[1]He who is weak in the faith, assist him. And be consistent in your reasoning. [1]Him that is weak in the faith, receive unto you, but not for controversies of disputations.
[2]For one believes that he may eat all things: another who is weak, eats vegetables. [2]One believeth that he may eat of all things: and another, which is weak, eateth herbs.
[3]Let not him who eats despise him who eats not; and let not him who eats not judge him who eats: for God has received him also. [3]Let not him that eateth, despise him that eateth not: and let not him which eateth not, judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
[4]Who are you to judge another man's servant? for if he is a success, he is a success to his master; and if he is a failure, he is a failure to his master. As for his success, he will succeed for it is in the power of his master to make him succeed. [4]Who art thou that condemnest another mans servant? he standeth or falleth to his own master: yea, he shall be established: for God is able to make him stand.
[5]One person values one day above another: another values all days alike. Let every man be sure in his own mind. [5]This man esteemeth one day above another day, and another man counteth every day alike: let every man be fully persuaded in his mind.
[6]He who is mindful concerning a day's duty is considerate of his master; and every one who is not mindful concerning a day's duty, is inconsiderate of his master. And he who is wasteful, is detrimental to his master even though he confesses it to God; and he who is not wasteful, is not wasteful to his master, yet he likewise tells it to God. [6]He that observeth the day, observeth it to the Lord: and he that observeth not the day, observeth it not to the Lord. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord: for he giveth God thanks: and he that eateth not, eateth not to the Lord, and giveth God thanks.
[7]For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. [7]For none of us liveth to himself, neither doth any die to himself.
[8]For whether we live, we live unto our LORD; and whether we die, we die unto our LORD: whether we live therefore, or die, we belong to our LORD. [8]For whether we live, we live unto the Lord: or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
[9]For to this end even Christ both died and came back to life, and rose to be LORD both of the dead and living. [9]For Christ therefore died and rose again, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the quick.
[10]Why, then, do you judge your brother? or why do you despise your brother? for we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. [10]But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou despise thy brother? for we shall all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
[11]For it is written, As I live, said the LORD, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess me. [11]For it is written, I live, saith the Lord, and every knee shall bow to me, and all tongues shall confess unto God.
[12]So then every one of us shall answer for himself to God. [12]So then everyone of us shall give accounts of himself to God.
[13]Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but rather be mindful of this, that you should never place a stumblingblock in the way of your brother. [13]Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but use your judgment rather in this, that no man put an occasion to fall, or a stumbling block before his brother.
[14]For I know, and I have confidence in the LORD Jesus, that nothing unclean comes from him: but to him who believes a thing to be unclean, to him only is it unclean. [14]I know, and am persuaded through the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but unto him that judgeth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
[15]But now if you have caused your brother to grieve on account of meat, then you are not living in harmony. Do not make food a cause to destroy a man for whose sake Christ died. [15]But if thy brother be grieved for the meat, now walkest thou not charitably: destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.
[16]Let not our blessings be a reproach to any one: [16]Cause not your commodity to be evil spoken of.
[17]For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. [17]For the kingdom of God is not meat nor drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
[18]For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and is approved by men. [18]For whosoever in these things serveth Christ, is acceptable unto God, and is approved of men.
[19]Now let us strive after peace, and help one another. [19]Let us then follow those things which concern peace, and wherewith one may edify another.
[20]And let us not, because of food, destroy the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is wrong for the man who eats with offence. [20]Destroy not the work of God for meats sake: all things indeed are pure: but it is evil for the man which eateth with offence.
[21]It is better that we neither eat meat nor drink wine nor do any other thing whereby we cause our brother to stumble. [21]It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor anything, whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or made weak.
[22]You who have a certain belief, keep it to yourself, before God. Blessed is he who does not condemn himself by doing those things which he believes to be wrong. [22]Hast thou faith? have it with thyself before God: blessed is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
[23]For he who is doubtful and eats, violates his beliefs: for whatever is not of faith, is sin. The strong must help the weak. [23]For he that doubteth, is condemned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: and whatsoever is not of faith, is sin.
