[[To him that excelleth.] A Psalm Chapter of David to give instruction. When Doeg the Edomite came and showed Saul, and said to him, David is come to the house of Abimelech.]
[1]To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech. Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually. [1]Why boastest thou thyself in thy wickedness, O man of power? The loving kindness of God endureth daily.
[2]Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. [2]Thy tongue imagineth mischief, and is like a sharp razor, that cutteth deceitfully.
[3]Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. [3]Thou dost love evil more then good, and lies more then to speak the truth. Selah.
[4]Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. [4]Thou lovest all words that may destroy, O deceitful tongue!
[5]God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling-place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. [5]So shall God destroy thee forever: he shall take thee and pluck thee out of thy tabernacle, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
[6]The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: [6]The righteous also shall see it, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,
[7]Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. [7]Behold the man that took not God for his strength, but trusted unto the multitude of his riches, and put his strength in his malice.
[8]But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. [8]But I shall be like a green olive tree in the house of God: for I trusted in the mercy of God forever and ever.
[9]I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints. [9]I will alway praise thee, for that thou hast done this, and I will hope in thy name, because it is good before thy saints.
