[1]Against MoabH4124 thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; WoeH1945 unto NeboH5015! for it is spoiledH7703[H8795]: KiriathaimH7156 is confoundedH3001[H8689] and takenH3920[H8738]: MisgabH4869 is confoundedH3001[H8689] and dismayedH2865.[H8804] |
[1]CONCERNING Moab. thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Woe to Nebo! for it is spoiled; Koriathaim is ashamed and confounded; its defenders are confused and scattered. |
[2]There shall be no more praiseH8416 of MoabH4124: in HeshbonH2809 they have devisedH2803[H8804] evilH7451 against it; comeH3212[H8798], and let us cut it offH3772[H8686] from being a nationH1471. Also thou shalt be cut downH1826[H8735], O MadmenH4086; the swordH2719 shall pursueH3212[H8799] theeH310. |
[2]The glory of Moab is no more; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her, saying, Come let us cut her off from being a nation. Though you shall keep your peace, the sword shall pursue you. |
[3]A voiceH6963 of cryingH6818 shall be from HoronaimH2773, spoilingH7701 and greatH1419 destructionH7667. |
[3]A sound of wailing is heard from Horonaim, plunder and great destruction. |
[4]MoabH4124 is destroyedH7665[H8738]; her little onesH6810 have caused a cryH2201 to be heardH8085.[H8689] |
[4]Moab is destroyed; her poor people have published her lamentation. |
[5]For in the going upH4608 of LuhithH3872 continualH1065 weepingH1065 shall go upH5927[H8799]; for in the going downH4174 of HoronaimH2773 the enemiesH6862 have heardH8085[H8804] a cryH6818 of destructionH7667. |
[5]For at the ascent of Luhith they shall go up weeping: and in the going down of Horonaim they shall raise a cry of tribulation and of destruction. |
[6]FleeH5127[H8798], saveH4422[H8761] your livesH5315, and beH1961[H8799] like the heathH6176 in the wildernessH4057. |
[6]Hearken and flee, save your lives and be like a plant in the wilderness. |
[7]For because thou hast trustedH982[H8800] in thy worksH4639 and in thy treasuresH214, thou shalt also be takenH3920[H8735]: and ChemoshH3645 shall go forthH3318[H8804] into captivityH1473 with his priestsH3548 and his princesH8269 togetherH3162. |
[7]For, because you have trusted in your fortifications and in your treasures, you shall also be taken; and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity together with his priests and his princes. |
[8]And the spoilerH7703[H8802] shall comeH935[H8799] upon every cityH5892, and no cityH5892 shall escapeH4422[H8735]: the valleyH6010 also shall perishH6[H8804], and the plainH4334 shall be destroyedH8045[H8738], as the LORDH3068 hath spokenH559.[H8804] |
[8]And the spoiler shall come upon all your cities, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken. |
[9]GiveH5414[H8798] wingsH6731 unto MoabH4124, that it may fleeH5323[H8800] and get awayH3318[H8799]: for the citiesH5892 thereof shall be desolateH8047, without any to dwellH3427[H8802] thereinH2004. |
[9]Give a garland to Moab, for she shall surely be destroyed, and all her cities shall become a desolation without any to dwell in them. |
[10]CursedH779[H8803] be he that doethH6213[H8802] the workH4399 of the LORDH3068 deceitfullyH7423, and cursedH779[H8803] be he that keepeth backH4513[H8802] his swordH2719 from bloodH1818. |
[10]Cursed is be who does the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood. |
[11]MoabH4124 hath been at easeH7599[H8768] from his youthH5271, and he hath settledH8252[H8802] on his leesH8105, and hath not been emptiedH7324[H8717] from vesselH3627 to vesselH3627, neither hath he goneH1980[H8804] into captivityH1473: therefore his tasteH2940 remainedH5975[H8804] in him, and his scentH7381 is not changedH4171.[H8738] |
[11]The Moabites have been at ease from their youth, and they have settled on their lees, and have not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor have they gone into captivity; therefore their taste remains in them and their scent is not changed. |
[12]Therefore, behold, the daysH3117 comeH935[H8802], saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, that I will sendH7971[H8765] unto him wanderersH6808[H8802], that shall cause him to wanderH6808[H8765], and shall emptyH7324[H8686] his vesselsH3627, and breakH5310[H8762] their bottlesH5035. |
[12]Therefore, Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will send robbers against them, and they shall plunder them and empty their vessels and destroy their wine containers. |
[13]And MoabH4124 shall be ashamedH954[H8804] of ChemoshH3645, as the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 was ashamedH954[H8804] of BethelH1008 their confidenceH4009. |
[13]And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence |
[14]How sayH559[H8799] ye, We are mightyH1368 and strongH2428 menH582 for the warH4421? |
[14]How can you say, We are mighty and valiant men of war? |
[15]MoabH4124 is spoiledH7703[H8795], and gone upH5927[H8804] out of her citiesH5892, and his chosenH4005 young menH970 are gone downH3381[H8804] to the slaughterH2874, saithH5002[H8803] the KingH4428, whose nameH8034 is the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635. |
[15]Moab is plundered and his cities are burned and his chosen mighty men have been delivered to the slaughter, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. |
[16]The calamityH343 of MoabH4124 is nearH7138 to comeH935[H8800], and his afflictionH7451 hastethH4116[H8765] fastH3966. |
[16]The calamity of Moab is soon to come, and his affliction hastens fast. |
[17]All ye that are aboutH5439 him, bemoanH5110[H8798] him; and all ye that knowH3045[H8802] his nameH8034, sayH559[H8798], How is the strongH5797 staffH4294 brokenH7665[H8738], and the beautifulH8597 rodH4731! |
[17]All who are round about him are troubled and shaken, and all who know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod! |
[18]Thou daughterH1323 that dost inhabitH3427[H8802] DibonH1769, come downH3381[H8798] from thy gloryH3519, and sitH3427[H8798] in thirstH6772; for the spoilerH7703[H8802] of MoabH4124 shall comeH5927[H8804] upon thee, and he shall destroyH7843[H8765] thy strong holdsH4013. |
[18]Come down from your glory and sit in disgrace, O inhabitant daughter of Ribon, for the spoiler of Moab has come up against you, and he has destroyed your strongholds. |
[19]O inhabitantH3427[H8802] of AroerH6177, standH5975[H8798] by the wayH1870, and espyH6822[H8761]; askH7592[H8798] him that fleethH5127[H8801], and her that escapethH4422[H8737], and sayH559[H8798], What is doneH1961?[H8738] |
[19]Stand by the ways and look, O inhabitant of Adoer! Ask him who flees and him who escapes, and say. What has happened? |
[20]MoabH4124 is confoundedH3001[H8689]; for it is broken downH2865[H8804]: howlH3213[H8685] and cryH2199[H8798]; tellH5046[H8685] ye it in ArnonH769, that MoabH4124 H7703is spoiledH8795 |
[20]Moab is ashamed; for it is broken down; howl and cry in Arnon, for Moab is destroyed. |
[21]And judgmentH4941 is comeH935[H8804] upon the plainH4334 countryH776; upon HolonH2473, and upon JahazahH3096, and upon MephaathH4158, |
[21]And judgment has come upon the land of Mashor, upon Holon and upon Jahazah and upon Mephaath |
[22]And upon DibonH1769, and upon NeboH5015, and upon BethdiblathaimH1015, |
[22]And upon Ribon and upon Nebo and upon Beth-diblathaim |
[23]And upon KiriathaimH7156, and upon BethgamulH1014, and upon BethmeonH1010, |
[23]And upon Koriathaim and upon Bet-gamul and upon Beth-moen |
[24]And upon KeriothH7152, and upon BozrahH1224, and upon all the citiesH5892 of the landH776 of MoabH4124, farH7350 or nearH7138. |
[24]And upon Korioth and upon Bozrah and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. |
[25]The hornH7161 of MoabH4124 is cut offH1438[H8738], and his armH2220 is brokenH7665[H8738], saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[25]The horn of Moab is cut off and his arm is broken, says the LORD. |
[26]Make ye him drunkenH7937[H8685]: for he magnifiedH1431[H8689] himself against the LORDH3068: MoabH4124 also shall wallowH5606[H8804] in his vomitH6892, and he also shall be in derisionH7814. |
[26]Make him to be a vagabond, for he magnified himself against the LORD; Moab also shall wallow in his filth and he shall be in derision. |
[27]For was not IsraelH3478 a derisionH7814 unto thee? was he foundH4672[H8738] among thievesH1590? for sinceH1767 thou spakestH1697 of him, thou skippedstH5110 for joyH8709. |
[27]Was not Israel a derision to you? He was found among thieves when you fought against him. |
[28]O ye that dwellH3427[H8802] in MoabH4124, leaveH5800[H8798] the citiesH5892, and dwellH7931[H8798] in the rockH5553, and be like the doveH3123 that maketh her nestH7077[H8762] in the sidesH5676 of the hole'sH6354 mouthH6310. |
[28]Leave the cities, and dwell in steep rocks, O you that dwell in Moab, and be like the dove that makes her nest in the sides of the mouth of a crag. |
[29]We have heardH8085[H8804] the prideH1347 of MoabH4124, (heH1931 is exceedingH3966 proudH1343) his loftinessH1363, and his arrogancyH1346, and his prideH1347, and the haughtinessH7312 of his heartH3820. |
[29]We have heard that the princes of Moab are exceedingly proud; their loftiness, their arrogance, and the haughtiness of their hearts I know well, says the LORD; |
[30]I knowH3045[H8804] his wrathH5678, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068; but it shall not be so; his liesH907 shall not so effectH6213 itH8804. |
[30]Their works were unjust, and yet their soothsayers did not predict such things against them. |
[31]Therefore will I howlH3213[H8686] for MoabH4124, and I will cry outH2199[H8799] for all MoabH4124; mine heart shall mournH1897[H8799] for the menH582 of KirheresH7025. |
[31]Therefore wail for Moab; they cry out for all Moab from every place; for they shall devise evil against the men who dwell in his house. |
[32]O vineH1612 of SibmahH7643, I will weepH1058[H8799] for thee with the weepingH1065 of JazerH3270: thy plantsH5189 are gone overH5674[H8804] the seaH3220, they reachH5060[H8804] even to the seaH3220 of JazerH3270: the spoilerH7703[H8802] is fallenH5307[H8804] upon thy summer fruitsH7019 and upon thy vintageH1210. |
[32]With the weeping of Jazer I will weep for you, O vine of Sibmah; your branches are gone over the sea; they reach as far as the sea of Jazer, because the spoiler is fallen upon your summer fruits and upon your vintage. |
[33]And joyH8057 and gladnessH1524 is takenH622[H8738] from the plentiful fieldH3759, and from the landH776 of MoabH4124; and I have caused wineH3196 to failH7673[H8689] from the winepressesH3342: none shall treadH1869[H8799] with shoutingH1959; their shoutingH1959 shall be no shoutingH1959. |
[33]Joy and gladness shall pass away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab; and wine shall cease from the winepress; none shall tread with shouting; they shall not shout nor say Ho! Ho! |
[34]From the cryH2201 of HeshbonH2809 even unto ElealehH500, and even unto JahazH3096, have they utteredH5414[H8804] their voiceH6963, from ZoarH6820 even unto HoronaimH2773, as an heiferH5697 of three years oldH7992: for the watersH4325 also of NimrimH5249 shall be desolateH4923. |
[34]From the cry of Heshbon as far as Elealeh, and even to Jahaz, they have uttered their voice; from Zoar to Horonaim, to the city of Alis, they cried like a heifer of three years old; for the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate. |
[35]Moreover I will cause to ceaseH7673[H8689] in MoabH4124, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, him that offerethH5927[H8688] in the high placesH1116, and him that burneth incenseH6999[H8688] to his godsH430. |
[35]Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, says the LORD, him that offers sacrifices in the high places and him that burns incense to his god. |
[36]Therefore mine heartH3820 shall soundH1993[H8799] for MoabH4124 like pipesH2485, and mine heartH3820 shall soundH1993[H8799] like pipesH2485 for the menH582 of KirheresH7025: because the richesH3502 that he hath gottenH6213[H8804] are perishedH6.[H8804] |
[36]Therefore, my heart shall sound for Moab like a harp because they have done evil and are perished. |
[37]For every headH7218 shall be baldH7144, and every beardH2206 clippedH1639[H8803]: upon all the handsH3027 shall be cuttingsH1417, and upon the loinsH4975 sackclothH8242. |
[37]For their heads are clipped and their beards shaved; upon all their hands are signs of mourning, and upon their loins sackcloth. |
[38]There shall be lamentationH4553 generally upon all the housetopsH1406 of MoabH4124, and in the streetsH7339 thereof: for I have brokenH7665[H8804] MoabH4124 like a vesselH3627 wherein is no pleasureH2656, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[38]And upon all the housetops of Moab and in all the streets there is mourning, for I have broken Moab like a useless vessel, says the LORD. |
[39]They shall howlH3213[H8685], saying, How is it broken downH2865[H8804]! how hath MoabH4124 turnedH6437[H8689] the backH6203 with shameH954[H8804]! so shall MoabH4124 be a derisionH7814 and a dismayingH4288 to all them about himH5439. |
[39]How it is broken down! How Moab has turned his back and is put to shame! So shall Moab become a derision and a dismay to all that are round about him. |
[40]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; Behold, he shall flyH1675[H8799] as an eagleH5404, and shall spreadH6566[H8804] his wingsH3671 over MoabH4124. |
[40]For thus says the LORD: Behold, he shall fly mightily as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab. |
[41]KeriothH7152 is takenH3920[H8738], and the strong holdsH4679 are surprisedH8610[H8738], and the mighty men'sH1368 heartsH3820 in MoabH4124 at that dayH3117 shall be as the heartH3820 of a womanH802 in her pangsH6887.[H8688] |
[41]Kerioth is taken and the stronghold has been captured; the heart of the mighty men of Moab shall be in that day as the heart of a woman in her pangs. |
[42]And MoabH4124 shall be destroyedH8045[H8738] from being a peopleH5971, because he hath magnifiedH1431[H8689] himself against the LORDH3068. |
[42]And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people because he has magnified himself against the LORD. |
[43]FearH6343, and the pitH6354, and the snareH6341, shall be upon thee, O inhabitantH3427[H8802] of MoabH4124, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[43]Terror and the pit and the snare are upon you, O inhabitant of Moab, says the LORD. |
[44]He that fleethH5127[H8801][H8675][H5211] fromH6440 the fearH6343 shall fallH5307[H8799] into the pitH6354; and he that getteth upH5927[H8802] out of the pitH6354 shall be takenH3920[H8735] in the snareH6341: for I will bringH935[H8686] upon it, even upon MoabH4124, the yearH8141 of their visitationH6486, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[44]He who flees from the terror shall fall into the pit; and he who gets up out of the pit shall be caught in the snare; for I will bring all these things upon Moab in the year of their punishment, says the LORD. |
[45]They that fledH5127[H8801] stoodH5975[H8804] under the shadowH6738 of HeshbonH2809 because of the forceH3581: but a fireH784 shall come forthH3318[H8804] out of HeshbonH2809, and a flameH3852 from the midstH996 of SihonH5511, and shall devourH398[H8799] the cornerH6285 of MoabH4124, and the crown of the headH6936 of the tumultuousH7588 onesH1121. |
[45]For a fire has gone forth out of Heshbon and a flame from the province of Sihon, and it shall devour the face of Moab and the crown of the head of the sons of Shaon. |
[46]WoeH188 be unto thee, O MoabH4124! the peopleH5971 of ChemoshH3645 perishethH6[H8804]: for thy sonsH1121 are takenH3947[H8795] captivesH7628, and thy daughtersH1323 captivesH7633. |
[46]Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh is perished; for your sons are driven away and your daughters are carried captives. |
[47]Yet will I bring againH7725[H8804] the captivityH7622 of MoabH4124 in the latterH319 daysH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. Thus farH2008 is the judgmentH4941 of MoabH4124. |
[47]Yet I will bring back the captivity of Moab in the latter days, says the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab |
