[1]How doth the cityH5892 sitH3427[H8804] solitaryH910, that was fullH7227 of peopleH5971! how is she become as a widowH490! she that was greatH7227 among the nationsH1471, and princessH8282 among the provincesH4082, how is she become tributaryH4522! [1]How doth the city remain solitary that was full of people? She is as a widow: she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, is made tributary.
[2]She weepethH1058[H8799] soreH1058[H8800] in the nightH3915, and her tearsH1832 are on her cheeksH3895: among all her loversH157[H8802] she hath none to comfortH5162[H8764] her: all her friendsH7453 have dealt treacherouslyH898[H8804] with her, they are become her enemiesH341.[H8802] [2]She weepeth continually in the night, and her tears run down by her cheeks: among all her lovers, she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt unfaithfully with her, and are her enemies.
[3]JudahH3063 is gone into captivityH1540[H8804] because of afflictionH6040, and because of greatH7230 servitudeH5656: she dwellethH3427[H8804] among the heathenH1471, she findethH4672[H8804] no restH4494: all her persecutorsH7291[H8802] overtookH5381[H8689] her between the straitsH4712. [3]Judah is carried away captive because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, and findeth no rest: all her persecutors took her in the straits.
[4]The waysH1870 of ZionH6726 do mournH57, because none comeH935[H8802] to the solemn feastsH4150: all her gatesH8179 are desolateH8074[H8802]: her priestsH3548 sighH584[H8737], her virginsH1330 are afflictedH3013[H8737], and she is in bitternessH4843.[H8804] [4]The ways of Zion lament, because no man cometh to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh: her virgins are discomfited, and she is in heaviness.
[5]Her adversariesH6862 are the chiefH7218, her enemiesH341[H8802] prosperH7951[H8804]; for the LORDH3068 hath afflictedH3013[H8689] her for the multitudeH7230 of her transgressionsH6588: her childrenH5768 are goneH1980[H8804] into captivityH7628 beforeH6440 the enemyH6862. [5]Her adversaries are the chief, and her enemies prosper: for the Lord hath afflicted her, for the multitude of her transgressions, and her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
[6]And from the daughterH1323 of ZionH6726 all her beautyH1926 is departedH3318[H8799]: her princesH8269 are become like hartsH354 that findH4672[H8804] no pastureH4829, and they are goneH3212[H8799] without strengthH3581 beforeH6440 the pursuerH7291.[H8802] [6]And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
[7]JerusalemH3389 rememberedH2142[H8804] in the daysH3117 of her afflictionH6040 and of her miseriesH4788 all her pleasant thingsH4262 that she had in the daysH3117 of oldH6924, when her peopleH5971 fellH5307[H8800] into the handH3027 of the enemyH6862, and none did helpH5826[H8802] her: the adversariesH6862 sawH7200[H8804] her, and did mockH7832[H8804] at her sabbathsH4868. [7]Jerusalem remembered the days of her affliction, and of her rebellion, and all her pleasant things, that she had in times past, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversary saw her, and did mock at her Sabbaths.
[8]JerusalemH3389 hath grievouslyH2399 sinnedH2398[H8804]; therefore she is removedH5206: all that honouredH3513[H8764] her despiseH2107[H8689] her, because they have seenH7200[H8804] her nakednessH6172: yea, she sighethH584[H8738], and turnethH7725[H8799] backwardH268. [8]Jerusalem hath grievously sinned, therefore she is in derision: all that honored her, despise her, because they have seen her filthiness: yea, she sigheth and turneth backward.
[9]Her filthinessH2932 is in her skirtsH7757; she rememberethH2142[H8804] not her last endH319; therefore she came downH3381[H8799] wonderfullyH6382: she had no comforterH5162[H8764]. O LORDH3068, beholdH7200[H8798] my afflictionH6040: for the enemyH341[H8802] hath magnifiedH1431 himselfH8689. [9]Her filthiness is in her skirts: she remembered not her last end, therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter: O Lord, behold mine affliction: for the enemy is proud.
[10]The adversaryH6862 hath spread outH6566[H8804] his handH3027 upon all her pleasant thingsH4261: for she hath seenH7200[H8804] that the heathenH1471 enteredH935[H8804] into her sanctuaryH4720, whom thou didst commandH6680[H8765] that they should not enterH935[H8799] into thy congregationH6951. [10]The enemy hath stretched out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen the heathen enter into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command, that they should not enter into thy church.
[11]All her peopleH5971 sighH584[H8737], they seekH1245[H8764] breadH3899; they have givenH5414[H8804] their pleasant thingsH4261[H8675][H4262] for meatH400 to relieveH7725[H8687] the soulH5315: seeH7200[H8798], O LORDH3068, and considerH5027[H8685]; for I am become vileH2151.[H8802] [11]All her people sigh and seek their bread: they have given their pleasant things for meat to refresh the soul: see, O Lord, and consider: for I am become vile.
[12]Is it nothing to you, all ye that passH5674[H8802] byH1870? beholdH5027[H8685], and seeH7200[H8798] if there beH3426 any sorrowH4341 like unto my sorrowH4341, which is doneH5953[H8776] unto me, wherewith the LORDH3068 hath afflictedH3013[H8689] me in the dayH3117 of his fierceH2740 angerH639. [12]Have ye no regard, all ye that pass by this way? Behold, and see, if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce wrath.
[13]From aboveH4791 hath he sentH7971[H8804] fireH784 into my bonesH6106, and it prevailethH7287[H8799] against them: he hath spreadH6566[H8804] a netH7568 for my feetH7272, he hath turnedH7725[H8689] me backH268: he hath madeH5414[H8804] me desolateH8074[H8802] and faintH1739 all the dayH3117. [13]From above hath he sent fire into my bones, which prevail against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, and turned me back: he hath made me desolate, and daily in heaviness.
[14]The yokeH5923 of my transgressionsH6588 is boundH8244[H8738] by his handH3027: they are wreathedH8276[H8691], and come upH5927[H8804] upon my neckH6677: he hath made my strengthH3581 to fallH3782[H8689], the LordH136 hath deliveredH5414[H8804] me into their handsH3027, from whom I am not ableH3201[H8799] to rise upH6965.[H8800] [14]The yoke of my transgressions is bound upon his hand: they are wrapped, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall: the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, neither am I able to rise up.
[15]The LordH136 hath trodden under footH5541[H8765] all my mightyH47 men in the midstH7130 of me: he hath calledH7121[H8804] an assemblyH4150 against me to crushH7665[H8800] my young menH970: the LordH136 hath troddenH1869[H8804] the virginH1330, the daughterH1323 of JudahH3063, as in a winepressH1660. [15]The Lord hath trodden under foot all my valiant men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to destroy my young men: the Lord hath trodden the wine press upon the virgin the daughter of Judah.
[16]For these things I weepH1058[H8802]; mine eyeH5869, mine eyeH5869 runneth downH3381[H8802] with waterH4325, because the comforterH5162[H8764] that should relieveH7725[H8688] my soulH5315 is farH7368[H8804] from me: my childrenH1121 are desolateH8074[H8802], because the enemyH341[H8802] prevailedH1396.[H8804] [16]For these things I weep: mine eye, even mine eye casteth out water, because the comforter that should refresh my soul, is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.
[17]ZionH6726 spreadeth forthH6566[H8765] her handsH3027, and there is none to comfortH5162[H8764] her: the LORDH3068 hath commandedH6680[H8765] concerning JacobH3290, that his adversariesH6862 should be round aboutH5439 him: JerusalemH3389 is as a menstruous woman among themH5079. [17]Zion stretcheth out her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the Lord hath appointed the enemies of Jacob round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman in the midst of them.
[18]The LORDH3068 is righteousH6662; for I have rebelledH4784[H8804] against his commandmentH6310: hearH8085[H8798], I pray you, all peopleH5971, and beholdH7200[H8798] my sorrowH4341: my virginsH1330 and my young menH970 are goneH1980[H8804] into captivityH7628. [18]The Lord is righteous: for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
[19]I calledH7121[H8804] for my loversH157[H8764], but they deceivedH7411[H8765] me: my priestsH3548 and mine eldersH2205 gave up the ghostH1478[H8804] in the cityH5892, while they soughtH1245[H8765] their meatH400 to relieveH7725[H8686] their soulsH5315. [19]I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders perished in the city while they sought their meat to refresh their souls.
[20]BeholdH7200[H8798], O LORDH3068; for I am in distressH6887[H8804]: my bowelsH4578 are troubledH2560[H8777]; mine heartH3820 is turnedH2015[H8738] withinH7130 me; for I have grievouslyH4784[H8800] rebelledH4784[H8804]: abroadH2351 the swordH2719 bereavethH7921[H8765], at homeH1004 there is as deathH4194. [20]Behold, O Lord, how I am troubled: my bowels swell: mine heart is turned within me, for I am full of heaviness: the sword spoileth abroad, as death doth at home.
[21]They have heardH8085[H8804] that I sighH584[H8737]: there is none to comfortH5162[H8764] me: all mine enemiesH341[H8802] have heardH8085[H8804] of my troubleH7451; they are gladH7797[H8804] that thou hast doneH6213[H8804] it: thou wilt bringH935[H8689] the dayH3117 that thou hast calledH7121[H8804], and they shall be like unto meH3644. [21]They have heard that I mourn, but there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble, and are glad, that thou hast done it: thou wilt bring the day, that thou hast pronounced, and they shall be like unto me.
[22]Let all their wickednessH7451 comeH935[H8799] beforeH6440 thee; and doH5953[H8778] unto them, as thou hast doneH5953[H8782] unto me for all my transgressionsH6588: for my sighsH585 are manyH7227, and my heartH3820 is faintH1742. [22]Let all their wickedness come before thee: do unto them, as thou hast done unto me, for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and mine heart is heavy.
