[1]Run ye to and froH7751[H8786] through the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, and seeH7200[H8798] now, and knowH3045[H8798], and seekH1245[H8761] in the broad placesH7339 thereof, if ye can findH4672[H8799] a manH376, if there beH3426 any that executethH6213[H8802] judgmentH4941, that seekethH1245[H8764] the truthH530; and I will pardonH5545 itH8799. [1]Run to and from by the streets of Jerusalem, and behold now, and know, and inquire in the open places thereof, if ye can find a man, or if there be any that executeth judgment, and seeketh the truth, and I will spare it.
[2]And though they sayH559[H8799], The LORDH3068 livethH2416; surely they swearH7650[H8735] falselyH8267. [2]For though they say, The Lord liveth, yet do they swear falsely.
[3]O LORDH3068, are not thine eyesH5869 upon the truthH530? thou hast strickenH5221[H8689] them, but they have not grievedH2342[H8804]; thou hast consumedH3615[H8765] them, but they have refusedH3985[H8765] to receiveH3947[H8800] correctionH4148: they have made their facesH6440 harderH2388[H8765] than a rockH5553; they have refusedH3985[H8765] to returnH7725.[H8800] [3]O Lord, are not thine eyes upon the truth? Thou hast stricken them, but they have not sorrowed: thou hast consumed them , but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a stone, and have refused to return.
[4]Therefore I saidH559[H8804], Surely these are poorH1800; they are foolishH2973[H8738]: for they knowH3045[H8804] not the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068, nor the judgmentH4941 of their GodH430. [4]Therefore I said, Surely they are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the Lord, nor the judgment of their God.
[5]I will getH3212[H8799] me unto the great menH1419, and will speakH1696[H8762] unto them; for they have knownH3045[H8804] the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068, and the judgmentH4941 of their GodH430: but these have altogetherH3162 brokenH7665[H8804] the yokeH5923, and burstH5423[H8765] the bondsH4147. [5]I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them: for they have known the way of the Lord, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke , and burst the bonds.
[6]Wherefore a lionH738 out of the forestH3293 shall slayH5221[H8689] them, and a wolfH2061 of the eveningsH6160 shall spoilH7703[H8799] them, a leopardH5246 shall watchH8245[H8802] over their citiesH5892: every one that goeth outH3318[H8802] thence shallH2007 be torn in piecesH2963[H8735]: because their transgressionsH6588 are manyH7231[H8804], and their backslidingsH4878 are increasedH6105.[H8804] [6]Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the wilderness shall destroy them: a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence, shall be torn in pieces, because their trespasses are many, and their rebellions are increased.
[7]HowH335 shall I pardonH5545[H8799] thee for thisH2063? thy childrenH1121 have forsakenH5800[H8804] me, and swornH7650[H8735] by them that are noH3808 godsH430: when I had fed them to the fullH7650[H8686], they then committed adulteryH5003[H8799], and assembled themselves by troopsH1413[H8704] in the harlotsH2181'H8802 housesH1004. [7]How should I spare thee for this? Thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: though I fed them to the full, yet they committed adultery, and assembled themselves by companies in the harlot's houses.
[8]They were as fedH2109[H8716] horsesH5483 in the morningH7904[H8688]: every oneH376 neighedH6670[H8799] after his neighbour'sH7453 wifeH802. [8]They rose up in the morning like fed horses: for every man neighed after his neighbor's wife.
[9]Shall I not visitH6485[H8799] for these things? saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: and shall not my soulH5315 be avengedH5358[H8691] on such a nation as thisH1471? [9]Shall I not visit for these things, saith the Lord? Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
[10]Go ye upH5927[H8798] upon her wallsH8284, and destroyH7843[H8761]; but makeH6213[H8799] not a full endH3617: take awayH5493[H8685] her battlementsH5189; for they are not the LORD'SH3068. [10]Climb up upon their walls, and destroy them, but make not a full end: take away their battlements, for they are not the Lord's.
[11]For the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 have dealt veryH898[H8800] treacherouslyH898[H8804] against me, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. [11]For the house of Israel, and the house of Judah have grievously trespassed against me, saith the Lord.
[12]They have beliedH3584[H8765] the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799], It is not he; neither shall evilH7451 comeH935[H8799] upon us; neither shall we seeH7200[H8799] swordH2719 nor famineH7458: [12]They have denied the Lord, and said, It is not he, neither shall the plague come upon us, neither shall we see sword nor famine.
[13]And the prophetsH5030 shall become windH7307, and the wordH1696[H8763] is not in them: thus shall it be doneH6213 unto themH8735. [13]And the prophets shall be as wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it come unto them.
[14]Wherefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of hostsH6635, Because ye speakH1696[H8763] this wordH1697, behold, I will makeH5414[H8802] my wordsH1697 in thy mouthH6310 fireH784, and this peopleH5971 woodH6086, and it shall devourH398 themH8804. [14]Wherefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, Because ye speak such words, behold, I will put my words into thy mouth, like a fire, and this people shall be as wood, and it shall devour them.
[15]Lo, I will bringH935[H8688] a nationH1471 upon you from farH4801, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: it is a mightyH386 nationH1471, it is an ancientH5769 nationH1471, a nationH1471 whose languageH3956 thou knowestH3045[H8799] not, neither understandestH8085[H8799] what they sayH1696.[H8762] [15]Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the Lord, which is a mighty nation, and an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
[16]Their quiverH827 is as an openH6605[H8803] sepulchreH6913, they are all mighty menH1368. [16]Whose quiver is as an open sepulchre: they are all very strong.
[17]And they shall eat upH398[H8804] thine harvestH7105, and thy breadH3899, which thy sonsH1121 and thy daughtersH1323 should eatH398[H8799]: they shall eat upH398[H8799] thy flocksH6629 and thine herdsH1241: they shall eat upH398[H8799] thy vinesH1612 and thy fig treesH8384: they shall impoverishH7567[H8779] thy fencedH4013 citiesH5892, wherein thouH2007 trustedstH982[H8802], with the swordH2719. [17]And they shall eat thine harvest and thy bread: they shall devour thy sons and thy daughters: they shall eat up thy sheep and thy bullocks: they shall eat thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall destroy with the sword thy fenced cities, wherein thou didst trust.
[18]Nevertheless in those daysH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, I will not makeH6213[H8799] a full end with youH3617. [18]Nevertheless at those days, saith the Lord, I will not make a full end of you.
[19]And it shall come to pass, when ye shall sayH559[H8799], WhereforeH8478[H4100] doethH6213[H8804] the LORDH3068 our GodH430 all these things unto us? then shalt thou answerH559[H8804] them, Like as ye have forsakenH5800[H8804] me, and servedH5647[H8799] strangeH5236 godsH430 in your landH776, so shall ye serveH5647[H8799] strangersH2114[H8801] in a land that is not yoursH776. [19]And when ye shall say, Wherefore doth the Lord our God do these things unto us? Then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
[20]DeclareH5046[H8685] this in the houseH1004 of JacobH3290, and publishH8085[H8685] it in JudahH3063, sayingH559,[H8800] [20]Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
[21]HearH8085[H8798] now this, O foolishH5530 peopleH5971, and without understandingH3820; which have eyesH5869, and seeH7200[H8799] not; which have earsH241, and hearH8085 notH8799: [21]Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding, which have eyes and see not, which have ears and hear not.
[22]FearH3372[H8799] ye not me? saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: will ye not trembleH2342[H8799] at my presenceH6440, which have placedH7760[H8804] the sandH2344 for the boundH1366 of the seaH3220 by a perpetualH5769 decreeH2706, that it cannot passH5674[H8799] it: and though the wavesH1530 thereof tossH1607[H8691] themselves, yet can they not prevailH3201[H8799]; though they roarH1993[H8804], yet can they not pass overH5674 itH8799? [22]Fear ye not me, saith the Lord? Or will ye not be afraid at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bounds of the sea by the perpetual decree that it cannot pass it, and though the waves thereof rage, yet can they not prevail, though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
[23]But this peopleH5971 hath a revoltingH5637[H8802] and a rebelliousH4784[H8802] heartH3820; they are revoltedH5493[H8804] and goneH3212.[H8799] [23]But this people hath an unfaithful and rebellious heart: they are departed and gone.
[24]Neither sayH559[H8804] they in their heartH3824, Let us now fearH3372[H8799] the LORDH3068 our GodH430, that givethH5414[H8802] rainH1653, both the formerH3138 and the latterH4456, in his seasonH6256: he reservethH8104[H8799] unto us the appointedH2708 weeksH7620 of the harvestH7105. [24]For they say not in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain both early and late in due season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
[25]Your iniquitiesH5771 have turned awayH5186[H8689] these things, and your sinsH2403 have withholdenH4513[H8804] good things from youH2896. [25]Yet your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have hindered good things from you.
[26]For among my peopleH5971 are foundH4672[H8738] wickedH7563 men: they lay waitH7789[H8799], as he that settethH7918[H8800] snaresH3353; they setH5324[H8689] a trapH4889, they catchH3920[H8799] menH582. [26]For among my people are found wicked persons, that lay wait as he that setteth snares: they have made a pit, to catch men.
[27]As a cageH3619 is fullH4392 of birdsH5775, so are their housesH1004 fullH4392 of deceitH4820: therefore they are become greatH1431[H8804], and waxen richH6238.[H8686] [27]As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: thereby they are become great and waxen rich.
[28]They are waxen fatH8080[H8804], they shineH6245[H8804]: yea, they overpassH5674[H8804] the deedsH1697 of the wickedH7451: they judgeH1777[H8804] not the causeH1779, the cause of the fatherlessH3490, yet they prosperH6743[H8686]; and the rightH4941 of the needyH34 do they not judgeH8199.[H8804] [28]They are waxen fat and shining: they do overpass the deeds of the wicked: they execute no judgment, no not the judgment of the fatherless: yet they prosper, though they execute no judgment for the poor.
[29]Shall I not visitH6485[H8799] for these things? saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: shall not my soulH5315 be avengedH5358[H8691] on such a nation as thisH1471? [29]Shall I not visit for these things, saith the Lord? Or shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
[30]A wonderfulH8047 and horrible thingH8186 is committedH1961[H8738] in the landH776; [30]An horrible and filthy thing is committed in the land.
[31]The prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012[H8738] falselyH8267, and the priestsH3548 bear ruleH7287[H8799] by their meansH3027; and my peopleH5971 loveH157[H8804] to have it so: and what will ye doH6213[H8799] in the end thereofH319? [31]The prophets prophesy lies, and the priests receive gifts in their hands, and my people delight therein. What will ye then do in the end thereof?
