| [1]AND they reached the port on the other side of the sea, in the country of the Gadarenes. |
[1]And they came over to the other side of the sea into the country of the Gadarenes. |
| [2]And as he went out of the boat, he was met by a man from the cemetery, who had an unclean spirit. |
[2]And when he was come out of the ship, there met him incontinently out of the graves, a man which had an unclean spirit: |
| [3]He lived in the cemetery, and no man could bind him in chains; |
[3]Who had his abiding among the graves, and no man could bind him, no not with chains: |
| [4]Because whenever he was bound with fetters and chains, he broke the chains and cut the fetters, and no man could control him. |
[4]Because that when he was often bound with fetters and chains, he plucked the chains asunder, and break the fetters in pieces, neither could any man tame him. |
| [5]And always, night and day, he was in the cemetery and in the mountains, crying aloud and cutting himself with stones. |
[5]And always both night and day he cried in the mountains, and in the graves, and struck himself with stones. |
| [6]When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him, |
[6]And when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran, and worshipped him, |
| [7]And he cried with a loud voice and said, What have we got together, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I adjure you by God, not to torment me. |
[7]And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus the Son of the most high God? I charge thee by God, that thou torment me not. |
| [8]For he said to him, Get out of the man, O you unclean spirit. |
[8](For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.) |
| [9]And he asked him, What is your name? And he said to him, Our name is Legion, because we are many. |
[9]And he asked him, What is thy name? and he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. |
| [10]And he begged him much that he would not send him out of the country. |
[10]And he prayed him instantly, that he would not send them away out of the country. |
| [11]Now there was there, near the mountain a large herd of swine feeding. |
[11]Now there was there in the mountains a great herd of swine, feeding. |
| [12]And the lunatics begged him saying, Send us to the swine, that we may attack them. |
[12]And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. |
| [13]And he permitted them. And the lunatics went out, and attacked the swine; and the herd ran to the steep rocks, and fell into the sea; they were about two thousand, and they were drowned in the water. |
[13]And incontinently Jesus gave them leave. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine, and the herd ran headlong from the high bank into the sea, (and there were about two thousand swine) and they were drowned in the sea. |
| [14]And those who fed them, fled, and told it in the city and also in the villages. So they went out to see what had happened. |
[14]And the swineherds fled, and told it in the city, and in the country, and they came out to see what it was that was done. |
| [15]And they came to Jesus, and saw the lunatic, clothed and well behaved, and sitting down; even the one who once had the legion within him; and they were afraid. |
[15]And they came to Jesus, and saw him that had been possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sit both clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. |
| [16]And those who saw it told them just how it happened to the lunatic and also to the swine. |
[16]And they that saw it, told them, what was done to him that was possessed with the devil, and concerning the swine. |
| [17]So they began to urge him to leave their border. |
[17]Then they began to pray him, that he would depart from their coasts. |
| [18]As he went up to the boat, the lunatic begged him to remain with him. |
[18]And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil, prayed him that he might be with him. |
| [19]And he would not permit him, but said to him, Go to your home, to your own people, and tell them what the Lord has done for you, and had mercy on you. |
[19]Howbeit, Jesus would not suffer him, but said unto him, Go thy way home to thy friends, and show them what great things the Lord hath done unto thee, and how he hath had compassion on thee. |
| [20]And he went away, and began to preach in the ten cities about what Jesus had done for him; and they were all surprised. |
[20]So he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis, what great things Jesus had done unto him: and all men did marvel. |
| [21]When Jesus crossed in the boat to the other side, large crowds again gathered around him, while he was by the sea. |
[21]And when Jesus was come over again by ship unto the other side, a great multitude gathered to him, and he was near unto the sea. |
| [22]And there came one of the leaders of the synagogue, whose name was Jairus; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, |
[22]And behold, there came one of the rulers of the Synagogue, whose name was Jairus: and when he saw him, he fell down at his feet, |
| [23]And he beseeched him much and said to him, My daughter is very seriously ill; come and lay your hand on her, and she will be healed, and live. |
[23]And besought him instantly, saying, My little daughter lieth at point of death: I pray thee that thou wouldest come and lay thine hands on her, that she may be healed, and live. |
| [24]So Jesus went with him; and a large multitude followed him, and they pressed on him. |
[24]Then he went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and thronged him. |
| [25]And there was a woman who had had the hemorrhage for twelve years, |
[25](And there was a certain woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, |
| [26]Who had suffered much at the hands of many doctors, and had spent everything she had, and was not helped at all, but rather became worse. |
[26]And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and it availed her nothing, but she became much worse. |
| [27]When she heard concerning Jesus, she came through the dense crowd from behind him, and touched his cloak. |
[27]When she had heard of Jesus, she came in the press behind, and touched his garment. |
| [28]For she said, If I can only touch his cloak, I will live. |
[28]For she said, If I may but touch his clothes, I shall be whole. |
| [29]And immediately the hemorrhage was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. |
[29]And straightway the course of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body, that she was healed of that plague. |
| [30]Jesus instantly knew that some power had gone out of him; so he turned around to the people and said, Who touched my garments? |
[30]And immediately when Jesus did know in himself the virtue that went out of him, he turned him round about in the press, and said, Who hath touched my clothes? |
| [31]His disciples said to him, You see the people pressing on you, and yet you say, Who touched me? |
[31]And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude throng thee, and sayest thou, Who did touch me? |
| [32]And he was looking round to see who had done this. |
[32]And he looked round about, to see her that had done that. |
| [33]But the woman, frightened and trembling, because she knew what had happened to her, came and fell before him and told him the whole truth. |
[33]And the woman feared and trembled: for she knew what was done in her, and she came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. |
| [34]He said to her, My daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, and be healed of your disease. |
[34]And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole: go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.) |
| [35]While he was still talking, some men came from the house of the leader of the synagogue, saying, Your daughter is dead; why do you trouble the Teacher? |
[35]While he yet spake, there came from the same ruler of the Synagogues house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why diseasest thou the Master any further? |
| [36]Jesus heard the word which they spoke, and he said to the leader of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe. |
[36]As soon as Jesus heard that word spoken, he said unto the ruler of the Synagogue, Be not afraid: only believe. |
| [37]And he did not permit any man to go with him, except Simon Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. |
[37]And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter and James, and John the brother of James. |
| [38]And they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, and he saw them in a tumult, weeping and wailing. |
[38]So he came unto the house of the ruler of the Synagogue, and saw the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. |
| [39]So he entered and said to them, Why are you excited and crying? The little girl is not dead, but she is asleep. |
[39]And he went in, and said unto them, Why make ye this trouble, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth. |
| [40]And they laughed at him. But Jesus put them all out, and took the little girl's father and mother and those who were with him, and he entered where the little girl was laid. |
[40]And they laughed him to scorn: but he put them all out, and took the father, and the mother of the child, and them that were with him, and entered in where the child lay, |
| [41]And he took the little girl by her hand, and said to her, Talitha, koomi, which means, Little girl, rise up. |
[41]And took the child by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is by interpretation, Maiden, I say unto thee, arise. |
| [42]And immediately the little girl got up and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. |
[42]And straightway the maiden arose, and walked: for she was of the age of twelve years, and they were astonished out of measure. |
| [43]But he commanded them that no man should know this; and he told them to give her something to eat. |
[43]And he charged them straightly that no man should know of it, and commanded to give her meat. |
