[[To him that excelleth.] A Psalm Chapter of David the servant of the Lord, which spake unto the Lord the words of this song (in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul) and said,]
[1]I WILL love thee, O LORD, my strength and my trust; [1]I will love thee dearly, O Lord my strength.
[2]My refuge and my deliverer is the mighty God in whom I trust; he is my helper and the horn of my salvation and my glorious refuge. [2]The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and he that delivereth me, my God and my strength: in him will I trust, my shield, the horn also of my salvation, and my refuge.
[3]I will call upon the LORD; so shall I be saved from mine enemies. [3]I will call upon the Lord, which is worthy to be praised: so shall I be safe from mine enemies.
[4]For the pains of death surrounded me, and the rush of ungodly men have confused me. [4]The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of wickedness made me afraid.
[5]The travail of Sheol has taken hold of me: the snares of death preceded me. [5]The sorrows of the grave have compassed me about: the snares of death overtook me.
[6]In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. [6]But in my trouble did I call upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry did come before him, even into his ears.
[7]Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken because he was angry. [7]Then the earth trembled, and quaked: the foundations also of the mountains moved and shook, because he was angry.
[8]There went up a smoke out of his wrath, and fire flamed from his face, and coals were kindled by it. [8]Smoke went out at his nostrils, and a consuming fire out of his mouth: coals were kindled there at.
[9]He bowed the heavens and came down; and thick darkness was under his feet. [9]He bowed the heavens also and came down, and darkness was under his feet.
[10]And he rode upon cherubim and flew; yea, he soared upon the wings of the wind. [10]And he rode upon cherub and did fly, and he came flying upon the wings of the wind.
[11]He made darkness his covert; his pavilion round about him was darkness of waters and thick clouds of the skies. [11]He made darkness his secret place, and his pavilion round about him, even darkness of waters, and clouds of the air.
[12]Out of the brightness of his shadow his clouds rained hailstones and coals of fire. [12]At the brightness of his presence his clouds passed, hailstones and coals of fire.
[13]The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice: hailstones and coals of fire. [13]The Lord also thundered in the heaven, and the Highest gave his voice, hailstones and coals of fire.
[14]Yea, he sent out his arrows and scattered them; and he multiplied his lightnings and confused them. [14]Then he sent out his arrows and scattered them, and he increased lightnings and destroyed them.
[15]Then the brooks appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid open at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thine anger. [15]And the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuking, O Lord, at the blasting of the breath of thy nostrils.
[16]He sent from on high and quieted me; he received me out of great waters. [16]He hath sent down from above and taken me: he hath drawn me out of many waters.
[17]He delivered me from my strong enemies and from them which hated me; for they were too strong for me. [17]He hath delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hate me: for they were too strong for me.
[18]They confronted me in the day of my extremity, but the LORD was my deliverer. [18]They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.
[19]He brought me forth into comfort; he delivered me because he delighted in me. [19]He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me because he favored me.
[20]The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me. [20]The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the pureness of mine hands he recompensed me:
[21]For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not revolted against my God. [21]Because I kept the ways of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God.
[22]For all his judgments were before me, and his laws I did not put away from me. [22]For all his Laws were before me, and I did not cast away his commandments from me.
[23]I was also blameless before him, and I carefully kept myself from my sins. [23]I was upright also with him, and have kept me from my wickedness.
[24]Therefore has the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyes. [24]Therefore the Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness, and according to the pureness of mine hands in his sight.
[25]With the pure thou shalt be pure; with an upright man thou shalt be upright. [25]With the godly thou wilt show thyself godly: with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright.
[26]With the clean thou shalt be clean; and from the crooked thou shalt turn aside. [26]With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure, and with the froward thou wilt show thyself froward.
[27]For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt humble the proud. [27]Thus thou wilt save the poor people, and wilt cast down the proud looks.
[28]For thou wilt light my lamp; the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. [28]Surely thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will lighten my darkness.
[29]For through thee I have pursued a band of robbers; and through my God have I leaped over a fence. [29]For by thee I have broken through an host, and by my God I have leaped over a wall.
[30]As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure: he is a help to all those that trust in him. [30]The way of God is uncorrupt: the word of the Lord is tried in the fire: he is a shield to all that trust in him.
[31]For there is no God save the LORD; and there is no one who is mighty like our God. [31]For who is God besides the Lord? And who is mighty save our God?
[32]It is God that girds me with strength and makes my way perfect. [32]God girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way upright.
[33]He makes my feet like hart's feet and sets me upon high places. [33]He maketh my feet like hinds feet, and setteth me upon mine high places.
[34]He trains my hands to war; and he strengthens my arms like a bow of brass. [34]He teacheth mine hands to fight: so that a bow of brass is broken with mine arms.
[35]Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation; and thy right hand hath held me up; and thy discipline hath made me great. [35]Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand hath stayed me, and thy loving kindness hath caused me to increase.
[36]Thou hast steadied my legs under me, that my ankles may not be weakened. [36]Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, and mine heels have not slid.
[37]I will pursue my enemies and overtake them; and I will not turn again till they are consumed. [37]I have pursued mine enemies, and taken them, and have not turned again till I had consumed them.
[38]I will smite them so that they shall not be able to stand; they shall fall under my feet. [38]I have wounded them, that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.
[39]For thou hast girded me with strength to the battle; thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. [39]For thou hast girded me with strength to battle them, that rose against me, thou hast subdued under me.
[40]Thou hast also defeated my enemies before me, that I might silence them that hate me. [40]And thou hast given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
[41]They shall cry, but there will be none to save them; they shall beg the LORD, but he will not answer them. [41]They cried but there was none to save them, even unto the Lord, but he answered them not.
[42]Then I will beat them small as the dust before the wind; I will tread over them as the mire of the streets. [42]Then I did beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did tread them flat as the clay in the streets.
[43]Thou wilt deliver me from the judgments of the people; and thou wilt make me the leader of the Gentiles; a people whom I have not known shall serve me. [43]Thou hast delivered me from the contentions of the people: thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people, whom I have not known, shall serve me.
[44]As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me; strangers shall submit themselves to me. [44]As soon as they hear, they shall obey me: the strangers shall be in subjection to me.
[45]Strangers shall halt and shall be hindered from walking in their paths. [45]Strangers shall shrink away, and fear in their privy chambers.
[46]The LORD lives; blessed be the one who gives me strength; let my God and my Saviour be exalted. [46]Let the Lord live, and blessed be my strength, and the God of my salvation be exalted.
[47]It is God that avenges me and subdues the people under me. [47]It is God that giveth me power to avenge me, and subdueth the people under me.
[48]He delivered me from my enemies; yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me; thou hast delivered me from lawless man. [48]O my deliverer from mine enemies, even thou hast set me up from them, that rose against me: thou hast delivered me from the cruel man.
[49]Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the Gentiles, and sing praises unto thy name. [49]Therefore I will praise thee, O Lord, among the nations, and will sing unto thy name.
[50]Great deliverance gives he to his king; and shows mercy to his anointed, to David and to his descendants for evermore. [50]Great deliverances giveth he unto his king, and showeth mercy to his anointed , even to David, and to his seed forever.
