| [1]At that time Herod the Tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, |

| [2]And said unto his servants, This is John Baptist. He is risen again from the dead, and therefore great works are wrought by him. |

| [3]For Herod had taken John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias sake, his brother Philips wife. |

| [4]For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. |

| [7]Wherefore he promised with an oath, that he would give her whatsoever she would ask. |

[8]And she, because she was instructed by her mother, said, Give me right here on a tray the head of John the Baptist. |
| [9]And the King was sorry: nevertheless because of the oath, and them that sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given her, |
[9]And the king was very sorry; but because of the oaths and the guests, he commanded that it be given to her. |
| [10]And sent, and beheaded John in the prison. |

| [11]And his head was brought in a platter, and given to the maid, and she brought it unto her mother. |

| [12]And his disciples came, and took up his body, and buried it, and went, and told Jesus. |

| [13]And when Jesus heard it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart. And when the multitude had heard it, they followed him a foot out of the cities. |

| [14]And Jesus went forth and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. |

| [15]And when even was come, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the hour is already past: let the multitude depart, that they may go into the towns, and buy them vitals. |
[15]When it was evening, his disciples came to him, and they said to him, This is a lonely place, and it is getting late; dismiss the people so that the men may go to the villages and buy food for themselves. |
| [16]But Jesus said to them, They have no need to go away: give ye them to eat. |
[16]But he said to them, It is not necessary for them to go; you give them something to eat. |
| [17]Then said they unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. |
[17]They said to him, We have nothing here, except five loaves of bread and two fish. |
| [18]And he said, Bring them thither to me. |
[18]Jesus said to them, Bring them here to me. |
| [19]And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looked up to heaven and blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. |
[19]And he ordered the people to sit down on the ground, and he took the five loaves of bread and the two fish, and he looked up to heaven and he blessed them, and he broke them, and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples placed them before the people. |
| [20]And they did all eat, and were sufficed, and they took up of the fragments that remained, twelve baskets full. |
[20]So they all ate, and were satisfied; and they took up the fragments which were left over, twelve full baskets. |
| [21]And they that had eaten, were about five thousand men, beside women and little children. |
[21]And the men who ate were five thousand, not counting the women and children. |
| [22]And straightway Jesus compelled his disciples to enter into a ship, and to go over before him, while he sent the multitude away. |
[22]And immediately he urged his disciples to go up into the boat, in advance of him to the crossing place, while he dismissed the people. |
| [23]And as soon as he had sent the multitude away, he went up into a mountain alone to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. |
[23]And when he had dismissed the people, he went up to the mountain alone to pray; and when darkness fell he was still there alone. |
| [24]And the ship was now in the midst of the sea, and was tossed with waves: for it was a contrary wind. |
[24]But the boat was many miles away from the land, tossed by the waves, for the wind was against it. |
| [25]And in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. |

| [26]And when his disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit, and cried out for fear. |

| [27]But straight way Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good comfort. It is I: be not afraid. |

| [28]Then Peter answered him, and said, Master, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. |
[28]And Peter answered and said to him, My Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water. |
| [29]And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. |
[29]Jesus said to him, Come. So Peter went down from the boat, and walked on the water, to come to Jesus. |
| [30]But when he saw a mighty wind, he was afraid: and as he began to sink, he cried, saying, Master, save me. |
[30]But when he saw that the wind was severe, he was afraid, and began to sink, and he raised his voice and said, My Lord, save me. |
| [31]So immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said to him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? |
[31]And our Lord immediately stretched out his hand and grasped him; and he said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? |
| [32]And as soon as they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. |
[32]And when they went up into the boat, the wind quieted down. |
| [33]Then they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. |
[33]And they who were in the boat came and worshipped him; and they said, Truly you are the Son of God. |
| [34]And when they were come over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. |
[34]And they rowed and came to the land of Gennesaret. |
| [35]And when the men of that place knew him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were sick, |
[35]And the men of that country recognized him, and they sent word to all the villages around them; so they brought to him all who were seriously sick. |
| [36]And besought him, that they might touch the hem of his garment only: and as many as touched it, were made whole. |
[36]And they besought him, that they might touch even the edge of his robe; and those who touched it were healed. |
