PesNT(lit)
Peshitta NT (Etheridge, 1849)
PesNT(Eth)
[1]Pay attention but in your charity-giving that not you do it before sons of men so that you may be seen by them otherwise reward there is no for you with your Father in Heaven [1]SEE that in your almsgiving you do it not before men, so as that you may be observed by them; otherwise no reward is for you with your Father who is in heaven.
[2]When therefore do you charity-giving not you shall blast a trumpet before you like do receivers of faces in the synagogues and in the streets so that they may be glorified from sons of men and truly say I to you they have received their reward [2]When, therefore, thou art doing alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as do the assumers of faces in the assemblies and streets, so that they may be praised from men; and, Amen I say to you, they receive their reward.
[3]You but whenever do you charity giving not let know your left what? is doing your right [3]But thou, when thou art doing thy alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth,
[4]So that may be your charity in secret and your Father Who sees in secret He will reward you in public [4]That thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee in openness.
[5]And when pray you not you will be like receivers of faces who like to stand in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets to pray that they appear to children of men and truly say I to you they have received their reward [5]And when thou prayest, be not as the face-takers, who love to stand in the assemblies and at the corners of the streets to pray, that they may be seen of men; and truly I say to you that they receive their reward.
[6]You but when pray you enter your closet and lock your door and pray to your Father Who is in secret and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you in public [6]But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy secret chamber, and shut thy door, and pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee in openness.
[7]And whenever praying you are not you shall be verbose like the heathen they think for that by speaking much they are heard [7]And when thou art praying, be not wordy, like the profane; for they think that in much speaking they are heard.
[8]Not therefore you shall be like to them your Father for knows what? is needed to you before you ask Him [8]Be you not like them, for your Father knoweth what is needful for you before that you ask him.
[9]Thus therefore pray you our Father Who are in Heaven hallowed be Your Name [9]Thus pray: Our Father who art in the heavens! be sanctified thy Name.
[10]Let come thy Kingdom let be done Your will just as in Heaven also in the earth [10]Come thy kingdom. Be done thy will, as in heaven, also in earth.
[11]Give to us the bread of our need today [11]Give to us the bread of our need to-day;
[12]And forgive us our debts just as also we forgive our debtors [12]And forgive us our debts, as also we forgive our debtors;
[13]And not lead us to temptation but deliver us from evil because Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory to an age of ages [13]And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory to the age of ages.
[14]If for you forgive the children of men their faults will forgive also you your Father Who is in Heaven [14]For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Father who is in heaven will forgive you also.
[15]If but not you will forgive the children of men neither your Father has forgiven you your faults [15]But if you will not forgive men, your Father also forgiveth not your trespasses unto you.
[16]When but fasting you are not be sad like receivers of faces they disfigure for their faces so that they may appear to the children of men to fast and truly say I to you that they have received their reward [16]WHEN, too, you fast, be not morosely sad as the assumers of faces, for they defile their countenances so as that they may appear unto men to fast: and, Amen I say unto you, they receive their reward.
[17]You but whenever will fast you wash your face and anoint your head [17]But thou, when thou art fasting, wash thy face and anoint thine head,
[18]So that not you may appear to the children of men that fasting you are but to your Father Who is in secret and your Father Who sees in secret He will reward you [18]That it may not appear to men that thou art fasting, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, he shall reward thee.
[19]Not you shall place for yourselves treasures on the earth where moths and corrosion are disfiguring and where thieves break in and steal [19]Lay not up for yourselves treasures in the earth, a place where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves dig through and steal:
[20]But place for yourselves treasures in Heaven where neither moths nor corrosion are disfiguring and where thieves neither break in nor steal [20]But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where no moth and no rust corrupt, and where thieves do not dig through and steal.
[21]Where for is your treasure there is also your heart [21]For where your treasure is, there also your hearts are.
[22]The lamp of the body is the eye if your eye therefore shall be sound also whole your body illuminated will be [22]The lamp of the body is the eye: if thine eye therefore be perfect, thy whole body will be illuminated;
[23]If but your eye shall be evil entire your body darkness will be if therefore the light that is in you darkness is your darkness how great! will be [23]But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, what will thy darkness be?
[24]No man is able for two masters to work either for one he will hate and the other he will like or one he will honor and the other he will neglect not able you are for Alaha to work and for money [24]No man can serve two lords; for the one he will hate, and the other he will love, or the one he will honour, and the other he will neglect: you cannot serve Aloha and riches.
[25]Because of this say I to you not you should worry for yourselves what? you will eat or what? you will drink neither for your body what? you will put on not? behold the soul is greater than food and the body than clothing [25]WHEREFORE I say unto you, Let not your souls be anxious what you shall eat and what you shall drink, and for your bodies what you shall wear. Is not the life more excellent than food, and the body than raiment?
[26]Behold the birds of the heavens that neither do they sow nor do they reap neither do they gather into barns and your Father Who is in Heaven sustains them not? behold you better are than they [26]Behold the fowls of the heaven; they sow not, neither do they reap, nor collect into granaries; yet your Father who is in heaven nourisheth them: are you not far more considerable than they?
[27]Who? but from you when worrying is able to add on his stature cubit one [27]But who among you by being anxious can add to his stature one cubit?
[28]And about clothing why? worry do you consider the lilies of the field how they grow without laboring neither weaving [28]And concerning raiment why are you anxious? Look upon the lilies of the wilderness how they increase; they toil not, neither do they spin.
[29]Say I to you but that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these [29]Yet I say to you, Not even Shelemun in all his glory was covered like one from among these.
[30]If but the grass of the field that today is and tomorrow will be cast into the oven Alaha thus clothes not? does He multiply more to you little ones of faith [30]But if the herb of the field, which to-day exists, and tomorrow falleth into the oven, Aloha thus clotheth, how much more you, little of faith?
[31]Not therefore you shall worry or you shall say what? will we eat or what? will we drink or what? will we wear [31]Be not anxious, therefore, nor say, What shall we eat, or, What shall we drink, or, How shall we be covered?
[32]All for these the nations are seeking things your Father but Who is in Heaven knows that also for you are necessary these things all [32]For after all these things do the people of the world inquire: but your Father who is in heaven knoweth that also by you are required these all.
[33]Seek but first the Kingdom of Alaha and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you [33]But seek first the kingdom of Aloha and his righteousness, and all these shall be added unto you.
[34]Not therefore shall you worry of tomorrow it for tomorrow will worry of itself is sufficient for it for the day its evil [34]Be not therefore anxious for to-morrow; the morrow shall care for its own: the evil of to-day is enough for it.
