[1]And SamsonH8123 went downH3381[H8799] to TimnathH8553, and sawH7200[H8799] a womanH802 in TimnathH8553 of the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430. |
[1]And Sampson went down to Thamnatha, and saw a woman in Thamnatha of the daughters of the Philistines. |
[2]And he came upH5927[H8799], and toldH5046[H8686] his fatherH1 and his motherH517, and saidH559[H8799], I have seenH7200[H8804] a womanH802 in TimnathH8553 of the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430: now therefore getH3947[H8798] her for me to wifeH802. |
[2]And he went up and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Thamnatha of the daughters of the Phylistines; and now take her to me for a wife. |
[3]Then his fatherH1 and his motherH517 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Is there neverH369 a womanH802 among the daughtersH1323 of thy brethrenH251, or among all my peopleH5971, that thou goestH1980[H8802] to takeH3947[H8800] a wifeH802 of the uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistinesH6430? And SamsonH8123 saidH559[H8799] unto his fatherH1, GetH3947[H8798] her for me; for she pleaseth me wellH3474[H8804].[H5869] |
[3]And his father and his mother said to him, Are there no daughters of thy brethren, and is there not a woman of all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? |
[4]But his fatherH1 and his motherH517 knewH3045[H8804] not that it was of the LORDH3068, that he soughtH1245[H8764] an occasionH8385 against the PhilistinesH6430: for at that timeH6256 the PhilistinesH6430 had dominionH4910[H8802] over IsraelH3478. |
[4]And his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought to be revenged on the Philistines: and at that time the Philistines lorded it over Israel. |
[5]Then wentH3381 SamsonH8123 downH3381[H8799], and his fatherH1 and his motherH517, to TimnathH8553, and cameH935[H8799] to the vineyardsH3754 of TimnathH8553: and, behold, a youngH3715 lionH738 roaredH7580[H8802] againstH7125 himH8800. |
[5]And Sampson and his father and his mother went down to Thamnatha, and he came to the vineyard of Thamnatha; and behold, a young lion roared in meeting him. |
[6]And the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 came mightilyH6743[H8799] upon him, and he rentH8156[H8762] him as he would have rentH8156[H8763] a kidH1423, and he had nothingH3972 in his handH3027: but he toldH5046[H8689] not his fatherH1 or his motherH517 what he had doneH6213.[H8804] |
[6]And the spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him, and he crushed him as he would have crushed a kid of the goats, and there was nothing in his hands: and he told not his father and his mother what he had done. |
[7]And he went downH3381[H8799], and talkedH1696[H8762] with the womanH802; and she pleasedH3474 SamsonH8123 wellH3474[H8799].[H5869] |
[7]And they went down and spoke to the woman, and she was pleasing in the eyes of Sampson. |
[8]And after a timeH3117 he returnedH7725[H8799] to takeH3947[H8800] her, and he turned asideH5493[H8799] to seeH7200[H8800] the carcaseH4658 of the lionH738: and, behold, there was a swarmH5712 of beesH1682 and honeyH1706 in the carcaseH1472 of the lionH738. |
[8]And after some time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion; and behold, a swarm of bees, and honey were in the mouth of the lion. |
[9]And he tookH7287[H8799] thereof in his handsH3709, and went onH3212[H8799] eatingH398[H8800], and cameH1980[H8800] to his fatherH1 and motherH517, and he gaveH5414[H8799] them, and they did eatH398[H8799]: but he toldH5046[H8689] not them that he had takenH7287[H8804] the honeyH1706 out of the carcaseH1472 of the lionH738. |
[9]And he took it into his hands, and went on eating, and he went to his father and his mother, and gave to them, and they did eat; but he told them not that he took the honey out of the mouth of the lion. |
[10]So his fatherH1 went downH3381[H8799] unto the womanH802: and SamsonH8123 madeH6213[H8799] there a feastH4960; for so used the young menH970 to doH6213.[H8799] |
[10]And his father went down to the woman, and Sampson made there a banquet for seven days, for so the young men are used to do. |
[11]And it came to pass, when they sawH7200[H8800] him, that they broughtH3947[H8799] thirtyH7970 companions to be with himH4828. |
[11]And it came to pass when they saw him, that they took thirty guests, and they were with him. |
[12]And SamsonH8123 saidH559[H8799] unto them, I will now put forthH2330[H8799] a riddleH2420 unto you: if ye can certainlyH5046[H8687] declareH5046[H8686] it me within the sevenH7651 daysH3117 of the feastH4960, and find it outH4672[H8804], then I will giveH5414[H8804] you thirtyH7970 sheetsH5466 and thirtyH7970 changeH2487 of garmentsH899: |
[12]And Sampson said to them, I propound you a riddle: if ye will indeed tell it me, and discover it within the seven days of the feast, I will you give thirty sheets and thirty changes of raiment. |
[13]But if ye cannotH3201[H8799] declareH5046[H8687] it me, then shall ye giveH5414[H8804] me thirtyH7970 sheetsH5466 and thirtyH7970 changeH2487 of garmentsH899. And they saidH559[H8799] unto him, Put forthH2330[H8798] thy riddleH2420, that we may hearH8085 itH8799. |
[13]And if ye cannot tell it me, ye shall give me thirty napkins and thirty changes of apparel: and they said to him, Propound thy riddle, and we will hear it. |
[14]And he saidH559[H8799] unto them, Out of the eaterH398[H8802] came forthH3318[H8804] meatH3978, and out of the strongH5794 came forthH3318[H8804] sweetnessH4966. And they couldH3201[H8804] not in threeH7969 daysH3117 expoundH5046[H8687] the riddleH2420. |
[14]And he said to them, Meat came forth of the eater, and sweetness out of the strong: and they could not tell the riddle for three days. |
[15]And it came to pass on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that they saidH559[H8799] unto Samson'sH8123 wifeH802, EnticeH6601[H8761] thy husbandH376, that he may declareH5046[H8686] unto us the riddleH2420, lest we burnH8313[H8799] thee and thy father'sH1 houseH1004 with fireH784: have ye calledH7121[H8804] us to take that we haveH3423? is it not soH8800? |
[15]And it came to pass on the fourth day, that they said to the wife of Sampson, Deceive now thy husband, and let him tell thee the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father's house with fire: did ye invite us to do us violence? |
[16]And Samson'sH8123 wifeH802 weptH1058[H8799] before him, and saidH559[H8799], Thou dost but hateH8130[H8804] me, and lovestH157[H8804] me not: thou hast put forthH2330[H8804] a riddleH2420 unto the childrenH1121 of my peopleH5971, and hast not toldH5046[H8689] it me. And he saidH559[H8799] unto her, Behold, I have not toldH5046[H8689] it my fatherH1 nor my motherH517, and shall I tellH5046 it theeH8686? |
[16]And Sampson's wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not; for the riddle which thou hast propounded to the children of my people thou hast not told me: and Sampson said to her, If I have not told it to my father and my mother, shall I tell it to thee? |
[17]And she weptH1058[H8799] before him the sevenH7651 daysH3117, while their feastH4960 lastedH1961[H8804]: and it came to pass on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that he toldH5046[H8686] her, because she lay soreH6693[H8689] upon him: and she toldH5046[H8686] the riddleH2420 to the childrenH1121 of her peopleH5971. |
[17]And she wept before him the seven days, during which their banquet lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she troubled him; and she told it to the children of her people. |
[18]And the menH582 of the cityH5892 saidH559[H8799] unto him on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 before the sunH2775 went downH935[H8799], What is sweeterH4966 than honeyH1706? and what is strongerH5794 than a lionH738? And he saidH559[H8799] unto them, IfH3884 ye had not plowedH2790[H8804] with my heiferH5697, ye had not found outH4672[H8804] my riddleH2420. |
[18]And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day, before sunrise, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? and Sampson said to them, If ye had not ploughed with my heifer, ye would not have known my riddle. |
[19]And the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 cameH6743[H8799] upon him, and he went downH3381[H8799] to AshkelonH831, and slewH5221[H8686] thirtyH7970 menH376 of them, and tookH3947[H8799] their spoilH2488, and gaveH5414[H8799] changeH2487 of garments unto them which expoundedH5046[H8688] the riddleH2420. And his angerH639 was kindledH2734[H8799], and he went upH5927[H8799] to his father'sH1 houseH1004. |
[19]And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him powerfully, and he went down to Ascalon, and destroyed of the inhabitants thirty men, and took their garments, and gave the changes of raiment to them that told the riddle; and Sampson was very angry, and went up to the house of his father. |
[20]But Samson'sH8123 wifeH802 was given to his companionH4828, whom he had used as his friendH7462.[H8765] |
[20]And the wife of Sampson was given to one of his friends, with whom he was on terms of friendship. |
