[1]Now will I singH7891[H8799] to my wellbelovedH3039 a songH7892 of my belovedH1730 touching his vineyardH3754. My wellbelovedH3039 hath a vineyardH3754 in a very fruitfulH1121[H8081] hillH7161: [1]Let me sing of my well-beloved, a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. my well-beloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill;
[2]And he fencedH5823[H8762] it, and gathered out the stonesH5619[H8762] thereof, and plantedH5193[H8799] it with the choicest vineH8321, and builtH1129[H8799] a towerH4026 in the midstH8432 of it, and also madeH2672[H8804] a winepressH3342 therein: and he lookedH6960[H8762] that it should bring forthH6213[H8800] grapesH6025, and it brought forthH6213[H8799] wild grapesH891. [2]And he digged it, and cleared it of stones, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a vat therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
[3]And now, O inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of JerusalemH3389, and menH376 of JudahH3063, judgeH8199[H8798], I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyardH3754. [3]And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.
[4]What could have been doneH6213[H8800] more to my vineyardH3754, that I have not doneH6213[H8804] in it? whereforeH4069, when I lookedH6960[H8765] that it should bring forthH6213[H8800] grapesH6025, brought it forthH6213[H8799] wild grapesH891? [4]What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
[5]And now go to; I will tellH3045[H8686] you what I will doH6213[H8802] to my vineyardH3754: I will take awayH5493[H8687] the hedgeH4881 thereof, and it shall be eaten upH1197[H8763]; and break downH6555[H8800] the wallH1447 thereof, and it shall be trodden downH4823: [5]And now come, I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the fence thereof, and it shall be trodden down;
[6]And I will layH7896[H8799] it wasteH1326: it shall not be prunedH2168[H8735], nor diggedH5737[H8735]; but there shall come upH5927[H8804] briersH8068 and thornsH7898: I will also commandH6680[H8762] the cloudsH5645 that they rainH4305[H8687] no rain upon itH4306. [6]And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned nor hoed, but there shall come up briers and thorns; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
[7]For the vineyardH3754 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 is the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and the menH376 of JudahH3063 his pleasantH8191 plantH5194: and he lookedH6960[H8762] for judgmentH4941, but behold oppressionH4939; for righteousnessH6666, but behold a cryH6818. [7]For the vineyard of ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah the plant of His delight; and He looked for justice, but behold violence; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
[8]WoeH1945 unto them that joinH5060[H8688] houseH1004 to houseH1004, that layH7126[H8686] fieldH7704 to fieldH7704, till there be noH657 placeH4725, that they may be placedH3427[H8717] alone in the midstH7130 of the earthH776! [8]Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no room, and ye be made to dwell alone in the midst of the land!
[9]In mine earsH241 said the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, Of a truthH3808 manyH7227 housesH1004 shall be desolateH8047, even greatH1419 and fairH2896, without inhabitantH3427.[H8802] [9]In mine ears said ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts: of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.
[10]YeaH3588, tenH6235 acresH6776 of vineyardH3754 shall yieldH6213[H8799] oneH259 bathH1324, and the seedH2233 of an homerH2563 shall yieldH6213[H8799] an ephahH374. [10]For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of a homer shall yield an ephah.
[11]WoeH1945 unto them that rise up earlyH7925[H8688] in the morningH1242, that they may followH7291[H8799] strong drinkH7941; that continueH309[H8764] until nightH5399, till wineH3196 inflameH1814 themH8686! [11]Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them!
[12]And the harpH3658, and the violH5035, the tabretH8596, and pipeH2485, and wineH3196, are in their feastsH4960: but they regardH5027[H8686] not the workH6467 of the LORDH3068, neither considerH7200[H8804] the operationH4639 of his handsH3027. [12]And the harp and the psaltery, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are in their feasts; but they regard not the work of ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎, neither have they considered the operation of His hands.
[13]Therefore my peopleH5971 are gone into captivityH1540[H8804], because they have no knowledgeH1847: and their honourableH3519 menH4962 are famishedH7458, and their multitudeH1995 dried upH6704 with thirstH6772. [13]Therefore My people are gone into captivity, for want of knowledge; and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst.
[14]Therefore hellH7585 hath enlargedH7337[H8689] herselfH5315, and openedH6473[H8804] her mouthH6310 without measureH2706: and their gloryH1926, and their multitudeH1995, and their pompH7588, and he that rejoicethH5938, shall descendH3381 into itH8804. [14]Therefore the nether-world hath enlarged her desire, and opened her mouth without measure; and down goeth their glory, and their tumult, and their uproar, and he that rejoiceth among them.
[15]And the mean manH120 shall be brought downH7817[H8735], and the mighty manH376 shall be humbledH8213[H8799], and the eyesH5869 of the loftyH1364 shall be humbledH8213:[H8799] [15]And man is bowed down, and man is humbled, and the eyes of the lofty are humbled;
[16]But the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 shall be exaltedH1361[H8799] in judgmentH4941, and GodH410 that is holyH6918 shall be sanctifiedH6942[H8738] in righteousnessH6666. [16]But ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts is exalted through justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified through righteousness.
[17]Then shall the lambsH3532 feedH7462[H8804] after their mannerH1699, and the waste placesH2723 of the fat onesH4220 shall strangersH1481[H8802] eatH398.[H8799] [17]Then shall the lambs feed as in their pasture, and the waste places of the fat ones shall wanderers eat.
[18]WoeH1945 unto them that drawH4900[H8802] iniquityH5771 with cordsH2256 of vanityH7723, and sinH2403 as it were with a cartH5699 ropeH5688: [18]Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope,
[19]That sayH559[H8802], Let him make speedH4116[H8762], and hastenH2363[H8686] his workH4639, that we may seeH7200[H8799] it: and let the counselH6098 of the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 draw nighH7126[H8799] and comeH935[H8799], that we may knowH3045 itH8799! [19]That say: 'Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!'
[20]WoeH1945 unto them that callH559[H8802] evilH7451 goodH2896, and goodH2896 evilH7451; that putH7760[H8802] darknessH2822 for lightH216, and lightH216 for darknessH2822; that putH7760[H8802] bitterH4751 for sweetH4966, and sweetH4966 for bitterH4751! [20]Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that change darkness into light, and light into darkness; that change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter!
[21]WoeH1945 unto them that are wiseH2450 in their own eyesH5869, and prudentH995[H8737] in their own sightH6440! [21]Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
[22]WoeH1945 unto them that are mightyH1368 to drinkH8354[H8800] wineH3196, and menH582 of strengthH2428 to mingleH4537[H8800] strong drinkH7941:
