[1]And the Lord spake unto Moses in the plain of Moab by Jordan, toward Jericho, saying, |
| [2]CommandH6680[H8761] the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, that they giveH5414[H8804] unto the LevitesH3881 of the inheritanceH5159 of their possessionH272 citiesH5892 to dwell inH3427[H8800]; and ye shall giveH5414[H8799] also unto the LevitesH3881 suburbsH4054 for the citiesH5892 round about themH5439. |
[2]Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession, cities to dwell in: ye shall give also unto the Levites the suburbs of the cities round about them. |
| [3]And the citiesH5892 shall they have to dwell inH3427[H8800]; and the suburbsH4054 of them shall be for their cattleH929, and for their goodsH7399, and for all their beastsH2416. |
[3]So they shall have the cities to dwell in, and their suburbs shall be for their cattle, and for their substance, and for all their beasts. |
| [4]And the suburbsH4054 of the citiesH5892, which ye shall giveH5414[H8799] unto the LevitesH3881, shall reach from the wallH7023 of the cityH5892 and outwardH2351 a thousandH505 cubitsH520 round aboutH5439. |
[4]And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, from the wall of the city outward, shall be a thousand cubits round about. |
| [5]And ye shall measureH4058[H8804] from withoutH2351 the cityH5892 on the eastH6924 sideH6285 two thousandH505 cubitsH520, and on the southH5045 sideH6285 two thousandH505 cubitsH520, and on the westH3220 sideH6285 two thousandH505 cubitsH520, and on the northH6828 sideH6285 two thousandH505 cubitsH520; and the cityH5892 shall be in the midstH8432: this shall be to them the suburbsH4054 of the citiesH5892. |
[5]And ye shall measure without the city of the east side, two thousand cubits: and of the south side, two thousand cubits: and of the west side, two thousand cubits: and of the north side, two thousand cubits: and the city shall be in the midst. This shall be the measure of the suburbs of their cities. |
| [6]And among the citiesH5892 which ye shall giveH5414[H8799] unto the LevitesH3881 there shall be sixH8337 citiesH5892 for refugeH4733, which ye shall appointH5414[H8799] for the manslayerH7523[H8802], that he may fleeH5127[H8800] thither: and to them ye shall addH5414[H8799] fortyH705 and twoH8147 citiesH5892. |
[6]And of the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint, that he which killeth, may flee thither: and to them ye shall add two and forty cities more. |
| [7]So all the citiesH5892 which ye shall giveH5414[H8799] to the LevitesH3881 shall be fortyH705 and eightH8083 citiesH5892: them shall ye give with their suburbsH4054. |
[7]All the cities which ye shall give to the Levites, shall be eight and forty cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs. |
| [8]And the citiesH5892 which ye shall giveH5414[H8799] shall be of the possessionH272 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: from them that have manyH7227 ye shall give manyH7235[H8686]; but from them that have fewH4592 ye shall give fewH4591[H8686]: every oneH376 shall giveH5414[H8799] of his citiesH5892 unto the LevitesH3881 accordingH6310 to his inheritanceH5159 which he inheritethH5157.[H8799] |
[8]And concerning the cities which ye shall give, of the possession of the children of Israel: of many ye shall take more, and of few ye shall take less: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites, according to his inheritance, which he inheriteth. |

[9]And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, |
| [10]SpeakH1696[H8761] unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and sayH559[H8804] unto them, When ye be come overH5674[H8802] JordanH3383 into the landH776 of CanaanH3667; |
[10]Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan, |
| [11]Then ye shall appointH7136[H8689] you citiesH5892 to be citiesH5892 of refugeH4733 for you; that the slayerH7523[H8802] may fleeH5127[H8804] thither, which killethH5221[H8688] any personH5315 at unawaresH7684. |
[11]Ye shall appoint you cities, to be cities of refuge for you that the slayer, which slayeth any person unawares, may flee thither. |
| [12]And they shall be unto you citiesH5892 for refugeH4733 from the avengerH1350[H8802]; that the manslayerH7523[H8802] dieH4191[H8799] not, until he standH5975[H8800] beforeH6440 the congregationH5712 in judgmentH4941. |
[12]And these cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger, that he which killeth, die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment. |
| [13]And of these citiesH5892 which ye shall giveH5414[H8799] sixH8337 citiesH5892 shall ye have for refugeH4733. |
[13]And of the cities which ye shall give, six cities shall ye have for refuge. |
| [14]Ye shall giveH5414[H8799] threeH7969 citiesH5892 on this sideH5676 JordanH3383, and threeH7969 citiesH5892 shall ye giveH5414[H8799] in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, which shall be citiesH5892 of refugeH4733. |
[14]Ye shall appoint three on this side Jordan, and ye shall appoint three cities in the land of Canaan which shall be cities of refuge. |
| [15]These sixH8337 citiesH5892 shall be a refugeH4733, both for the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and for the strangerH1616, and for the sojournerH8453 amongH8432 them: that every one that killethH5221[H8688] any personH5315 unawaresH7684 may fleeH5127 thitherH8800. |
[15]These six cities shall be a refuge for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for him that dwelleth among you, that every one which killeth any person unawares, may flee thither. |
| [16]And if he smiteH5221[H8689] him with an instrumentH3627 of ironH1270, so that he dieH4191[H8799], he is a murdererH7523[H8802]: the murdererH7523[H8802] shall surelyH4191[H8800] be put to deathH4191.[H8714] |
[16]And if one smite another with an instrument of iron that he die, he is a murderer, and the murderer shall die the death. |
| [17]And if he smiteH5221[H8689] him with throwingH3027 a stoneH68, wherewith he may dieH4191[H8799], and he dieH4191[H8799], he is a murdererH7523[H8802]: the murdererH7523[H8802] shall surelyH4191[H8800] be put to deathH4191.[H8714] |
[17]Also if he smite him by casting a stone, wherewith he may be slain, and he die, he is a murderer, and the murderer shall die the death. |
| [18]Or if he smiteH5221[H8689] him with an handH3027 weaponH3627 of woodH6086, wherewith he may dieH4191[H8799], and he dieH4191[H8799], he is a murdererH7523[H8802]: the murdererH7523[H8802] shall surelyH4191[H8800] be put to deathH4191.[H8714] |
[18]Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may be slain, if he die, he is a murderer, and the murderer shall die the death. |
| [19]The revengerH1350[H8802] of bloodH1818 himself shall slayH4191[H8686] the murdererH7523[H8802]: when he meetethH6293[H8800] him, heH1931 shall slayH4191 himH8686. |
[19]The revenger of the blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him. |
| [20]But if he thrustH1920[H8799] him of hatredH8135, or hurlH7993[H8689] at him by laying of waitH6660, H4191that he dieH8799 |
[20]But if he thrust him of hate, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die, |
| [21]Or in enmityH342 smiteH5221[H8689] him with his handH3027, that he dieH4191[H8799]: he that smoteH5221[H8688] him shall surelyH4191[H8800] be put to deathH4191[H8714]; for he is a murdererH7523[H8802]: the revengerH1350[H8802] of bloodH1818 shall slayH4191[H8686] the murdererH7523[H8802], when he meetethH6293 himH8800. |
[21]Or smite him through enmity with his hand, that he die, he that smote him shall die the death: for he is a murderer: the revenger of the blood shall slay the murderer when he meeteth him. |
| [22]But if he thrustH1920[H8804] him suddenlyH6621 withoutH3808 enmityH342, or have castH7993[H8689] upon him any thingH3627 without laying of waitH6660, |
[22]But if he pushed him unadvisedly, and not of hatred, or cast upon him anything, without laying of wait, |
| [23]Or with any stoneH68, wherewith a man may dieH4191[H8799], seeingH7200[H8800] him notH3808, and castH5307[H8686] it upon him, that he dieH4191[H8799], and was not his enemyH341[H8802], neither soughtH1245[H8764] his harmH7451: |
[23]Or any stone (whereby he might be slain) and saw him not, or caused it to fall upon him, and he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought him any harm, |
| [24]Then the congregationH5712 shall judgeH8199[H8804] between the slayerH5221[H8688] and the revengerH1350[H8802] of bloodH1818 according to these judgmentsH4941: |
[24]Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the avenger of blood according to these laws. |
| [25]And the congregationH5712 shall deliverH5337[H8689] the slayerH7523[H8802] out of the handH3027 of the revengerH1350[H8802] of bloodH1818, and the congregationH5712 shall restoreH7725[H8689] him to the cityH5892 of his refugeH4733, whither he was fledH5127[H8804]: and he shall abideH3427[H8804] in it unto the deathH4194 of the highH1419 priestH3548, which was anointedH4886[H8804] with the holyH6944 oilH8081. |
[25]And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him unto the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide there unto the death of the high priest, which is anointed with the holy oil. |
| [26]But if the slayerH7523[H8802] shall at any timeH3318[H8800] comeH3318[H8799] without the borderH1366 of the cityH5892 of his refugeH4733, H5127whither he was fledH8799 |
[26]But if the slayer come without the borders of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled, |
| [27]And the revengerH1350[H8802] of bloodH1818 findH4672[H8804] him withoutH2351 the bordersH1366 of the cityH5892 of his refugeH4733, and the revengerH1350[H8802] of bloodH1818 killH7523[H8804] the slayerH7523[H8802]; he shall not be guilty of bloodH1818: |
[27]And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood slay the murderer, he shall be guiltless, |
| [28]Because he should have remainedH3427[H8799] in the cityH5892 of his refugeH4733 until the deathH4194 of the highH1419 priestH3548: but afterH310 the deathH4194 of the highH1419 priestH3548 the slayerH7523[H8802] shall returnH7725[H8799] into the landH776 of his possessionH272. |
[28]Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge, until the death of the high priest: and after the death of the high priest, the slayer shall return unto the land of his possession. |
| [29]So these things shall be for a statuteH2708 of judgmentH4941 unto you throughout your generationsH1755 in all your dwellingsH4186. |
[29]So these things shall be a law of judgment unto you, throughout your generations in all your dwellings. |
| [30]Whoso killethH5221[H8688] any personH5315, the murdererH7523[H8802] shall be put to deathH7523[H8799] by the mouthH6310 of witnessesH5707: but oneH259 witnessH5707 shall not testifyH6030[H8799] against any personH5315 to cause him to dieH4191.[H8800] |
[30]Whosoever killeth any person, the judge shall slay the murderer, through witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against a person to cause him to die. |
| [31]Moreover ye shall takeH3947[H8799] no satisfactionH3724 for the lifeH5315 of a murdererH7523[H8802], which is guiltyH7563 of deathH4191[H8800]: but he shall be surelyH4191[H8800] put to deathH4191.[H8714] |
[31]Moreover ye shall take no recompense for the life of the murderer, which is worthy to die: but he shall be put to death. |
| [32]And ye shall takeH3947[H8799] no satisfactionH3724 for him that is fledH5127[H8800] to the cityH5892 of his refugeH4733, that he should come againH7725[H8800] to dwellH3427[H8800] in the landH776, until the deathH4194 of the priestH3548. |
[32]Also ye shall take no recompense for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again, and dwell in the land, before the death of the high priest. |
| [33]So ye shall not polluteH2610[H8686] the landH776 wherein ye are: for bloodH1818 it defilethH2610[H8686] the landH776: and the landH776 cannot be cleansedH3722[H8792] of the bloodH1818 that is shedH8210[H8795] therein, but by the bloodH1818 of him that shedH8210 itH8802. |
[33]So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye shall dwell: for blood defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. |
| [34]DefileH2930[H8762] not therefore the landH776 which ye shall inhabitH3427[H8802], whereinH8432 I dwellH7931[H8802]: for I the LORDH3068 dwellH7931[H8802] amongH8432 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478. |
[34]Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, for I dwell in the midst thereof: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel. |
