| [3]The foolishness of a man perverteth his way, and his heart fretteth against the Lord. |
[3]ἀφροσύνη ἀνδρὸς λυμαίνεται τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ τὸν δὲ θεὸν αἰτιᾶται τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ |
| [4]Riches gather many friends: but the poor is separated from his neighbor. |
[4]πλοῦτος προστίθησιν φίλους πολλούς ὁ δὲ πτωχὸς καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑπάρχοντος φίλου λείπεται |
| [5]A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall not escape. |
[5]μάρτυς ψευδὴς οὐκ ἀτιμώρητος ἔσται ὁ δὲ ἐγκαλῶν ἀδίκως οὐ διαφεύξεται |
| [6]Many reverence the face of the prince, and every man is friend to him that giveth gifts. |
[6]πολλοὶ θεραπεύουσιν πρόσωπα βασιλέων πᾶς δὲ ὁ κακὸς γίνεται ὄνειδος ἀνδρί |
| [7]All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more will his friends depart far from him? Though he be instant with words, yet they will not. |
[7]πᾶς ὃς ἀδελφὸν πτωχὸν μισεῖ καὶ φιλίας μακρὰν ἔσται ἔννοια ἀγαθὴ τοῖς εἰδόσιν αὐτὴν ἐγγιεῖ ἀνὴρ δὲ φρόνιμος εὑρήσει αὐτήν ὁ πολλὰ κακοποιῶν τελεσιουργεῖ κακίαν ὃς δὲ ἐρεθίζει λόγους οὐ σωθήσεται |
| [8]He that possesseth understanding, loveth his own soul, and keepeth wisdom to find goodness. |
[8]ὁ κτώμενος φρόνησιν ἀγαπᾷ ἑαυτόν ὃς δὲ φυλάσσει φρόνησιν εὑρήσει ἀγαθά |
| [9]A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall perish. |
[9]μάρτυς ψευδὴς οὐκ ἀτιμώρητος ἔσται ὃς δ ἂν ἐκκαύσῃ κακίαν ἀπολεῖται ὑπ αὐτῆς |
| [10]Pleasure is not comely for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes. |
[10]οὐ συμφέρει ἄφρονι τρυφή καὶ ἐὰν οἰκέτης ἄρξηται μεθ ὕβρεως δυναστεύειν |
| [11]The discretion of man deferreth his anger: and his glory is to pass by an offense. |
[11]ἐλεήμων ἀνὴρ μακροθυμεῖ τὸ δὲ καύχημα αὐτοῦ ἐπέρχεται παρανόμοις |
| [12]The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion: but his favor is like the dew upon the grass. |
[12]βασιλέως ἀπειλὴ ὁμοία βρυγμῷ λέοντος ὥσπερ δὲ δρόσος ἐπὶ χόρτῳ οὕτως τὸ ἱλαρὸν αὐτοῦ |
| [13]A foolish son is the calamity of his father, and the contentions of a wife are like a continual dropping. |
[13]αἰσχύνη πατρὶ υἱὸς ἄφρων καὶ οὐχ ἁγναὶ εὐχαὶ ἀπὸ μισθώματος ἑταίρας |
| [14]House and riches are the inheritance of the fathers: but a prudent wife cometh of the Lord. |
[14]οἶκον καὶ ὕπαρξιν μερίζουσιν πατέρες παισίν παρὰ δὲ θεοῦ ἁρμόζεται γυνὴ ἀνδρί |
| [15]Slothfulness causeth to fall asleep, and a deceitful person shall be affamished. |
[15]δειλία κατέχει ἀνδρογύναιον ψυχὴ δὲ ἀεργοῦ πεινάσει |
| [16]He that keepeth the commandment, keepeth his own soul: but he that despiseth his ways, shall die. |
[16]ὃς φυλάσσει ἐντολήν τηρεῖ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχήν ὁ δὲ καταφρονῶν τῶν ἑαυτοῦ ὁδῶν ἀπολεῖται |
| [17]He that hath mercy upon the poor, lendeth unto the Lord: and the Lord will recompense him that which he hath given. |
[17]δανίζει θεῷ ὁ ἐλεῶν πτωχόν κατὰ δὲ τὸ δόμα αὐτοῦ ἀνταποδώσει αὐτῷ |
| [18]Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his murmuring. |
[18]παίδευε υἱόν σου οὕτως γὰρ ἔσται εὔελπις εἰς δὲ ὕβριν μὴ ἐπαίρου τῇ ψυχῇ σου |
| [19]A man of much anger shall suffer punishment: and though thou deliver him, yet will his anger come again. |
[19]κακόφρων ἀνὴρ πολλὰ ζημιωθήσεται ἐὰν δὲ λοιμεύηται καὶ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ προσθήσει |
| [20]Hear counsel and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. |
[20]ἄκουε υἱέ παιδείαν πατρός σου ἵνα σοφὸς γένῃ ἐπ ἐσχάτων σου |
| [21]Many devises are in a man's heart: but the counsel of the Lord shall stand. |
[21]πολλοὶ λογισμοὶ ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀνδρός ἡ δὲ βουλὴ τοῦ κυρίου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα μένει |
| [22]That that is to be desired of a man, is his goodness, and a poor man is better than a liar. |
[22]καρπὸς ἀνδρὶ ἐλεημοσύνη κρείσσων δὲ πτωχὸς δίκαιος ἢ πλούσιος ψεύστης |
| [23]The fear of the Lord leadeth to life: and he that is filled therewith, shall continue , and shall not be visited with evil. |
[23]φόβος κυρίου εἰς ζωὴν ἀνδρί ὁ δὲ ἄφοβος αὐλισθήσεται ἐν τόποις οὗ οὐκ ἐπισκοπεῖται γνῶσις |
| [24]The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not put it to his mouth again. |
[24]ὁ ἐγκρύπτων εἰς τὸν κόλπον αὐτοῦ χεῖρας ἀδίκως οὐδὲ τῷ στόματι οὐ μὴ προσαγάγῃ αὐτάς |
| [25]Smite a scorner, and the foolish will beware: and reprove the prudent, and he will understand knowledge. |
[25]λοιμοῦ μαστιγουμένου ἄφρων πανουργότερος γίνεται ἐὰν δὲ ἐλέγχῃς ἄνδρα φρόνιμον νοήσει αἴσθησιν |
| [26]He that destroyeth his father, or chaseth away his mother, is a lewd and shameful child. |
[26]ὁ ἀτιμάζων πατέρα καὶ ἀπωθούμενος μητέρα αὐτοῦ καταισχυνθήσεται καὶ ἐπονείδιστος ἔσται |
| [27]My son, hear no more the instruction, that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. |
[27]υἱὸς ἀπολειπόμενος φυλάξαι παιδείαν πατρὸς μελετήσει ῥήσεις κακάς |
| [28]A wicked witness mocketh at judgment, and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth up iniquity. |
[28]ὁ ἐγγυώμενος παῖδα ἄφρονα καθυβρίζει δικαίωμα στόμα δὲ ἀσεβῶν καταπίεται κρίσεις |
| [29]But judgments are prepared for the scorners, and stripes for the back of the fools. |
[29]ἑτοιμάζονται ἀκολάστοις μάστιγες καὶ τιμωρίαι ὤμοις ἀφρόνων |
