| [1]My brethren, have not the faith of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ in respect of persons. |
[1]אחי לא במסב באפא תהוונ אחידינ להימנותא דתשׁבוחתה דמרנ ישׁוע משׁיחא |
| [2]For if there come into your company a man with a gold ring, and in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment, |
[2]אנ גיר נעול לכנושׁתכונ אנשׁ דעזקתה דדהבא או דמאנוהי שׁפירא ונעול מסכנא במאנא צאא |
| [3]And ye have a respect to him that weareth the gay clothing; and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place, and say unto the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool, |
[3]ותחורונ בהו דלבישׁ מאנא שׁפירא ותאמרונ לה אנת הרכא תב שׁפיר ולמסכנא תאמרונ לה אנת קומ להל או תב לכ הרכא קדמ כובשׁא דרגלינ |
| [4]Are ye not partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? |
[4]לא הא אתפלגתונ לכונ בנפשׁכונ והויתונ מפרשׁנא דמחשׁבתא בישׁתא |
| [5]Hearken my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world, that they should be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him? |
[5]שׁמעו אחי חביבא לא הוא למסכנא דעלמא עתירא דינ בהימנותא גבא אלהא דנהוונ ירתא במלכותא הי דמלכ אלהא לאילינ דרחמינ לה |
| [6]But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you by tyranny, and do not they draw you before the judgment seats? |
[6]אנתונ דינ שׁטתוניהי למסכנא לא הא עתירא משׁתעלינ עליכונ והנונ נגדינ לכונ לבית דינא |
| [7]Do not they blaspheme the worthy Name after which ye be named? |
[7]לא הא הנונ מגדפינ על שׁמא טבא דאתקרי עליכונ |
| [8]But if ye fulfill the royal Law according to the Scripture, which saith, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well. |
[8]ואנ נמוסא דאלהא בהדא משׁלמיתונ איכ דכתיב דתרחמ לקריבכ איכ נפשׁכ שׁפיר עבדינ אנתונ |
| [9]But if ye regard the persons, ye commit sin, and are rebuked of the Law, as transgressors. |
[9]אנ דינ באפא נסבינ אנתונ חטיתא עבדינ אנתונ ומתכונינ אנתונ מנ נמוסא איכ עברי על נמוסא |
| [10]For whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet faileth in one point, he is guilty of all. |
[10]אינא גיר דכלה נמוסא נטר ובחדא שׁרע לכלה נמוסא אתחיב |
| [11]For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not kill. Now though thou doest none adultery, yet if thou killest, thou art a transgressor of the Law. |
[11]הו גיר דאמר דלא תגור הו אמר דלא תקטול אנ דינ לא גאר אנת אלא קטל אנת הוית לכ עבר על נמוסא |
| [12]So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the Law of liberty. |
[12]הכנא הויתונ ממללינ והכנא הויתונ סערינ איכ אנשׁא דבנמוסא דחארותא עתידינ אנתונ למתדנו |
| [13]For there shall be judgment merciless to him that showeth no mercy, and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. |
[13]דינא גיר הוא דלא רחמא על הו דלא עבד רחמא משׁתעלינ אנתונ ברחמא על דינא |
| [14]What availeth it, my brethren, though a man saith he hath faith, when he hath no works? Can the faith save him? |
[14]מנא הנינא אחי אנ אנשׁ אמר דאית לי הימנותא ועבדא לית לה דלמא משׁכחא הימנותה דתחיוהי |
| [15]For if a brother or a sister be naked and destitute of daily food, |
[15]ואנ אחא או חתא נהוונ ערטליינ וחסירינ סיברתא דיומא |
| [16]And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace: warm yourselves, and fill your bellies, notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body, what helpeth it? |
[16]ונאמר להונ אנשׁ מנכונ זלו בשׁלמא שׁחנו וסבעו ולא תתלונ להונ סניקותה דפגרא מנא הנינא |
| [17]Even so the faith, if it have no works, is dead in itself. |
[17]הכנא אפ הימנותא דלא עבדא מיתא הי בלחודיה |
| [18]But some man might say, Thou hast the faith, and I have works: show me thy faith out of thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. |
[18]אמר גיר אנשׁ לכ אית לכ הימנותא ולי אית לי עבדא חוני הימנותכ דלא עבדא ואנא מחוא אנא לכ הימנותי מנ עבדי |
| [19]Thou believest that there is one God: thou doest well: the devils also believe it, and tremble. |
[19]מהימנ אנת דחד הו אלהא שׁפיר עבד אנת אפ שׁאדא מהימנינ ורעלינ |
| [20]But wilt thou understand, O thou vain man, that the faith which is without works, is dead? |
[20]צבא אנת דינ דתדע או ברנשׁא חלשׁא דהימנותא דלא עבדא מיתא הי |
| [21]Was not Abraham our father justified through works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar? |
[21]אבונ אברהמ לא הוא מנ עבדא אזדדק דאסק לאיסחק ברה על מדבחא |
| [22]Seest thou not that the faith wrought with his works? And through the works was the faith made perfect. |
[22]חזא אנת דהימנותה סיעת לעבדוהי ומנ עבדא הימנותה אתגמרת |
| [23]And the Scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God. |
[23]ושׁלמ כתבא דאמר דהימנ אברהמ באלהא ואתחשׁבת לה לזדיקו ורחמא דאלהא אתקרי |
| [24]Ye see then how that of works a man is justified, and not of faith only. |
[24]חזא אנת דמנ עבדא מזדדק ברנשׁא ולא הוא מנ הימנותא בלחוד |
| [25]Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified through works, when she had received the messengers, and sent them out another way? |
[25]הכנא אפ רחב זניתא לא הוא מנ עבדא אזדדקת דקבלת לגשׁושׁא ובאורחא אחרתא אפקת אנונ |
| [26]For as the body without the spirit is dead, even so the faith without works is dead. |
[26]איכנא דפגרא דלא רוחא מית הו הכנא אפ הימנותא דלא עבדא מיתא הי |
