[1]And Elius further continued, and said, |
| [2]SufferH3803[H8761] me a littleH2191, and I will shewH2331[H8762] thee that I have yet to speakH4405 on God's behalfH433. |
[2]Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach thee: for there is yet speech in me. |
| [3]I will fetchH5375[H8799] my knowledgeH1843 from afarH7350, and will ascribeH5414[H8799] righteousnessH6664 to my MakerH6466.[H8802] |
[3]Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works, |
| [4]For trulyH551 my wordsH4405 shall not be falseH8267: he that is perfectH8549 in knowledge is with theeH1844. |
[4]I will speak just things truly, and thou shalt not unjustly receive unjust words. |
| [5]Behold, GodH410 is mightyH3524, and despisethH3988[H8799] not any: he is mightyH3524 in strengthH3581 and wisdomH3820. |
[5]But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom, |
| [6]He preserveth not the lifeH2421[H8762] of the wickedH7563: but givethH5414[H8799] rightH4941 to the poorH6041. |
[6]he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgment of the poor. |
| [7]He withdrawethH1639[H8799] not his eyesH5869 from the righteousH6662: but with kingsH4428 are they on the throneH3678; yea, he doth establishH3427[H8686] them for everH5331, and they are exaltedH1361.[H8799] |
[7]He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but they shall be with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted. |
| [8]And if they be boundH631[H8803] in fettersH2131, and be holdenH3920[H8735] in cordsH2256 of afflictionH6040; |
[8]But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty. |
| [9]Then he shewethH5046[H8686] them their workH6467, and their transgressionsH6588 that they have exceededH1396.[H8691] |
[9]And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence. |
| [10]He openethH1540[H8799] also their earH241 to disciplineH4148, and commandethH559[H8799] that they returnH7725[H8799] from iniquityH205. |
[10]But he will hearken to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness. |
| [11]If they obeyH8085[H8799] and serveH5647[H8799] him, they shall spendH3615[H8762] their daysH3117 in prosperityH2896, and their yearsH8141 in pleasuresH5273. |
[11]If they should hear and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honour. |
| [12]But if they obeyH8085[H8799] not, they shall perishH5674[H8799] by the swordH7973, and they shall dieH1478[H8799] without knowledgeH1847. |
[12]But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient. |
| [13]But the hypocritesH2611 in heartH3820 heap upH7760[H8799] wrathH639: they cryH7768[H8762] not when he bindethH631 themH8804. |
[13]And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath against themselves; they will not cry, because he has bound them. |
| [14]TheyH5315 dieH4191[H8799] in youthH5290, and their lifeH2416 is among the uncleanH6945. |
[14]Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers of death. |
| [15]He deliverethH2502[H8762] the poorH6041 in his afflictionH6040, and openethH1540[H8799] their earsH241 in oppressionH3906. |
[15]Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgment of the meek. |
| [16]Even so would he have removedH5496[H8689] thee out of the straitH6310[H6862] into a broad placeH7338, whereH8478 there is no straitnessH4164; and that which should be setH5183 on thy tableH7979 should be fullH4390[H8804] of fatnessH1880. |
[16]And he has also enticed thee out of the mouth of the enemy: |
| [17]But thou hast fulfilledH4390[H8804] the judgmentH1779 of the wickedH7563: judgmentH1779 and justiceH4941 take holdH8551 on theeH8799. |
[17]there is a deep gulf and a rushing stream beneath it, and thy table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous; |
| [18]Because there is wrathH2534, beware lest he take thee awayH5496[H8686] with his strokeH5607: then a greatH7230 ransomH3724 cannot deliverH5186 theeH8686. |
[18]but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities. |
| [19]Will he esteemH6186[H8799] thy richesH7769? no, not goldH1222, nor all the forcesH3981 of strengthH3581. |
[19]Let not thy mind willingly turn thee aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress. |
| [20]DesireH7602[H8799] not the nightH3915, when peopleH5971 are cut offH5927 in their placeH8800. |
[20]And draw not forth all the mighty men by night, so that the people should go up instead of them. |
| [21]Take heedH8104[H8734], regardH6437[H8799] not iniquityH205: for this hast thou chosenH977[H8804] rather than afflictionH6040. |
[21]But take heed lest thou do that which is wrong: for of this thou has made choice because of poverty. |
| [22]Behold, GodH410 exaltethH7682[H8686] by his powerH3581: who teachethH3384 like himH8688? |
[22]Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is? |
| [23]Who hath enjoinedH6485[H8804] him his wayH1870? or who can sayH559[H8804], Thou hast wroughtH6466[H8804] iniquityH5766? |
[23]And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, he has wrought injustice? |
| [24]RememberH2142[H8798] that thou magnifyH7679[H8686] his workH6467, which menH582 beholdH7891.[H8790] |
[24]Remember that his works are great beyond those which men have attempted. |
| [25]Every manH120 may seeH2372[H8804] it; manH582 may beholdH5027[H8686] it afar offH7350. |
[25]Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded. |
| [26]Behold, GodH410 is greatH7689, and we knowH3045[H8799] him not, neither can the numberH4557 of his yearsH8141 be searched outH2714. |
[26]Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know him: the number of his years is even infinite. |
| [27]For he maketh smallH1639[H8762] the dropsH5198 of waterH4325: they pour downH2212[H8799] rainH4306 according to the vapour thereofH108: |
[27]And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud. |
| [28]Which the cloudsH7834 do dropH5140[H8799] and distilH7491[H8799] upon manH120 abundantlyH7227. |
[28]The ancient heavens shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. Yet by all these things thy understanding is not astonished, neither is thy mind disturbed in thy body. |
| [29]Also can any understandH995[H8799] the spreadingsH4666 of the cloudsH5645, or the noiseH8663 of his tabernacleH5521? |
[29]And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, or the measure of his tabernacle; |
| [30]Behold, he spreadethH6566[H8804] his lightH216 upon it, and coverethH3680[H8765] the bottomH8328 of the seaH3220. |
[30]behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea. |
| [31]For by them judgethH1777[H8799] he the peopleH5971; he givethH5414[H8799] meatH400 in abundanceH4342.[H8688] |
[31]For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength. |
| [32]With cloudsH3709 he coverethH3680[H8765] the lightH216; and commandethH6680[H8762] it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixtH6293.[H8688] |
[32]He has hidden the light in his hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing cloud. |
| [33]The noiseH7452 thereof shewethH5046[H8686] concerning it, the cattleH4735 also concerning the vapourH5927.[H8802] |
[33]The Lord will declare concerning this to his friend: but there is a portion also for unrighteousness. |
