| [1]τότε οὗν ἔλαβεν ὁ πιλᾶτος τὸν ἰησοῦν καὶ ἐμαστίγωσεν. |
[1]Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. |
| [2]καὶ οἱ στρατιῶται πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν αὐτοῦ τῇ κεφαλῇ, καὶ ἱμάτιον πορφυροῦν περιέβαλον αὐτόν, |
[2]And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple garment, |
| [3]καὶ ἤρχοντο πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλεγον, χαῖρε, ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ἰουδαίων· καὶ ἐδίδοσαν αὐτῶ ῥαπίσματα. |
[3]And said, Hail, King of the Jews. And they smote him with their rods. |
| [4]καὶ ἐξῆλθεν πάλιν ἔξω ὁ πιλᾶτος καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, ἴδε ἄγω ὑμῖν αὐτὸν ἔξω, ἵνα γνῶτε ὅτι οὐδεμίαν αἰτίαν εὑρίσκω ἐν αὐτῶ. |
[4]Then Pilate went forth again, and said unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know, that I find no fault in him at all. |
| [5]ἐξῆλθεν οὗν ὁ ἰησοῦς ἔξω, φορῶν τὸν ἀκάνθινον στέφανον καὶ τὸ πορφυροῦν ἱμάτιον. καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, ἰδοὺ ὁ ἄνθρωπος. |
[5]Then came Jesus forth wearing a crown of thorns, and a purple garment. And Pilate said unto them, Behold the man. |
| [6]ὅτε οὗν εἶδον αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται ἐκραύγασαν λέγοντες, σταύρωσον σταύρωσον. λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ πιλᾶτος, λάβετε αὐτὸν ὑμεῖς καὶ σταυρώσατε, ἐγὼ γὰρ οὐχ εὑρίσκω ἐν αὐτῶ αἰτίαν. |
[6]Then when the high Priests and officers saw him, they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Take ye him and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. |
| [7]ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῶ οἱ ἰουδαῖοι, ἡμεῖς νόμον ἔχομεν, καὶ κατὰ τὸν νόμον ὀφείλει ἀποθανεῖν, ὅτι υἱὸν θεοῦ ἑαυτὸν ἐποίησεν. |
[7]The Jews answered him, We have a Law, and by our Law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. |
| [8]ὅτε οὗν ἤκουσεν ὁ πιλᾶτος τοῦτον τὸν λόγον, μᾶλλον ἐφοβήθη, |
[8]When Pilate then heard that word, he was the more afraid, |
| [9]καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον πάλιν καὶ λέγει τῶ ἰησοῦ, πόθεν εἶ σύ; ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς ἀπόκρισιν οὐκ ἔδωκεν αὐτῶ. |
[9]And went again into the common hall and said unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him none answer. |
| [10]λέγει οὗν αὐτῶ ὁ πιλᾶτος, ἐμοὶ οὐ λαλεῖς; οὐκ οἶδας ὅτι ἐξουσίαν ἔχω ἀπολῦσαί σε καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἔχω σταυρῶσαί σε; |
[10]Then said Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? Knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to loose thee? |
| [11]ἀπεκρίθη [αὐτῶ] ἰησοῦς, οὐκ εἶχες ἐξουσίαν κατ᾽ ἐμοῦ οὐδεμίαν εἰ μὴ ἦν δεδομένον σοι ἄνωθεν· διὰ τοῦτο ὁ παραδούς μέ σοι μείζονα ἁμαρτίαν ἔχει. |
[11]Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee, hath the greater sin. |
| [12]ἐκ τούτου ὁ πιλᾶτος ἐζήτει ἀπολῦσαι αὐτόν· οἱ δὲ ἰουδαῖοι ἐκραύγασαν λέγοντες, ἐὰν τοῦτον ἀπολύσῃς, οὐκ εἶ φίλος τοῦ καίσαρος· πᾶς ὁ βασιλέα ἑαυτὸν ποιῶν ἀντιλέγει τῶ καίσαρι. |
[12]From thence forth Pilate sought to loose him, but the Jews cried, saying, If thou deliver him, thou art not Caesars friend: for whosoever maketh himself a King, speaketh against Caesar. |
| [13]ὁ οὗν πιλᾶτος ἀκούσας τῶν λόγων τούτων ἤγαγεν ἔξω τὸν ἰησοῦν, καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ βήματος εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον λιθόστρωτον, ἑβραϊστὶ δὲ γαββαθα. |
[13]When Pilate heard that word, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place called the Pavement, and in Hebrew, Gabbatha. |
| [14]ἦν δὲ παρασκευὴ τοῦ πάσχα, ὥρα ἦν ὡς ἕκτη. καὶ λέγει τοῖς ἰουδαίοις, ἴδε ὁ βασιλεὺς ὑμῶν. |
[14]And it was the Preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour: and he said unto the Jews, Behold your King. |
| [15]ἐκραύγασαν οὗν ἐκεῖνοι, ἆρον ἆρον, σταύρωσον αὐτόν. λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ πιλᾶτος, τὸν βασιλέα ὑμῶν σταυρώσω; ἀπεκρίθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς, οὐκ ἔχομεν βασιλέα εἰ μὴ καίσαρα. |
[15]But they cried, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The high Priests answered, We have no King but Caesar. |
| [16]τότε οὗν παρέδωκεν αὐτὸν αὐτοῖς ἵνα σταυρωθῇ. παρέλαβον οὗν τὸν ἰησοῦν· |
[16]Then delivered he him unto them, to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. |
| [17]καὶ βαστάζων ἑαυτῶ τὸν σταυρὸν ἐξῆλθεν εἰς τὸν λεγόμενον κρανίου τόπον, ὃ λέγεται ἑβραϊστὶ γολγοθα, |
[17]And he bare his cross, and came into a place named of dead mens Skulls, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha: |
| [18]ὅπου αὐτὸν ἐσταύρωσαν, καὶ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἄλλους δύο ἐντεῦθεν καὶ ἐντεῦθεν, μέσον δὲ τὸν ἰησοῦν. |
[18]Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. |
| [19]ἔγραψεν δὲ καὶ τίτλον ὁ πιλᾶτος καὶ ἔθηκεν ἐπὶ τοῦ σταυροῦ· ἦν δὲ γεγραμμένον, ἰησοῦς ὁ ναζωραῖος ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ἰουδαίων. |
[19]And Pilate wrote also a title and put it on the cross, and it was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. |
| [20]τοῦτον οὗν τὸν τίτλον πολλοὶ ἀνέγνωσαν τῶν ἰουδαίων, ὅτι ἐγγὺς ἦν ὁ τόπος τῆς πόλεως ὅπου ἐσταυρώθη ὁ ἰησοῦς· καὶ ἦν γεγραμμένον ἑβραϊστί, ῥωμαϊστί, ἑλληνιστί. |
[20]This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified, was near to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. |
| [21]ἔλεγον οὗν τῶ πιλάτῳ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς τῶν ἰουδαίων, μὴ γράφε, ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ἰουδαίων, ἀλλ᾽ ὅτι ἐκεῖνος εἶπεν, βασιλεύς εἰμι τῶν ἰουδαίων. |
[21]Then said the high Priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews, but that he said, I am King of the Jews. |
| [22]ἀπεκρίθη ὁ πιλᾶτος, ὃ γέγραφα, γέγραφα. |
[22]Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written. |
| [23]οἱ οὗν στρατιῶται ὅτε ἐσταύρωσαν τὸν ἰησοῦν ἔλαβον τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐποίησαν τέσσαρα μέρη, ἑκάστῳ στρατιώτῃ μέρος, καὶ τὸν χιτῶνα. ἦν δὲ ὁ χιτὼν ἄραφος, ἐκ τῶν ἄνωθεν ὑφαντὸς δι᾽ ὅλου. |
[23]Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part and his coat: and the coat was without seam woven from the top throughout. |
| [24]εἶπαν οὗν πρὸς ἀλλήλους, μὴ σχίσωμεν αὐτόν, ἀλλὰ λάχωμεν περὶ αὐτοῦ τίνος ἔσται· ἵνα ἡ γραφὴ πληρωθῇ [ἡ λέγουσα], διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτιά μου ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν ἱματισμόν μου ἔβαλον κλῆρον. οἱ μὲν οὗν στρατιῶται ταῦτα ἐποίησαν. |
[24]Therefore they said one to another, Let us not divide it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be. This was that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They departed my garments among them, and on my coat did cast lots. So the soldiers did these things indeed. |
| [25]εἱστήκεισαν δὲ παρὰ τῶ σταυρῶ τοῦ ἰησοῦ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ ἀδελφὴ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ, μαρία ἡ τοῦ κλωπᾶ καὶ μαρία ἡ μαγδαληνή. |
[25]Then stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mothers sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. |
| [26]ἰησοῦς οὗν ἰδὼν τὴν μητέρα καὶ τὸν μαθητὴν παρεστῶτα ὃν ἠγάπα, λέγει τῇ μητρί, γύναι, ἴδε ὁ υἱός σου. |
[26]And when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son. |
| [27]εἶτα λέγει τῶ μαθητῇ, ἴδε ἡ μήτηρ σου. καὶ ἀπ᾽ ἐκείνης τῆς ὥρας ἔλαβεν ὁ μαθητὴς αὐτὴν εἰς τὰ ἴδια. |
[27]Then said he to the disciple, Behold thy mother: and from that hour, the disciple took her home unto him. |
| [28]μετὰ τοῦτο εἰδὼς ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἤδη πάντα τετέλεσται, ἵνα τελειωθῇ ἡ γραφή, λέγει, διψῶ. |
[28]After, when Jesus knew that all things were performed, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, I thirst. |
| [29]σκεῦος ἔκειτο ὄξους μεστόν· σπόγγον οὗν μεστὸν τοῦ ὄξους ὑσσώπῳ περιθέντες προσήνεγκαν αὐτοῦ τῶ στόματι. |
[29]And there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it about an Hyssop stalk, and put it to his mouth. |
| [30]ὅτε οὗν ἔλαβεν τὸ ὄξος [ὁ] ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, τετέλεσται· καὶ κλίνας τὴν κεφαλὴν παρέδωκεν τὸ πνεῦμα. |
[30]Now when Jesus had received of the vinegar, he said, It is finished, and bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. |
| [31]οἱ οὗν ἰουδαῖοι, ἐπεὶ παρασκευὴ ἦν, ἵνα μὴ μείνῃ ἐπὶ τοῦ σταυροῦ τὰ σώματα ἐν τῶ σαββάτῳ, ἦν γὰρ μεγάλη ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνου τοῦ σαββάτου, ἠρώτησαν τὸν πιλᾶτον ἵνα κατεαγῶσιν αὐτῶν τὰ σκέλη καὶ ἀρθῶσιν. |
[31]The Jews then (because it was the Preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day: for that Sabbath was an high day) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken down. |
| [32]ἦλθον οὗν οἱ στρατιῶται, καὶ τοῦ μὲν πρώτου κατέαξαν τὰ σκέλη καὶ τοῦ ἄλλου τοῦ συσταυρωθέντος αὐτῶ· |
[32]Then came the soldiers and break the legs of the first, and of the other, which was crucified with Jesus. |
| [33]ἐπὶ δὲ τὸν ἰησοῦν ἐλθόντες, ὡς εἶδον ἤδη αὐτὸν τεθνηκότα, οὐ κατέαξαν αὐτοῦ τὰ σκέλη, |
[33]But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they break not his legs. |
| [34]ἀλλ᾽ εἷς τῶν στρατιωτῶν λόγχῃ αὐτοῦ τὴν πλευρὰν ἔνυξεν, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εὐθὺς αἷμα καὶ ὕδωρ. |
[34]But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. |
| [35]καὶ ὁ ἑωρακὼς μεμαρτύρηκεν, καὶ ἀληθινὴ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν ἡ μαρτυρία, καὶ ἐκεῖνος οἶδεν ὅτι ἀληθῆ λέγει, ἵνα καὶ ὑμεῖς πιστεύ[ς]ητε. |
[35]And he that saw it, bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true , that ye might believe it. |
| [36]ἐγένετο γὰρ ταῦτα ἵνα ἡ γραφὴ πληρωθῇ, ὀστοῦν οὐ συντριβήσεται αὐτοῦ. |
[36]For these things were done, that the Scripture should be fulfilled, Not a bone of him shall be broken. |
| [37]καὶ πάλιν ἑτέρα γραφὴ λέγει, ὄψονται εἰς ὃν ἐξεκέντησαν. |
[37]And again another Scripture saith, They shall see him whom they have thrust through. |
| [38]μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἠρώτησεν τὸν πιλᾶτον ἰωσὴφ [ὁ] ἀπὸ ἁριμαθαίας, ὢν μαθητὴς τοῦ ἰησοῦ κεκρυμμένος δὲ διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν ἰουδαίων, ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ἰησοῦ· καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν ὁ πιλᾶτος. ἦλθεν οὗν καὶ ἦρεν τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ. |
[38]And after these things, Joseph of Arimathea (who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) besought Pilate that he might take down the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave him license. He came then and took Jesus body. |
| [39]ἦλθεν δὲ καὶ νικόδημος, ὁ ἐλθὼν πρὸς αὐτὸν νυκτὸς τὸ πρῶτον, φέρων μίγμα σμύρνης καὶ ἀλόης ὡς λίτρας ἑκατόν. |
[39]And there came also Nicodemus (which first came to Jesus by night) and brought of myrrh and aloes mingled together about an hundreth pound. |
| [40]ἔλαβον οὗν τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ἰησοῦ καὶ ἔδησαν αὐτὸ ὀθονίοις μετὰ τῶν ἀρωμάτων, καθὼς ἔθος ἐστὶν τοῖς ἰουδαίοις ἐνταφιάζειν. |
[40]Then took they the body of Jesus, and wrapped it in linen clothes with the odors, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. |
| [41]ἦν δὲ ἐν τῶ τόπῳ ὅπου ἐσταυρώθη κῆπος, καὶ ἐν τῶ κήπῳ μνημεῖον καινὸν ἐν ᾧ οὐδέπω οὐδεὶς ἦν τεθειμένος· |
[41]And in that place where Jesus was crucified, was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid. |
| [42]ἐκεῖ οὗν διὰ τὴν παρασκευὴν τῶν ἰουδαίων, ὅτι ἐγγὺς ἦν τὸ μνημεῖον, ἔθηκαν τὸν ἰησοῦν. |
[42]There then laid they Jesus, because of the Jews Preparation day, for the sepulcher was near. |
