[1]The children of Israel also after their number, even the chief fathers and captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers that served the king by divers courses, which came and in went out, month by month throughout all the months of the year: in every course were four and twenty thousand. |

[23]But David took not the number of them from twenty year old and under, because the Lord had said that he would increase Israel like unto the stars of the heavens. |
| [24]Joab, the sone of Saruye, bigan for to noumbre, and he fillide not; for ire fel on Israel for this thing, and therfor the noumbre of hem, that weren noumbrid, was not teld in to the bookis of cronyclis of kyng Dauid. |
[24]And Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number: but he finished it not, because there came wrath for it against Israel, neither was the number put into the chronicles of king David. |
| [25]Forsothe Azymoth, the sone of Adihel, was on the tresouris of the kyng; but Jonathan, the sone of Ozie, was souereyn of these tresours, that weren in cytees, and in townes, and in touris. |
[25]And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the treasures in the fields, in the cities and in the villages and in the towers was Jehonathan [Jonathan] the son of Uzziah: |

[27]And over them that dressed the vines, was Shimei the Ramathite: and over that which appertained to the vines, and over the store of the wine was Zabdi the Shiphmite: |
| [28]for Balanam Gadaritis was on the olyue placis, and fige places, that weren in the feeldi places; sotheli Joas was on the schoppis, `ether celeris, of oile; |
[28]And over the olive trees and mulberry trees that were in the valleys, was Baal Hanan the Gederite: and over the store of the oil was Joash: |
| [29]forsothe Cethray Saronytis `was souereyn of the droues, that weren lesewid in Sarena; and Saphat, the sone of Abdi, was ouer the oxis in valeys; |
[29]And over the oxen that fed in Sharon, was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the oxen in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai: |
| [30]sotheli Vbil of Ismael was ouer the camelis; and Jadye Meronathites was ouer the assis; and Jazir Aggarene was ouer the scheep; |
[30]And over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: |
| [31]alle these weren princes of the catel of kyng Dauid. |
[31]And over the sheep was Jaziz the Hagerite: all these were the rulers of the substance that was king David's. |
| [32]Forsothe Jonathas, brother of `Dauithis fader, was a councelour, a myyti man, and prudent, and lettrid; he and Jahiel, the sone of Achamony, weren with the sones of the kyng. |
[32]And Jehonathan [Jonathan] David's uncle a man of counsel and understanding (for he was a scribe) and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni were with the king's sons. |
| [33]Also Achitofel was a counselour of the kyng; and Chusi Arachites was a frend of the kyng. |
[33]And Ahithophel was the king's counselor, and Hushai the Archite the king's friend. |
| [34]Aftir Achitofel was Joiada, the sone of Banaye, and Abyathar; but Joab was prince of the oost of the kyng. |
[34]And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah and Abiathar: and captain of the king's army was Joab. |
