| [1]And the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, `Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;' |
[1]καὶ ἐγένετο μεθ ἡμέρας πολλὰς καὶ ῥῆμα κυρίου ἐγένετο πρὸς ηλιου ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ τρίτῳ λέγων πορεύθητι καὶ ὄφθητι τῷ αχααβ καὶ δώσω ὑετὸν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς |
| [2]and Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria, |
[2]καὶ ἐπορεύθη ηλιου τοῦ ὀφθῆναι τῷ αχααβ καὶ ἡ λιμὸς κραταιὰ ἐν σαμαρείᾳ |
| [3]and Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who [is] over the house -- and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly, |
[3]καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αχααβ τὸν αβδιου τὸν οἰκονόμον καὶ αβδιου ἦν φοβούμενος τὸν κύριον σφόδρα |
| [4]and it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water -- |
[4]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ τύπτειν τὴν ιεζαβελ τοὺς προφήτας κυρίου καὶ ἔλαβεν αβδιου ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας προφήτας καὶ ἔκρυψεν αὐτοὺς κατὰ πεντήκοντα ἐν σπηλαίῳ καὶ διέτρεφεν αὐτοὺς ἐν ἄρτῳ καὶ ὕδατι |
| [5]and Ahab saith unto Obadiah, `Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.' |
[5]καὶ εἶπεν αχααβ πρὸς αβδιου δεῦρο καὶ διέλθωμεν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἐπὶ πηγὰς τῶν ὑδάτων καὶ ἐπὶ χειμάρρους ἐάν πως εὕρωμεν βοτάνην καὶ περιποιησώμεθα ἵππους καὶ ἡμιόνους καὶ οὐκ ἐξολοθρευθήσονται ἀπὸ τῶν κτηνῶν |
| [6]And they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself; |
[6]καὶ ἐμέρισαν ἑαυτοῖς τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ διελθεῖν αὐτήν αχααβ ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδῷ μιᾷ μόνος καὶ αβδιου ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδῷ ἄλλῃ μόνος |
| [7]and Obadiah [is] in the way, and lo, Elijah -- to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, `Art thou he -- my lord Elijah?' |
[7]καὶ ἦν αβδιου ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ μόνος καὶ ἦλθεν ηλιου εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτοῦ μόνος καὶ αβδιου ἔσπευσεν καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν εἰ σὺ εἶ αὐτός κύριέ μου ηλιου |
| [8]And he saith to him, `I [am]; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.' |
[8]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου αὐτῷ ἐγώ πορεύου λέγε τῷ κυρίῳ σου ἰδοὺ ηλιου |
| [9]And he saith, `What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab -- to put me to death? |
[9]καὶ εἶπεν αβδιου τί ἡμάρτηκα ὅτι δίδως τὸν δοῦλόν σου εἰς χεῖρα αχααβ τοῦ θανατῶσαί με |
| [10]Jehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee; |
[10]ζῇ κύριος ὁ θεός σου εἰ ἔστιν ἔθνος ἢ βασιλεία οὗ οὐκ ἀπέσταλκεν ὁ κύριός μου ζητεῖν σε καὶ εἶπον οὐκ ἔστιν καὶ ἐνέπρησεν τὴν βασιλείαν καὶ τὰς χώρας αὐτῆς ὅτι οὐχ εὕρηκέν σε |
| [11]and now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah; |
[11]καὶ νῦν σὺ λέγεις πορεύου ἀνάγγελλε τῷ κυρίῳ σου ἰδοὺ ηλιου |
| [12]and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth. |
[12]καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν ἐγὼ ἀπέλθω ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ πνεῦμα κυρίου ἀρεῖ σε εἰς γῆν ἣν οὐκ οἶδα καὶ εἰσελεύσομαι ἀπαγγεῖλαι τῷ αχααβ καὶ ἀποκτενεῖ με καὶ ὁ δοῦλός σού ἐστιν φοβούμενος τὸν κύριον ἐκ νεότητος αὐτοῦ |
| [13]`Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water? |
[13]ἦ οὐκ ἀπηγγέλη σοι τῷ κυρίῳ μου οἷα πεποίηκα ἐν τῷ ἀποκτείνειν ιεζαβελ τοὺς προφήτας κυρίου καὶ ἔκρυψα ἀπὸ τῶν προφητῶν κυρίου ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας ἀνὰ πεντήκοντα ἐν σπηλαίῳ καὶ ἔθρεψα ἐν ἄρτοις καὶ ὕδατι |
| [14]and now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah -- and he hath slain me!' |
[14]καὶ νῦν σὺ λέγεις μοι πορεύου λέγε τῷ κυρίῳ σου ἰδοὺ ηλιου καὶ ἀποκτενεῖ με |
| [15]And Elijah saith, `Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.' |
[15]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου ζῇ κύριος τῶν δυνάμεων ᾧ παρέστην ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ ὅτι σήμερον ὀφθήσομαι αὐτῷ |
| [16]And Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth [it] to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah, |
[16]καὶ ἐπορεύθη αβδιου εἰς συναντὴν τῷ αχααβ καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐξέδραμεν αχααβ καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς συνάντησιν ηλιου |
| [17]and it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, `Art thou he -- the troubler of Israel?' |
[17]καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδεν αχααβ τὸν ηλιου καὶ εἶπεν αχααβ πρὸς ηλιου εἰ σὺ εἶ αὐτὸς ὁ διαστρέφων τὸν ισραηλ |
| [18]And he saith, `I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim; |
[18]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου οὐ διαστρέφω τὸν ισραηλ ὅτι ἀλλ ἢ σὺ καὶ ὁ οἶκος τοῦ πατρός σου ἐν τῷ καταλιμπάνειν ὑμᾶς τὸν κύριον θεὸν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπορεύθης ὀπίσω τῶν βααλιμ |
| [19]and now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred -- eating at the table of Jezebel.' |
[19]καὶ νῦν ἀπόστειλον συνάθροισον πρός με πάντα ισραηλ εἰς ὄρος τὸ καρμήλιον καὶ τοὺς προφήτας τῆς αἰσχύνης τετρακοσίους καὶ πεντήκοντα καὶ τοὺς προφήτας τῶν ἀλσῶν τετρακοσίους ἐσθίοντας τράπεζαν ιεζαβελ |
| [20]And Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel; |
[20]καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αχααβ εἰς πάντα ισραηλ καὶ ἐπισυνήγαγεν πάντας τοὺς προφήτας εἰς ὄρος τὸ καρμήλιον |
| [21]and Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, `Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? -- if Jehovah [is] God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word. |
[21]καὶ προσήγαγεν ηλιου πρὸς πάντας καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ηλιου ἕως πότε ὑμεῖς χωλανεῖτε ἐπ ἀμφοτέραις ταῖς ἰγνύαις εἰ ἔστιν κύριος ὁ θεός πορεύεσθε ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ εἰ δὲ ὁ βααλ αὐτός πορεύεσθε ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ λαὸς λόγον |
| [22]And Elijah saith unto the people, `I -- I have been left a prophet of Jehovah -- by myself; and the prophets of Baal [are] four hundred and fifty men; |
[22]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου πρὸς τὸν λαόν ἐγὼ ὑπολέλειμμαι προφήτης τοῦ κυρίου μονώτατος καὶ οἱ προφῆται τοῦ βααλ τετρακόσιοι καὶ πεντήκοντα ἄνδρες καὶ οἱ προφῆται τοῦ ἄλσους τετρακόσιοι |
| [23]and let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place [it] on the wood, and place no fire; and I -- I prepare the other bullock, and have put [it] on the wood, and fire I do not place; -- |
[23]δότωσαν ἡμῖν δύο βόας καὶ ἐκλεξάσθωσαν ἑαυτοῖς τὸν ἕνα καὶ μελισάτωσαν καὶ ἐπιθέτωσαν ἐπὶ τῶν ξύλων καὶ πῦρ μὴ ἐπιθέτωσαν καὶ ἐγὼ ποιήσω τὸν βοῦν τὸν ἄλλον καὶ πῦρ οὐ μὴ ἐπιθῶ |
| [24]and ye have called in the name of your god, and I -- I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire -- He [is] the God.' And all the people answer and say, `Good [is] the word.' |
[24]καὶ βοᾶτε ἐν ὀνόματι θεῶν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐγὼ ἐπικαλέσομαι ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ μου καὶ ἔσται ὁ θεός ὃς ἐὰν ἐπακούσῃ ἐν πυρί οὗτος θεός καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς καὶ εἶπον καλὸν τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ἐλάλησας |
| [25]And Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, `Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye [are] the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.' |
[25]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου τοῖς προφήταις τῆς αἰσχύνης ἐκλέξασθε ἑαυτοῖς τὸν μόσχον τὸν ἕνα καὶ ποιήσατε πρῶτοι ὅτι πολλοὶ ὑμεῖς καὶ ἐπικαλέσασθε ἐν ὀνόματι θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ πῦρ μὴ ἐπιθῆτε |
| [26]And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, `O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made. |
[26]καὶ ἔλαβον τὸν μόσχον καὶ ἐποίησαν καὶ ἐπεκαλοῦντο ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ βααλ ἐκ πρωίθεν ἕως μεσημβρίας καὶ εἶπον ἐπάκουσον ἡμῶν ὁ βααλ ἐπάκουσον ἡμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἦν φωνὴ καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἀκρόασις καὶ διέτρεχον ἐπὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου οὗ ἐποίησαν |
| [27]And it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, `Call with a loud voice, for he [is] a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.' |
[27]καὶ ἐγένετο μεσημβρίᾳ καὶ ἐμυκτήρισεν αὐτοὺς ηλιου ὁ θεσβίτης καὶ εἶπεν ἐπικαλεῖσθε ἐν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ὅτι θεός ἐστιν ὅτι ἀδολεσχία αὐτῷ ἐστιν καὶ ἅμα μήποτε χρηματίζει αὐτός ἢ μήποτε καθεύδει αὐτός καὶ ἐξαναστήσεται |
| [28]And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood [is] on them; |
[28]καὶ ἐπεκαλοῦντο ἐν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ καὶ κατετέμνοντο κατὰ τὸν ἐθισμὸν αὐτῶν ἐν μαχαίραις καὶ σειρομάσταις ἕως ἐκχύσεως αἵματος ἐπ αὐτούς |
| [29]and it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending. |
[29]καὶ ἐπροφήτευον ἕως οὗ παρῆλθεν τὸ δειλινόν καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ὁ καιρὸς τοῦ ἀναβῆναι τὴν θυσίαν καὶ οὐκ ἦν φωνή καὶ ἐλάλησεν ηλιου ὁ θεσβίτης πρὸς τοὺς προφήτας τῶν προσοχθισμάτων λέγων μετάστητε ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν καὶ ἐγὼ ποιήσω τὸ ὁλοκαύτωμά μου καὶ μετέστησαν καὶ ἀπῆλθον |
| [30]And Elijah saith to all the people, `Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down; |
[30]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου πρὸς τὸν λαόν προσαγάγετε πρός με καὶ προσήγαγεν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς πρὸς αὐτόν |
| [31]and Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, `Israel is thy name;' |
[31]καὶ ἔλαβεν ηλιου δώδεκα λίθους κατ ἀριθμὸν φυλῶν τοῦ ισραηλ ὡς ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγων ισραηλ ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά σου |
| [32]and he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar. |
[32]καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν τοὺς λίθους ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου καὶ ἰάσατο τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ κατεσκαμμένον καὶ ἐποίησεν θααλα χωροῦσαν δύο μετρητὰς σπέρματος κυκλόθεν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου |
| [33]And he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth [it] on the wood, and saith, `Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood; |
[33]καὶ ἐστοίβασεν τὰς σχίδακας ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον ὃ ἐποίησεν καὶ ἐμέλισεν τὸ ὁλοκαύτωμα καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ἐπὶ τὰς σχίδακας καὶ ἐστοίβασεν ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον |
| [34]and he saith, `Do [it] a second time;' and they do [it] a second time; and he saith, `Do [it] a third time;' and they do [it] a third time; |
[34]καὶ εἶπεν λάβετέ μοι τέσσαρας ὑδρίας ὕδατος καὶ ἐπιχέετε ἐπὶ τὸ ὁλοκαύτωμα καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς σχίδακας καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως καὶ εἶπεν δευτερώσατε καὶ ἐδευτέρωσαν καὶ εἶπεν τρισσώσατε καὶ ἐτρίσσευσαν |
| [35]and the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water. |
[35]καὶ διεπορεύετο τὸ ὕδωρ κύκλῳ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου καὶ τὴν θααλα ἔπλησαν ὕδατος |
| [36]And it cometh to pass, at the going up of the [evening-]present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, `Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou [art] God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things; |
[36]καὶ ἀνεβόησεν ηλιου εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ εἶπεν κύριε ὁ θεὸς αβρααμ καὶ ισαακ καὶ ισραηλ ἐπάκουσόν μου κύριε ἐπάκουσόν μου σήμερον ἐν πυρί καὶ γνώτωσαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς οὗτος ὅτι σὺ εἶ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ισραηλ κἀγὼ δοῦλός σου καὶ διὰ σὲ πεποίηκα τὰ ἔργα ταῦτα |
| [37]answer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou [art] Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.' |
[37]ἐπάκουσόν μου κύριε ἐπάκουσόν μου ἐν πυρί καὶ γνώτω ὁ λαὸς οὗτος ὅτι σὺ εἶ κύριος ὁ θεὸς καὶ σὺ ἔστρεψας τὴν καρδίαν τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου ὀπίσω |
| [38]And there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that [is] in the trench it hath licked up. |
[38]καὶ ἔπεσεν πῦρ παρὰ κυρίου ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ κατέφαγεν τὸ ὁλοκαύτωμα καὶ τὰς σχίδακας καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ τὸ ἐν τῇ θααλα καὶ τοὺς λίθους καὶ τὸν χοῦν ἐξέλιξεν τὸ πῦρ |
| [39]And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, `Jehovah, He [is] the God, Jehovah, He [is] the God.' |
[39]καὶ ἔπεσεν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπον ἀληθῶς κύριός ἐστιν ὁ θεός αὐτὸς ὁ θεός |
| [40]And Elijah saith to them, `Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there. |
[40]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου πρὸς τὸν λαόν συλλάβετε τοὺς προφήτας τοῦ βααλ μηθεὶς σωθήτω ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ συνέλαβον αὐτούς καὶ κατάγει αὐτοὺς ηλιου εἰς τὸν χειμάρρουν κισων καὶ ἔσφαξεν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ |
| [41]And Elijah saith to Ahab, `Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.' |
[41]καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου τῷ αχααβ ἀνάβηθι καὶ φάγε καὶ πίε ὅτι φωνὴ τῶν ποδῶν τοῦ ὑετοῦ |
| [42]And Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees, |
[42]καὶ ἀνέβη αχααβ τοῦ φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν καὶ ηλιου ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὸν κάρμηλον καὶ ἔκυψεν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἔθηκεν τὸ πρόσωπον ἑαυτοῦ ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν γονάτων ἑαυτοῦ |
| [43]and saith unto his young man, `Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, `There is nothing;' and he saith, `Turn back,' seven times. |
[43]καὶ εἶπεν τῷ παιδαρίῳ αὑτοῦ ἀνάβηθι καὶ ἐπίβλεψον ὁδὸν τῆς θαλάσσης καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν τὸ παιδάριον καὶ εἶπεν οὐκ ἔστιν οὐθέν καὶ εἶπεν ηλιου καὶ σὺ ἐπίστρεψον ἑπτάκι καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν τὸ παιδάριον ἑπτάκι |
| [44]And it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, `Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, `Go up, say unto Ahab, `Bind -- and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.' |
[44]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἑβδόμῳ καὶ ἰδοὺ νεφέλη μικρὰ ὡς ἴχνος ἀνδρὸς ἀνάγουσα ὕδωρ καὶ εἶπεν ἀνάβηθι καὶ εἰπὸν τῷ αχααβ ζεῦξον τὸ ἅρμα σου καὶ κατάβηθι μὴ καταλάβῃ σε ὁ ὑετός |
| [45]And it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black -- thick clouds and wind -- and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel, |
[45]καὶ ἐγένετο ἕως ὧδε καὶ ὧδε καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς συνεσκότασεν νεφέλαις καὶ πνεύματι καὶ ἐγένετο ὑετὸς μέγας καὶ ἔκλαιεν καὶ ἐπορεύετο αχααβ εἰς ιεζραελ |
| [46]and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel. |
[46]καὶ χεὶρ κυρίου ἐπὶ τὸν ηλιου καὶ συνέσφιγξεν τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔτρεχεν ἔμπροσθεν αχααβ ἕως ιεζραελ |
