itH8799. [5]And a daughter of Pharaoh cometh down to bathe at the River, and her damsels are walking by the side of the River, and she seeth the ark in the midst of the weeds, and sendeth her handmaid, and she taketh it,
[6]And when she had openedH6605[H8799] it, she sawH7200[H8799] the childH3206: and, behold, the babeH5288 weptH1058[H8802]. And she had compassionH2550[H8799] on him, and saidH559[H8799], This is one of the Hebrews'H5680 childrenH3206. [6]and openeth, and seeth him -- the lad, and lo, a child weeping! and she hath pity on him, and saith, `This is [one] of the Hebrews' children.'
[7]Then saidH559[H8799] his sisterH269 to Pharaoh'sH6547 daughterH1323, Shall I goH3212[H8799] and callH7121[H8804] to thee a nurseH3243[H8688] of the HebrewH5680 womenH802, that she may nurseH3243[H8686] the child for theeH3206? [7]And his sister saith unto the daughter of Pharaoh, `Do I go? when I have called for thee a suckling woman of the Hebrews, then she doth suckle the lad for thee;'
[8]And Pharaoh'sH6547 daughterH1323 saidH559[H8799] to her, GoH3212[H8798]. And the maidH5959 wentH3212[H8799] and calledH7121[H8799] the child'sH3206 motherH517. [8]and the daughter of Pharaoh saith to her, `Go;' and the virgin goeth, and calleth the mother of the lad,
[9]And Pharaoh'sH6547 daughterH1323 saidH559[H8799] unto her, TakeH3212 this childH3206 awayH3212[H8685], and nurseH3243[H8685] it for me, and I will giveH5414[H8799] thee thy wagesH7939. And the womanH802 tookH3947[H8799] the childH3206, and nursedH5134 itH8686. [9]and the daughter of Pharaoh saith to her, `Take this lad away, and suckle him for me, and I -- I give thy hire;' and the woman taketh the lad, and suckleth him.
[10]And the childH3206 grewH1431[H8799], and she broughtH935[H8686] him unto Pharaoh'sH6547 daughterH1323, and he became her sonH1121. And she calledH7121[H8799] his nameH8034 MosesH4872: and she saidH559[H8799], Because I drewH4871[H8804] him out of the waterH4325. [10]And the lad groweth, and she bringeth him in to the daughter of Pharaoh, and he is to her for a son, and she calleth his name Moses, and saith, `Because -- from the water I have drawn him.'
[11]And it came to pass in those daysH3117, when MosesH4872 was grownH1431[H8799], that he went outH3318[H8799] unto his brethrenH251, and lookedH7200[H8799] on their burdensH5450: and he spiedH7200[H8799] an EgyptianH4713[H376] smitingH5221[H8688] an HebrewH5680, one of his brethrenH251. [11]And it cometh to pass, in those days, that Moses is grown, and he goeth out unto his brethren, and looketh on their burdens, and seeth a man, an Egyptian, smiting a man, a Hebrew, [one] of his brethren,
[12]And he lookedH6437[H8799] this wayH3541 and that wayH3541, and when he sawH7200[H8799] that there was no manH376, he slewH5221[H8686] the EgyptianH4713, and hidH2934[H8799] him in the sandH2344. [12]and he turneth hither and thither, and seeth that there is no man, and smiteth the Egyptian, and hideth him in the sand.
[13]And when he went outH3318[H8799] the secondH8145 dayH3117, behold, twoH8147 menH582 of the HebrewsH5680 stroveH5327[H8737] together: and he saidH559[H8799] to him that did the wrongH7563, Wherefore smitestH5221[H8686] thou thy fellowH7453? [13]And he goeth out on the second day, and lo, two men, Hebrews, striving! and he saith to the wrong-doer, `Why dost thou smite thy neighbour?'
[14]And he saidH559[H8799], Who madeH7760[H8804] theeH376 a princeH8269 and a judgeH8199[H8802] over us? intendestH559[H8802] thou to killH2026[H8800] me, as thou killedstH2026[H8804] the EgyptianH4713? And MosesH4872 fearedH3372[H8799], and saidH559[H8799], SurelyH403 this thingH1697 is knownH3045.[H8738] [14]and he saith, `Who set thee for a head and a judge over us? to slay me art thou saying [it], as thou hast slain the Egyptian?' and Moses feareth, and saith, `Surely the thing hath been known.'
[15]Now when PharaohH6547 heardH8085[H8799] this thingH1697, he soughtH1245[H8762] to slayH2026[H8800] MosesH4872. But MosesH4872 fledH1272[H8799] from the faceH6440 of PharaohH6547, and dweltH3427[H8799] in the landH776 of MidianH4080: and he sat downH3427[H8799] by a wellH875. [15]And Pharaoh heareth of this thing, and seeketh to slay Moses, and Moses fleeth from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelleth in the land of Midian, and dwelleth by the well.
[16]Now the priestH3548 of MidianH4080 had sevenH7651 daughtersH1323: and they cameH935[H8799] and drewH1802[H8799] water, and filledH4390[H8762] the troughsH7298 to waterH8248[H8687] their father'sH1 flockH6629. [16]And to a priest of Midian [are] seven daughters, and they come and draw, and fill the troughs, to water the flock of their father,
[17]And the shepherdsH7462[H8802] cameH935[H8799] and drove them awayH1644[H8762]: but MosesH4872 stood upH6965[H8799] and helpedH3467[H8686] them, and wateredH8248[H8686] their flockH6629. [17]and the shepherds come and drive them away, and Moses ariseth, and saveth them, and watereth their flock.
[18]And when they cameH935[H8799] to ReuelH7467 their fatherH1, he saidH559[H8799], HowH4069 is it that ye are comeH935[H8800] so soonH4116[H8765] to dayH3117? [18]And they come in to Reuel their father, and he saith, `Wherefore have ye hastened to come in to-day?'
[19]And they saidH559[H8799], An EgyptianH4713[H376] deliveredH5337[H8689] us out of the handH3027 of the shepherdsH7462[H8802], and also drewH1802[H8804] water enoughH1802[H8800] for us, and wateredH8248[H8686] the flockH6629. [19]and they say, `A man, an Egyptian, hath delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also hath diligently drawn for us, and watereth the flock;'
[20]And he saidH559[H8799] unto his daughtersH1323, And where is he? why is it that ye have leftH5800[H8804] the manH376? callH7121[H8798] him, that he may eatH398[H8799] breadH3899. [20]and he saith unto his daughters, `And where [is] he? why [is] this? -- ye left the man! call for him, and he doth eat bread.'
[21]And MosesH4872 was contentH2974[H8686] to dwellH3427[H8800] with the manH376: and he gaveH5414[H8799] MosesH4872 ZipporahH6855 his daughterH1323. [21]And Moses is willing to dwell with the man, and he giveth Zipporah his daughter to Moses,
[22]And she bareH3205[H8799] him a sonH1121, and he calledH7121[H8799] his nameH8034 GershomH1647: for he saidH559[H8804], I have been a strangerH1616 in a strangeH5237 landH776. [22]and she beareth a son, and he calleth his name Gershom, for he said, `A sojourner I have been in a strange land.'
[23]And it came to pass in processH1992[H7227] of timeH3117, that the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 diedH4191[H8799]: and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 sighedH584[H8735] by reason ofH4480 the bondageH5656, and they criedH2199[H8799], and their cryH7775 came upH5927[H8799] unto GodH430 by reason of the bondageH5656. [23]And it cometh to pass during these many days, that the king of Egypt dieth, and the sons of Israel sigh because of the service, and cry, and their cry goeth up unto God, because of the service;
[24]And GodH430 heardH8085[H8799] their groaningH5009, and GodH430 rememberedH2142[H8799] his covenantH1285 with AbrahamH85, with IsaacH3327, and with JacobH3290. [24]and God heareth their groaning, and God remembereth His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob;
[25]And GodH430 lookedH7200[H8799] upon the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and GodH430 had respectH3045 unto themH8799. [25]and God seeth the sons of Israel, and God knoweth.
