The King James Version (w/Strong's)
KJV+
[1]And it came to pass, when king Ezekias heard it, that he rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth, and went up to the house of the Lord. [1]And it came to pass, when kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 heardH8085[H8800] it, that he rentH7167[H8799] his clothesH899, and coveredH3680[H8691] himself with sackclothH8242, and wentH935[H8799] into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068.
[2]And he sent Heliakim the steward, and Somnas the scribe, and the elders of the priests clothed with sackcloth, to Esaias the son of Amos, the prophet. And they said to him, Thus says Ezekias, [2]And he sentH7971[H8799] EliakimH471, who was over the householdH1004, and ShebnaH7644 the scribeH5608[H8802], and the eldersH2205 of the priestsH3548 coveredH3680[H8693] with sackclothH8242, unto IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of AmozH531.
[3]To-day is a day of affliction, and reproach, and rebuke, and anger: for the pangs are come upon the travailing woman, but she has not strength to bring forth. [3]And they saidH559[H8799] unto him, Thus saithH559[H8804] HezekiahH2396, This dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of troubleH6869, and of rebukeH8433, and of blasphemyH5007: for the childrenH1121 are comeH935[H8804] to the birthH4866, and there is not strengthH3581 to bring forthH3205.[H8800]
[4]May the Lord thy God hear the words of Rabsaces, which the king of the Assyrians has sent, to reproach the living God, even to reproach with the words which the Lord thy God has heard: therefore thou shalt pray to thy Lord for these that are left. [4]It may be the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 will hearH8085[H8799] the wordsH1697 of RabshakehH7262, whom the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 his masterH113 hath sentH7971[H8804] to reproachH2778[H8763] the livingH2416 GodH430, and will reproveH3198[H8689] the wordsH1697 which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath heardH8085[H8804]: wherefore lift upH5375[H8804] thy prayerH8605 for the remnantH7611 that is leftH4672.[H8737]
[5]So the servants of king Ezekias came to Esaias. [5]So the servantsH5650 of kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 cameH935[H8799] to IsaiahH3470.
[6]And Esaias said to them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not thou afraid at the words which thou hast heard, wherewith the ambassadors of the king of the Assyrians have reproached me, [6]And IsaiahH3470 saidH559[H8799] unto them, Thus shall ye sayH559[H8799] unto your masterH113, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Be not afraidH3372[H8799] ofH6440 the wordsH1697 that thou hast heardH8085[H8804], wherewith the servantsH5288 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 have blasphemedH1442 meH8765.
[7]Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a report, and return to his own country, and he shall fall by the sword in his own land. [7]Behold, I will sendH5414[H8802] a blastH7307 upon him, and he shall hearH8085[H8804] a rumourH8052, and returnH7725[H8804] to his own landH776; and I will cause him to fallH5307[H8689] by the swordH2719 in his own landH776.
[8]So Rabsaces returned, and found the king of the Assyrians besieging Lobna: for he had heard that he had departed from Lachis. [8]So RabshakehH7262 returnedH7725[H8799], and foundH4672[H8799] the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 warringH3898[H8737] against LibnahH3841: for he had heardH8085[H8804] that he was departedH5265[H8804] from LachishH3923.
[9]And Tharaca king of the Ethiopians went forth to attack him. And when he heard it, he turned aside, and sent messengers to Ezekias, saying, [9]And he heardH8085[H8799] sayH559[H8800] concerning TirhakahH8640 kingH4428 of EthiopiaH3568, He is come forthH3318[H8804] to make warH3898[H8736] with thee. And when he heardH8085[H8799] it, he sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 to HezekiahH2396, sayingH559,[H8800]
[10]Thus shall ye say to Ezekias king of Judea, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians. [10]Thus shall ye speakH559[H8799] to HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559[H8800], Let not thy GodH430, in whom thou trustestH982[H8802], deceiveH5377[H8686] thee, sayingH559[H8800], JerusalemH3389 shall not be givenH5414[H8735] into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804.
[11]Hast thou not heard what the kings of the Assyrians have done, how they have destroyed the whole earth? and shalt thou be delivered? [11]Behold, thou hast heardH8085[H8804] what the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 have doneH6213[H8804] to all landsH776 by destroying them utterlyH2763[H8687]; and shalt thou be deliveredH5337?[H8735]
[12]Have the gods of the nations which my fathers destroyed delivered them, both Gozan, and Charrhan, and Rapheth, which are in the land of Theemath? [12]Have the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 deliveredH5337[H8689] them which my fathersH1 have destroyedH7843[H8689], as GozanH1470, and HaranH2771, and RezephH7530, and the childrenH1121 of EdenH5729 which were in TelassarH8515?
[13]Where are the kings of Emath? and where is the king of Arphath? and where is the king of the city of Eppharuaim, and of Anagugana? [13]Where is the kingH4428 of HamathH2574, and the kingH4428 of ArphadH774, and the kingH4428 of the cityH5892 of SepharvaimH5617, HenaH2012, and IvahH5755?
[14]And Ezekias received the letter from the messengers, and read it, and went up to the house of the Lord, and opened it before the Lord. [14]And HezekiahH2396 receivedH3947[H8799] the letterH5612 from the handH3027 of the messengersH4397, and readH7121[H8799] it: and HezekiahH2396 went upH5927[H8799] unto the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and spreadH6566[H8799] it beforeH6440 the LORDH3068.
[15]And Ezekias prayed to the Lord, saying, [15]And HezekiahH2396 prayedH6419[H8691] unto the LORDH3068, sayingH559,[H8800]
[16]O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, who sittest upon the cherubs, thou alone art the God of every kingdom of the world: thou hast made heaven and earth. [16]O LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, GodH430 of IsraelH3478, that dwellestH3427[H8802] between the cherubimsH3742, thou art the GodH430, even thou alone, of all the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776: thou hast madeH6213[H8804] heavenH8064 and earthH776.
[17]Incline thine ear, O Lord, hearken, O Lord; open thine eyes, O Lord, look, O Lord: and behold the words of Sennacherim, which he has sent to reproach the living God. [17]InclineH5186[H8685] thine earH241, O LORDH3068, and hearH8085[H8798]; openH6491[H8798] thine eyesH5869, O LORDH3068, and seeH7200[H8798]: and hearH8085[H8798] all the wordsH1697 of SennacheribH5576, which hath sentH7971[H8804] to reproachH2778[H8763] the livingH2416 GodH430.
[18]For of a truth, Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have laid waste the whole world, and the countries thereof, [18]Of a truthH551, LORDH3068, the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 have laid wasteH2717[H8689] all the nationsH776, and their countriesH776,
[19]and have cast their idols into the fire: for, they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; and they have cast them away. [19]And have castH5414[H8800] their godsH430 into the fireH784: for they were no godsH430, but the workH4639 of men'sH120 handsH3027, woodH6086 and stoneH68: therefore they have destroyedH6 themH8762.
[20]But now, O Lord our God, deliver us from his hands, that every kingdom of the earth may know that thou art God alone. [20]Now therefore, O LORDH3068 our GodH430, saveH3467[H8685] us from his handH3027, that all the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776 may knowH3045[H8799] that thou art the LORD, even thou onlyH3068.
[21]And Esaias the son of Amos was sent to Ezekias, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, I have heard thy prayer to me concerning Sennacherim king of the Assyrians. [21]Then IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of AmozH531 sentH7971[H8799] unto HezekiahH2396, sayingH559[H8800], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, Whereas thou hast prayedH6419[H8694] to me against SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804:
[22]This is the word which God has spoken concerning him; The virgin daughter of Sion has despised thee, and mocked thee; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at thee. [22]This is the wordH1697 which the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696[H8765] concerning him; The virginH1330, the daughterH1323 of ZionH6726, hath despisedH959[H8804] thee, and laughed thee to scornH3932;[H8804] the daughterH1323 of JerusalemH3389 hath shakenH5128[H8689] her headH7218 at theeH310.
[23]Whom hast thou reproached and provoked? and against whom hast thou lifted up thy voice? and hast thou not lifted up thine eyes on high against the Holy One of Israel? [23]Whom hast thou reproachedH2778[H8765] and blasphemedH1442[H8765]? and against whom hast thou exaltedH7311[H8689] thy voiceH6963, and lifted upH5375[H8799] thine eyesH5869 on highH4791? even against the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.
[24]For thou hast reproached the Lord by messengers; for thou hast said, With the multitude of chariots have I ascended to the height of mountains, and to the sides of Libanus; and I have cropped the height of his cedars and the beauty of his cypresses; and I entered into the height of the forest region: [24]ByH3027 thy servantsH5650 hast thou reproachedH2778[H8765] the LordH136, and hast saidH559[H8799], By the multitudeH7230 of my chariotsH7393 am I come upH5927[H8804] to the heightH4791 of the mountainsH2022, to the sidesH3411 of LebanonH3844; and I will cut downH3772[H8799] the tallH6967 cedarsH730 thereof, and the choiceH4005 fir treesH1265 thereof: and I will enterH935[H8799] into the heightH4791 of his borderH7093, and the forestH3293 of his CarmelH3760.
[25]and I have made a bridge, and dried up the waters, and every pool of water. [25]I have diggedH6979[H8804], and drunkH8354[H8804] waterH4325; and with the soleH3709 of my feetH6471 have I dried upH2717[H8686] all the riversH2975 of the besieged placesH4693.
[26]Hast thou not heard of these things which I did of old? I appointed them from ancient times; but now have I manifested my purpose of desolating nations in their strong holds, and them that dwell in strong cities. [26]Hast thou not heardH8085[H8804] long agoH7350, how I have doneH6213[H8804] it; and of ancientH6924 timesH3117, that I have formedH3335[H8804] it? now have I broughtH935[H8689] it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay wasteH7582[H8687] defencedH1219[H8803] citiesH5892 into ruinousH5327[H8737] heapsH1530.
[27]I weakened their hands, and they withered; and they became as dry grass on the house-tops, and as grass. [27]Therefore their inhabitantsH3427[H8802] were of smallH7116 powerH3027, they were dismayedH2865[H8804] and confoundedH954[H8804]: they were as the grassH6212 of the fieldH7704, and as the greenH3419 herbH1877, as the grassH2682 on the housetopsH1406, and as corn blastedH7709 beforeH6440 it be grown upH7054.
[28]But now I know thy rest, and thy going out, and thy coming in. [28]But I knowH3045[H8804] thy abodeH3427[H8800], and thy going outH3318[H8800], and thy coming inH935[H8800], and thy rageH7264 against meH8692.
[29]And thy wrath wherewith thou hast been enraged, and thy rancour has come up to me; therefore I will put a hook in thy nose, and a bit in thy lips, and will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest. [29]Because thy rageH7264[H8692] against me, and thy tumultH7600, is come upH5927[H8804] into mine earsH241, therefore will I putH7760[H8804] my hookH2397 in thy noseH639, and my bridleH4964 in thy lipsH8193, and I will turn thee backH7725[H8689] by the wayH1870 by which thou camestH935.[H8804]
[30]And this shall be a sign to thee, Eat this year what thou hast sown; and the second year that which is left: and the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. [30]And this shall be a signH226 unto thee, Ye shall eatH398[H8800] this yearH8141 such as growethH5599 of itself; and the secondH8145 yearH8141 that which springethH7823 of the same: and in the thirdH7992 yearH8141 sowH2232[H8798] ye, and reapH7114[H8798], and plantH5193[H8798] vineyardsH3754, and eatH398[H8798] the fruit thereofH6529.
[31]And they that are left in Judea shall take root downward, and bear fruit upward: [31]And the remnantH7604[H8737] that is escapedH6413 of the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 shall againH3254[H8804] take rootH8328 downwardH4295, and bearH6213[H8804] fruitH6529 upwardH4605:
[32]for out of Jerusalem there shall be a remnant, and the saved ones out of mount Sion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this. [32]For out of JerusalemH3389 shall go forthH3318[H8799] a remnantH7611, and they that escapeH6413 out of mountH2022 ZionH6726: the zealH7068 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 shall doH6213 thisH8799.
[33]Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of the Assyrians, He shall not enter into this city, nor cast a weapon against it, nor bring a shield against it, nor make a rampart round it. [33]Therefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 concerning the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, He shall not comeH935[H8799] into this cityH5892, nor shootH3384[H8686] an arrowH2671 there, nor come beforeH6923[H8762] it with shieldsH4043, nor castH8210[H8799] a bank against itH5550.
[34]But by the way by which he came, by it shall he return, and shall not enter into this city: thus saith the Lord. [34]By the wayH1870 that he cameH935[H8804], by the same shall he returnH7725[H8799], and shall not comeH935[H8799] into this cityH5892, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068.
[35]I will protect this city to save it for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake. [35]For I will defendH1598[H8804] this cityH5892 to saveH3467[H8687] it for mine own sake, and for my servantH5650 David's sakeH1732.
[36]And the angel of the Lord went forth, and slew out of the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand: and they arose in the morning and found all these bodies dead. [36]Then the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 went forthH3318[H8799], and smoteH5221[H8686] in the campH4264 of the AssyriansH804 a hundredH3967 and fourscoreH8084 and fiveH2568 thousandH505: and when they arose earlyH7925[H8686] in the morningH1242, behold, they were all deadH4191[H8801] corpsesH6297.
[37]And Sennacherim king of the Assyrians turned and departed, and dwelt in Nineve. [37]So SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 departedH5265[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] and returnedH7725[H8799], and dweltH3427[H8799] at NinevehH5210.
[38]And while he was worshipping Nasarach his country's god in the house, Adramelech and Sarasar his sons smote him with swords; and they escaped into Armenia: and Asordan his son reigned in his stead. [38]And it came to pass, as he was worshippingH7812[H8693] in the houseH1004 of NisrochH5268 his godH430, that AdrammelechH152 and SharezerH8272 his sonsH1121 smoteH5221[H8689] him with the swordH2719; and they escapedH4422[H8738] into the landH776 of ArmeniaH780: and EsarhaddonH634 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8799.
