[1]For this Melchisedech kyng of Salem, priest of the most hye God, who met Abraham returnyng from the slaughter of the kynges, and blessed hym [1]ForG1063 thisG3778 MelchisedecG3198, kingG935 of SalemG4532, priestG2409 of the most highG5310 GodG2316, whoG3588 metG4876[G5660] AbrahamG11 returningG5290[G5723] fromG575 the slaughterG2871 of the kingsG935, andG2532 blessedG2127[G5660] himG846;
[2]To whom also Abraham gaue tythe of all thynges, first being called by interpretatio king of righteousnes, & after yt also, kyng of Salem, which is, kyng of peace [2]To whomG3739 alsoG2532 AbrahamG11 gaveG3307[G5656] a tenth partG1181 ofG575 allG3956; firstG4412[G3303] being by interpretationG2059[G5746] KingG935 of righteousnessG1343, andG1161 after thatG1899 alsoG2532 KingG935 of SalemG4532, which isG3603[G5748], KingG935 of peaceG1515;
[3]Without father, without mother, without kynne, hauyng neither beginnyng of dayes, neither ende of lyfe, but lykened vnto the sonne of God, and continueth a priest for euer [3]Without fatherG540, without motherG282, without descentG35, havingG2192[G5723] neitherG3383 beginningG746 of daysG2250, norG3383 endG5056 of lifeG2222; butG1161 made likeG871[G5772] unto the SonG5207 of GodG2316; abidethG3306[G5719] a priestG2409 continuallyG1519.[G1336]
[4]Nowe consider howe great this [man] was, vnto whom also the patriarche Abraham gaue tythe of the spoyles [4]NowG1161 considerG2334[G5719] how greatG4080 this manG3778 was, unto whomG3739 evenG2532 the patriarchG3966 AbrahamG11 gaveG1325[G5656] the tenthG1181 ofG1537 the spoilsG205.
[5]And veryly they which are of the children of Leuie, which receaue the office of the priesthood, haue a commaundement to take tythe of the people accordyng to the lawe, that is, of their brethren, though they came out of ye loynes of Abraham [5]AndG2532 verilyG3303 they that are ofG1537 the sonsG5207 of LeviG3017, whoG3588 receiveG2983[G5723] the office of the priesthoodG2405, haveG2192[G5719] a commandmentG1785 to take tithesG586[G5721] of the peopleG2992 according toG2596 the lawG3551, that isG5123[G5748], of theirG846 brethrenG80, thoughG2539 they comeG1831[G5761] out ofG1537 the loinsG3751 of AbrahamG11:
[6]But he whose kynrede is not counted among them, receaued tythe of Abraham, and blessed hym that had the promises [6]ButG1161 he whose descent isG1075 notG3361 countedG1075[G5746] fromG1537 themG846 received tithesG1183[G5758] of AbrahamG11, andG2532 blessedG2127[G5758] him that hadG2192[G5723] the promisesG1860.
[7]And without all controuersie, the lesse is blessed of the better [7]AndG1161 withoutG5565 allG3956 contradictionG485 the lessG1640 is blessedG2127[G5743] ofG5259 the betterG2909.
[8]And here men that dye, receaue tithes: but there he [receaueth them] of whom it is witnessed that he lyueth [8]AndG2532 hereG5602[G3303] menG444 that dieG599[G5723] receiveG2983[G5719] tithesG1181; butG1161 thereG1563 he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessedG3140[G5746] thatG3754 he livethG2198.[G5719]
[9]And to say the trueth, Leuie also whiche receaueth tythes, payed tythes in Abraham [9]AndG2532 asG5613 I may so sayG2031[G2036][G5629], LeviG3017 alsoG2532, whoG3588 receivethG2983[G5723] tithesG1181, payed tithesG1183[G5769] inG1223 AbrahamG11.
[10]For he was yet in the loynes of his father, when Melchisedech met Abraham [10]ForG1063 he wasG2258[G5713] yetG2089 inG1722 the loinsG3751 of his fatherG3962, whenG3753 MelchisedecG3198 metG4876[G5656] himG846.
[11]If therefore perfection was by the priesthood of ye Leuites (For vnder that priesthood the people receaued the law) what neded it furthermore that another priest shoulde rise after the order of Melchisedech, and not to be called after the order of Aaron [11]IfG1487[G3303] thereforeG3767 perfectionG5050 wereG2258[G5713] byG1223 the LeviticalG3020 priesthoodG2420, (forG1063 underG1909 itG846 the peopleG2992 received the lawG3549[G5718],) whatG5101 furtherG2089 needG5532 was there that anotherG2087 priestG2409 should riseG450[G5733] afterG2596 the orderG5010 of MelchisedecG3198, andG2532 notG3756 be calledG3004[G5745] afterG2596 the orderG5010 of AaronG2?
[12]For yf the priesthood be translated, of necessitie also there is made a translation of the lawe [12]ForG1063 the priesthoodG2420 being changedG3346[G5746], there is madeG1096[G5736] ofG1537 necessityG318 a changeG3331 alsoG2532 of the lawG3551.
[13]For he of whom these thynges are spoken, parteyneth vnto another tribe, of which no man stoode at the aulter [13]ForG1063 he ofG1909 whomG3739 these thingsG5023 are spokenG3004[G5743] pertainethG3348[G5758] to anotherG2087 tribeG5443, ofG575 whichG3739 no manG3762 gave attendanceG4337[G5758] at the altarG2379.
[14]For it is euident that our Lord sprong out of Iuda, of which tribe spake Moyses nothyng concernyng priesthood [14]ForG1063 it is evidentG4271 thatG3754 ourG2257 LordG2962 sprangG393[G5758] out ofG1537 JudaG2455; ofG1519 whichG3739 tribeG5443 MosesG3475 spakeG2980[G5656] nothingG3762 concerningG4012 priesthoodG2420.
[15]And it is yet a farre more euidet thing, yf after the similitude of Melchisedech there aryse another priest [15]AndG2532 it isG2076[G5748] yetG2089 far moreG4054 evidentG2612: forG1487 that afterG2596 the similitudeG3665 of MelchisedecG3198 there arisethG450[G5731] anotherG2087 priestG2409,
[16]Which is not made after the lawe of the carnall commaundement, but after the power of the endlesse lyfe [16]WhoG3739 is madeG1096[G5754], notG3756 afterG2596 the lawG3551 of a carnalG4559 commandmentG1785, butG235 afterG2596 the powerG1411 of an endlessG179 lifeG2222.
[17]For he testifieth that thou art a priest for euer, after the order of Melchisedech [17]ForG1063 he testifiethG3140[G5719],[G3754] ThouG4771 art a priestG2409 forG1519 everG165 afterG2596 the orderG5010 of MelchisedecG3198.
[18]For there is truely a disanulling of the commaundement goyng before, for the weakenesse and vnprofitablenesse therof [18]ForG1063 there isG1096[G5736] verilyG3303 a disannullingG115 of the commandmentG1785 going beforeG4254[G5723] forG1223 the weaknessG772 andG2532 unprofitablenessG512 thereofG846.
[19]For the lawe made nothyng perfect, but [was] the bryngyng in of a better hope, by the whiche we drawe nygh vnto God [19]ForG1063 the lawG3551 madeG5048 nothingG3762 perfectG5048[G5656], butG1161 the bringing inG1898 of a betterG2909 hopeG1680 did; byG1223 the whichG3739 we draw nighG1448[G5719] unto GodG2316.
[20]And in as much as that was not without an oth (For those priestes were made without an oth [20]AndG2532 inasmuch asG2596[G3745] notG3756 withoutG5565 an oath he was made priestG3728:
[21]But this priest with an oth, by hym that saide vnto him: The Lord sware and wyll not repent, thou art a priest for euer, after the order of Melchisedech. [21](ForG1063 those priestsG2409 wereG3303[G1526][G5748] madeG1096[G5756] withoutG5565 an oathG3728; butG1161 this withG3326 an oathG3728 byG1223 him that saidG3004[G5723] untoG4314 himG846, The LordG2962 swareG3660[G5656] andG2532 willG3338 notG3756 repentG3338[G5700], ThouG4771 art a priestG2409 forG1519 everG165 afterG2596 the orderG5010 of MelchisedecG3198:)
[22]By so much was Iesus made a suertie of a better testament [22]ByG2596 so muchG5118 wasG1096 JesusG2424 madeG1096[G5754] a suretyG1450 of a betterG2909 testamentG1242.
[23]And among them many were made priestes, because they were forbidden by death to endure [23]AndG2532 theyG1526 trulyG3303 wereG1526[G5748][G1096][G5756] manyG4119 priestsG2409, because they were not sufferedG2967[G5745] to continueG3887[G5721] by reason ofG1223 deathG2288:
[24]But this man, because he endureth euer, hath an vnchaungeable priesthood [24]ButG1161 this man, becauseG1223 heG846 continuethG3306[G5721] everG1519[G165], hathG2192[G5719] an unchangeableG531 priesthoodG2420.
[25]Wherefore he is able also euer to saue them to the vttermost that come vnto God by hym, seyng he euer lyueth to make intercession for them [25]WhereforeG3606 he is ableG1410[G5736] alsoG2532 to save themG4982[G5721] toG1519 the uttermostG3838 that comeG4334[G5740] unto GodG2316 byG1223 himG846, seeing he everG3842 livethG2198[G5723] toG1519 make intercessionG1793[G5721] forG5228 themG846.
[26]For such an hye priest became vs, whiche [is] holy, harmelesse, vndefyled, seperate from sinners, and made hygher then heauens [26]ForG1063 suchG5108 an high priestG749 becameG4241[G5707] usG2254, who is holyG3741, harmlessG172, undefiledG283, separateG5563[G5772] fromG575 sinnersG268, andG2532 madeG1096[G5637] higher thanG5308 the heavensG3772;
[27]Whiche nedeth not dayly, as those hie priestes, to offer vp sacrifice, first for his owne sinnes, and then for the peoples: for that dyd he once, when he offered vp hym selfe [27]WhoG3739 needethG2192[G5719][G318] notG3756 dailyG2596[G2250], asG5618 those high priestsG749, to offer upG399[G5721] sacrificeG2378, firstG4386 forG5228 his ownG2398 sinsG266, and thenG1899 for the people'sG2992: forG1063 thisG5124 he didG4160[G5656] onceG2178, when he offered upG399[G5660] himselfG1438.
[28]For the lawe maketh men hye priestes which haue infirmitie: but the word of the oth which (was) after the lawe (maketh) the sonne, whiche is perfecte for euermore [28]ForG1063 the lawG3551 makethG2525[G5719] menG444 high priestsG749 which haveG2192[G5723] infirmityG769; butG1161 the wordG3056 of the oathG3728, whichG3588 was sinceG3326 the lawG3551, maketh the SonG5207, who is consecratedG5048[G5772] forG1519 evermoreG165.
