[1]And when Jabin king of Hazor had heard this, then he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, |
| [2]And to the kingsH4428 that were on the northH6828 of the mountainsH2022, and of the plainsH6160 southH5045 of ChinnerothH3672, and in the valleyH8219, and in the bordersH5299 of DorH1756 on the westH3220, |
[2]And unto the kings that were by the north in the mountains and plains toward the south side of Cinnereth, and in the valleys, and in the borders of Dor westward, |
| [3]And to the CanaaniteH3669 on the eastH4217 and on the westH3220, and to the AmoriteH567, and the HittiteH2850, and the PerizziteH6522, and the JebusiteH2983 in the mountainsH2022, and to the HiviteH2340 under HermonH2768 in the landH776 of MizpehH4709. |
[3]And unto the Canaanites, both by east, and by west, and unto the Amorites, and Hittites, and Perizzites, and Jebusites in the mountains, and unto the Hivites under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh. |
| [4]And they went outH3318[H8799], they and all their hostsH4264 with them, muchH7227 peopleH5971, even as the sandH2344 that is upon the seaH3220 shoreH8193 in multitudeH7230, with horsesH5483 and chariotsH7393 veryH3966 manyH7227. |
[4]And they came out and all their hosts with them, many people as the sand that is on the sea shore for multitude, with horses and chariots exceeding many. |
| [5]And when all these kingsH4428 were met togetherH3259[H8735], they cameH935[H8799] and pitchedH2583[H8799] togetherH3162 at the watersH4325 of MeromH4792, to fightH3898[H8736] against IsraelH3478. |
[5]So all these kings met together, and came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, for to fight against Israel. |
| [6]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto JoshuaH3091, Be not afraidH3372[H8799] becauseH6440 of them: for to morrowH4279 about this timeH6256 will I deliver them upH5414[H8802] all slainH2491 beforeH6440 IsraelH3478: thou shalt houghH6131[H8762] their horsesH5483, and burnH8313[H8799] their chariotsH4818 with fireH784. |
[6]Then the Lord said unto Joshua, Be not afraid for them: for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. |
| [7]So JoshuaH3091 cameH935[H8799], and all the peopleH5971 of warH4421 with him, against them by the watersH4325 of MeromH4792 suddenlyH6597; and they fell uponH5307 themH8799. |
[7]Then came Joshua and all the men of war with him against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them. |

[8]And the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel: and they smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephothmaim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward, and smote them until they had none remaining of them. |
| [9]And JoshuaH3091 didH6213[H8799] unto them as the LORDH3068 badeH559[H8804] him: he houghedH6131[H8765] their horsesH5483, and burntH8313[H8804] their chariotsH4818 with fireH784. |
[9]And Joshua did unto them as the Lord bade him: he houghed their horses, and burned their chariots with fire. |
| [10]And JoshuaH3091 at that timeH6256 turned backH7725[H8799], and tookH3920[H8799] HazorH2674, and smoteH5221[H8689] the kingH4428 thereof with the swordH2719: for HazorH2674 beforetimeH6440 was the headH7218 of all those kingdomsH4467. |
[10]At that time also Joshua turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor before time was the head of all those kingdoms. |
| [11]And they smoteH5221[H8686] all the soulsH5315 that were therein with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719, utterly destroyingH2763[H8687] them: there was not any leftH3498[H8738] to breatheH5397: and he burntH8313[H8804] HazorH2674 with fireH784. |
[11]Moreover, they smote all the persons that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying all, leaving none alive, and he burned Hazor with fire. |
| [12]And all the citiesH5892 of those kingsH4428, and all the kingsH4428 of them, did JoshuaH3091 takeH3920[H8804], and smoteH5221[H8686] them with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719, and he utterly destroyedH2763[H8689] them, as MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068 commandedH6680.[H8765] |
[12]So all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded. |
| [13]But as for the citiesH5892 that stoodH5975[H8802] still in their strengthH8510, IsraelH3478 burnedH8313[H8804] none of them, saveH2108 HazorH2674 only; that did JoshuaH3091 burnH8313.[H8804] |
[13]But Israel burned none of the cities that stood still in their strength, save Hazor only, that Joshua burned. |
| [14]And all the spoilH7998 of these citiesH5892, and the cattleH929, the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 took for a preyH962[H8804] unto themselves; but every manH120 they smoteH5221[H8689] with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719, until they had destroyedH8045[H8687] them, neither leftH7604[H8689] they any to breatheH5397. |
[14]And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle the children of Israel took for their prey, but they smote every man with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, not leaving one alive. |
| [15]As the LORDH3068 commandedH6680[H8765] MosesH4872 his servantH5650, so did MosesH4872 commandH6680[H8765] JoshuaH3091, and so didH6213[H8804] JoshuaH3091; he leftH5493 nothingH1697 undoneH5493[H8689] of all that the LORDH3068 commandedH6680[H8765] MosesH4872. |
[15]As the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua: he left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses. |
| [16]So JoshuaH3091 tookH3947[H8799] all that landH776, the hillsH2022, and all the south countryH5045, and all the landH776 of GoshenH1657, and the valleyH8219, and the plainH6160, and the mountainH2022 of IsraelH3478, and the valley of the sameH8219; |
[16]So Joshua took all this land of the mountains, and all the south, and all the land of Goshen, and the low country, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the low country of the same, |
| [17]Even from the mountH2022 HalakH2510, that goeth upH5927[H8802] to SeirH8165, even unto BaalgadH1171 in the valleyH1237 of LebanonH3844 under mountH2022 HermonH2768: and all their kingsH4428 he tookH3920[H8804], and smoteH5221[H8686] them, and slewH4191 themH8686. |
[17]From the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon, under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them. |
| [18]JoshuaH3091 madeH6213[H8804] warH4421 a longH7227 timeH3117 with all those kingsH4428. |
[18]Joshua made war long time with all those kings, |
| [19]There was not a cityH5892 that made peaceH7999[H8689] with the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, save the HivitesH2340 the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of GibeonH1391: all other they tookH3947[H8804] in battleH4421. |
[19]Neither was there any city that made peace with the children of Israel, save those Hivites that inhabited Gibeon: all other they took by battle. |
| [20]For it was of the LORDH3068 to hardenH2388[H8763] their heartsH3820, that they should come againstH7125[H8800] IsraelH3478 in battleH4421, that he might destroy them utterlyH2763[H8687], and that they might have no favourH8467, but that he might destroyH8045[H8687] them, as the LORDH3068 commandedH6680[H8765] MosesH4872. |
[20]For it came of the Lord, to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle to the intent that they should destroy them utterly, and show them no mercy, but that they should bring them to naught: as the Lord had commanded Moses. |
| [21]And at that timeH6256 cameH935[H8799] JoshuaH3091, and cut offH3772[H8686] the AnakimsH6062 from the mountainsH2022, from HebronH2275, from DebirH1688, from AnabH6024, and from all the mountainsH2022 of JudahH3063, and from all the mountainsH2022 of IsraelH3478: JoshuaH3091 destroyed them utterlyH2763[H8689] with their citiesH5892. |
[21]And that same season came Joshua, and destroyed the Anakims out of the mountains: as out of Hebron, out of Debir, out of Anab, and out of all the mountains of Judah, and out of all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities. |
| [22]There was none of the AnakimsH6062 leftH3498[H8738] in the landH776 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: only in GazaH5804, in GathH1661, and in AshdodH795, there remainedH7604.[H8738] |
[22]There was no Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Azzah, in Gath, and in Ashdod were they left. |
| [23]So JoshuaH3091 tookH3947[H8799] the whole landH776, according to all that the LORDH3068 saidH1696[H8765] unto MosesH4872; and JoshuaH3091 gaveH5414[H8799] it for an inheritanceH5159 unto IsraelH3478 according to their divisionsH4256 by their tribesH7626. And the landH776 restedH8252[H8804] from warH4421. |
[23]So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had said unto Moses: and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their portion through their tribes: then the land was at rest without war. |
