| [1]ויהי אחרי כן ויך דויד את פלשתים ויכניעם ויקח את גת ובנתיה מיד פלשתים |
[1]AND after these things it came to pass that David smote the Philistines and destroyed them, and took the power from the hand of the Philistines, and took Gath and the small villages that were round about it out of the hand of the Philistines. |
| [2]ויך את מואב ויהיו מואב עבדים לדויד נשאי מנחה |
[2]And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants and brought tribute. |
| [3]ויך דויד את הדדעזר מלך צובה חמתה בלכתו להציב ידו בנהר פרת |
[3]Then David slew Hadarezer the king of Nisibin, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates. |
| [4]וילכד דויד ממנו אלף רכב ושבעת אלפים פרשים ועשרים אלף איש רגלי ויעקר דויד את כל הרכב ויותר ממנו מאה רכב |
[4]And David took from him a thousand chariots and seven thousand horsemen, and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them a hundred chariots. |
| [5]ויבא ארם דרמשק לעזור להדדעזר מלך צובה ויך דויד בארם עשרים ושנים אלף איש |
[5]And when the Edomites and the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Nisibin, David slew of the Edomites twenty-two thousand men. |
| [6]וישם דויד בארם דרמשק ויהי ארם לדויד עבדים נשאי מנחה ויושע יהוה לדויד בכל אשר הלך |
[6]Then David appointed governors in Damascus, and the Arameans became David's servants and brought tribute. Thus the LORD preserved David wheresoever he went. |
| [7]ויקח דויד את שלטי הזהב אשר היו על עבדי הדדעזר ויביאם ירושלם |
[7]And David took the shields of gold that were hanging on the horses of the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. |
| [8]ומטבחת ומכון ערי הדדעזר לקח דויד נחשת רבה מאד בה עשה שלמה את ים הנחשת ואת העמודים ואת כלי הנחשת |
[8]Likewise from Tibhath and from Berothi, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars of brass and the oxen of brass and the vessels of brass in abundance |
| [9]וישמע תעו מלך חמת כי הכה דויד את כל חיל הדדעזר מלך צובה |
[9]Now Pul, king of Hamath, heard that David had smitten the whole army of Hadarezer, king of Nisibin; |
| [10]וישלח את הדורם בנו אל המלך דויד לשאול [Q: לשאל] לו לשלום ולברכו על אשר נלחם בהדדעזר ויכהו־כי איש מלחמות תעו היה הדדעזר וכל כלי זהב וכסף־ונחשת |
[10]And he sent Jehoram his son to David to inquire of his welfare and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadarezer and killed him (for Hadarezer was a valiant warrior) and Jehoram had with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass. |
| [11]גם אתם הקדיש המלך דויד ליהוה עם הכסף והזהב אשר נשא מכל הגוים־מאדום וממואב ומבני עמון ומפלשתים ומעמלק |
[11]Some of these also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and the gold that he had captured from all the nations which he had subdued: from the Edomites, from the Moabites, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from the Amalekites. |
| [12]ואבשי בן צרויה הכה את אדום בגיא המלח שמונה עשר אלף |
[12]Moreover Abishai the son of Zuriah brother of Joab slew the Edomites in the valley of salt, eighteen thousand men. |
| [13]וישם באדום נציבים ויהיו כל אדום עבדים לדויד ויושע יהוה את דויד בכל אשר הלך |
[13]And David appointed governors over the Edomites, and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David wherever he went. |
| [14]וימלך דויד על כל ישראל ויהי עשה משפט וצדקה־לכל עמו |
[14]So David reigned over all Israel and executed justice and righteousness to all the people. |
| [15]ויואב בן צרויה על הצבא ויהושפט בן אחילוד מזכיר |
[15]And Joab the son of Zuriah was over all the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder. |
| [16]וצדוק בן אחיטוב ואבימלך בן אביתר כהנים ושושא סופר |
[16]And Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelek the son of Abiathar were the priests; and Seriah was scribe; |
| [17]ובניהו בן יהוידע על הכרתי והפלתי ובני דויד הראשנים ליד המלך |
[17]And Benaiah the son of Jehoiadah was over the archers and the slingers; and the sons of David were princes of the realm |
