[1]Be not thou enviousH7065[H8762] against evilH7451 menH582, neither desireH183 to be with themH8691. [1]Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
[2]For their heartH3820 studiethH1897[H8799] destructionH7701, and their lipsH8193 talkH1696[H8762] of mischiefH5999. [2]For their heart imagineth destruction, and their lips speak mischief.
[3]Through wisdomH2451 is an houseH1004 buildedH1129[H8735]; and by understandingH8394 it is establishedH3559:[H8709] [3]Through wisdom is an house builded, and with understanding it is established.
[4]And by knowledgeH1847 shall the chambersH2315 be filledH4390[H8735] with all preciousH3368 and pleasantH5273 richesH1952. [4]And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious, and pleasant riches.
[5]A wiseH2450 manH1397 is strongH5797; yea, a manH376 of knowledgeH1847 increasethH553[H8764] strengthH3581. [5]A wise man is strong: for a man of understanding increaseth his strength.
[6]For by wise counselH8458 thou shalt makeH6213[H8799] thy warH4421: and in multitudeH7230 of counsellorsH3289[H8802] there is safetyH8668. [6]For with counsel thou shalt enterprise thy war, and in the multitude of them that can give counsel, is health.
[7]WisdomH2454 is too highH7311[H8802] for a foolH191: he openethH6605[H8799] not his mouthH6310 in the gateH8179. [7]Wisdom is high to a fool: therefore he cannot open his mouth in the gate.
[8]He that devisethH2803[H8764] to do evilH7489[H8687] shall be calledH7121[H8799] a mischievousH4209 personH1167. [8]He that imagineth to do evil, men shall call him an author of wickedness.
[9]The thoughtH2154 of foolishnessH200 is sinH2403: and the scornerH3887[H8801] is an abominationH8441 to menH120. [9]The wicked thought of a fool is sin, and the scorner is an abomination unto men.
[10]If thou faintH7503[H8694] in the dayH3117 of adversityH6869, thy strengthH3581 is smallH6862. [10]If thou be faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
[11]If thou forbearH2820[H8799] to deliverH5337[H8685] them that are drawnH3947[H8803] unto deathH4194, and those that are readyH4131[H8801] to be slainH2027; [11]Deliver them that are drawn to death: wilt thou not preserve them that are led to be slain?
[12]If thou sayestH559[H8799], Behold, we knewH3045[H8804] it not; doth not he that ponderethH8505[H8802] the heartH3826 considerH995[H8799] it? and he that keepethH5341[H8802] thy soulH5315, doth not he knowH3045[H8799] it? and shall not he renderH7725[H8689] to every manH120 according to his worksH6467? [12]If thou say, Behold, we knew not of it: he that pondereth the hearts, doth not he understand it? And he that keepeth thy soul, knoweth he it not? Will not he also recompense every man according to his works?
[13]My sonH1121, eatH398[H8798] thou honeyH1706, because it is goodH2896; and the honeycombH5317, which is sweetH4966 to thy tasteH2441: [13]My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb, for it is sweet unto thy mouth.
[14]So shall the knowledgeH3045[H8798] of wisdomH2451 be unto thy soulH5315: when thou hast foundH4672[H8804] it, then there shall beH3426 a rewardH319, and thy expectationH8615 shall not be cut offH3772.[H8735] [14]So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul, if thou find it, and there shall be an end, and thine hope shall not be cut off.
[15]Lay not waitH693[H8799], O wickedH7563 man, against the dwellingH5116 of the righteousH6662; spoilH7703[H8762] not his resting placeH7258: [15]Lay no wait, O wicked man, against the house of the righteous, and spoil not his resting place.
[16]For a justH6662 man fallethH5307[H8799] seven timesH7651, and riseth up againH6965[H8804]: but the wickedH7563 shall fallH3782[H8735] into mischiefH7451. [16]For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth again: but the wicked fall into mischief.
[17]RejoiceH8055[H8799] not when thine enemyH341[H8802] fallethH5307[H8800], and let not thine heartH3820 be gladH1523[H8799] when he stumblethH3782:[H8736] [17]Be thou not glad when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart rejoice when he stumbleth,
[18]Lest the LORDH3068 seeH7200[H8799] it, and it displeaseH7489[H8804][H5869] him, and he turn awayH7725[H8689] his wrath from himH639. [18]Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn his wrath from him.
[19]FretH2734[H8691] not thyself because of evilH7489[H8688] men, neither be thou enviousH7065[H8762] at the wickedH7563; [19]Fret not thyself because of the malicious, neither be envious at the wicked.
[20]For there shall be no rewardH319 to the evilH7451 man; the candleH5216 of the wickedH7563 shall be put outH1846.[H8799] [20]For there shall be none end of plagues to the evil man: the light of the wicked shall be put out.
[21]My sonH1121, fearH3372[H8798] thou the LORDH3068 and the kingH4428: and meddleH6148[H8691] not with them that are given to changeH8138:[H8802] [21]My son, fear the Lord, and the king, and meddle not with them that are seditious.
[22]For their calamityH343 shall riseH6965[H8799] suddenlyH6597; and who knowethH3045[H8802] the ruinH6365 of them bothH8147? [22]For their destruction shall rise suddenly, and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
[23]These things also belong to the wiseH2450. It is not goodH2896 to have respectH5234[H8687] of personsH6440 in judgmentH4941. [23]Also these things pertain to the wise, It is not good to have respect of any person in judgment.
[24]He that saithH559[H8802] unto the wickedH7563, Thou art righteousH6662; him shall the peopleH5971 curseH5344[H8799], nationsH3816 shall abhorH2194 himH8799: [24]He that saith to the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people curse, and the multitude shall abhor him.
[25]But to them that rebukeH3198[H8688] him shall be delightH5276[H8799], and a goodH2896 blessingH1293 shall comeH935 upon themH8799. [25]But to them that rebuke him, shall be pleasure, and upon them shall come the blessing of goodness.
[26]Every man shall kissH5401[H8799] his lipsH8193 that givethH7725[H8688] a rightH5228 answerH1697. [26]They shall kiss the lips of him that answereth upright words.
[27]PrepareH3559[H8685] thy workH4399 withoutH2351, and make it fitH6257[H8761] for thyself in the fieldH7704; and afterwardsH310 buildH1129[H8804] thine houseH1004. [27]Prepare thy work without, and make ready thy things in the field, and after, build thine house.
[28]Be not a witnessH5707 against thy neighbourH7453 without causeH2600; and deceiveH6601[H8765] not with thy lipsH8193. [28]Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause: for wilt thou deceive with thy lips?
[29]SayH559[H8799] not, I will doH6213[H8799] so to him as he hath doneH6213[H8804] to me: I will renderH7725[H8686] to the manH376 according to his workH6467. [29]Say not, I will do to him, as he hath done to me, I will recompense every man according to his work.
[30]I wentH5674[H8804] by the fieldH7704 of the slothfulH376[H6102], and by the vineyardH3754 of the manH120 voidH2638 of understandingH3820; [30]I passed by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man destitute of understanding.
[31]And, lo, it was all grown overH5927[H8804] with thornsH7063, and nettlesH2738 had coveredH3680[H8795] the faceH6440 thereof, and the stoneH68 wallH1444 thereof was broken downH2040.[H8738] [31]And lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
[32]Then I sawH2372[H8799], and considered it wellH7896[H8799][H3820]: I lookedH7200[H8804] upon it, and receivedH3947[H8804] instructionH4148. [32]Then I beheld, and I considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
[33]Yet a littleH4592 sleepH8142, a littleH4592 slumberH8572, a littleH4592 foldingH2264 of the handsH3027 to sleepH7901:[H8800] [33]Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.
[34]So shall thy povertyH7389 comeH935[H8804] as one that travellethH1980[H8693]; and thy wantH4270 as an armedH4043 manH376. [34]So thy poverty cometh as one that travaileth by the way, and thy necessity like an armed man.
