| [1]Then came Joseph and told Pharaoh, and said, My father, and my brethren, and their sheep, and their cattle, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan, and behold, they are in the land of Goshen. |
[1]ויבא יוסף ויגד לפרעה ויאמר אבי ואחי וצאנם ובקרם וכל אשר להם באו מארץ כנען והנם בארץ גשן |
| [2]And Joseph took part of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh. |
[2]ומקצה אחיו לקח חמשה אנשים ויצגם לפני פרעה |
| [3]Then Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your trade? And they answered Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we and our fathers. |
[3]ויאמר פרעה אל אחיו מה מעשיכם ויאמרו אל פרעה רעה צאן עבדיך־גם אנחנו גם אבותינו |
| [4]They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come: for thy servants have no pasture for their sheep, so sore is the famine in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen. |
[4]ויאמרו אל פרעה לגור בארץ באנו כי אין מרעה לצאן אשר לעבדיך כי כבד הרעב בארץ כנען ועתה ישבו נא עבדיך בארץ גשן |
| [5]Then spake Pharaoh to Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee. |
[5]ויאמר פרעה אל יוסף לאמר אביך ואחיך באו אליך |
| [6]The land of Egypt is before thee: in the best place of the land make thy father and thy brethren dwell: let them dwell in the land of Goshen: and if thou knowest that there be men of activity among them, make them rulers over my cattle. |
[6]ארץ מצרים לפניך הוא־במיטב הארץ הושב את אביך ואת אחיך ישבו בארץ גשן־ואם ידעת ויש בם אנשי חיל ושמתם שרי מקנה על אשר לי |
| [7]Joseph also brought Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh. And Jacob saluted Pharaoh. |
[7]ויבא יוסף את יעקב אביו ויעמדהו לפני פרעה ויברך יעקב את פרעה |
| [8]Then Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou? |
[8]ויאמר פרעה אל יעקב כמה ימי שני חייך |
| [9]And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The whole time of my pilgrimage is an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of my life been, and I have not attained unto the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their pilgrimages. |
[9]ויאמר יעקב אל פרעה ימי שני מגורי שלשים ומאת שנה מעט ורעים היו ימי שני חיי ולא השיגו את ימי שני חיי אבתי בימי מגוריהם |
| [10]And Jacob took leave of Pharaoh, and departed from the presence of Pharaoh. |
[10]ויברך יעקב את פרעה ויצא מלפני פרעה |
| [11]And Joseph placed his father, and his brethren, and gave them possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, even in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. |
[11]ויושב יוסף את אביו ואת אחיו ויתן להם אחזה בארץ מצרים במיטב הארץ בארץ רעמסס־כאשר צוה פרעה |
| [12]And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household with bread, even to the young children. |
[12]ויכלכל יוסף את אביו ואת אחיו ואת כל בית אביו־לחם לפי הטף |
| [13]Now there was no bread in all the land: for the famine was exceeding sore: so that the land of Egypt, and the land of Canaan were famished by the reason of the famine. |
[13]ולחם אין בכל הארץ כי כבד הרעב מאד ותלה ארץ מצרים וארץ כנען מפני הרעב |
| [14]And Joseph gathered all the money, that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought, and Joseph laid up the money in Pharaoh's house. |
[14]וילקט יוסף את כל הכסף הנמצא בארץ מצרים ובארץ כנען בשבר אשר הם שברים ויבא יוסף את הכסף ביתה פרעה |
| [15]So when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, then all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die before thee? For our money is spent. |
[15]ויתם הכסף מארץ מצרים ומארץ כנען ויבאו כל מצרים אל יוסף לאמר הבה לנו לחם ולמה נמות נגדך כי אפס כסף |
| [16]Then said Joseph, Bring your cattle, and I will give you for your cattle, if your money be spent. |
[16]ויאמר יוסף הבו מקניכם ואתנה לכם במקניכם־אם אפס כסף |
| [17]So they brought their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread for the horses, and for the flocks of sheep, and for the herds of cattle, and for the asses: so he fed them with bread for all their cattle that year. |
[17]ויביאו את מקניהם אל יוסף ויתן להם יוסף לחם בסוסים ובמקנה הצאן ובמקנה הבקר ובחמרים וינהלם בלחם בכל מקנהם בשנה ההוא |
| [18]But when the year was ended, they came unto him the next year, and said unto him, We will not hide from my lord, that since our money is spent, and my lord hath the herds of the cattle, there is nothing left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies and our ground. |
[18]ותתם השנה ההוא ויבאו אליו בשנה השנית ויאמרו לו לא נכחד מאדני כי אם תם הכסף ומקנה הבהמה אל אדני לא נשאר לפני אדני בלתי אם גויתנו ואדמתנו |
| [19]Why shall we perish in thy sight, both we, and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be bond to Pharaoh: therefore give us seed, that we may live and not die, and that the land go not to waste. |
[19]למה נמות לעיניך גם אנחנו גם אדמתנו־קנה אתנו ואת אדמתנו בלחם ונהיה אנחנו ואדמתנו עבדים לפרעה ותן זרע ונחיה ולא נמות והאדמה לא תשם |
| [20]So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh: for the Egyptians sold every man his ground because the famine was sore upon them: so the land became Pharaoh's. |
[20]ויקן יוסף את כל אדמת מצרים לפרעה כי מכרו מצרים איש שדהו כי חזק עלהם הרעב ותהי הארץ לפרעה |
| [21]And he removed the people unto the cities, from one side of Egypt even to the other. |
[21]ואת העם־העביר אתו לערים מקצה גבול מצרים ועד קצהו |
| [22]Only the land of the priests bought he not: for the priests had an ordinary of Pharaoh, and they did eat their ordinary, which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their ground. |
[22]רק אדמת הכהנים לא קנה כי חק לכהנים מאת פרעה ואכלו את חקם אשר נתן להם פרעה־על כן לא מכרו את אדמתם |
| [23]Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day, and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you: sow therefore the ground. |
[23]ויאמר יוסף אל העם הן קניתי אתכם היום ואת אדמתכם לפרעה הא לכם זרע וזרעתם את האדמה |
| [24]And of the increase ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be yours for the seed of the field, and for your meat, and for them of your households, and for your children to eat. |
[24]והיה בתבואת ונתתם חמישית לפרעה וארבע הידת יהיה לכם לזרע השדה ולאכלכם ולאשר בבתיכם־ולאכל לטפכם |
| [25]Then they answered, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my Lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants. |
[25]ויאמרו החיתנו נמצא חן בעיני אדני והיינו עבדים לפרעה |
| [26]Then Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the priests only, which was not Pharaoh's. |
[26]וישם אתה יוסף לחק עד היום הזה על אדמת מצרים לפרעה־לחמש רק אדמת הכהנים לבדם־לא היתה לפרעה |
| [27]And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen: and they had their possessions therein, and grew and multiplied exceedingly. |
[27]וישב ישראל בארץ מצרים בארץ גשן ויאחזו בה ויפרו וירבו מאד |
| [28]Moreover, Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years, so that the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven year. |
[28]ויחי יעקב בארץ מצרים שבע עשרה שנה ויהי ימי יעקב שני חייו־שבע שנים וארבעים ומאת שנה |
| [29]Now when the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If I have now found grace in thy sight, put thine hand now under my thigh, and deal mercifully and truly with me: bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt. |
[29]ויקרבו ימי ישראל למות ויקרא לבנו ליוסף ויאמר לו אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך שים נא ידך תחת ירכי ועשית עמדי חסד ואמת אל נא תקברני במצרים |
| [30]But when I shall sleep with my fathers, thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burial. And he answered, I will do as thou hast said. |
[30]ושכבתי עם אבתי ונשאתני ממצרים וקברתני בקברתם ויאמר אנכי אעשה כדברך |
| [31]Then he said, Swear unto me. And he swear unto him. And Israel worshiped towards the bed's head. |
[31]ויאמר השבעה לי־וישבע לו וישתחו ישראל על ראש המטה |
