[1]Then Joshua rose very early, and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he, and all the children of Israel, and lodged there, before they went over. |
| [2]And it came to pass afterH7097 threeH7969 daysH3117, that the officersH7860[H8802] wentH5674[H8799] throughH7130 the hostH4264; |
[2]And after three days the officers went throughout the host, |
| [3]And they commandedH6680[H8762] the peopleH5971, sayingH559[H8800], When ye seeH7200[H8800] the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, and the priestsH3548 the LevitesH3881 bearingH5375[H8802] it, then ye shall removeH5265[H8799] from your placeH4725, and goH1980[H8804] after itH310. |
[3]And commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests of the Levites bearing it, ye shall depart from your place, and go after it. |
| [4]Yet there shall be a spaceH7350 between you and it, about two thousandH505 cubitsH520 by measureH4060: come not nearH7126[H8799] unto it, that ye may knowH3045[H8799] the wayH1870 by which ye must goH3212[H8799]: for ye have not passedH5674[H8804] this wayH1870 heretoforeH8543.[H8032] |
[4]Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: ye shall not come near unto it, that ye may know the way, by the which ye shall go: for ye have not gone this way in times past. |
| [5]And JoshuaH3091 saidH559[H8799] unto the peopleH5971, SanctifyH6942[H8690] yourselves: for to morrowH4279 the LORDH3068 will doH6213[H8799] wondersH6381[H8737] among youH7130. |
[5](Now Joshua had said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you) |
| [6]And JoshuaH3091 spakeH559[H8799] unto the priestsH3548, sayingH559[H8800], Take upH5375[H8798] the arkH727 of the covenantH1285, and pass overH5674[H8798] beforeH6440 the peopleH5971. And they took upH5375[H8799] the arkH727 of the covenantH1285, and wentH3212[H8799] beforeH6440 the peopleH5971. |
[6]Also Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and go over before the people: so they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people. |
| [7]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto JoshuaH3091, This dayH3117 will I beginH2490[H8686] to magnifyH1431[H8763] thee in the sightH5869 of all IsraelH3478, that they may knowH3045[H8799] that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with theeH4872. |
[7]Then the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, which shall know, that as I was with Moses, so will I be with thee. |
| [8]And thou shalt commandH6680[H8762] the priestsH3548 that bearH5375[H8802] the arkH727 of the covenantH1285, sayingH559[H8800], When ye are comeH935[H8800] to the brinkH7097 of the waterH4325 of JordanH3383, ye shall stand stillH5975[H8799] in JordanH3383. |
[8]Thou shalt therefore command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the waters of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan. |
| [9]And JoshuaH3091 saidH559[H8799] unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, Come hitherH5066[H8798], and hearH8085[H8798] the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430. |
[9]Then Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your God. |
| [10]And JoshuaH3091 saidH559[H8799], Hereby ye shall knowH3045[H8799] that the livingH2416 GodH410 is amongH7130 you, and that he will without failH3423[H8687] drive outH3423[H8686] from beforeH6440 you the CanaanitesH3669, and the HittitesH2850, and the HivitesH2340, and the PerizzitesH6522, and the GirgashitesH1622, and the AmoritesH567, and the JebusitesH2983. |
[10]And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will certainly cast out before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites. |
| [11]Behold, the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LordH113 of all the earthH776 passeth overH5674[H8802] beforeH6440 you into JordanH3383. |
[11]Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the world passeth before you into Jordan. |
| [12]Now therefore takeH3947[H8798] you twelveH8147[H6240] menH376 out of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, out of everyH259 tribeH7626 a manH376. |
[12]Now therefore take from among you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man. |
| [13]And it shall come to pass, as soon as the solesH3709 of the feetH7272 of the priestsH3548 that bearH5375[H8802] the arkH727 of the LORDH3068, the LordH113 of all the earthH776, shall restH5117[H8800] in the watersH4325 of JordanH3383, that the watersH4325 of JordanH3383 shall be cut offH3772[H8735] from the watersH4325 that come downH3381[H8802] from aboveH4605; and they shall standH5975[H8799] upon anH259 heapH5067. |
[13]And as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests (that bear the ark of the Lord God the Lord of all the world) shall stay in the waters of Jordan, the waters of Jordan shall be cut off: for the waters that come from above, shall stand still upon an heap. |
| [14]And it came to pass, when the peopleH5971 removedH5265[H8800] from their tentsH168, to pass overH5674[H8800] JordanH3383, and the priestsH3548 bearingH5375[H8802] the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 beforeH6440 the peopleH5971; |
[14]Then when the people were departed from their tents to go over Jordan, the priests bearing the ark of the covenant, went before the people. |
| [15]And as they that bareH5375[H8802] the arkH727 were comeH935[H8800] unto JordanH3383, and the feetH7272 of the priestsH3548 that bareH5375[H8802] the arkH727 were dippedH2881[H8738] in the brimH7097 of the waterH4325, (for JordanH3383 overflowethH4390[H8804] all his banksH1415 all the timeH3117 of harvestH7105,) |
[15]And as they that bear the ark came unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bear the ark were dipped in the brink of the water, (for Jordan useth to fill all his banks all the time of harvest) |
| [16]That the watersH4325 which came downH3381[H8802] from aboveH4605 stoodH5975[H8799] and rose upH6965[H8804] upon anH259 heapH5067 veryH3966 farH7368[H8687] from the cityH5892 AdamH121, that is besideH6654 ZaretanH6891: and those that came downH3381[H8802] toward the seaH3220 of the plainH6160, even the saltH4417 seaH3220, failedH8552[H8804], and were cut offH3772[H8738]: and the peopleH5971 passed overH5674[H8804] right against JerichoH3405. |
[16]Then the waters that came down from above, stayed and rose upon an heap and departed far from the city of Adam, that was beside Zaretan: but the waters that came down toward the sea of the wilderness, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: so the people went right over against Jericho. |
| [17]And the priestsH3548 that bareH5375[H8802] the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 stoodH5975[H8799] firmH3559[H8687] on dry groundH2724 in the midstH8432 of JordanH3383, and all the IsraelitesH3478 passed overH5674[H8802] on dry groundH2724, until all the peopleH1471 were passedH5674 cleanH8552[H8804] overH5674[H8800] JordanH3383. |
[17]But the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, stood dry within Jordan ready prepared, and all the Israelites went over dry, until all the people were gone clean over through Jordan. |
