| [1]παρακαλῶ οὗν ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, διὰ τῶν οἰκτιρμῶν τοῦ θεοῦ, παραστῆσαι τὰ σώματα ὑμῶν θυσίαν ζῶσαν ἁγίαν εὐάρεστον τῶ θεῶ, τὴν λογικὴν λατρείαν ὑμῶν· |
[1]I Beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye give up your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable serving of God. |
| [2]καὶ μὴ συσχηματίζεσθε τῶ αἰῶνι τούτῳ, ἀλλὰ μεταμορφοῦσθε τῇ ἀνακαινώσει τοῦ νοός, εἰς τὸ δοκιμάζειν ὑμᾶς τί τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ, τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ εὐάρεστον καὶ τέλειον. |
[2]And fashion not yourselves like unto this world, but be ye changed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good will of God, and acceptable, and perfect. |
| [3]λέγω γὰρ διὰ τῆς χάριτος τῆς δοθείσης μοι παντὶ τῶ ὄντι ἐν ὑμῖν μὴ ὑπερφρονεῖν παρ᾽ ὃ δεῖ φρονεῖν, ἀλλὰ φρονεῖν εἰς τὸ σωφρονεῖν, ἑκάστῳ ὡς ὁ θεὸς ἐμέρισεν μέτρον πίστεως. |
[3]For I say through the grace that is given unto me, to every one that is among you, that no man presume to understand above that which is meet to understand, but that he understand according to sobriety, as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. |
| [4]καθάπερ γὰρ ἐν ἑνὶ σώματι πολλὰ μέλη ἔχομεν, τὰ δὲ μέλη πάντα οὐ τὴν αὐτὴν ἔχει πρᾶξιν, |
[4]For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not one office, |
| [5]οὕτως οἱ πολλοὶ ἓν σῶμά ἐσμεν ἐν χριστῶ, τὸ δὲ καθ᾽ εἷς ἀλλήλων μέλη. |
[5]So we being many are one body in Christ, and every one, one anothers members. |
| [6]ἔχοντες δὲ χαρίσματα κατὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διάφορα, εἴτε προφητείαν κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως, |
[6]Seeing then that we have gifts that are divers, according to the grace that is given unto us, whether we have prophecy, let us prophecy according to the portion of faith: |
| [7]εἴτε διακονίαν ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ, εἴτε ὁ διδάσκων ἐν τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ, |
[7]Or an office, let us wait on the office: or he that teacheth, on teaching: |
| [8]εἴτε ὁ παρακαλῶν ἐν τῇ παρακλήσει, ὁ μεταδιδοὺς ἐν ἁπλότητι, ὁ προϊστάμενος ἐν σπουδῇ, ὁ ἐλεῶν ἐν ἱλαρότητι. |
[8]Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that distributeth, let him do it with simplicity: he that ruleth, with diligence: he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness. |
| [9]ἡ ἀγάπη ἀνυπόκριτος. ἀποστυγοῦντες τὸ πονηρόν, κολλώμενοι τῶ ἀγαθῶ· |
[9]Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil, and cleave unto that which is good. |
| [10]τῇ φιλαδελφίᾳ εἰς ἀλλήλους φιλόστοργοι, τῇ τιμῇ ἀλλήλους προηγούμενοι, |
[10]Be affectioned to love one another with brotherly love. In giving honor, go one before another, |
| [11]τῇ σπουδῇ μὴ ὀκνηροί, τῶ πνεύματι ζέοντες, τῶ κυρίῳ δουλεύοντες, |
[11]Not slothful to do service: fervent in spirit serving the Lord, |
| [12]τῇ ἐλπίδι χαίροντες, τῇ θλίψει ὑπομένοντες, τῇ προσευχῇ προσκαρτεροῦντες, |
[12]Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing in prayer, |
| [13]ταῖς χρείαις τῶν ἁγίων κοινωνοῦντες, τὴν φιλοξενίαν διώκοντες. |
[13]Distributing unto the necessities of the Saints: giving yourselves to hospitality. |
| [14]εὐλογεῖτε τοὺς διώκοντας [ὑμᾶς], εὐλογεῖτε καὶ μὴ καταρᾶσθε. |
[14]Bless them which persecute you: bless, I say, and curse not. |
| [15]χαίρειν μετὰ χαιρόντων, κλαίειν μετὰ κλαιόντων. |
[15]Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep. |
| [16]τὸ αὐτὸ εἰς ἀλλήλους φρονοῦντες, μὴ τὰ ὑψηλὰ φρονοῦντες ἀλλὰ τοῖς ταπεινοῖς συναπαγόμενοι. μὴ γίνεσθε φρόνιμοι παρ᾽ ἑαυτοῖς. |
[16]Be of like affection one towards another: be not high minded: but make yourselves equal to them of the lower sort: be not wise in your selves. |
| [17]μηδενὶ κακὸν ἀντὶ κακοῦ ἀποδιδόντες· προνοούμενοι καλὰ ἐνώπιον πάντων ἀνθρώπων· |
[17]Recompense to no man evil for evil: procure things honest in the sight of all men. |
| [18]εἰ δυνατόν, τὸ ἐξ ὑμῶν μετὰ πάντων ἀνθρώπων εἰρηνεύοντες· |
[18]If it be possible, as much as in you is, have peace with all men. |
| [19]μὴ ἑαυτοὺς ἐκδικοῦντες, ἀγαπητοί, ἀλλὰ δότε τόπον τῇ ὀργῇ, γέγραπται γάρ, ἐμοὶ ἐκδίκησις, ἐγὼ ἀνταποδώσω, λέγει κύριος. |
[19]Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord. |
| [20]ἀλλὰ ἐὰν πεινᾷ ὁ ἐχθρός σου, ψώμιζε αὐτόν· ἐὰν διψᾷ, πότιζε αὐτόν· τοῦτο γὰρ ποιῶν ἄνθρακας πυρὸς σωρεύσεις ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ. |
[20]Therefore, if thine enemy hunger, feed him: if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. |
| [21]μὴ νικῶ ὑπὸ τοῦ κακοῦ, ἀλλὰ νίκα ἐν τῶ ἀγαθῶ τὸ κακόν. |
[21]Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with goodness. |
