| [1]And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, saith unto Ahab, `Jehovah, God of Israel, liveth, before whom I have stood, there is not these years dew and rain, except according to my word.' |
[1]And ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664, who was of the inhabitantsH8453 of GileadH1568, saidH559[H8799] unto AhabH256, As the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 livethH2416, beforeH6440 whom I standH5975[H8804], there shall not be dewH2919 nor rainH4306 these yearsH8141, but accordingH6310 to my wordH1697. |
| [2]And the word of Jehovah is unto him, saying, |
[2]And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto him, sayingH559,[H8800] |
| [3]`Go from this [place]; and thou hast turned for thee eastward, and been hidden by the brook Cherith, that [is] on the front of the Jordan, |
[3]GetH3212[H8798] thee hence, and turnH6437[H8804] thee eastwardH6924, and hideH5641[H8738] thyself by the brookH5158 CherithH3747, that is beforeH6440 JordanH3383. |
| [4]and it hath been, from the brook thou dost drink, and the ravens I have commanded to sustain thee there.' |
[4]And it shall be, that thou shalt drinkH8354[H8799] of the brookH5158; and I have commandedH6680[H8765] the ravensH6158 to feedH3557 thee thereH8771. |
| [5]And he goeth and doth according to the word of Jehovah, yea, he goeth and dwelleth by the brook Cherith, that [is] on the front of the Jordan, |
[5]So he wentH3212[H8799] and didH6213[H8799] according unto the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068: for he wentH3212[H8799] and dweltH3427[H8799] by the brookH5158 CherithH3747, that is beforeH6440 JordanH3383. |
| [6]and the ravens are bringing to him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and of the brook he drinketh. |
[6]And the ravensH6158 broughtH935[H8688] him breadH3899 and fleshH1320 in the morningH1242, and breadH3899 and fleshH1320 in the eveningH6153; and he drankH8354[H8799] of the brookH5158. |
| [7]And it cometh to pass, at the end of days, that the brook drieth up, for there hath been no rain in the land, |
[7]And it came to pass afterH7093 a whileH3117, that the brookH5158 dried upH3001[H8799], because there had been no rainH1653 in the landH776. |
| [8]and the word of Jehovah is unto him, saying, |
[8]And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto him, sayingH559,[H8800] |
| [9]`Rise, go to Zarephath, that [is] to Zidon, and thou hast dwelt there; lo, I have commanded there a widow woman to sustain thee.' |
[9]AriseH6965[H8798], getH3212[H8798] thee to ZarephathH6886, which belongeth to ZidonH6721, and dwellH3427[H8804] there: behold, I have commandedH6680[H8765] a widowH490 womanH802 there to sustainH3557 theeH8771. |
| [10]And he riseth, and goeth to Zarephath, and cometh in unto the opening of the city, and lo there, a widow woman gathering sticks, and he calleth unto her, and saith, `Bring, I pray thee, to me, a little water in a vessel, and I drink.' |
[10]So he aroseH6965[H8799] and wentH3212[H8799] to ZarephathH6886. And when he cameH935[H8799] to the gateH6607 of the cityH5892, behold, the widowH490 womanH802 was there gatheringH7197[H8781] of sticksH6086: and he calledH7121[H8799] to her, and saidH559[H8799], FetchH3947[H8798] me, I pray thee, a littleH4592 waterH4325 in a vesselH3627, that I may drinkH8354.[H8799] |
| [11]And she goeth to bring [it], and he calleth unto her and saith, `Bring, I pray thee, to me a morsel of bread in thy hand.' |
[11]And as she was goingH3212[H8799] to fetchH3947[H8800] it, he calledH7121[H8799] to her, and saidH559[H8799], BringH3947[H8798] me, I pray thee, a morselH6595 of breadH3899 in thine handH3027. |
| [12]And she saith, `Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but the fulness of the hand of meal in a pitcher, and a little oil in a dish; and lo, I am gathering two sticks, and have gone in and prepared it for myself, and for my son, and we have eaten it -- and died.' |
[12]And she saidH559[H8799], As the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 livethH2416, I haveH3426 not a cakeH4580, but an handfulH4393[H3709] of mealH7058 in a barrelH3537, and a littleH4592 oilH8081 in a cruseH6835: and, behold, I am gatheringH7197[H8781] twoH8147 sticksH6086, that I may go inH935[H8804] and dressH6213[H8804] it for me and my sonH1121, that we may eatH398[H8804] it, and dieH4191.[H8804] |
| [13]And Elijah saith unto her, `Fear not, go, do according to thy word, only make for me thence a little cake, in the first place, and thou hast brought out to me; and for thee and for thy son make -- last; |
[13]And ElijahH452 saidH559[H8799] unto her, FearH3372[H8799] not; goH935[H8798] and doH6213[H8798] as thou hast saidH1697: but makeH6213[H8798] me thereofH8033 a littleH6996 cakeH5692 firstH7223, and bringH3318[H8689] it unto me, and afterH314 makeH6213[H8799] for thee and for thy sonH1121. |
| [14]for thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, The pitcher of meal is not consumed, and the dish of oil is not lacking, till the day of Jehovah's giving a shower on the face of the ground.' |
[14]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, The barrelH3537 of mealH7058 shall not wasteH3615[H8799], neither shall the cruseH6835 of oilH8081 failH2637[H8799], until the dayH3117 that the LORDH3068 sendethH5414[H8800] rainH1653 uponH6440 the earthH127. |
| [15]And she goeth, and doth according to the word of Elijah, and she eateth, she and he, and her household -- days; |
[15]And she wentH3212[H8799] and didH6213[H8799] according to the sayingH1697 of ElijahH452: and she, and he, and her houseH1004, did eatH398[H8799] many daysH3117. |
| [16]the pitcher of meal was not consumed, and the dish of oil did not lack, according to the word of Jehovah that He spake by the hand of Elijah. |
[16]And the barrelH3537 of mealH7058 wastedH3615[H8804] not, neither did the cruseH6835 of oilH8081 failH2638, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, which he spakeH1696[H8765] byH3027 ElijahH452. |
| [17]And it cometh to pass, after these things, the son of the woman, mistress of the house, hath been sick, and his sickness is very severe till that no breath hath been left in him. |
[17]And it came to pass afterH310 these thingsH1697, that the sonH1121 of the womanH802, the mistressH1172 of the houseH1004, fell sickH2470[H8804]; and his sicknessH2483 was soH3966 soreH2389, that there was no breathH5397 leftH3498 in himH8738. |
| [18]And she saith unto Elijah, `What -- to me and to thee, O man of God? thou hast come unto me to cause mine iniquity to be remembered, and to put my son to death!' |
[18]And she saidH559[H8799] unto ElijahH452, What have I to do with thee, O thou manH376 of GodH430? art thou comeH935[H8804] unto me to callH2142 my sinH5771 to remembranceH2142[H8687], and to slayH4191[H8687] my sonH1121? |
| [19]And he saith unto her, `Give to me thy son;' and he taketh him out of her bosom, and taketh him up unto the upper chamber where he is abiding, and layeth him on his own bed, |
[19]And he saidH559[H8799] unto her, GiveH5414[H8798] me thy sonH1121. And he tookH3947[H8799] him out of her bosomH2436, and carried him upH5927[H8686] into a loftH5944, where he abodeH3427[H8802], and laidH7901[H8686] him upon his own bedH4296. |
| [20]and crieth unto Jehovah, and saith, `Jehovah my God, also on the widow with whom I am sojourning hast Thou done evil -- to put her son to death?' |
[20]And he criedH7121[H8799] unto the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799], O LORDH3068 my GodH430, hast thou also brought evilH7489[H8689] upon the widowH490 with whom I sojournH1481[H8711], by slayingH4191[H8687] her sonH1121? |
| [21]And he stretcheth himself out on the lad three times, and calleth unto Jehovah, and saith, `O Jehovah my God, let turn back, I pray Thee, the soul of this lad into his midst;' |
[21]And he stretchedH4058[H8709] himself upon the childH3206 threeH7969 timesH6471, and criedH7121[H8799] unto the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799], O LORDH3068 my GodH430, I pray thee, let this child'sH3206 soulH5315 comeH7725 into himH7130 againH7725.[H8799] |
| [22]and Jehovah hearkeneth to the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the lad turneth back into his midst, and he liveth. |
[22]And the LORDH3068 heardH8085[H8799] the voiceH6963 of ElijahH452; and the soulH5315 of the childH3206 cameH7725 into himH7130 againH7725[H8799], and he revivedH2421.[H8799] |
| [23]And Elijah taketh the lad, and bringeth him down from the upper chamber of the house, and giveth him to his mother, and Elijah saith, `See, thy son liveth!' |
[23]And ElijahH452 tookH3947[H8799] the childH3206, and brought him downH3381[H8686] out of the chamberH5944 into the houseH1004, and deliveredH5414[H8799] him unto his motherH517: and ElijahH452 saidH559[H8799], SeeH7200[H8798], thy sonH1121 livethH2416. |
| [24]And the woman saith unto Elijah, `Now, this I have known, that a man of God thou [art], and the word of Jehovah in thy mouth [is] truth.' |
[24]And the womanH802 saidH559[H8799] to ElijahH452, Now by thisH2088 I knowH3045[H8804] that thou art a manH376 of GodH430, and that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 in thy mouthH6310 is truthH571. |
