[1]Now in the twentyH6242 and fourthH702 dayH3117 of this monthH2320 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were assembledH622[H8738] with fastingH6685, and with sackclothesH8242, and earth upon themH127. [1]In the twentie and fourth day of this moneth, came the children of Israel together againe, with fasting, and sackeclothes, and earth vpon them
[2]And the seedH2233 of IsraelH3478 separatedH914[H8735] themselves from all strangersH1121[H5236], and stoodH5975[H8799] and confessedH3034[H8691] their sinsH2403, and the iniquitiesH5771 of their fathersH1. [2]And they that were of the seede of Israel, were separated from all the straunge children, and stoode & knowledged their sinnes, & the wickednes of their fathers
[3]And they stood upH6965[H8799] in their placeH5977, and readH7121[H8799] in the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 of the LORDH3068 their GodH430 one fourth partH7243 of the dayH3117; and another fourth partH7243 they confessedH3034[H8693], and worshippedH7812[H8693] the LORDH3068 their GodH430. [3]And stoode vp in their place, & read in the booke of the law of the Lorde their God foure times on the day, and they knowledged and worshipped the Lord their God foure times on the day
[4]Then stood upH6965[H8799] upon the stairsH4608, of the LevitesH3881, JeshuaH3442, and BaniH1137, KadmielH6934, ShebaniahH7645, BunniH1138, SherebiahH8274, BaniH1137, and ChenaniH3662, and criedH2199[H8799] with a loudH1419 voiceH6963 unto the LORDH3068 their GodH430. [4]Then stoode vpon the stayres of the Leuites, Iesua, Bani, Cadmiel, Sabaniah, Bunni, Serebiah, Bani, and Chanani, and cryed loude vnto the Lorde their God
[5]Then the LevitesH3881, JeshuaH3442, and KadmielH6934, BaniH1137, HashabniahH2813, SherebiahH8274, HodijahH1941, ShebaniahH7645, and PethahiahH6611, saidH559[H8799], Stand upH6965[H8798] and blessH1288[H8761] the LORDH3068 your GodH430 for everH5769 and everH5769: and blessedH1288[H8762] be thy gloriousH3519 nameH8034, which is exaltedH7311[H8784] above all blessingH1293 and praiseH8416. [5]And the Leuites, Iesua, and Cadmiel, Bani, and Hasabnia, Serebiah, and Hodia, Sebania, and Phathahia, sayde: Stand vp, and prayse the Lorde your God for euer, and let thankes be geue vnto the name of thy glory, which excelleth all thankes geuing and prayse
[6]Thou, even thou, art LORDH3068 alone; thou hast madeH6213[H8804] heavenH8064, the heavenH8064 of heavensH8064, with all their hostH6635, the earthH776, and all things that are therein, the seasH3220, and all that is therein, and thou preservestH2421[H8764] them all; and the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 worshippethH7812 theeH8693. [6]Thou art Lorde alone, thou hast made heauen and the heauen of all heauens with all their hoast, the earth and all thinges that are therein, the sea & all that is therin, & thou preseruest them al, & the hoast of heauen worshippeth thee
[7]Thou art the LORDH3068 the GodH430, who didst chooseH977[H8804] AbramH87, and broughtest him forthH3318[H8689] out of UrH218 of the ChaldeesH3778, and gavestH7760[H8804] him the nameH8034 of AbrahamH85; [7]Thou art, O Lorde, the God that hast chosen Abraham, and broughtest him out of Ur in Chaldea, and calledst him Abraham
[8]And foundestH4672[H8804] his heartH3824 faithfulH539[H8737] beforeH6440 thee, and madestH3772[H8800] a covenantH1285 with him to giveH5414[H8800] the landH776 of the CanaanitesH3669, the HittitesH2850, the AmoritesH567, and the PerizzitesH6522, and the JebusitesH2983, and the GirgashitesH1622, to giveH5414[H8800] it, I say, to his seedH2233, and hast performedH6965[H8686] thy wordsH1697; for thou art righteousH6662: [8]And foundest his heart faithfull before thee, & madest a couenaunt with him, to geue vnto his seede the lande of the Chanaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Pherezites, Iebusites, and Gergesites, and hast made good thy wordes: for thou art righteous
[9]And didst seeH7200[H8799] the afflictionH6040 of our fathersH1 in EgyptH4714, and heardestH8085[H8804] their cryH2201 by the RedH5488 seaH3220; [9]And hast considered the miserie of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their complaynt by the red sea
[10]And shewedstH5414[H8799] signsH226 and wondersH4159 upon PharaohH6547, and on all his servantsH5650, and on all the peopleH5971 of his landH776: for thou knewestH3045[H8804] that they dealt proudlyH2102[H8689] against them. So didst thou getH6213[H8799] thee a nameH8034, as it is this dayH3117. [10]And shewed tokens and wonders vpon Pharao and all his seruauntes, and on all the people of his lande: For thou knowest that they were presumptuous and cruell against them: and so madest thou thee a name as it is this day
[11]And thou didst divideH1234[H8804] the seaH3220 beforeH6440 them, so that they went throughH5674[H8799] the midstH8432 of the seaH3220 on the dry landH3004; and their persecutorsH7291[H8802] thou threwestH7993[H8689] into the deepsH4688, as a stoneH68 into the mightyH5794 watersH4325. [11]And the [red] sea diddest thou deuide in sunder before them, so that they went through the middest of the sea drye shod: and their persecuters threwest thou into the deepe, as a stone in the mightie waters
[12]Moreover thou leddestH5148[H8689] them in the dayH3119 by a cloudyH6051 pillarH5982; and in the nightH3915 by a pillarH5982 of fireH784, to give them lightH215[H8687] in the wayH1870 wherein they should goH3212.[H8799] [12]And leddest them on the day time in a cloudie piller, and on the night season in a piller of fyre, to shewe them light in the way that they went
[13]Thou camest downH3381[H8804] also upon mountH2022 SinaiH5514, and spakestH1696[H8763] with them from heavenH8064, and gavestH5414[H8799] them rightH3477 judgmentsH4941, and trueH571 lawsH8451, goodH2896 statutesH2706 and commandmentsH4687: [13]Thou camest downe also vpon mount Sinai, and speakest vnto them from heauen, and gauest them right iudgementes, true lawes, good commaundementes and statutes
[14]And madest knownH3045[H8689] unto them thy holyH6944 sabbathH7676, and commandedstH6680[H8765] them preceptsH4687, statutesH2706, and lawsH8451, by the handH3027 of MosesH4872 thy servantH5650: [14]And declaredst vnto them thy holy Sabbath, and commaundedst them preceptes, ordinaunces, and lawes, by the hande of Moyses thy seruaunt
[15]And gavestH5414[H8804] them breadH3899 from heavenH8064 for their hungerH7458, and broughtest forthH3318[H8689] waterH4325 for them out of the rockH5553 for their thirstH6772, and promisedstH559[H8799] them that they should go inH935[H8800] to possessH3423[H8800] the landH776 which thou hadst swornH3027[H5375][H8804] to giveH5414 themH8800. [15]And gauest them bread from heauen when they were hungry, and broughtest foorth water for them out of the rocke when they were thirstye, and promysedst them that they should go in and take possession of the lande ouer which thou haddest lyft vp thyne hand for to geue them
[16]But they and our fathersH1 dealt proudlyH2102[H8689], and hardenedH7185[H8686] their necksH6203, and hearkenedH8085[H8804] not to thy commandmentsH4687, [16]But they and our fathers were proud and hardnecked, so that they folowed not thy commaundementes
[17]And refusedH3985[H8762] to obeyH8085[H8800], neither were mindfulH2142[H8804] of thy wondersH6381[H8737] that thou didstH6213[H8804] among them; but hardenedH7185[H8686] their necksH6203, and in their rebellionH4805 appointedH5414[H8799] a captainH7218 to returnH7725[H8800] to their bondageH5659: but thou art a GodH433 ready to pardonH5547, graciousH2587 and mercifulH7349, slowH750 to angerH639, and of greatH7227 kindnessH2617, and forsookestH5800 them notH8804. [17]And woulde not obey, neither were mindeful of the wonders that thou diddest for the: but hardened their neckes, and had in their heades to returne to their bondage by their rebellion: But thou O God of mercies, gracious, and full of compassion, of long suffering, and of great mercie, yet forsookest them not
[18]Yea, when they had madeH6213[H8804] them a moltenH4541 calfH5695, and saidH559[H8799], This is thy GodH430 that brought thee upH5927[H8689] out of EgyptH4714, and had wroughtH6213[H8799] greatH1419 provocationsH5007; [18]Moreouer, when they had made them a moulten calfe, and saide. This is thy God that brought thee out of the lande of Egypt, and did blasphemies
[19]Yet thou in thy manifoldH7227 merciesH7356 forsookestH5800[H8804] them not in the wildernessH4057: the pillarH5982 of the cloudH6051 departedH5493[H8804] not from them by dayH3119, to leadH5148[H8687] them in the wayH1870; neither the pillarH5982 of fireH784 by nightH3915, to shew them lightH215[H8687], and the wayH1870 wherein they should goH3212.[H8799] [19]Yet forsookest thou them not in the wildernesse, according to thy great mercies: And the cloudy piller departed not from them on the day time to leade the the way, neither the piller of fire in the night season, to shewe them light in the way by which they should go
[20]Thou gavestH5414[H8804] also thy goodH2896 spiritH7307 to instructH7919[H8687] them, and withheldestH4513[H8804] not thy mannaH4478 from their mouthH6310, and gavestH5414[H8804] them waterH4325 for their thirstH6772. [20]And thou gauest them thy good spirite to enfourme them, and withheldest not thy Manna from their mouth, and gauest them water when they were thirstie
[21]Yea, fortyH705 yearsH8141 didst thou sustainH3557[H8773] them in the wildernessH4057, so that they lackedH2637[H8804] nothing; their clothesH8008 waxed not oldH1086[H8804], and their feetH7272 swelledH1216 notH8804. [21]Fourtie yeres long didst thou feede them in the wildernesse, so that they lacked nothing: their clothes waxed not olde, and their feete swelled not
[22]Moreover thou gavestH5414[H8799] them kingdomsH4467 and nationsH5971, and didst divideH2505[H8799] them into cornersH6285: so they possessedH3423[H8799] the landH776 of SihonH5511, and the landH776 of the kingH4428 of HeshbonH2809, and the landH776 of OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316. [22]And thou gauest them kingdomes and nations, and scatteredst them into corners: so they possessed the lande of Sehon and the lande of the king of Hesebon, and the lande of Og king of Basan
[23]Their childrenH1121 also multipliedstH7235[H8689] thou as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064, and broughtestH935[H8686] them into the landH776, concerning which thou hadst promisedH559[H8804] to their fathersH1, that they should go inH935[H8800] to possessH3423 itH8800. [23]And their children multipliedst thou as the starres of heauen, and broughtest them into the lande whereof thou haddest spoken to their fathers, that they should go into it, and haue it in possession
[24]So the childrenH1121 went inH935[H8799] and possessedH3423[H8799] the landH776, and thou subduedstH3665[H8686] beforeH6440 them the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the landH776, the CanaanitesH3669, and gavestH5414[H8799] them into their handsH3027, with their kingsH4428, and the peopleH5971 of the landH776, that they might doH6213[H8800] with them as they wouldH7522. [24]And the children went in, and possessed the lande, and thou subduedst before them the inhabiters of the lande, euen the Chanaanites, and gauest them into their handes, with their kinges and the people of the lande, that they might do with them what they would
[25]And they tookH3920[H8799] strongH1219[H8803] citiesH5892, and a fatH8082 landH127, and possessedH3423[H8799] housesH1004 fullH4392 of all goodsH2898, wellsH953 diggedH2672[H8803], vineyardsH3754, and oliveyardsH2132, and fruitH3978 treesH6086 in abundanceH7230: so they did eatH398[H8799], and were filledH7646[H8799], and became fatH8080[H8686], and delightedH5727[H8691] themselves in thy greatH1419 goodnessH2898. [25]And they wanne their strong cities, and a fat lande, and toke possession of houses that were full of all maner of goodes, welles digged out, vineyards, oliue gardens, & many fruiteful trees: and they did eate, and were filled, and became fat, and liued in pleasure through thy great goodnesse
[26]Nevertheless they were disobedientH4784[H8686], and rebelledH4775[H8799] against thee, and castH7993[H8686] thy lawH8451 behindH310 their backsH1458, and slewH2026[H8804] thy prophetsH5030 which testifiedH5749[H8689] against them to turnH7725[H8687] them to thee, and they wroughtH6213[H8799] greatH1419 provocationsH5007. [26]Neuerthelesse, they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behinde their backes, & slue their prophetes, which exhorted them earnestly that they might bring them againe vnto thee, and did great blasphemies
[27]Therefore thou deliveredstH5414[H8799] them into the handH3027 of their enemiesH6862, who vexedH6887[H8686] them: and in the timeH6256 of their troubleH6869, when they criedH6817[H8799] unto thee, thou heardestH8085[H8799] them from heavenH8064; and according to thy manifoldH7227 merciesH7356 thou gavestH5414[H8799] them savioursH3467[H8688], who savedH3467[H8686] them out of the handH3027 of their enemiesH6862. [27]Therefore thou gauest them ouer into the hand of their enemies that vexed them: And in the time of their trouble whe they cryed vnto thee thou heardest them from heauen, and through thy great mercie thou gauest them sauiours which helped them out of the hande of their enemies
[28]But after they had restH5117[H8800], they didH6213[H8800] evilH7451 againH7725[H8799] beforeH6440 thee: therefore leftestH5800[H8799] thou them in the handH3027 of their enemiesH341[H8802], so that they had the dominionH7287[H8799] over them: yet when they returnedH7725[H8799], and criedH2199[H8799] unto thee, thou heardestH8085[H8799] them from heavenH8064; and manyH7227 timesH6256 didst thou deliverH5337[H8686] them according to thy merciesH7356; [28]But when they came to rest, they turned backe againe to do euill before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hande of their enemies, so that they had the dominion ouer them: And when they conuerted, & cryed vnto thee, thou heardest them from heauen, and many times hast thou deliuered them according to thy great mercie
[29]And testifiedstH5749[H8686] against them, that thou mightest bring them againH7725[H8687] unto thy lawH8451: yet they dealt proudlyH2102[H8689], and hearkenedH8085[H8804] not unto thy commandmentsH4687, but sinnedH2398[H8804] against thy judgmentsH4941, (which if a manH120 doH6213[H8799], he shall liveH2421[H8804] in them;) and withdrewH5414[H8799][H5637][H8802] the shoulderH3802, and hardenedH7185[H8689] their neckH6203, and would not hearH8085.[H8804] [29]And testifiedst vnto them, that thou mightest bring them againe vnto thy lawe: Notwithstanding, they were proude, and hearkened not vnto thy commaundementes, but sinned in thy lawes, which if a man do, he shall lyue in them: and turned the shoulder away, and were stiffenecked, and would not heare
[30]Yet manyH7227 yearsH8141 didst thou forbearH4900[H8799] them, and testifiedstH5749[H8686] against them by thy spiritH7307 inH3027 thy prophetsH5030: yet would they not give earH238[H8689]: therefore gavestH5414[H8799] thou them into the handH3027 of the peopleH5971 of the landsH776. [30]Yet many yeres diddest thou forbeare them, and testifiedst vnto them through thy spirite, euen by the hand of thy prophetes, and yet would they not heare: therefore gauest thou them into the hand of the nations of the landes
[31]Nevertheless for thy greatH7227 mercies'H7356 sake thou didstH6213[H8804] not utterly consumeH3617 them, nor forsakeH5800[H8804] them; for thou art a graciousH2587 and mercifulH7349 GodH410. [31]And for thy great mercies sake, thou hast not vtterly consumed them, neither forsaken them: for thou art a gratious and mercifull God
[32]Now therefore, our GodH430, the greatH1419, the mightyH1368, and the terribleH3372[H8737] GodH410, who keepestH8104[H8802] covenantH1285 and mercyH2617, let not all the troubleH8513 seem littleH4591[H8799] beforeH6440 thee, that hath comeH4672[H8804] upon us, on our kingsH4428, on our princesH8269, and on our priestsH3548, and on our prophetsH5030, and on our fathersH1, and on all thy peopleH5971, since the timeH3117 of the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 unto this dayH3117. [32]Now therfore our God, thou great God mightie and terrible, thou that kepest couenaunt and mercie, regarde not a litle al the trauaile that hath come vnto vs, and our kinges, our princes, our priestes, our prophetes, and our fathers, and all the people since the time of the kinges of Assur, vnto this day
[33]Howbeit thou art justH6662 in all that is broughtH935[H8802] upon us; for thou hast doneH6213[H8804] rightH571, but we have done wickedlyH7561:[H8689] [33]And truely thou art iust in al that thou hast brought vpon vs, for thou hast done right: As for vs, we haue ben vngodly
[34]Neither have our kingsH4428, our princesH8269, our priestsH3548, nor our fathersH1, keptH6213[H8804] thy lawH8451, nor hearkenedH7181[H8689] unto thy commandmentsH4687 and thy testimoniesH5715, wherewith thou didst testifyH5749 against themH8689. [34]And our kinges, and our princes, our priestes, and our fathers, haue not done thy lawe, nor regarded thy commaundementes, and thy earnest exhortations, wherewith thou hast exhorted them
[35]For they have not servedH5647[H8804] thee in their kingdomH4438, and in thy greatH7227 goodnessH2898 that thou gavestH5414[H8804] them, and in the largeH7342 and fatH8082 landH776 which thou gavestH5414[H8804] beforeH6440 them, neither turnedH7725[H8804] they from their wickedH7451 worksH4611. [35]And they haue not serued thee in their kingdome, and in thy great goodnesse that thou gauest them, and in the large and plenteous lande which thou gauest before them, and haue not conuerted from their wicked workes
[36]Behold, we are servantsH5650 this dayH3117, and for the landH776 that thou gavestH5414[H8804] unto our fathersH1 to eatH398[H8800] the fruitH6529 thereof and the goodH2898 thereof, behold, we are servants in itH5650: [36]Beholde, we are in bondage this day, and so is the lande that thou gauest vnto our fathers to eate the fruites and goodnesse thereof, beholde there are we bondmen
[37]And it yieldeth muchH7235[H8688] increaseH8393 unto the kingsH4428 whom thou hast setH5414[H8804] over us because of our sinsH2403: also they have dominionH4910[H8802] over our bodiesH1472, and over our cattleH929, at their pleasureH7522, and we are in greatH1419 distressH6869. [37]And great is the increase of it vnto the kinges whom thou hast set ouer vs because of our sinnes, and they haue dominion ouer our bodies and cattaile, euen as they wyll them selues: and we are in great trouble
[38]And because of all this we makeH3772[H8802] a sureH548 covenant, and writeH3789[H8802] it; and our princesH8269, LevitesH3881, and priestsH3548, sealH2856 unto itH8803. [38]Now because of all this make we a sure couenaunt and write it, & our princes, leuites, and priestes, seale vnto it
