Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
The Septuagint in English by Brenton
LXX(EN)
[1]WHO has believed our report. And to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? [1]O Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
[2]For he grew up before him like an infant and like a root out of the dry ground; he had no form nor comeliness; and when we saw that he had no beauty, we denied him. [2]We brought a report as of a child before him; he is as a root in a thirsty land: he has no form nor comeliness; and we saw him, but he had no form nor beauty.
[3]He is despised and humbled of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and we turned our faces away from him; we despised him and we esteemed him not [3]But his form was ignoble, and inferior to that of the children of men; he was a man in suffering, and acquainted with the bearing of sickness, for his face is turned from us: he was dishonoured, and not esteemed.
[4]Surely he has borne our sorrows and carried our griefs; but we considered him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. [4]He bears our sins, and is pained for us: yet we accounted him to be in trouble, and in suffering, and in affliction.
[5]But he was slain for our sins, he was afflicted for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his wounds we are healed. [5]But he was wounded on account of our sins, and was bruised because of our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his bruises we were healed.
[6]All we like sheep have strayed; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the sins of us all. [6]All we as sheep have gone astray; every one has gone astray in his way; and the Lord gave him up for our sins.
[7]He drew near and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he was led as a lamb to the slaughter; and as an ewe before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. [7]And he, because of his affliction, opens not his mouth: he was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is dumb, so he opens not his mouth.
[8]He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who can describe his anguish? For he was cut off out of the land of the living; and some of the evil men of my people struck him. [8]In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken away from the earth: because of the iniquities of my people he was led to death.
[9]He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, although he had done no iniquity, neither was there any deceit in his mouth [9]And I will give the wicked for his burial, and the rich for his death; for he practised no iniquity, nor craft with his mouth.
[10]Yet it pleased the LORD to afflict him; he has put him to grief; he laid down his life as an offering for sin, that posterity may see, and his days shall be prolonged, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. [10]The Lord also is pleased to purge him from his stroke. If ye can give an offering for sin, your soul shall see a long-lived seed:
[11]He shall see the reward of the travail of his soul, and be satisfied with the knowledge; he shall justify the righteous; for he is a servant of many, and he shall bear their sins. [11]the Lord also is pleased to take away from the travail of his soul, to shew him light, and to form him with understanding; to justify the just one who serves many well; and he shall bear their sins.
[12]Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he has poured out his life to death; and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bore the sins of many, and died the death of transgressors [12]Therefore he shall inherit many, and he shall divide the spoils of the mighty; because his soul was delivered to death: and he was numbered among the transgressors; and he bore the sins of many, and was delivered because of their iniquities.
