| [2]What mean ye, that ye useH4911[H8802] this proverbH4912 concerning the landH127 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559[H8800], The fathersH1 have eatenH398[H8799] sour grapesH1155, and the children'sH1121 teethH8127 are set on edgeH6949?[H8799] |
[2]What mean ye that ye speak this proverb, concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge? |
| [3]As I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, ye shall not have occasion any more to useH4911[H8800] this proverbH4912 in IsraelH3478. |
[3]As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall use this proverb no more in Israel. |
| [4]Behold, all soulsH5315 are mine; as the soulH5315 of the fatherH1, so also the soulH5315 of the sonH1121 is mine: the soulH5315 that sinnethH2398[H8802], it shall dieH4191.[H8799] |
[4]Behold, all souls are mine, both the soul of the father, and also the soul of the son are mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. |
| [5]But if a manH376 be justH6662, and doH6213[H8804] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666, |
[5]But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful, and right, |
| [6]And hath not eatenH398[H8804] upon the mountainsH2022, neither hath lifted upH5375[H8804] his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, neither hath defiledH2930[H8765] his neighbour'sH7453 wifeH802, neither hath come nearH7126[H8799] to a menstruousH5079 womanH802, |
[6]And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbor's wife, neither hath lain with a menstruous woman, |
| [7]And hath not oppressedH3238[H8686] anyH376, but hath restoredH7725[H8686] to the debtorH2326 his pledgeH2258, hath spoiledH1497[H8799] none by violenceH1500, hath givenH5414[H8799] his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and hath coveredH3680[H8762] the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899; |
[7]Neither hath oppressed any, but hath restored the pledge to his debtor: he that hath spoiled none by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment, |
| [8]He that hath not given forthH5414[H8799] upon usuryH5392, neither hath takenH3947[H8799] any increaseH8636, that hath withdrawnH7725[H8686] his handH3027 from iniquityH5766, hath executedH6213[H8799] trueH571 judgmentH4941 between manH376 and manH376, |
[8]And hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, but hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, and hath executed true judgment between man and man, |
| [9]Hath walkedH1980[H8762] in my statutesH2708, and hath keptH8104[H8804] my judgmentsH4941, to dealH6213[H8800] trulyH571; he is justH6662, he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421[H8799], saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. |
[9]And hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments to deal truly, he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God. |
| [10]If he begetH3205[H8689] a sonH1121 that is a robberH6530, a shedderH8210[H8802] of bloodH1818, and that doethH6213[H8804] the likeH251 to any one of these thingsH259, |
[10]If he begets a son, that is a thief, or a shedder of blood, if he do any one of these things, |
| [11]And that doethH6213[H8804] not any of those duties, but even hath eatenH398[H8804] upon the mountainsH2022, and defiledH2930[H8765] his neighbour'sH7453 wifeH802, |
[11]Though he do not all these things, but either hath eaten upon the mountains, or defiled his neighbor's wife, |
| [12]Hath oppressedH3238[H8689] the poorH6041 and needyH34, hath spoiledH1497[H8804] by violenceH1500, hath not restoredH7725[H8686] the pledgeH2258, and hath lifted upH5375[H8804] his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544, hath committedH6213[H8804] abominationH8441, |
[12]Or hath oppressed the poor and needy, or hath spoiled by violence, or hath not restored the pledge, or hath lift up his eyes unto the idols, or hath committed abomination, |
| [13]Hath given forthH5414[H8804] upon usuryH5392, and hath takenH3947[H8804] increaseH8636: shall he then liveH2425[H8804]? he shall not liveH2421[H8799]: he hath doneH6213[H8804] all these abominationsH8441; he shall surelyH4191[H8800] dieH4191[H8714]; his blood shall be upon himH1818. |
[13]Or hath given forth upon usury, or hath taken increase, shall he live? He shall not live: seeing he hath done all these abominations, he shall die the death, and his blood shall be upon him. |
| [14]Now, lo, if he begetH3205[H8689] a sonH1121, that seethH7200[H8799] all his father'sH1 sinsH2403 which he hath doneH6213[H8804], and considerethH7200[H8799], and doethH6213[H8799] not such likeH2004, |
[14]But if he begets a son, that seeth all his father's sins, which he hath done, and feareth, neither doeth such like, |
| [15]That hath not eatenH398[H8804] upon the mountainsH2022, neither hath lifted upH5375[H8804] his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, hath not defiledH2930[H8765] his neighbour'sH7453 wifeH802, |
[15]That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, nor hath defiled his neighbor's wife, |
| [16]Neither hath oppressedH3238[H8689] anyH376, hath not withholdenH2254[H8804] the pledgeH2258, neither hath spoiledH1497[H8804] by violenceH1500, but hath givenH5414[H8804] his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and hath coveredH3680[H8765] the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899, |
[16]Neither hath oppressed any, nor hath withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment, |
| [17]That hath taken offH7725[H8689] his handH3027 from the poorH6041, that hath not receivedH3947[H8804] usuryH5392 nor increaseH8636, hath executedH6213[H8804] my judgmentsH4941, hath walkedH1980[H8804] in my statutesH2708; he shall not dieH4191[H8799] for the iniquityH5771 of his fatherH1, he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421.[H8799] |
[17]Neither hath withdrawn his hand from the afflicted, nor received usury nor increase, but hath executed my judgments, and hath walked in my statutes, he shall not die in the iniquity of his father, but he shall surely live. |
| [18]As for his fatherH1, because he cruellyH6233 oppressedH6231[H8804], spoiledH1497[H8804] his brotherH251 by violenceH1499, and didH6213[H8804] that which is not goodH2896 amongH8432 his peopleH5971, lo, even he shall dieH4191[H8801] in his iniquityH5771. |
[18]His father, because he cruelly oppressed and spoiled his brother by violence, and hath not done good among his people, lo, even he dieth in his iniquity. |
| [19]Yet sayH559[H8804] ye, Why? doth not the sonH1121 bearH5375[H8804] the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1? When the sonH1121 hath doneH6213[H8804] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666, and hath keptH8104[H8804] all my statutesH2708, and hath doneH6213[H8799] them, he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421.[H8799] |
[19]Yet say ye, Wherefore shall not the son bear the iniquity of the father? Because the son hath executed judgment and justice, and hath kept all my statutes, and done them, he shall surely live, |
| [20]The soulH5315 that sinnethH2398[H8802], it shall dieH4191[H8799]. The sonH1121 shall not bearH5375[H8799] the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1, neither shall the fatherH1 bearH5375[H8799] the iniquityH5771 of the sonH1121: the righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 shall be upon him, and the wickednessH7564 of the wicked shall be upon himH7563. |
[20]The same soul that sinneth, shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son, but the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. |
| [21]But if the wickedH7563 will turnH7725[H8799] from all his sinsH2403 that he hath committedH6213[H8804], and keepH8104[H8804] all my statutesH2708, and doH6213[H8804] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666, he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421[H8799], he shall not dieH4191.[H8799] |
[21]But if the wicked will return from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, and shall not die. |
| [22]All his transgressionsH6588 that he hath committedH6213[H8804], they shall not be mentionedH2142[H8735] unto him: in his righteousnessH6666 that he hath doneH6213[H8804] he shall liveH2421.[H8799] |
[22]All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him, but in his righteousness that he hath done, he shall live. |
| [23]Have I any pleasureH2654[H8799] at allH2654[H8800] that the wickedH7563 should dieH4194? saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069: and not that he should returnH7725[H8800] from his waysH1870, and liveH2421?[H8804] |
[23]Have I any desire that the wicked should die, saith the Lord God? Or shall he not live, if he return from his ways? |
| [24]But when the righteousH6662 turneth awayH7725[H8800] from his righteousnessH6666, and committethH6213[H8804] iniquityH5766, and doethH6213[H8799] according to all the abominationsH8441 that the wickedH7563 man doethH6213[H8804], shall he liveH2425[H8804]? All his righteousnessH6666 that he hath doneH6213[H8804] shall not be mentionedH2142[H8735]: in his trespassH4603[H8804] that he hath trespassedH4604, and in his sinH2403 that he hath sinnedH2398[H8804], in them shall he dieH4191.[H8799] |
[24]But if the righteous turn away from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and do according to all the abominations, that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: but in his transgression that he hath committed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. |
| [25]Yet ye sayH559[H8804], The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equalH8505[H8735]. HearH8085[H8798] now, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; Is not my wayH1870 equalH8505[H8735]? are not your waysH1870 unequalH8505?[H8735] |
[25]Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal: hear now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equal? Or are not your ways unequal? |
| [26]When a righteousH6662 man turneth awayH7725[H8800] from his righteousnessH6666, and committethH6213[H8804] iniquityH5766, and diethH4191[H8804] in them; for his iniquityH5766 that he hath doneH6213[H8804] shall he dieH4191.[H8799] |
[26]For when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die for the same, he shall even die for his iniquity that he hath done. |
| [27]Again, when the wickedH7563 man turneth awayH7725[H8800] from his wickednessH7564 that he hath committedH6213[H8804], and doethH6213[H8799] that which is lawfulH4941 and rightH6666, he shall saveH2421 his soulH5315 aliveH2421.[H8762] |
[27]Again when the wicked turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. |
| [28]Because he considerethH7200[H8799], and turneth awayH7725[H8799] from all his transgressionsH6588 that he hath committedH6213[H8804], he shall surelyH2421[H8800] liveH2421[H8799], he shall not dieH4191.[H8799] |
[28]Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live and shall not die. |
| [29]Yet saithH559[H8804] the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equalH8505[H8735]. O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, are not my waysH1870 equalH8505[H8735]? are not your waysH1870 unequalH8505?[H8735] |
[29]Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? Or are not your ways unequal? |
| [30]Therefore I will judgeH8199[H8799] you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, every oneH376 according to his waysH1870, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. RepentH7725[H8798], and turnH7725[H8685] yourselves from all your transgressionsH6588; so iniquityH5771 shall not be your ruinH4383. |
[30]Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God: return therefore and cause others to turn away from all your transgressions: so iniquity shall not be your destruction. |
| [31]Cast awayH7993[H8685] from you all your transgressionsH6588, whereby ye have transgressedH6586[H8804]; and makeH6213[H8798] you a newH2319 heartH3820 and a newH2319 spiritH7307: for why will ye dieH4191[H8799], O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? |
[31]Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed, and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? |
| [32]For I have no pleasureH2654[H8799] in the deathH4194 of him that diethH4191[H8801], saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069: wherefore turnH7725[H8685] yourselves, and liveH2421 yeH8798. |
[32]For I desire not the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: cause therefore one another to return, and live ye. |
