[A Psalm of instruction for Ætham the Israelite.]
[1]MaschilH4905[H8688] of EthanH387 the EzrahiteH250. I will singH7891[H8799] of the merciesH2617 of the LORDH3068 for everH5769: with my mouthH6310 will I make knownH3045[H8686] thy faithfulnessH530 to allH1755 generationsH1755. [1]I will sing of thy mercies, O Lord, for ever: I will declare thy truth with my mouth to all generations.
[2]For I have saidH559[H8804], MercyH2617 shall be built upH1129[H8735] for everH5769: thy faithfulnessH530 shalt thou establishH3559[H8686] in the very heavensH8064. [2]For thou hast said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy truth shall be established in the heavens.
[3]I have madeH3772[H8804] a covenantH1285 with my chosenH972, I have swornH7650[H8738] unto DavidH1732 my servantH5650, [3]I made a covenant with my chosen ones, I sware unto David my servant.
[4]Thy seedH2233 will I establishH3559[H8686] forH5704 everH5769, and build upH1129[H8804] thy throneH3678 to allH1755 generationsH1755. SelahH5542. [4]I will establish thy seed for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Pause.
[5]And the heavensH8064 shall praiseH3034[H8686] thy wondersH6382, O LORDH3068: thy faithfulnessH530 also in the congregationH6951 of the saintsH6918. [5]The heavens shall declare thy wonders, O Lord; and thy truth in the assembly of the saints.
[6]For who in the heavenH7834 can be comparedH6186[H8799] unto the LORDH3068? who among the sonsH1121 of the mightyH410 can be likenedH1819[H8799] unto the LORDH3068? [6]For who in the heavens shall be compared to the Lord? and who shall be likened to the Lord among the sons of God?
[7]GodH410 is greatlyH7227 to be fearedH6206[H8737] in the assemblyH5475 of the saintsH6918, and to be had in reverenceH3372[H8737] of all them that are about himH5439. [7]God is glorified in the council of the saints; great and terrible toward all that are round about him.
[8]O LORDH3068 GodH430 of hostsH6635, who is a strongH2626 LORDH3050 like unto thee? or to thy faithfulnessH530 round about theeH5439? [8]O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.
[9]Thou rulestH4910[H8802] the ragingH1348 of the seaH3220: when the wavesH1530 thereof ariseH7721[H8800], thou stillestH7623 themH8762. [9]Thou rulest the power of the sea; and thou calmest the tumult of its waves.
[10]Thou hast brokenH1792 RahabH7294 in piecesH1792[H8765], as one that is slainH2491; thou hast scatteredH6340[H8765] thine enemiesH341[H8802] with thy strongH5797 armH2220. [10]Thou has brought down the proud as one that is slain; and with the arm of thy power thou has scattered thine enemies.
[11]The heavensH8064 are thine, the earthH776 also is thine: as for the worldH8398 and the fulnessH4393 thereof, thou hast foundedH3245 themH8804. [11]The heavens are thine, and the earth is thine: thou hast founded the world, and the fullness of it.
[12]The northH6828 and the southH3225 thou hast createdH1254[H8804] them: TaborH8396 and HermonH2768 shall rejoiceH7442[H8762] in thy nameH8034. [12]Thou hast created the north and the west: Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
[13]Thou hast a mightyH1369 armH2220: strongH5810[H8799] is thy handH3027, and highH7311[H8799] is thy right handH3225. [13]Thine is the mighty arm: let thy hand be strengthened, let thy right hand be exalted.
[14]JusticeH6664 and judgmentH4941 are the habitationH4349 of thy throneH3678: mercyH2617 and truthH571 shall goH6923[H8762] before thy faceH6440. [14]Justice and judgment are the establishment of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
[15]BlessedH835 is the peopleH5971 that knowH3045[H8802] the joyful soundH8643: they shall walkH1980[H8762], O LORDH3068, in the lightH216 of thy countenanceH6440. [15]Blessed is the people that knows the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
[16]In thy nameH8034 shall they rejoiceH1523[H8799] all the dayH3117: and in thy righteousnessH6666 shall they be exaltedH7311.[H8799] [16]And in thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
[17]For thou art the gloryH8597 of their strengthH5797: and in thy favourH7522 our hornH7161 shall be exaltedH7311[H8799][H8675][H7311].[H8686] [17]For thou art the boast of their strength; and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted,
[18]For the LORDH3068 is our defenceH4043; and the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 is our kingH4428. [18]for our help is of the Lord; and of the Holy One of Israel, our king.
[19]Then thou spakestH1696[H8765] in visionH2377 to thy holy oneH2623, and saidstH559[H8799], I have laidH7737[H8765] helpH5828 upon one that is mightyH1368; I have exaltedH7311[H8689] one chosenH977[H8803] out of the peopleH5971. [19]Then thou spokest in vision to thy children, and saidst, I have laid help on a mighty one; I have exalted one chosen out of my people.
[20]I have foundH4672[H8804] DavidH1732 my servantH5650; with my holyH6944 oilH8081 have I anointedH4886 himH8804: [20]I have found David my servant; I have anointed him by my holy mercy.
[21]With whom my handH3027 shall be establishedH3559[H8735]: mine armH2220 also shall strengthenH553 himH8762. [21]For my hand shall support him; and mine arm shall strengthen him.
[22]The enemyH341[H8802] shall not exactH5378[H8686] upon him; nor the sonH1121 of wickednessH5766 afflictH6031 himH8762. [22]The enemy shall have no advantage against him; and the son of transgression shall not hurt him again.
[23]And I will beat downH3807[H8804] his foesH6862 before his faceH6440, and plagueH5062[H8799] them that hateH8130 himH8764. [23]And I will hew down his foes before him, and put to flight those that hate him.
[24]But my faithfulnessH530 and my mercyH2617 shall be with him: and in my nameH8034 shall his hornH7161 be exaltedH7311.[H8799] [24]But my truth and my mercy shall be with him; and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
[25]I will setH7760[H8804] his handH3027 also in the seaH3220, and his right handH3225 in the riversH5104. [25]And I will set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
[26]He shall cryH7121[H8799] unto me, Thou art my fatherH1, my GodH410, and the rockH6697 of my salvationH3444. [26]He shall call upon me, saying, Thou art my Father, my God, and the helper of my salvation.
[27]Also I will makeH5414[H8799] him my firstbornH1060, higherH5945 than the kingsH4428 of the earthH776. [27]And I will make him my first-born, higher than the kings of the earth.
[28]My mercyH2617 will I keepH8104[H8799] for him for evermoreH5769, and my covenantH1285 shall stand fastH539 with himH8737. [28]I will keep my mercy for him for ever, and my covenant shall be firm with him.
[29]His seedH2233 also will I makeH7760[H8804] to endure for everH5703, and his throneH3678 as the daysH3117 of heavenH8064. [29]And I will establish his seed for ever and ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
[30]If his childrenH1121 forsakeH5800[H8799] my lawH8451, and walkH3212[H8799] not in my judgmentsH4941; [30]If his children should forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
[31]If they breakH2490[H8762] my statutesH2708, and keepH8104[H8799] not my commandmentsH4687; [31]if they should profane my ordinances, and not keep my commandments;
[32]Then will I visitH6485[H8804] their transgressionH6588 with the rodH7626, and their iniquityH5771 with stripesH5061. [32]I will visit their transgressions with a rod, and their sins with scourges.
[33]Nevertheless my lovingkindnessH2617 will I not utterly takeH6331[H8686] from him, nor suffer my faithfulnessH530 to failH8266.[H8762] [33]But my mercy I will not utterly remove from him, nor wrong my truth.
[34]My covenantH1285 will I not breakH2490[H8762], nor alterH8138[H8762] the thing that is gone outH4161 of my lipsH8193. [34]Neither will I by any means profane my covenant; and I will not make void the things that proceed out of my lips.
[35]OnceH259 have I swornH7650[H8738] by my holinessH6944 that I will not lieH3576[H8762] unto DavidH1732. [35]Once have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie to David.
[36]His seedH2233 shall endure for everH5769, and his throneH3678 as the sun before meH8121. [36]His see shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me;
[37]It shall be establishedH3559[H8735] for everH5769 as the moonH3394, and as a faithfulH539[H8737] witnessH5707 in heavenH7834. SelahH5542. [37]and as the moon that is established for ever, and as the faithful witness in heaven. Pause.
[38]But thou hast cast offH2186[H8804] and abhorredH3988[H8799], thou hast been wrothH5674[H8694] with thine anointedH4899. [38]But thou hast cast off and set at nought, thou has rejected thine anointed.
[39]Thou hast made voidH5010[H8765] the covenantH1285 of thy servantH5650: thou hast profanedH2490[H8765] his crownH5145 by casting it to the groundH776. [39]Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant; thou has profaned his sanctuary, casting it to the ground.
[40]Thou hast broken downH6555[H8804] all his hedgesH1448; thou hast broughtH7760[H8804] his strong holdsH4013 to ruinH4288. [40]Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast made his strong holds a terror.
[41]All that pass byH5674[H8802] the wayH1870 spoilH8155[H8804] him: he is a reproachH2781 to his neighboursH7934. [41]All that go by the way have spoiled him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.
[42]Thou hast set upH7311[H8689] the right handH3225 of his adversariesH6862; thou hast made all his enemiesH341[H8802] to rejoiceH8055.[H8689] [42]Thou hast exalted the right hand of his enemies; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
[43]Thou hast also turnedH7725[H8686] the edgeH6697 of his swordH2719, and hast not made him to standH6965[H8689] in the battleH4421. [43]Thou hast turned back the help of his sword, and hast not helped him in the battle.
[44]Thou hast made his gloryH2892 to ceaseH7673[H8689], and castH4048 his throneH3678 downH4048[H8765] to the groundH776. [44]Thou hast deprived him of glory: thou hast broken down his throne to the ground.
[45]The daysH3117 of his youthH5934 hast thou shortenedH7114[H8689]: thou hast coveredH5844[H8689] him with shameH955. SelahH5542. [45]Thou hast shortened the days of his throne: thou hast poured shame upon him. Pause.
[46]How long, LORDH3068? wilt thou hideH5641[H8735] thyself for everH5331? shall thy wrathH2534 burnH1197[H8799] like fireH784? [46]How long, O Lord, wilt thou turn away, for ever? shall thine anger flame out as fire?
[47]RememberH2142[H8798] how shortH2465 my time is: wherefore hast thou madeH1254[H8804] all menH1121[H120] in vainH7723? [47]Remember what my being is: for hast thou created all the sons of men in vain?
[48]What manH1397 is he that livethH2421[H8799], and shall not seeH7200[H8799] deathH4194? shall he deliverH4422[H8762] his soulH5315 from the handH3027 of the graveH7585? SelahH5542. [48]What man is there who shall live, and not see death? shall any one deliver his soul from the hand of Hades? Pause.
[49]LordH136, where are thy formerH7223 lovingkindnessesH2617, which thou swarestH7650[H8738] unto DavidH1732 in thy truthH530? [49]Where are thine ancient mercies, O Lord, which thou swarest to David in thy truth?
[50]RememberH2142[H8798], LordH136, the reproachH2781 of thy servantsH5650; how I do bearH5375[H8800] in my bosomH2436 the reproach of all the mightyH7227 peopleH5971; [50]Remember, O Lord, the reproach of thy servants, which I have borne in my bosom, even the reproach of many nations;
[51]Wherewith thine enemiesH341[H8802] have reproachedH2778[H8765], O LORDH3068; wherewith they have reproachedH2778[H8765] the footstepsH6119 of thine anointedH4899. [51]wherewith thine enemies have reviled, O Lord: wherewith they have reviled the recompense of thine anointed.
[52]BlessedH1288[H8803] be the LORDH3068 for evermoreH5769. AmenH543, and AmenH543. [52]Blessed be the Lord for ever. So be it, so be it.
